[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1316035] Re: matrox g200eR2 is unclaimed in 14.04

2017-11-26 Thread Walter Ma
Had the same problem on a Dell PowerEdge R730 with Ubuntu 16.04LTS.
Installing module mgag200 as suggested by Ivo Straka's (approach n. 1) worked
for me.

But as Giorgio Signorini comment #61, after installed mgag200 module and set
xorg driver to mgag200 and restart X.
In /var/log/xorg.0.log, there will have somes errors like "Could not load
driver maga200", and finally fall back to xserver-xorg-video-mga if installed.

Actually, in xf86-video-mga
1.6.5(https://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-mga/) has
added support for g200e, while in ubuntu 16.04 only with 1.6.4
version(https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-mga),
and 1.6.5 only for Zesty(https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-
xorg-video-mga/+publishinghistory).

This is because of dependency problem, or not? Since I'm new to linux,
maybe who could build xf86-video-mga 1.6.5 in ubuntu 16.04 or give some
ideas about how to build?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1730093] Re: Gnome suspends or blanks external monitor when laptop is docked

2017-11-26 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1722725 ***

Title:
Gnome suspends or blanks external monitor when laptop is docked

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
In the default configuration, resuming my T440s on the Lenovo
ultradock results in not detecting the external monitor followed by a
  suspend.

If I open the lid while on the dock, gnome detects the external
monitor and blanks the laptop display. Then, closing the lid results
  in suspend.

As a work around, using tweak tool (or UPower) to ignore the lid, does
prevent the suspend. But it is not automatic; each time, one must
bring up the gnome control panel->devices->displays and manually
select single display. Then the lid may be closed without suspend.

This worked fine in 17.04, so I'm hoping that the provides enough
clues that this can be fixed easily.

Thanks! I am enjoying the new Ubuntu 17.10 generally, but this
  situation is annoying.

doesn't. Same behavior on stock 17.10 kernel.

Title:
CUPS - Excessive Amounts of UDP Multicast Traffic for BJNP

Status in cups package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
It appears that the cups-browsed service as of Xenial (version
1.8.3-2ubuntu3.1) sends an excessive amount of UDP multicast requests
for ports 8610 (Canon MFNP) and 8612 (Canon BJNP) under unexpected
conditions and regardless of a presence or lack of Canon printer
  devices on the network.

This is manifested by enabling UFW, and observing multicast requests being
blocked that are sent from the host machine's network IPv4 or IPv6 address to
the multicast address, e.g.
  [UFW BLOCK] IN=wlp3s0 OUT= MAC= SRC=
DST=ff02:::::::0001 LEN=64 TC=0 HOPLIMIT=1
FLOWLBL=96642 PROTO=UDP SPT=8612 DPT=8612 LEN=24

  IN= OUT=wlan0 SRC=192.168.90.45 DST=192.168.91.255 LEN=44 TOS=0x00
  PREC=0x00 TTL=64 ID=7742 DF PROTO=UDP SPT=8612 DPT=8610 LEN=24

Users have observed that the requests can be reproduced when any USB device
is plugged/unplugged into the computer, regardless of whether the device has
anything to do with printing:
  https://twitter.com/gertvdijk/status/621790755758178304
  https://bugs.kali.org/view.php?id=3094

Just Googling "udp 8612", shows are a large number of results on different
websites of people who have observed this behaviour in firewall and traffic
logs, and have noticed that it may contribute to network slowdown and latency:
  https://askubuntu.com/questions/867739/what-is-this-traffic/867786

https://serverfault.com/questions/667376/watchguard-blocking-internal-udp-packets

  https://jehurst.wordpress.com/2016/01/22/small-victories/ recommends
disabling the cups-browsed service to stop these requests:
  systemctl stop cups-browsed.service
  systemctl disable cups-browsed.service

There are probably two things to address here:
  1. Connecting any USB device should not cause these requests unless the
device is actually a printer or directly related to printing.
  2. Requests independent of connecting USB devices should be rate limited to a
degree and/or should be dependent on the actual presence of a Canon printer
configured on the network.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 405294] Re: A2DP Bluetooth audio skips terribly ["Skipping NNN us (= MMM bytes) in audio stream"]

2017-11-26 Thread JoaoH
If it's any consolation, I mean I know this is an Ubuntu forum, but my
Manjaro system finally works with Bluetooth A2DP, no skipping and no
delay!

A few weeks ago some major updates were pushed and seems to be working
ever since.

Granted, the BT headphones connect as HSP and the default BT tools will
not switch it to A2DP, but that is where you download "BLUEMAN" and just
run through the setup for the particular device as Audio Sink. Once it
is connected, it is working and has been working for two weeks.

DELL XPS14 Core i7 with Atheros Wi-FI and BT card running Manjaro
Cinnamon Desktop 64bit.

Workaround with disabling bt_coex described here:

It _seemingly_ works for me, but this is not a solution

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1578317] Re: Regression: Mouse stuck at start-up

2017-11-26 Thread Shannon O
I clean installed Ubuntu 16.04 on a Dell Optiplex 390 and experience the same
lack of mouse function after successful login. I attempted the workaround
listed at the top of page but received the following error: "modprobe: ERROR:
could not insert 'usbhid': operation not permitted.
I then noticed my keyboard, which had previously worked normally, had stopped
working. I unplugged both my keyboard and my mouse and reconnected both in turn
and now my mouse and keyboard both work - even after log out and successful
login. I am not a Dev, just reporting what I've noticed and wondering when a
permanent fix will be available.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1734586] [NEW] Merge NetworkManager with Debian 1.10.0-1

2017-11-26 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

Debian has packaged the latest major release of NetworkManager, 1.10. We
should update to this version for Ubuntu 18.04 "bionic".

I have prepared the merge at
https://git.launchpad.net/network-manager?h=bionic

The only thing missing is that this patch needs to be rebased or dropped:
https://git.launchpad.net/network-manager/tree/debian/patches/dns-manager-don-t-merge-split-DNS-search-domains.patch?h=bionic

Otherwise, the build will fail:

src/.libs/libNetworkManagerTest.a(src_libNetworkManager_la-nm-dns-manager.o):
In function `merge_one_ip_config_data':
./src/dns/nm-dns-manager.c:417: undefined reference to
`nm_ip4_config_get_never_default'
./src/dns/nm-dns-manager.c:419: undefined reference to
`nm_ip4_config_get_never_default'

There's been a lot of refactoring, but this commit looks important:
https://cgit.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/commit/?id=5c29945

** Affects: network-manager (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Wishlist
 Status: New

** Tags: upgrade-software-version

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1714989] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance_cast() from st_label_set_text() from ffi_call_unix64()

2017-11-26 Thread André
@marco, should an extension be able to crash a gnome-shell session?

This does not seem right, I'm sure it is not that simple, but if this by
design then there should be a warning on gnome-extensions, or some
information on next session startup (or disable them all).

It took me a while to understand which extension was causing the
problem. And while I disabled some that were described in this bug
report, those were not causing it. For me it was dash-to-dock and now it
one is triggered by low disk notification

The only pattern I've detected is that it was always triggered by
notifications.

Anyway... i feel that this creates frustration and a bad user
experience as I had to install an alternative environment for those
critical moments where it has to work (and cannot afford to free
space/disable extensions/debug)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1726616] Re: Firefox crashes repeatedly after system update

2017-11-26 Thread Marco38
Hello @etienne-papegnies
Thanks for the explanation. In the meantime, I have uninstalled Firefox and
started using only Chromium on that RPi. I tried to upgrade to the latest
version of Firefox, recently, hoping that it would solve the issue, but to no
avail for now. Let's hope the Firefox devs will be able to solve this rapidly.

Title:
Firefox crashes repeatedly after system update

Status in ubuntu-mate:
  Invalid
Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  How to reproduce:
  - Download and install Ubuntu Mate 16.04.2 LTS, Raspberry Edition, on a micro
SD card.
  - Boot the Pi with that card, and launch Firefox. Everything's OK so far. By
the way, it's FF 54.0.
  - Update everything either with Software Updater or with apt-get update +
apt-get upgrade.
  - (Attempt to) launch Firefox again. It won't start at all, and all you'll
get will be a window repeatedly saying that Firefox has crashed, and proposing
to send a bug report.

I've initially noticed this issue on the latest (LTS) version of the
Raspberry Edition of Ubuntu Mate (16.04.2), and afterwards reproduced
it on the 32-bit version of the Desktop Edition (16.04.3), so it's not
a Raspberry-specific issue. But, oddly enough, not on the 64-bit
version, where Firefox was updated from 54.0 to 56.0 and kept running
fine. I did not try more recent versions of the Desktop Edition (17.04
or 17.10) because the latest available for the Pi is the 16.04.2.

I wish I could help more, by pinpointing precisely what has gone
wrong, but this is the first time I report a bug in Ubuntu, and I
don't know where to start the debugging.

  Thanks for reading,

  Marc

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1502370] Re: Unity does not send UnmapNotify event when window is iconified

Unity does not send UnmapNotify event when window is iconified

Status in Unity:

Status in unity package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
To reproduce this bug, run "wish" in a terminal window. Here's what I did in
wish:
  > wish
  % wm tracing 1
  % wm iconify .
  WaitForMapNotify giving up on .
WaitForMapNotify finished with . (winPtr 0x1af3a50, wmPtr 0x1af3850)
  % wm state .
  normal
  % wm deiconify .
  %

Three symptoms can be seen in the wish session:
   1. wish should not report "WaitForMapNotify giving up on ."
   2. After the "wm iconify ." command, the window disappears; however, the "wm
state ." should report "iconic" instead of "normal".
   3. The "wm deiconify ." command should make the window reappear, but it does
not.

I'm struggling with whether this is a Unity bug or a Tk bug. The problem is
exhibited under Unity and Gnome Shell, but does not occur under fvwm2 (I ran
the test under all 3 window managers on the same system). Under fvwm2:
   1. wish does not report "WaitForMapNotify giving up on ."
   2) The "wm state ." command correctly returns "iconic".
   3) The "wm deiconify ." command correctly makes the window reappear.

Under Gnome Shell and fvwm2, I was able to run "xtrace wish", and repeat the
session to watch the X11 events (I got a SEGV when I tried this under Unity and
I filed a bug). Under Gnome Shell, the xtrace info looks like this:

Note that fvwm2 returns the UnmapNotify event to the client (in
response to the ClientMessage event), but Gnome Shell (and presumably
Unity) doesn't. As a result, wish does not send the UnmapWindow
request to the window manager under Gnome Shell.

The ICCCM (section 4.1.4) says "Clients can select for StructureNotify
on their top-level windows to track transitions between Normal and
Iconic states. Receipt of a MapNotify event will indicate a transition
to the Normal state, and receipt of an UnmapNotify event will indicate
a transition to the Iconic state.

The relevant Tk code is in the tk8.6 source package
  (http://packages.ubuntu.com/source/trusty/tk8.6). At the bottom of
unix/tkUnixWm.c the TkpWmSetState() function calls XIconifyWindow(),

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1464321] Re: No sound output through docking station headphones jack for Dell Latitude E5450

2017-11-26 Thread Larry Brown
I have a Dell D630 Latitude laptop plugged into a Dell PR01X port
replicator/dock station. I have been struggling with this problem, too.
I solved my problem by changing the configuration in "Pulse Audio Volume
Control" from "Analog Duplex" to "Digital Stereo (IEC958) Output +
Analog Stereo Input". Playback through the audio headphone jack in the
dock station works.

2017-11-26 Thread tenwit
Yep thanks for that. I filled in the report that automatically popped up
on when the system errored; I didn't want to contradict the auto-filled-
in fields, I assumed it knew more about what had gone wrong than I did
:)

Thanks for your work, it's appreciated!

Happened during upgrade of Ubuntu from 17.04 to 17.10.
Stepped away from desk; when I came back I was locked out.
I didn't recognize the lock screen.
There was no way to log back into the session, no password prompt etc.
I switched to a VT and monitored top for a while: "artful" was minimally
active, but never about 2% CPU and memory never changed; I guessed it was
waiting for a user prompt which I'd never be able to give, so I rebooted.
I got this error on boot.

The system is now usable. I've done `dpkg configure -a; apt upgrade`
and it's all working as I'd expect.

exhausted and system is swapping like crazy.

  000:<:0092: 24: Request(16): InternAtom only-if-exists=false(0x00)

long-offset=0x long-length=0x0400
  000:>:008f:36: Reply to GetProperty: type=0x4("ATOM")
bytes-after=0x data=;

At the bottom of
unix/tkUnixWm.c the TkpWmSetState() function calls XIconifyWindow(),
followed by WaitForMapNotify(). It is WaitForMapNotify() that prints
out the message that it is giving up. There's an interesting comment
  in WaitForMapNotify()

Public bug reported:

Found my pc running very slowly. Currently machine is swapping like mad.
Highest users of RAM are chrome and gnome-software. I've closed chrome,
and note that gnome-software is climbing at an alarming rate of hundreds

I don't even have the graphical store open, only the background service

Bug description:
In 0.91 the z-order information in svg is used to create multipage
PDF+LaTeX documents as per bug 771957. However, for the SVGs I have
been converting to PDF+LaTeX in this way, the TeX-file instructs to
load more pages than the PDF has, for example the PDF has only three
pages and the TeX file also includes page=4. This basically breaks the
PDF+LaTeX export for me and I have to use EPS+LaTeX + epstopdf
  package.

The bug occurs on OpenSuse 13.1 and Windows 8.1.

Attached a zip file with two svg files and their broken PDF+LaTeX
  counterparts.

same problem here, ubuntu 16.04. it is unbelievable that this bug is
being ignored. I suppose install Ubuntu LTS version because of the
support but this bug was reported since 8 years and not even assigned.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1615732] Re: Execution of filter 'Junk check' fails with "Empty cache file"

2017-11-26 Thread Stephen Allen
Affecting Ubuntu Evolution LTS 18.04 too

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop

Title:
Execution of filter 'Junk check' fails with "Empty cache file"

Status in Evolution:
  Unknown
Status in evolution package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in evolution package in Debian:
  New

Bug description:
I currently use an Evolution setup in which I retrieve email via IMAP
from an unfiltered mailbox, and then use Evolution to automatically
  filter for spam/junk mail.

This process works as expected upon starting Evolution: all email is
retrieved from the mailbox (and thus resides in the Inbox folder,
where it arrived), then it's filtered to identify spam, and then the
spam is moved from the Inbox to a Junk folder.

However, after Evolution has been running for some time (hard to
estimate because it requires an email to be received, but likely 5-10
minutes; it's possible that this is just "one email refresh interval"
but also possible that something else is going on), newly received
email stops being filtered for spam, and all the email remains in the
Inbox. This happens at least in the case of receiving one email at a
time, and most likely in the case where multiple emails are received
  in one send/receive cycle.

When this failure to remove spam/junk happens, there's a yellow banner
at the top of the screen saying, for example (the filename is not
  always the same),

  "Error while performing operation.

Execution of filter 'Junk check' failed: Empty cache file:

/home/ais523/.cache/evolution/mail/1440221975.23984.44@tundra/folders/INBOX/cur/1f/23052"

I checked the contents of the file in question; it appears to be a
copy of the email that was just received, including all headers. (It's
possible that there's a race condition here and that the file was
empty when the filter looked at it, but became populated just after it
errored out, but perhaps something else is going on.)

This behaviour is a problem because it means that either I have to
delete junk mail by hand, or else that I have to repeatedly close and
reopen Evolution so that the automated system will work.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1734545] [NEW] Translations not updated from upstream

2017-11-26 Thread Ask Hjorth Larsen
Public bug reported:

The Danish translation of gnome-sudoku lacks many strings as it has not
been synchronized with upstream for years:

https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-sudoku

Meanwhile gnome-sudoku is and has always been completely translated
upstream. Indeed it has been fully translated for every release of
GNOME ever since it forked out of gnome-games. Take for example current
master:

https://l10n.gnome.org/vertimus/gnome-sudoku/master/po/da

It seems there are rather grave problems with translation imports in
Launchpad. I reported a similar issue recently for util-linux:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/util-linux/+bug/1730793

Who knows how many other packages are affected, and in what languages.
I think Launchpad translations should be disabled entirely for all
source packages - the translations belong upstream, with the project.

Thanks to scootergrisen for making me aware of this problem.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1044408] Re: gnome-shell-calendar-server crashed with signal 5 in source_registry_object_manager_thread()

2017-11-26 Thread funicorn
It's Nov 2017 and gnome 3.26 now. The bug is reborn. Where did the 'fix'
go? Why can't these bugs be quarantined since the fixes were done? The
same bugs were fixed once and brought back always on the same project,
over and over again. It seems the whole community are trying so hard to
maintain all the packages as well as all the bugs, in the same time.
When we talk about teamwork today, do we keep in mind teamwork begins
from remembering history in a decent way?

Bug description:
  [Impact]
If a user has uninstalled everything evolution (or added gnome-shell to a
minimal command line Ubuntu install), gnome-shell will refuse to start. In
.cache/gdm/session.log or .xsession-errors, this is printed:

  (gnome-shell-calendar-server): ShellCalendarServer-ERROR **:

  org.gnome.evolution.dataserver.Sources0:
  GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Spawn.ExecFailed: Failed to
  execute program /usr/lib/evolution/evolution-source-registry: Success

  [Test Case]
  1. sudo apt-get uninstall evolution-data-server (unless this will remove
gnome-shell)
  2. Log out, and try to log into GNOME Shell

  [Regression Potential]
  None

  [Workaround]
Make sure evolution-data-server is installed; it is not Evolution and is
needed for gnome-shell to start.

But it did not last long;
after the third time I used it, libreoffice repeated the same problem;

   * This bug prevents users (currently Project Halium, UBports, Plasma Mobile)
from using the pulseaudio-modules-droid on android devices.
   * This behavior can be seen in Ubuntu Xenial 16.04 with xenial-updates
enabled.
   * Last 3 releases of pulseaudio included multiple patches which modified
behavior of pulsecore library but required changes were not made in
pulseaudio-module-droid.
   * This results in crash in pulseaudio-modules-droid

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1724919] Re: Bluetooth headphones only use A2DP when connected manually

2017-11-26 Thread Erik Sjölund
I have the same problem with the headset Sony MDR-1000X and Ubuntu
17.10. I have to first disconnect and then connect to get the A2DP
profile to work.

Title:
Bluetooth headphones only use A2DP when connected manually

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Issue with Sony MDR-1ABT Bluetooth headphones:
Once paired, the headphones will be connected automatically whenever they are
switched on. However when connected this way, only the HSP/HFP profile will
work and trying to change to A2DP in sound settings does nothing.
If the headphones are then manually disconnected and reconnected from
Bluetooth settings, they will initially use HSP/HFP but then selecting A2DP in
sound settings will successfully make them use A2DP.
