[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1945121] Re: Ubuntu auto-suspends when I unplug my laptop after not having used it for a few minutes.

Status in GNOME Settings Daemon: Unknown Status in Mutter: Unknown Status in gnome-settings-daemon package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in mutter package in Ubuntu: Fix Committed Bug description: I'm using Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS I have my power settings so that Ubuntu will never auto-suspend if plugged in, but will do so after 20 minutes if on battery power. If I leave it plugged in but untouched for 20 minutes, and then unplug it (to move it to another room when I come back to it), then it suspends on the way there. It would seem more intuitive that unplugging/plugging in would be considered interaction, and would reset the delay. The expected behavior, in that case, would be that it gets unplugged, stays on, and then suspends after 20 minutes if there is no further interaction. I know any official fix would probably take a while, if one is even considered. Is there any workaround? [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1551515] Re: My phone's bluetooth is displayed dozens of times under the network list (wifi icon)
[Expired for network-manager (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: network-manager (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1551515 Title: My phone's bluetooth is displayed dozens of times under the network list (wifi icon) Status in One Hundred Papercuts: Expired Status in NetworkManager: Incomplete Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: I can hardly even start describing how screwed up this is. Have a look at the screenshot. I had seen this before and hadn't even realized that "XT1039 Network" repeated like 37 times had something to do with my own Android phone, a motorola Moto G. Needless to say I have only one. Out of curiosity I clicked on one of "them" (thinking this was some neighboor's device, obviously suspecting it was just one device repeated several times because of a bug), and then my phone vibrated prompting me whether to accept the connection from the computer. Which I did. As a result, the bluetooth indicator next to the network indicator showed a lock icon for a fraction of a second, which immediately disappeared. I guess that means that the computer and the phone peered via bluetooth for a few instants. At the same time, the wifi icon started animating (as if the computer was connecting to a wifi network... or a network of any kind I guess, since the same stupidly designed wifi-like animation is used when connecting to LAN via an ethernet cable). After that, the small lock below the bluetooth icon disappeared, the wifi icon stopped animating and went back to its normal "connected" status (I was previously and still connected to my home router's wifi network), and a baloon saying "Disconnected [NL] Network" appeared and disappeared. Then I repeated the test several times with the same result, except that the phone didn't prompt me any more to accept the connection. This is totally screwed up in several ways. First, there's no reason "XT1039 Network" should be listed AT ALL together with wifi and ethernet networks. What kind of "network" is it supposed to be?? Of course I have not turned on bluetooth tethering on the phone, and bluetooth connection to the phone is already available under the bluetooth indicator. If it makes any sense at all to show the mobile device as a "network" alongside with wifi and cable networks because, well, bluetooth is a network as well, then 1) the list of bluetooth "networks" should have a header, just like "wifi networks" and "ethernet network". Right now, there is just a list of networks that you don't know what kind they are 2) the device should be only listed once, not 37 times 3) I also suspect the 3 items called just "network" are related 4) If it is there at all, it must work. What is it supposed to do? The same as unfolding the menu under the Bluetooth indicator, hovering on the device there (which is listed only once there) and turning on the "Connection" switch? That one does work. This one (in the list of networks) doesn't. And if it is supposed to do something different, it's clearly failing as well. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1902385] Re: At times I have an app. menu that opens and never closes
This might be related to bug 1785527. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1902385 Title: At times I have an app. menu that opens and never closes Status in gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: It has happened twice in the last little bit where I opened a menu on an icon in the dock and the menu remains opened "forever" (until next reboot). Opening other menus from other icons in the dock works as expected. In most cases, the menu that's stuck is "transparent" to clicks, that is, when I try to click a menu item, the thing behind the menu gets clicked. When I'm able to click on an item in the menu (it turns orange when I do that successfully) then the mouse pointer is stuck over that item and that's it... nothing happens. Using Cmd-Tab to switch between windows waken the mouse up so I could use it again. I tried to restart the GDM3, the dock & menu came back as it was before the restart. sudo systemctl restart display-manager I tried once to Log Out (instead of rebooting) and the graphical interface didn't come back. I tried to restart the GDM from another computer (remotely through SSH) and the screen flashed a bit but it went right back to the boot console. So in other words the Log Out failed. Probably waiting on something that has a deadlock? The only way I've found to fix the issue is to reboot the computer (which I do not like to do too much... plus it takes about 3 min. with my monster server). It sounds like a known issue where the chromium snap is being refreshed in the background while it is running. I highly recommend enabling app refresh awareness if it isn't already: snap set core experimental.refresh-app-awareness=true (see https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/wip-refresh-app-awareness/10736 for details). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1945700] [NEW] Settings for multiple displays do not persist
Public bug reported: Hi, I'd like to report the following bug. I'm trying to setup multiple displays, but whatever settings I try to set, after pressing 'Apply' and 'Keep Settings', they revert back to the previous settings. I have one built-in laptop display (D1) and one external display (D2), connected via a USB-C dock using DisplayLink and HDMI. Display Mode is set to 'Join Displays'. It seems whatever settings I change, they don't persist. I tried the following settings: - Change the primary display from (D1) to (D2). Reverts back to (D1) being the primary. - Change the order of the displays to match my physical setup (D2 on the left, D1 on the right). Reverts back to D1 on the left, D2 on the right. - Change the order of the displays putting D1 on top of D2. Reverts back to D1 on the left, D2 on the right. - Change the refresh rate of D2 from 60 Hz to 50 Hz. Reverts back to 60 Hz. If you need any further information, please let me know. It's not trivial to reproduce, but there are enough duplicates that this deserves an SRU to bionic & focal. [Fix] Backport a commit from upstream: From dbb55e1a5e82870466b095097d9e46046680ec25 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Frediano Ziglio Date: Wed, 29 Jan 2020 09:06:54 + Subject: [PATCH] Fix poll_for_response race condition In poll_for_response is it possible that event replies are skipped and a more up to date message reply is returned. This will cause next poll_for_event call to fail aborting the program. This was proved using some slow ssh tunnel or using some program to slow down server replies (I used a combination of xtrace and strace). How the race happens: - program enters into poll_for_response; - poll_for_event is called but the server didn't still send the reply; - pending_requests is not NULL because we send a request (see call to append_pending_request in _XSend); - xcb_poll_for_reply64 is called from poll_for_response; - xcb_poll_for_reply64 will read from server, at this point server reply with an event (say sequence N) and the reply to our last request (say sequence N+1); - xcb_poll_for_reply64 returns the reply for the request we asked; - last_request_read is set to N+1 sequence in poll_for_response; - poll_for_response returns the response to the request; - poll_for_event is called (for instance from another poll_for_response); - event with sequence N is retrieved; - the N sequence is widen, however, as the "new" number computed from last_request_read is less than N the number is widened to N + 2^32 (assuming last_request_read is still contained in 32 bit); - poll_for_event enters the nested if statement as req is NULL; - we compare the widen N (which now does not fit into 32 bit) with request (which fits into 32 bit) hitting the throw_thread_fail_assert. To avoid the race condition and to avoid the sequence to go back I check again for new events after getting the response and return this last event if present saving the reply to return it later. To test the race and the fix it's helpful to add a delay (I used a "usleep(5000)") before calling xcb_poll_for_reply64. Original patch written by Frediano Ziglio, see https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/lib/libx11/-/merge_requests/34 Reworked primarily for readability by Peter Hutterer, see https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/lib/libx11/-/merge_requests/53 Signed-off-by: Peter Hutterer bionic needs another commit so that the real fix applies. [Test case] It's a race condition, the SRU sponsor (tjaalton) does not have a test case for this, but the bug subscribers seem to. [Where things could go wrong] In theory there might be a case where a race still happens, but since this has been upstream for a year now with no follow-up commits, it's safe to assume that there are no regressions. -- STEPS TO REPRODUCE == The bug seems to occur when clicking on a file or folder. Then, we completely disconnected the first remote server (foo.bar), and logically the VPN client should have reconnected to the "foo2.bar" server, AKA the fallback server. But, after more than 10 minutes, the connection is still non- reestablished (although the default value of the connect-timeout parameter is 120s). The GUI was acting like the connection is still up, although the remote VPN network was unreachable. We had to manually turn off the VPN client on the GUI and turn on again to reconnect (it took a very long time because it first tried to connect to the offline VPN server). If we launch the VPN client in command line, the fail-over works perfectly. The command used in CLI is simply : `sudo openvpn config.ovpn` The version of the packages are the following: network-manager/focal-updates,now 1.22.10-1ubuntu2.2 amd64 network-manager-openvpn-gnome/focal,now 1.8.12-1 amd64 network-manager-openvpn/focal,now 1.8.12-1 amd64 openvpn/focal-updates,now 2.4.7-1ubuntu2.20.04.3 amd64 Thank's in advance for lookin into this! [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1945592] [NEW] Viewing PDF doesn't use full screen width
Public bug reported: In Thunderbird 91, clicking on a .pdf attachment to an email loads the PDF file in a new tab, which is good. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1945587] [NEW] Double click on calendar item views rather than edits
Public bug reported: Not sure if this is a bug, or new intended behaviour. In Thunderbird 78, double clicking on a calendar item showed its edit dialog. In Thunderbird 91, double clicking on a calendar item shows a summary dialog, and you then have to click on the edit button to edit it. Since you almost always want to edit rather than view, this is less convenient. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1697122]
(In reply to Mathew Hodson from comment #25) > This bug should probably be reopened since the change was completely reverted. Confirmed. Need to set environment variable in Debian 11 with Firefox 78.12.0esr (64 bit). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1697122 Title: Package Firefox with MOZ_USE_XINPUT2=1 in environment to enable pixel scrolling with touchpad and touch gestures Status in Mozilla Firefox: Confirmed Status in firefox package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Ubuntu version: Kubuntu 17.04 Firefox version: 53.0.3+build1-0ubuntu0.17.04.2 In Firefox, two-finger scroll gestures on a touchpad are interpreted as scroll wheel rotations, and the content scrolls three lines at a time. This is inappropriate behavior for touchpad scrolling; it should scroll pixel-by-pixel. Firefox already has the ability to do this, you just need to turn it on by running the program with MOZ_USE_XINPUT2=1 in the environment: for example, by running `MOZ_USE_XINPUT2=1 firefox`, or adding it to /etc/environment or something like that. Turning on this behavior yields a large usability improvement for laptop users. Therefore, I am proposing that MOZ_USE_XINPUT2=1 be permanently added to the packaging such that it's always present when Firefox runs. This is what Fedora does, and it results in a much improved experience for the laptop user. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1932328] Re: Thunderbird under Wayland does not correctly close (or manage) windows
Looks like the fixes for Gnome 40 and 41 are in https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/4184 ** Bug watch added: gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues #4184 https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/4184 ** Also affects: gnome-shell via https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/4184 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Also affects: mutter (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: mutter (Ubuntu) Status: New => Fix Committed ** Tags added: fixed-in-40.6 fixed-upstream ** Changed in: thunderbird (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Invalid ** Changed in: gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1932328 Title: Thunderbird under Wayland does not correctly close (or manage) windows Status in GNOME Shell: Unknown Status in Mozilla Thunderbird: New Status in gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in mutter package in Ubuntu: Fix Committed Status in thunderbird package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Using Ubuntu 21.04 (Hirsute) that starts in Wayland, by default. Thunderbird version: 78.11.0 with "gnome-support" package. Same problem in safe mode. Description: By default in this context, TB is a Wayland task. When opening a compose windows (or reply or transfer), sending mail apparently close the windows, but gnome shell continue to show multiple "points", as if multiple windows are still active. And after closing TB, it seems maintained in the same state, so it becomes impossible to relaunch it from the desk. But task manager of "looking glass" does not show it and it is possible to launch from terminal. Provisional solution: Modify .desktop file to launch with --display=:0 option, that force to use XWayland interface, as shown by xlsclients (for example). But it is actually a bug under Wayland context, that also badly interfer with many add-ons or extensions.
