[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1316035] Re: matrox g200eR2 is unclaimed in 14.04
Had the same problem on a Dell PowerEdge R730 with Ubuntu 16.04LTS. Installing module mgag200 as suggested by Ivo Straka's (approach n. 1) worked for me. But as Giorgio Signorini comment #61, after installed mgag200 module and set xorg driver to mgag200 and restart X. In /var/log/xorg.0.log, there will have somes errors like "Could not load driver maga200", and finally fall back to xserver-xorg-video-mga if installed. Actually, in xf86-video-mga 1.6.5(https://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-mga/) has added support for g200e, while in ubuntu 16.04 only with 1.6.4 version(https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-mga), and 1.6.5 only for Zesty(https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver- xorg-video-mga/+publishinghistory). This is because of dependency problem, or not? Since I'm new to linux, maybe who could build xf86-video-mga 1.6.5 in ubuntu 16.04 or give some ideas about how to build? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1316035 Title: matrox g200eR2 is unclaimed in 14.04 Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: On a certified Dell PowerEdge T620 server (http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/hardware/201207-11426/) The matrox video card is not recognised: lspci | grep VGA 0a:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Matrox Electronics Systems Ltd. If I open the lid while on the dock, gnome detects the external monitor and blanks the laptop display. Then, closing the lid results in suspend. As a work around, using tweak tool (or UPower) to ignore the lid, does prevent the suspend. But it is not automatic; each time, one must bring up the gnome control panel->devices->displays and manually select single display. Then the lid may be closed without suspend. This worked fine in 17.04, so I'm hoping that the provides enough clues that this can be fixed easily. Thanks! I am enjoying the new Ubuntu 17.10 generally, but this situation is annoying. This is manifested by enabling UFW, and observing multicast requests being blocked that are sent from the host machine's network IPv4 or IPv6 address to the multicast address, e.g. [UFW BLOCK] IN=wlp3s0 OUT= MAC= SRC= DST=ff02:::::::0001 LEN=64 TC=0 HOPLIMIT=1 FLOWLBL=96642 PROTO=UDP SPT=8612 DPT=8612 LEN=24 IN= OUT=wlan0 SRC=192.168.90.45 DST=192.168.91.255 LEN=44 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=64 ID=7742 DF PROTO=UDP SPT=8612 DPT=8610 LEN=24 Users have observed that the requests can be reproduced when any USB device is plugged/unplugged into the computer, regardless of whether the device has anything to do with printing: https://twitter.com/gertvdijk/status/621790755758178304 https://bugs.kali.org/view.php?id=3094 Just Googling "udp 8612", shows are a large number of results on different websites of people who have observed this behaviour in firewall and traffic logs, and have noticed that it may contribute to network slowdown and latency: https://askubuntu.com/questions/867739/what-is-this-traffic/867786 https://serverfault.com/questions/667376/watchguard-blocking-internal-udp-packets https://jehurst.wordpress.com/2016/01/22/small-victories/ recommends disabling the cups-browsed service to stop these requests: systemctl stop cups-browsed.service systemctl disable cups-browsed.service There are probably two things to address here: 1. Connecting any USB device should not cause these requests unless the device is actually a printer or directly related to printing. 2. Requests independent of connecting USB devices should be rate limited to a degree and/or should be dependent on the actual presence of a Canon printer configured on the network. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 405294] Re: A2DP Bluetooth audio skips terribly ["Skipping NNN us (= MMM bytes) in audio stream"]
If it's any consolation, I mean I know this is an Ubuntu forum, but my Manjaro system finally works with Bluetooth A2DP, no skipping and no delay! A few weeks ago some major updates were pushed and seems to be working ever since. Granted, the BT headphones connect as HSP and the default BT tools will not switch it to A2DP, but that is where you download "BLUEMAN" and just run through the setup for the particular device as Audio Sink. Once it is connected, it is working and has been working for two weeks. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1714989] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance_cast() from st_label_set_text() from ffi_call_unix64()
@marco, should an extension be able to crash a gnome-shell session? This does not seem right, I'm sure it is not that simple, but if this by design then there should be a warning on gnome-extensions, or some information on next session startup (or disable them all). It took me a while to understand which extension was causing the problem. And while I disabled some that were described in this bug report, those were not causing it. For me it was dash-to-dock and now it one is triggered by low disk notification The only pattern I've detected is that it was always triggered by notifications. Anyway... i feel that this creates frustration and a bad user experience as I had to install an alternative environment for those critical moments where it has to work (and cannot afford to free space/disable extensions/debug) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1714989 Title: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance_cast() from st_label_set_text() from ffi_call_unix64() Status in GNOME Shell: Fix Released Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Saw some reports with the same title but they're all for previous versions. error report: https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/1c95cc2653ab00054b5d1764e41d974328a5f49d ProblemType: Crash DistroRelease: Ubuntu 17.10 Package: gnome-shell 3.25.91-0ubuntu2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.12.0-12.13-generic 4.12.8 Uname: Linux 4.12.0-12-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_uvm nvidia ApportVersion: 2.20.7-0ubuntu1 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Mon Sep 4 16:52:13 2017 DisplayManager: gdm3 EcryptfsInUse: Yes ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/gnome-shell InstallationDate: Installed on 2017-04-21 (135 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 17.04 "Zesty Zapus" - Release amd64 (20170412) ProcCmdline: /usr/bin/gnome-shell ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=en_GB:en PATH=(custom, user) XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= LANG=en_GB.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SegvAnalysis: Segfault happened at: 0x7fd97c8e7e5d: movzbl 0x16(%rax),%edx PC (0x7fd97c8e7e5d) ok source "0x16(%rax)" (0xeb1e) not located in a known VMA region (needed readable region)! destination "%edx" ok SegvReason: reading NULL VMA Signal: 11 SourcePackage: gnome-shell StacktraceTop: g_type_check_instance_cast () from /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgobject-2.0.so.0 st_label_set_text () from /usr/lib/gnome-shell/libst-1.0.so ffi_call_unix64 () from /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libffi.so.6 ffi_call () from /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libffi.so.6 ?? [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1726616] Re: Firefox crashes repeatedly after system update
Hello @etienne-papegnies Thanks for the explanation. In the meantime, I have uninstalled Firefox and started using only Chromium on that RPi. I tried to upgrade to the latest version of Firefox, recently, hoping that it would solve the issue, but to no avail for now. Let's hope the Firefox devs will be able to solve this rapidly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1726616 Title: Firefox crashes repeatedly after system update Status in ubuntu-mate: Invalid Status in firefox package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: How to reproduce: - Download and install Ubuntu Mate 16.04.2 LTS, Raspberry Edition, on a micro SD card. - Boot the Pi with that card, and launch Firefox. Everything's OK so far. By the way, it's FF 54.0. - Update everything either with Software Updater or with apt-get update + apt-get upgrade. - (Attempt to) launch Firefox again. It won't start at all, and all you'll get will be a window repeatedly saying that Firefox has crashed, and proposing to send a bug report. I've initially noticed this issue on the latest (LTS) version of the Raspberry Edition of Ubuntu Mate (16.04.2), and afterwards reproduced it on the 32-bit version of the Desktop Edition (16.04.3), so it's not a Raspberry-specific issue. But, oddly enough, not on the 64-bit version, where Firefox was updated from 54.0 to 56.0 and kept running fine. I did not try more recent versions of the Desktop Edition (17.04 or 17.10) because the latest available for the Pi is the 16.04.2. I wish I could help more, by pinpointing precisely what has gone wrong, but this is the first time I report a bug in Ubuntu, and I don't know where to start the debugging. After the "wm iconify ." command, the window disappears; however, the "wm state ." should report "iconic" instead of "normal". 3. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1464321] Re: No sound output through docking station headphones jack for Dell Latitude E5450
I have a Dell D630 Latitude laptop plugged into a Dell PR01X port replicator/dock station. I have been struggling with this problem, too. I solved my problem by changing the configuration in "Pulse Audio Volume Control" from "Analog Duplex" to "Digital Stereo (IEC958) Output + Analog Stereo Input". Playback through the audio headphone jack in the dock station works. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to alsa-driver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1464321 Title: No sound output through docking station headphones jack for Dell Latitude E5450 Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: 1) Release: 15.04 2) I do not know the package or version. 3) Expected: I expect sound to be output from the speaker that is connected to the headphones jack of my docking station. 4) Actual: No sound output at all. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1502370] Re: Unity does not send UnmapNotify event when window is iconified
** Also affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1502370 Title: Unity does not send UnmapNotify event when window is iconified Status in Unity: New Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: New Status in unity package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: To reproduce this bug, run "wish" in a terminal window. Here's what I did in wish: > wish % wm tracing 1 % wm iconify . WaitForMapNotify giving up on . WaitForMapNotify finished with . (winPtr 0x1af3a50, wmPtr 0x1af3850) % wm state . normal % wm deiconify . % Three symptoms can be seen in the wish session: 1. wish should not report "WaitForMapNotify giving up on ." 2. After the "wm iconify ." command, the window disappears; however, the "wm state ." should report "iconic" instead of "normal". 3. The "wm deiconify ." command should make the window reappear, but it does not. I'm struggling with whether this is a Unity bug or a Tk bug. The problem is exhibited under Unity and Gnome Shell, but does not occur under fvwm2 (I ran the test under all 3 window managers on the same system). Under fvwm2: 1. wish does not report "WaitForMapNotify giving up on ." 2) The "wm state ." command correctly returns "iconic". 3) The "wm deiconify ." command correctly makes the window reappear. Under Gnome Shell and fvwm2, I was able to run "xtrace wish", and repeat the session to watch the X11 events (I got a SEGV when I tried this under Unity and I filed a bug). Under Gnome Shell, the xtrace info looks like this: 000:<:0092: 24: Request(16): InternAtom only-if-exists=false(0x00) name='WM_CHANGE_STATE' 000:>:0092:32: Reply to InternAtom: atom=0x1dc("WM_CHANGE_STATE") 000:<:0093: 44: Request(25): SendEvent propagate=false(0x00) destination=0x009b event-mask=SubstructureNotify,SubstructureRedirect ClientMessage(33) format=0x20 window=0x0186 type=0x1dc("WM_CHANGE_STATE") data=0x03,0x00,0x00,0x00,0xf0,0x71,0xd0,0x00,0x28,0x3e,0xc4,0x00,0x00,0x00,0x00,0x00,0x06,0x00,0x80,0x01; 000:>:0093: Event PropertyNotify(28) window=0x0186 atom=0x185(unrecognized atom) time=0x04931165 state=NewValue(0x00) 000:>:0093: Event PropertyNotify(28) window=0x0186 atom=0x15c("_NET_WM_STATE") time=0x04931165 state=NewValue(0x00) 000:<:0094: 24: Request(20): GetProperty delete=false(0x00) window=0x0186 property=0x15c("_NET_WM_STATE") type=0x4("ATOM") long-offset=0x long-length=0x0400 000:>:0094:36: Reply to GetProperty: type=0x4("ATOM") bytes-after=0x data=; Under fvwm2, the xtrace info looks like this: 000:<:008b: 24: Request(16): InternAtom only-if-exists=false(0x00) name='WM_CHANGE_STATE' 000:>:008b:32: Reply to InternAtom: atom=0x1b1("WM_CHANGE_STATE") 000:<:008c: 44: Request(25): SendEvent propagate=false(0x00) destination=0x009b event-mask=SubstructureNotify,SubstructureRedirect ClientMessage(33) format=0x20 window=0x01c6 type=0x1b1("WM_CHANGE_STATE") data=0x03,0x00,0x00,0x00,0xa0,0x7c,0x34,0x02,0x28,0xce,0x13,0x02,0x00,0x00,0x00,0x00,0x06,0x00,0xc0,0x01; 000:>:008c: Event UnmapNotify(18) event=0x01c6 window=0x01c6 from-configure=false(0x00) 000:>:008c: Event PropertyNotify(28) window=0x01c6 atom=0x185(unrecognized atom) time=0x04aa349c state=NewValue(0x00) 000:<:008d: 8: Request(10): UnmapWindow window=0x01c5 000:>:008d: Event PropertyNotify(28) window=0x01c6 atom=0x15c("_NET_WM_STATE") time=0x04aa349d state=NewValue(0x00) 000:<:008e: 4: Request(127): NoOperation 000:<:008f: 24: Request(20): GetProperty delete=false(0x00) window=0x01c6 property=0x15c("_NET_WM_STATE") type=0x4("ATOM") long-offset=0x long-length=0x0400 000:>:008f:36: Reply to GetProperty: type=0x4("ATOM") bytes-after=0x data=; Note that fvwm2 returns the UnmapNotify event to the client (in response to the ClientMessage event), but Gnome Shell (and presumably Unity) doesn't. As a result, wish does not send the UnmapWindow request to the window manager under Gnome Shell. The ICCCM (section 4.1.4) says "Clients can select for StructureNotify on their top-level windows to track transitions between Normal and Iconic states. Receipt of a MapNotify event will indicate a transition to the Normal state, and receipt of an UnmapNotify event will indicate a transition to the Iconic state. The relevant Tk code is in the tk8.6 source package (http://packages.ubuntu.com/source/trusty/tk8.6). At the bottom of unix/tkUnixWm.c the TkpWmSetState() function calls XIconifyWindow(), followed by WaitForMapNotify(). It is WaitForMapNotify() that prints out the message that it is giving up. There's an interesting comment in WaitForMapNotify()

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1615732] Re: Execution of filter 'Junk check' fails with "Empty cache file"
Affecting Ubuntu Evolution LTS 18.04 too -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1615732 Title: Execution of filter 'Junk check' fails with "Empty cache file" Status in Evolution: Unknown Status in evolution package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in evolution package in Debian: New Bug description: I currently use an Evolution setup in which I retrieve email via IMAP from an unfiltered mailbox, and then use Evolution to automatically filter for spam/junk mail. This process works as expected upon starting Evolution: all email is retrieved from the mailbox (and thus resides in the Inbox folder, where it arrived), then it's filtered to identify spam, and then the spam is moved from the Inbox to a Junk folder. However, after Evolution has been running for some time (hard to estimate because it requires an email to be received, but likely 5-10 minutes; it's possible that this is just "one email refresh interval" but also possible that something else is going on), newly received email stops being filtered for spam, and all the email remains in the Inbox. This happens at least in the case of receiving one email at a time, and most likely in the case where multiple emails are received in one send/receive cycle. When this failure to remove spam/junk happens, there's a yellow banner at the top of the screen saying, for example (the filename is not always the same), "Error while performing operation. Execution of filter 'Junk check' failed: Empty cache file: /home/ais523/.cache/evolution/mail/1440221975.23984.44@tundra/folders/INBOX/cur/1f/23052" I checked the contents of the file in question; it appears to be a copy of the email that was just received, including all headers. (It's possible that there's a race condition here and that the file was empty when the filter looked at it, but became populated just after it errored out, but perhaps something else is going on.) This behaviour is a problem because it means that either I have to delete junk mail by hand, or else that I have to repeatedly close and reopen Evolution so that the automated system will work. Public bug reported: The Danish translation of gnome-sudoku lacks many strings as it has not been synchronized with upstream for years: https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-sudoku Meanwhile gnome-sudoku is and has always been completely translated upstream. Indeed it has been fully translated for every release of GNOME ever since it forked out of gnome-games.
