[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1933027] Re: Gdm3 with smartcard asks for login/smartcard pin even if there is no smartcard authentication enabled
Yep this got me today. Unable to login due to YubiKey plugged in to the system. GDM sees the key and wants me to use it to authenticate, it's not set up for that and I had to pull the YubiKey to be able to log in with username & password. Poking around in /etc/pam.d/ I found there's a few options ror smartcard configuration, and as a workaround just enabled one that allows both password and smartcard auth: $ sudo update-alternatives --config gdm-smartcard There are 3 choices for the alternative gdm-smartcard (providing /etc/pam.d/gdm-smartcard). SelectionPath Priority Status 0/etc/pam.d/gdm-smartcard-sssd-exclusive 50auto mode 1/etc/pam.d/gdm-smartcard-pkcs11-exclusive 30manual mode 2/etc/pam.d/gdm-smartcard-sssd-exclusive 50manual mode * 3/etc/pam.d/gdm-smartcard-sssd-or-password 40manual mode Press to keep the current choice[*], or type selection number: -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1933027 Title: Gdm3 with smartcard asks for login/smartcard pin even if there is no smartcard authentication enabled Status in gdm3 package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I use my Ubuntu PC with Yubikey almost always plugged in. It provides several security token interfaces, such as U2F, GPG smartcard, proprieritary Yubico interfaces (of which I mostly use TOTP codes), and also PIV smartcard. However, I haven't configured a PIV smartcard on it. Whenever I login into the system having Yubikey plugged in, I'm prompted for login name, and then for PIN for some smartcard while also being asked to plug in one. This is very misleading on several layers: 1. I have the device providing smartcard plugged id, 2. But it's not the smartcard GDM would think it is as it's not configured properly, 3. There are no local smartcard-authenticating users right now in the system, 3. There are no remote authentication systems configured on the system (so no ActiveDirectory-smartcard logins or such). If I unplug the token UX goes back on old good track. Given the circumstances above, I'd consider that GDM (and, on my bet, any PAM configuration it uses) shouldn't offer to login using smartcard if there is no way to actually do so. I feel something is off here, so I'm reporting a bug. It could be an upstream problem though; it also could be an upstream SSSD problem, or all combined. I believe there is a more clear user experience: 1. GDM should display users that can login into the system, as it always does (if configured). It may also provide entering other login name (also if configured). This is GDM usually does without smartcards altogether. 2. When user is chosen (from the list or manually typed in), check can this user even authenticate with smartcards (i.e. if any of available smartcards is actually recognised for this user). If so, then ask for PIN. Else, don't show anything about smartcards at all (this includes when SSSD is not configured for any AD or related and this user has no local smartcard configuration). This can switch there & back based on device events. I've seen other OS doing this. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1863390] Re: GPU lockup ring 0 stalled for more than X msec
I'm now getting radeon GPU lockup with the Ubuntu 5.11.0-25 and 5.11.0-27 kernels. The 5.8.0-63 kernel and all previous work fine. $ lspci | grep ATI 05:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] RV620 GL [FirePro 2450] 06:00.0 Display controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] RV620 GL [FirePro 2450] I use three (of four possible) 1600x1200 LCD monitors on the four FirePro outputs. Selected lines from /var/log/syslog are attached. These are the actual repeating lockup lines: Aug 17 15:20:44 linux kernel: [ 7403.029720] radeon :06:00.0: GPU lockup (current fence id 0x0001 last fence id 0x0002 on ring 0) Aug 17 15:20:44 linux kernel: [ 7403.541687] radeon :06:00.0: ring 0 stalled for more than 11304msec The last two lines "GPU lockup" and "ring 0 stalled" repeat over and over. The keyboard and the X11 display won't respond. I can ssh into the machine, and I can type "reboot", but it hangs somewhere in the shutdown (or else it is waiting for something longer than I'm willing to wait). The system reboots when I type ALT-SYSRQ-B on the keyboard, and I select the 5.8.0-63 kernel and everything is fine. ** Attachment added: "Selected drm and radeon lines from syslog" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/1863390/+attachment/5518846/+files/radeon.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1863390 Title: GPU lockup ring 0 stalled for more than X msec Status in xserver-xorg-video-ati package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Since the update: xserver-xorg-video-ati-hwe-18.04 (1:19.0.1-1ubuntu1~18.04.1) bionic; which resulted from: https://bugs.launchpad.net/fedora/+source/xserver-xorg-video- ati/+bug/1841718 I've experienced GPU freezes where all video becomes unresponsive, both Xorg and Ctrl+Alt terminal switching, and the GPU fan goes to full. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1940467] [NEW] [snap] Nitrokey FIDO2 does not work with Chromium snap
Public bug reported: I have a Nitrokey FIDO2, which works fine with the Firefox deb package. However, it does not work at all with the Chromium snap. I have libu2f-udev installed. This problem can be fixed by adding the following line to /etc/udev/rules.d/70-snap.chromium.rules: # u2f-devices # Nitrokey FIDO2 SUBSYSTEM=="hidraw", KERNEL=="hidraw*", ATTRS{idVendor}=="20a0", ATTRS{idProduct}=="42b1", TAG+="snap_chromium_chromium" TAG=="snap_chromium_chromium", RUN+="/usr/lib/snapd/snap-device-helper $env{ACTION} snap_chromium_chromium $devpath $major:$minor" and then running sudo udevadm control --reload-rules && sudo udevadm trigger. After that, it works perfectly well. The Yubico YubiKey is already present with a very similar line, so this is merely a case of a missing rule. It would be very nice if support for the Nitrokey FIDO2 could be upstreamed. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1938588] Re: Ubuntu Server 18.04.5 install fails: TSC_DEADLINE disabled due to errata
** Package changed: ubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) => debian-installer (Ubuntu) ** Summary changed: - Ubuntu Server 18.04.5 install fails: TSC_DEADLINE disabled due to errata + intel-microcode not included 20.04 initrd -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to ubuntu-meta in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1938588 Title: intel-microcode not included 20.04 initrd Status in debian-installer package in Ubuntu: New Status in debian-installer source package in Focal: New Bug description: We have several factory-fresh Mitac industrial motherboards (https://www.mitacmct.com/IndustrialMotherboard_PH13FEI_PH13FEI) that we are unable to install Ubuntu Server 18.04.5 on. When we boot from the installation media we get the following error and the installation hangs (see attached screenshot, I've transcribed the error below too) ``` [0.00] [Firmware Bug]: TSC_DEADLINE disabled due to Errata; please update microcode to version: 0x52 (or later) [0.157025] ACPI Exception: AE_BAD_PARAMETER, Could not install PciConfig handler for Root Bridge PCI0 (20170831/evrgnini-241) ``` Googling the microcode bug, the normal advice appears to be "boot into an older, functioning kernel, update the `intel-microcode` package, and then reboot." But in this situation there is no older kernel to boot into; there is no OS installed _at all_ on these boards yet. I'm booting from a USB drive loaded with the latest version of Ubuntu Server 18.04. The only work-around I've found that works so far is to install Ubuntu Desktop 18.04, which can boot successfully on these boards, perform the minimal desktop installation, then use the desktop install to update the `intel-microcode` package, reboot, and then finally install Ubuntu Server. This is obviously not convenient needing to install a complete desktop OS just so I can update the microcode, and then immediately wiping it to install what I wanted in the first place. I have not tried Ubuntu 20.x or 21.x; I need to use Ubuntu 18.04 because these motherboards are being installed into robots that will be running ROS Melodic (ROS Noetic runs on 20.04, but these robots don't have Noetic support yet). I have tried the following to modify the Ubuntu Server ISO, without success: 1- Adding the microcode to initrd --- I unpacked the contents of the Ubuntu Server ISO, decompressed install/initrd.gz, and used the bash script here https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/x86/microcode.html to add the intel-microcode firmware to the image. Then I recompressed initrd.gz, and rebuild the ISO using xorisso. This did not have any effect: Ubuntu Server still encountered the same error when trying to install. 2- Using initrd from Ubuntu Desktop 18.04.5 -- I downloaded & unpacked Ubuntu Desktop 18.04.5 and replaced Ubuntu Server's install/initrd.gz with Ubuntu Desktop's casper/initrd (updating txt.cfg and grub.cfg to load the uncompressed initrd instead of the .gz that Ubuntu Server normally uses). Then I rebuilt the Ubuntu Server with xorisso again. The resulted in the system booting, but immediately dropping into an initramfs busybox shell, saying boot files were missing. I assume this is because Ubuntu Server uses the `boot=casper` flag in order to boot into the live desktop session. At this point I'm running out of ideas for how to be able to make Ubuntu Server's installation media work with these boards. Ubuntu Desktop has no problem booting on them, so it's obviously something specific to the Ubuntu Server image, but I'm not sure exactly what or how to fix it. If you need any additional information/logs/etc... please let me know and I'll be happy to provide them. Thanks! [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1940458] Re: Audio Device not recognized. Problem with sound.
After last Ubuntu Updates,I can watch now the HDMI/DisplayPort2, but when you go to Ubuntu Settings in Sound options (watch the screenshot attached in this comment), you can watch the HDMI/DisplayPort 2 and the config Salida Digital Estereo (Stereo Digital Output). If you change the config Stereo to HDMI 7.1 (I only have a stereo Speakers not 7.1 speakers), the config setting disappear in the Ubuntu Settings Menu and you can't select it again and you can't change it (check the screenshot). If you try to select HDMI/DisplayPort 2 it doesn't work because the 7.1 sound was selected and I have got a stereo speakers. To fix it I have opened pulse audio (check the other Screenshot attached) and in the top setting, GP102 HDMI Audio set the setting "Stereo Digital Output (HDMI2)". After that the sound was recovered. I don't know if the correct detection of the sound cards when switching on the PC was fixed or not. You will check if this part is fixed now with the last Ubuntu Updates. Thank you. ** Attachment added: "Screenshoot1.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1940458/+attachment/5518804/+files/Screenshoot1.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to alsa-driver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1940458 Title: Audio Device not recognized. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1940417] Re: In Firefox Random Toolbar menus (Library, Downloads Panel, Application Menu, etc.) won't open
Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users. ** Changed in: firefox (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1940417 Title: In Firefox Random Toolbar menus (Library, Downloads Panel, Application Menu, etc.) won't open Status in Mozilla Firefox: Unknown Status in firefox package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:91.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/91.0 Steps to reproduce: Open Downloads panel, Library or Application menu form the Toolbar by clicking on the corresponding icons. Actual results: From version 90 I noticed that Library or other items in the Toolbar won't open when I click it. Instead it flickers a few times on mouse movement - it looks like it opens but it's not visible, it becomes visible a fraction of a second when I move the mouse otherwise it's completely transparent. Which Toolbar icon this affects seems random. I tried to fix it by resetting the Toolbar and disabling extensions which have icons in the Toolbar. Then I noticed that Library was working normal again but Downloads or Application Menu wouldn't open. When this happened with the Application Menu I could barely see the contents of the menu by moving the mouse which made the menu flicker. The cursor was able to select menu items in the menu but it was completely transparent. In the enclosed screenshot you can see I selected the Library menu item but it isn't opened. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1938735] Re: Can't insert a row into a OpenOffice calc file
Yep this crash is easily reproducible on Focal, Hirsute and Impish. I created a spreadsheet of equal rows and columns and tried various things but could not reproduce the crash on my spreadsheet - only the one provided by the reporter. So I have no idea what it is about that spreadsheet causing the problem. I'll report it upstream and see what they have to say :) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1938735 Title: Can't insert a row into a OpenOffice calc file Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu: New Status in libreoffice source package in Focal: New Status in libreoffice source package in Impish: New Bug description: Mexican coin inventory is a large Calc file - 57.3 KB. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1937350] Status changed to Confirmed
This change was made by a bot. ** Changed in: linux Status: New => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to udisks2 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1937350 Title: USB HDD not properly spin down after safely remove Status in Linux: Confirmed Status in Ubuntu MATE: New Status in linux package in Ubuntu: New Status in udisks2 package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I do not know which package I should file the bug for. I am using Ubuntu MATE 20.04 LTS and Microsoft Windows 10. On Microsoft Windows 10, no issue with safely remove any USB external HDD. When using Microsoft Windows 10, after safely remove my external HDD, the HDD will spin down. But, on Ubuntu MATE 20.04 LTS, some issues occur after I try to safely remove my external HDD. Tried different hard drive, different enclosures, and also some external hard drive that came bundled with enclosure. All having same or different issues after safely remove them in Ubuntu MATE. Problems will also occur on those branded external HDD that came bundled with enclosure, for example, those Seagate Backup Plus drives ( https://www.seagate.com/as/en/consumer/backup/backup-plus/ ). Here are the common problems after safely remove (in Ubuntu MATE): 1. The external HDD will spin down and then spin up again, and then being automatically remounted again. The "dmesg" command shows errors. 2. The external HDD will spin down and then spin up again, no remount. The LED on the enclosure keep flashing. The "dmesg" command shows errors. After you unplug the HDD, you can connect another HDD. 3. The external HDD will spin down and then spin up again, no remount. The LED on the enclosure keep flashing. The "dmesg" command shows errors. BUT, after you unplug the HDD, when you connect another HDD, the computer will not detect it and will not mount it until you reboot the computer. But, before reboot connecting another device (e.g. keyboard, mouse, etc) to the same USB port, the device works perfectly. 4. The external HDD will spin down and then spin up again, no remount. But, after a few seconds, it spin down again. But, still, the "dmesg" command shows errors. Different HDD, different enclosure, show different symptoms or problems. Some HDD enclosures, number 1 above will occur. Some HDD enclosures, either number 2 or 3 above will occur. Sometimes, problem number 2 above will occur. Sometimes, problem number 3 will occur. Some enclosure, problem number 4 will occur. Here, I will use the following enclosure as example in this bug report: Product link: https://www.ugreen.com/products/usb-c-2-5-sata-iii-hard- drive-enclosure Purchase link in my country: https://shopee.com.my/UGREEN-USB-3.1-To- SATA-III-External-Hard-Drive- Enclosure-(2.5-)-i.64923440.1583255569?position=1 Here are the steps to reproduce (for the enclosure above): 1. Connect the external HDD to any available USB 3.0 port. The HDD will be mounted. Caja (Ubuntu MATE default file manager) will launch. 2. Close the Caja window. Do not do anything on the HDD. 3. Use left or right hand, touch the HDD enclosure to feel the spinning. Do not let your hand leave the enclosure, so that you can continue feel the spinning. 4. Use your another hand to operate your computer. 5. Go to desktop. 6. Right click on the external HDD icon. 7. Click "Safely Remove Drive". The HDD unmounted. Assume that one of your hands still touching the enclosure of the HDD, you will feel that the HDD will spin down and then spin up again. No remount. The LED indicator on the enclosure will keep flashing. These are described in problem number 2 and 3 above. Sometimes, after you unplug the drive and try to connect another drive, it will not be detected until you reboot your computer. Almost all external HDDs I tested will cause "dmesg" command to shows "Buffer I/O error" and "Synchronize Cache() failed" error after "Safely Remove Drive". In Microsoft Windows 10, all above mentioned problems WILL NOT occur. --- ProblemType: Bug ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu27.18 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC1: cshong 1059 F pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC0: cshong 1059 F pulseaudio CasperMD5CheckResult: skip CurrentDesktop: MATE DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 InstallationDate: Installed on 2020-11-23 (242 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu-MATE 20.04.1 LTS "Focal Fossa" - Release amd64 (20200731) IwConfig: lono wireless extensions. enp3s0no wireless extensions.
