[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1731940] Re: [P7xxDM2(-G), Realtek ALC898, Headphone Jack, External] No sound at all
Not working. Confirmed for the approach in the previous comment. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to alsa-driver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1731940 Title: [P7xxDM2(-G), Realtek ALC898, Headphone Jack, External] No sound at all Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Hello there, I have Ubuntu 16.04LTS installed on the Clevo P751DM2-G, also marketed as the Schenker XMG U507, the System76's Serval WS (2017 model), the Eurocom Sky X4E2, among others. The sound card is the Realtek ALC898 with the following output configuration: 1. One SPDIF/headphone combo jack (to the right) 2. One Line Out. 3. One Line-In. 4. One Mic-In. Background information: On Windows, one can use the Realtek HD Audio control panel pop-up menu on jack detection to set the output type when an audio device is plugged in to an appropriate jack, combined with Sound Blaster X-Fi MB5 software to enable post-processing effects such as Bass, noise cancellation, etc. What I have tried so far: 1. Setting the model definition at /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf with the following entries: options snd-hda-intel model=no-primary-hp enable=1 index=0 Using such a line worked before on an MSI GS43VR 6RE Phantom Pro that also has the same (or a similar) ESS Sabre Audio DAC component. Expected behavior: When plugged into the microphone jack, the ESS Sabre DAC should be activated and sound should be routed to the headset. Observed anomaly: Sound comes out through the speakers instead. However, the line-out output works. In that case, when plugged into the line out, Audio works as expected. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1759714] Re: [nvidia] Xorg suddenly starts to consume 100% CPU, apparently triggered by Chrome
[Expired for nvidia-graphics-drivers-340 (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-340 (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1759714 Title: [nvidia] Xorg suddenly starts to consume 100% CPU, apparently triggered by Chrome Status in nvidia-graphics-drivers-340 package in Ubuntu: Expired Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: I navigated to a website in Chrome (linledIn.com) and both Chrome and Xorg started consuming around 100% CPU each (one was actually significantly above 100% but I can't remember which one). Then I closed Chrome entirely (and I check there was no Chrome process left), but Xorg kept consuming around 100% CPU. No other process was. I closed all applications I had opened, but nothing stopped Xorg from consuming around 100% CPU while nobody was doing nothing. I had to kill Xorg. It might have been a complete coincidence that Xorg's crazy CPU usage started when I opened that website in Chrome, or it might actually have been caused by it, even by a bug in Chrome. But even if that is the case, if an application can cause Xorg to consume 100% CPU and then not stop even after the application has been closed, that is a bug in Xorg. Also, something quite similar happens to me very often: sometimes I open Google Maps in Chrome and (not every time, far from it), the same as described above happens, that is, both Chrome and Xorg start consuming a lot of CPU. However, in those cases, usually when I close Chrome, Xorg's CPU consumptions goes back to normal (and then I'm able to reopen Chrome and everything works normally). This was the first time that Xorg's abnormal CPU consumption persisted after closing Chrome which seemed to have triggered it. I'm not sure whether the two cases are actually caused by the same issue or not. I know I'm providing little information but this is all I have. Note that the issue is critical. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1729028] Re: gnome-shell crashes when monitor sleeps or is turned off
I wasn't having any problems with Ubuntu 18.04 but ever since I upgraded to Ubuntu 18.10 gnome-shell seems to crash two out of every three times the screensaver starts. I used ubuntu-bug on a /var/crash file but I have no idea what happened to it: it showed me the info in a window and I said go ahead and send it, then it disappeared and I got no email or anything. FYI, I have an older system with an old NVidia card, no 4k monitor although I do use two monitors. I use Xg not wayland. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1729028 Title: gnome-shell crashes when monitor sleeps or is turned off Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Gnome shell crashes reliably and only after a period of inactivity (15+ minutes). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1563110]
In case anyone is searching the web to seek solutions, I'll put on the record that 4.20.4, with the patch as generated above, along with the UCM files that have been posted on git at https://github.com/heikomat/linux/tree/cx2072x/cx2072x_fixes_and_manual/chtcx2072x - sound is now functioning on my Asus Transformer Mini T103HA. Shouldn't really matter as I am using an updated but otherwise vanilla kernel from ftp.kernel.org, but again, for the record, this is under Slackware Current (live ISO from alienBob 1.3.0.2, 20190117). Thanks all. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 529268] Re: Libmtp 1.0.1/1.0.2 doesn't display music on Sansa Fuze
Upstream made the following comment 8 years ago "Typically this bugs are caused by the fact that you compiled and installed a new libmtp without obtaining the latest version of the apps [Rhythmbox, Amarok, gnomad2] and recompiled these too. For example when clicking Alt-F4, sometimes it gets stuck so all the windows are closed instead of just one. My configuration is Feisty + Xgl + Compiz Fusion. My previous configuration was Edgy + Xgl + Beryl, where this didn't happen. Others have reported the same problem without using either Xgl or Compiz. The keyboard itself isn't the problem. When dual-booting to Windows, everything works fine. Also, the problem happens with two different keyboards (internal laptop, external USB). My best guess is that the problem occurs at time of high system load. Somehow during these times the key-release signal gets lost and the key-press is repeated indefinitely. This happens more often with Compiz configurations because Compiz tends to increase system load. It also happens more often with power-hungry apps like Firefox and Acrobat Reader for similar reasons. PS: When the keys would repeat all input devices would be locked up. ie. mouse won't move, clicks don't do anything, keyboard presses don't register. Then when it becomes unstuck, the mouse moves around and everything. Hope this helps. I was seeing this same warning. The only overlap of extensions with the list above and my list (I only use 3 extensions) is 'system- moni...@paradoxxx.zero.gmail.com'. I realized I had installed that extension from source rather than through the extensions website since it needed to be built from source for a while due to prerequisites, and I hadn't updated it. I uninstalled and re-installed it from the Extensions web site. So far I haven't seen this warning come back. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1813139] Re: Screen unlocked after resume, black flickering
So far, I have not experienced the problem again. Thank you for your help! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1813139 Title: Screen unlocked after resume, black flickering Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I have been experiencing an issue only since a week or so, which I have reportedly also heard from a colleague of mine (2018 Dell XPS 13) since much longer. My hardware is a Lenovo Thinkpad L480 with i5-8250u. When using stock ubuntu 18.04.1, sometimes and sporadically (1 out of 3 or so) after resuming from suspend, the screen would not be locked and flicker, switching between a fully black screen and the previously (before going to standby) displayed content, which I regard as a security issue. The GUI is not responsive, however I can workaround using ctrl-alt-F1 and login using my password to "semi"-restore functionality. The flickering is then gone, but e.g. the dock doesn't respond correctly and my notifications are missing, until I restart gnome-shell. This then leaves me with a fully functional system again, which is why I have not regarded my issue the same as other bug reports, which report a system freeze. I have tried using gnome-session instead of ubuntu-session for the past day as of writing this report and have NOT yet experienced the issue again, so I assume it has something to do with ubuntu's theme or alike. Please provide information which log files could be helpful and I am going to try and reproduce the issue on ubuntu-session. --- ProblemType: Bug ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.5 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME DisplayManager: gdm3 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 InstallationDate: Installed on 2019-01-03 (20 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS "Bionic Beaver" - Release amd64 (20180725) Package: gnome-shell 3.28.3-0ubuntu0.18.04.4 PackageArchitecture: amd64 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-43.46-generic 4.15.18 Tags: bionic Uname: Linux 4.15.0-43-generic x86_64 UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) UserGroups: adm cdrom dip lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo _MarkForUpload: True To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1813139/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Now, either with password either without, sometimes (about 50%) returning from suspend or lock screen, the dash is above the lock screen and either I cannot login either I login but the app-icons missing from topbar and the gnome desktop lags in general or dash is non transparent and again app-icons missing from topbar and the gnome desktop lags in general. Hope it helps -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1803527 Title: ubuntu 18.10 fails to restore from suspend if no password Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: my system: ubuntu 18.10 4k monitor with 1 scale and 1.5 font scale nvidia 410 and 390 drivers are checked when happened: lock screen or suspend. return after that. if I have user password prompt enabled: everything ok if I haven't user password prompt enabled, system started with gnome crashed I expect: ubuntu to has the same behaviour either I have a password either not. What happened: in case of no password (I should just 'swipe up' or press 'space' and everything should be ready.. but) most of the times I can not return to desktop. - freezes on a screen with panels but no desktop - freezes on a purple screen that no command is working (as ctrl+alt+t) - freezes on a useless gnome panels (dash and topbar) mode solution chosen: I press ctrl+alt+F1 to change environment, I enter my password... BUT again the gnome is too slow, app icon is always on and everything is acting weird (some apps' icon that I have opened on the other session is liked pined on dash without have the option to unpin it - like I see it but it is not pinned) So, I just save what I can through the new session and just restart the pc (in new session is available - in the previous is only suspend available) frequency: about 80% of the times. If lock-screen showed up normally (and I have to press space to unlock) everything works like a charm afterwards. But I find that if I set desktop icons to inactive (gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background show-desktop-icons false) that the problem goes away until I reactivate them, in which case the immediate moment that I turn them back on in the settings the desktop image dims. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1796265] Re: Ubuntu Dock is missing after unlocking screen
I think I have a similar problem. It started on 24-JAN-2019 I think. When I return to my PC after a while I hit Escape to get rid of the shield as normal (I don't have a password lock) and return to my desktop but with all my previous running applications missing. The left hand bar is present and I can click on it but nothing happens. If I use Ctrl-Alt-F1 and enter my password again I am returned to my desktop with everything as I left it and can resume work. I am having to do this every time I return to my PC. I have no custom Gnome extensions. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1796265 Title: Ubuntu Dock is missing after unlocking screen Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: Expired Status in gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: After locking the screen, unlocking it again does not return me to a properly working gnome-shell. Bug won't expire due bug watch No activity here or upstream for over 3 years No reply to comment #10 so closing Please feel free to re-open if anyone sees the problem again ** Changed in: firefox (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Invalid ** Changed in: thunderbird (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to thunderbird in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1301225 Title: Parts of Text disappear in Firefox and Thunderbird Editors /Text Areas Status in firefox package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in thunderbird package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: System info: Firefox 28 Thunderbird 24.4.0 Ubuntu 13.10 64 bit When I edit text in Firefox or Thunderbird, parts of this text (usually entire rows above the cursor) seem to disappear while I type. This happens e.g. when I edit an email message inThunderbird, or edit a Jira comment or a Wikipedia page in Firefox. Sometimes the 'opposite' happens, i.e. a row is copied, so it is shown twice. The text is not really gone; I can restore it by selecting it (e.g. with Ctrl-a). I.e. only the text display is affected. The behavior is not quite reproducible. It does happen frequently, but I can't reproduce it exactly by typing the same text again. I had never observed this behavior before the latest Firefox upgrade.
