Bug description:
  I'm using Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS

  I have my power settings so that Ubuntu will never auto-suspend if
  plugged in, but will do so after 20 minutes if on battery power.

  If I leave it plugged in but untouched for 20 minutes, and then unplug
  it (to move it to another room when I come back to it), then it
  suspends on the way there.

  It would seem more intuitive that unplugging/plugging in would be
  considered interaction, and would reset the delay. The expected
  behavior, in that case, would be that it gets unplugged, stays on, and
  then suspends after 20 minutes if there is no further interaction.

  I know any official fix would probably take a while, if one is even
  considered. Is there any workaround?

Bug description:
  I can hardly even start describing how screwed up this is.
  Have a look at the screenshot.

  I had seen this before and hadn't even realized that "XT1039 Network"
  repeated like 37 times had something to do with my own Android phone,
  a motorola Moto G. Needless to say I have only one.

  Out of curiosity I clicked on one of "them" (thinking this was some
  neighboor's device, obviously suspecting it was just one device
  repeated several times because of a bug), and then my phone vibrated
  prompting me whether to accept the connection from the computer.

  Which I did. As a result, the bluetooth indicator next to the network
  indicator showed a lock icon for a fraction of a second, which
  immediately disappeared. I guess that means that the computer and the
  phone peered via bluetooth for a few instants. At the same time, the
  wifi icon started animating (as if the computer was connecting to a
  wifi network... or a network of any kind I guess, since the same
  stupidly designed wifi-like animation is used when connecting to LAN
  via an ethernet cable). After that, the small lock below the bluetooth
  icon disappeared, the wifi icon stopped animating and went back to its
  normal "connected" status (I was previously and still connected to my
  home router's wifi network), and a baloon saying "Disconnected [NL]
  Network" appeared and disappeared.

  Then I repeated the test several times with the same result, except
  that the phone didn't prompt me any more to accept the connection.

  This is totally screwed up in several ways.

  First, there's no reason "XT1039 Network" should be listed AT ALL
  together with wifi and ethernet networks. What kind of "network" is it
  supposed to be?? Of course I have not turned on bluetooth tethering on
  the phone, and bluetooth connection to the phone is already available
  under the bluetooth indicator.

  If it makes any sense at all to show the mobile device as a "network"
alongside with wifi and cable networks because, well, bluetooth is a network as
well, then
  1) the list of bluetooth "networks" should have a header, just like "wifi
networks" and "ethernet network". Right now, there is just a list of networks
that you don't know what kind they are
  2) the device should be only listed once, not 37 times
  3) I also suspect the 3 items called just "network" are related
  4) If it is there at all, it must work. What is it supposed to do? The same
as unfolding the menu under the Bluetooth indicator, hovering on the device
there (which is listed only once there) and turning on the "Connection" switch?
That one does work. This one (in the list of networks) doesn't. And if it is
supposed to do something different, it's clearly failing as well.

Bug description:
  This behavior can be reproduced using either a live USB or an
  installed version of the effected flavors. Simply insert a blank
  optical disc in the drive.

  The behavior differs slightly in Ubuntu GNOME as the notification to
  either Open with CD/DVD Creator or Eject is displayed twice - that is
  after simply clicking on the X to close that notification it closes
  but a new duplicate notification appaers immediately. The GNOME
  Classic session is not effected at all.

  In all other effected flavors and/or desktop environments a
  notification appears stating "Unable to mount Blank disc. Location is
  already mounted". Effected flavors and DE's include Ubuntu w/Unity,
  gnome-session-flashback, and Ubuntu MATE.

  Versions effected include Trusty, Utopic, and Vivid. I assume that two
  separate processes are actually attempting to mount the blank optical
  media, rather than just the file manager attemting to do so, because
  both Nautilus and Caja are effected (based on some of the comments
  below possibly also Nemo).

  While purely cosmetic in nature I'd certainly be willing to try and
  troubleshoot this if someone more tech savvy would provide some
  debugging instructions.

Bug description:
  Hi, I'd like to report the following bug. I'm trying to setup multiple
  displays, but whatever settings I try to set, after pressing 'Apply'
  and 'Keep Settings', they revert back to the previous settings.

  I have one built-in laptop display (D1) and one external display (D2),
  connected via a USB-C dock using DisplayLink and HDMI. Display Mode is
  set to 'Join Displays'.

  It seems whatever settings I change, they don't persist. I tried the
following settings:
  - Change the primary display from (D1) to (D2). Reverts back to (D1) being
the primary.
  - Change the order of the displays to match my physical setup (D2 on the
left, D1 on the right). Reverts back to D1 on the left, D2 on the right.
  - Change the order of the displays putting D1 on top of D2. Reverts back to
D1 on the left, D2 on the right.
  - Change the refresh rate of D2 from 60 Hz to 50 Hz. Reverts back to 60 Hz.

  If you need any further information, please let me know.

Title:
  At times I have an app. menu that opens and never closes

Status in gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  It has happened twice in the last little bit where I opened a menu on
  an icon in the dock and the menu remains opened "forever" (until next
  reboot).

  Opening other menus from other icons in the dock works as expected.

  In most cases, the menu that's stuck is "transparent" to clicks, that
  is, when I try to click a menu item, the thing behind the menu gets
  clicked.

  When I'm able to click on an item in the menu (it turns orange when I
  do that successfully) then the mouse pointer is stuck over that item
  and that's it... nothing happens. Using Cmd-Tab to switch between
  windows waken the mouse up so I could use it again.

  I tried to restart the GDM3, the dock & menu came back as it was
  before the restart.

  sudo systemctl restart display-manager

  I tried once to Log Out (instead of rebooting) and the graphical
  interface didn't come back. I tried to restart the GDM from another
  computer (remotely through SSH) and the screen flashed a bit but it
  went right back to the boot console. So in other words the Log Out
  failed. Probably waiting on something that has a deadlock?

  The only way I've found to fix the issue is to reboot the computer
  (which I do not like to do too much... plus it takes about 3 min. with
  my monster server).

  Indicator for active apps wrong – context menu does not disappear

Bug description:
  My system: Ubuntu 21.04 with Wayland

  From time to time the app icon in the dock indicates that there are
  more open windows, than actually are available.

  A right click on the icon opens a context menu which only can removed
  after some sort of re-rendering of the dock is enforced (e.g. switch
  active display or move dock to the bottom).

  This affects serveral different apps, like Thunderbird or Webex for
  Linux.

  Flaky test brotli/basic on focal amd64?

Status in libsoup2.4 package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  The brotli/basic test case periodically fails. It appears that a few
  retriggers can result in a pass:

  https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/libs/libsoup2.4/focal/amd64

  The failures look like this in autopkgtest logs:

  ERROR:../tests/brotli-decompressor-test.c:59:test_brotli:
  assertion failed ((char*)out_bytes->data == contents): ("***\nU" ==
  "***\n")

  I've replaced most of the text with '***' to highlight the difference
  is a 'U' character appended.

  The test case is essentially doing a decompression of 'brotli-
  data/compressed.br' and comparing that it matches 'brotli-
  data/uncompressed.txt'. I've done this manually using the brotli cli,
  and the files do indeed have the same content. I've also built the
  package and run the test case locally in a focal lxc container on
  amd64:

  $ cd
libsoup2.4-gu/debian/libsoup2.4-tests/usr/libexec/installed-tests/libsoup-2.4
  $ while : ; do ./brotli-decompressor-test | grep 'brotli/basic';  sleep
0.1; done

  I left that to run several hundred cycles but no failures reported at
  all.

  There are a bunch of instances of this failure, here's a few for
  reference:

https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-focal/focal/amd64/libs/libsoup2.4/20210602_152107_d1d56@/log.gz

https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-focal/focal/amd64/libs/libsoup2.4/20200508_211619_2aec8@/log.gz

  That last link is the earliest instance I've been able to find.

  You'll notice in the second two links they also have a failure "not ok
  2 /ssl/tls-interaction", but the first link shows only the brotli
  failure.

  Interestingly, I've not found instances of this failure against other
  architectures than amd64, nor have I seen it on releases other than
  focal. No dice from googling for bug reports or other reports of test
  failures with libsoup2.4 + brotli.

  The test's code is doing this, basically:

  SoupBrotliDecompressor *dec = soup_brotli_decompressor_new ();
  do {
  result = g_converter_convert (G_CONVERTER (dec), in_buf,
length, out_buf, sizeof out_buf, 0,
_read, _written,
);
  g_byte_array_append (out_bytes, out_buf, bytes_written);
in_buf += bytes_read;
  length -= bytes_read;

  } while (result == G_CONVERTER_CONVERTED);

  soup_brotli_decompressor's code is here:

  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/libsoup/-/blob/master/libsoup/content-
  decoder/soup-brotli-decompressor.c

  But I'm not spotting anything that would obviously cause a 'U' to be
  randomly appended sometimes. And why 'U'? UINT? Unknown? User error?

  There are some interesting bug reports in GNOME about brotli in
  libsoup's bug tracker (e.g. #106, #146, #119, and #193), but none that
  match this.

2021-09-30 Thread Olivier Tilloy
It sounds like a known issue where the chromium snap is being refreshed
in the background while it is running. I highly recommend enabling app
refresh awareness if it isn't already:

snap set core experimental.refresh-app-awareness=true

(see https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/wip-refresh-app-awareness/10736 for
details). Please let us know whether the problem happens again after
this.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1945700] [NEW] Settings for multiple displays do not persist

2021-09-30 Thread bartgenuit
Public bug reported:

Hi, I'd like to report the following bug. I'm trying to setup multiple
displays, but whatever settings I try to set, after pressing 'Apply' and
'Keep Settings', they revert back to the previous settings.

I have one built-in laptop display (D1) and one external display (D2),
connected via a USB-C dock using DisplayLink and HDMI. Display Mode is
set to 'Join Displays'.

It seems whatever settings I change, they don't persist. I tried the following
settings:
- Change the primary display from (D1) to (D2). Reverts back to (D1) being the
primary.
- Change the order of the displays to match my physical setup (D2 on the left,
D1 on the right). Reverts back to D1 on the left, D2 on the right.
- Change the order of the displays putting D1 on top of D2. Reverts back to D1
on the left, D2 on the right.
- Change the refresh rate of D2 from 60 Hz to 50 Hz. Reverts back to 60 Hz.

If you need any further information, please let me know.

  Commit 33e306c9d77c6688e02d0cbae9a1d86f404272d3 to ubiquity changed
  sensible-browser to xdg-open to open hyperlinks.

  Now, for some reason the link to the release notes

  http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/releasenotes?os=ubuntu=21.10=${LANG}

  is opened with gedit. Desktop files for both gedit and firefox show
  correct values for MimeType, however, xdg-mime query default text/xml
  outputs org.gnome.gedit.desktop

  /etc/mailcap still points to text/html; /usr/bin/sensible-browser

- I will attach relevant files here in a moment and will also look through
- the code.
-
  For now, I propose to revert the last commit, at least until the bug is
  fixed.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1945681] Re: firefox snap update for impish from hirsute forgot to move the datas

2021-09-30 Thread Olivier Tilloy
There is code in the firefox snap's launcher to handle importing an
existing profile. It will run only if the snap is being run for the very
first time. Could it be that you already had a
~/snap/firefox/common/.mozilla folder, from a previous installation of
the firefox snap?

Can you share the output of `snap connections firefox`?

Lastly, if you're willing to try the import again, please run the
following commands in a terminal (after closing firefox) and share the
output here:

rm -rf ~/snap/firefox/common/.mozilla
snap run firefox

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  There is a race in libx11 causing applications to randomly abort. It's
  not trivial to reproduce, but there are enough duplicates that this
  deserves an SRU to bionic & focal.

  [Fix]

  Backport a commit from upstream:

  From dbb55e1a5e82870466b095097d9e46046680ec25 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001
  From: Frediano Ziglio
  Date: Wed, 29 Jan 2020 09:06:54 +
  Subject: [PATCH] Fix poll_for_response race condition

  In poll_for_response is it possible that event replies are skipped
  and a more up to date message reply is returned.
  This will cause next poll_for_event call to fail aborting the program.

  This was proved using some slow ssh tunnel or using some program
  to slow down server replies (I used a combination of xtrace and strace).

  How the race happens:
  - program enters into poll_for_response;
  - poll_for_event is called but the server didn't still send the reply;
  - pending_requests is not NULL because we send a request (see call
to  append_pending_request in _XSend);
  - xcb_poll_for_reply64 is called from poll_for_response;
  - xcb_poll_for_reply64 will read from server, at this point
server reply with an event (say sequence N) and the reply to our
last request (say sequence N+1);
  - xcb_poll_for_reply64 returns the reply for the request we asked;
  - last_request_read is set to N+1 sequence in poll_for_response;
  - poll_for_response returns the response to the request;
  - poll_for_event is called (for instance from another poll_for_response);
  - event with sequence N is retrieved;
  - the N sequence is widen, however, as the "new" number computed from
last_request_read is less than N the number is widened to N + 2^32
(assuming last_request_read is still contained in 32 bit);
  - poll_for_event enters the nested if statement as req is NULL;
  - we compare the widen N (which now does not fit into 32 bit) with
request (which fits into 32 bit) hitting the throw_thread_fail_assert.

  To avoid the race condition and to avoid the sequence to go back
  I check again for new events after getting the response and
  return this last event if present saving the reply to return it
  later.

  To test the race and the fix it's helpful to add a delay (I used a
  "usleep(5000)") before calling xcb_poll_for_reply64.

  Original patch written by Frediano Ziglio, see
  https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/lib/libx11/-/merge_requests/34

  Reworked primarily for readability by Peter Hutterer, see
  https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/lib/libx11/-/merge_requests/53

  Signed-off-by: Peter Hutterer

  bionic needs another commit so that the real fix applies.

  [Test case]

  It's a race condition, the SRU sponsor (tjaalton) does not have a test
  case for this, but the bug subscribers seem to.

  [Where things could go wrong]

  In theory there might be a case where a race still happens, but since
  this has been upstream for a year now with no follow-up commits, it's
  safe to assume that there are no regressions.

  STEPS TO REPRODUCE

  The bug seems to occur when clicking on a file or folder. It is random and
difficult to provide clear steps to reproduce. It is, however, a common
situation.

  EXPECTED RESULTS

  pcmanfm works without problem.

  ACTUAL RESULTS

  ADDITIONAL NOTES

  Other GTK2 file managers (e.g. Thunar) and applications (e.g. GIMP, Leafpad)
seem to have the same problems. This is probably at least rooted in a GTK2 bug:

Bug description:
  Ubuntu Impish daily-live 20210930

  xdg-utils 1.1.3-2ubuntu2

  Commit 33e306c9d77c6688e02d0cbae9a1d86f404272d3 to ubiquity changed
  sensible-browser to xdg-open to open hyperlinks.

  Now, for some reason the link to the release notes

  http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/releasenotes?os=ubuntu=21.10=${LANG}

  is opened with gedit. Desktop files for both gedit and firefox show
  correct values for MimeType, however, xdg-mime query default text/xml
  outputs org.gnome.gedit.desktop

  /etc/mailcap still points to text/html; /usr/bin/sensible-browser

  I will attach relevant files here in a moment and will also look
  through the code.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1794997] Re: virNetlinkEventCallback:700 : nl_recv returned with error: No buffer space available

2021-09-30 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
I've dupped another case onto this, it stays an issue that from the libvirt
side has been handled by
https://gitlab.com/libvirt/libvirt/-/commit/8c70d04bab7278c96390a913fa949a17cd3124f9
 which is in >=Bionic.

AFAIU remaining issues as outlined in comment #2 are still considered
more an libnl/driver than a libvirt issue.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1943816] Re: "ubuntu-drivers install" needs to be used when installing nvidia-driver if enabling "third-party packages"

Title:
  "ubuntu-drivers install" needs to be used when installing nvidia-
  driver if enabling "third-party packages"

Status in OEM Priority Project:
  Confirmed
Status in ubiquity package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in ubuntu-drivers-common package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  ubiquity calls
  ```
  ubuntu-drivers install $FREEONLY $NOOEM --package-list
/run/ubuntu-drivers.autoinstall
  ```
  to generate package list during live system but "ubuntu-drivers install" not
only install packages but also create some config files for switching nvidia
mode (e.g. on-demand) and change the runtime config as well (e.g. modify the
iniramfs).

  Thus, not only package list needs to be referred but also the
  configuration.

  ---

  In ubuntu-drivers-common, which read the "/run/ubuntu-drivers.autoinstall" to
install package. It also skipping the nvidia-mode changing (made by
ubuntu-drivers install).
  ```
  $ cat ubiquity/target-config/31ubuntu_driver_packages
  #!/bin/sh
  set -e
  # install all packages that "ubuntu-drivers autoinstall" installed into the
  # live system. Ubiquity calls this with --package-list
/run/ubuntu-drivers.autoinstall
  PKGLIST=/run/ubuntu-drivers.autoinstall
  [ -e $PKGLIST ] || exit 0
  for p in `cat $PKGLIST`; do
  apt-install $p
  done
  ```

  ---

  We need to use a same approach to make sure the nvidia mode is same on
  a same system (either all handing by ubuntu-drivers install or change
  the logic to maintainer script in each package).

the first beta candidate had the issue, maybe that's the image you

anyway it should be fixed so closing the bug but feel free to reopen

Bug description:
  In the current state of Impish two versions of Firefox are installed,

  problems with hyperlinks.

  When setting default browser app the two instanced of FF are visible
  with no way to differentiate between deb and SNAP.

  By default hyperlinks in non-browser apps open with Deb FF while FF app icon
opens Snap version.

  Kindly remove one of the two installations of FF to avoid unexpected
behaviour for users.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1945609] [NEW] openvpn don't switch to fallback

2021-09-30 Thread MAIRIEN Anthony
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS (5.11.0-34-generic #36~20.04.1-Ubuntu) without any
extra packages installed, the following event occured :

In the OpenVPN client config file, we have two servers (remote foo.bar
1194 udp, remote foo2.bar 1194 udp). We imported this config file in the
Network-Manager's GUI and then we started the OpenVPN client (again via
the GUI).

When connected (from an external network), we started a simple ping to
check the connectivity to the remote network. Then, we completely
disconnected the first remote server (foo.bar), and logically the VPN
client should have reconnected to the "foo2.bar" server, AKA the
fallback server.

But, after more than 10 minutes, the connection is still non-
reestablished (although the default value of the connect-timeout
parameter is 120s). The GUI was acting like the connection is still up,
although the remote VPN network was unreachable. We had to manually turn
off the VPN client on the GUI and turn on again to reconnect (it took a
very long time because it first tried to connect to the offline VPN
server).

If we launch the VPN client in command line, the fail-over works
perfectly. The command used in CLI is simply : `sudo openvpn
config.ovpn`

The version of the packages are the following:
network-manager/focal-updates,now 1.22.10-1ubuntu2.2 amd64
network-manager-openvpn-gnome/focal,now 1.8.12-1 amd64
network-manager-openvpn/focal,now 1.8.12-1 amd64
openvpn/focal-updates,now 2.4.7-1ubuntu2.20.04.3 amd64

Thank's in advance for lookin into this!

Kind regards,
Anthony Mairien

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1945592] [NEW] Viewing PDF doesn't use full screen width

2021-09-30 Thread Alistair Cunningham
Public bug reported:

In Thunderbird 91, clicking on a .pdf attachment to an email loads the
PDF file in a new tab, which is good. However, the view of the PDF file
only uses about 2/3rds of the screen width, and leaves a large empty
grey area on the right hand side of the screen. Zooming in on the
document only zooms within the existing area, and does not expand to the
grey area.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1945587] [NEW] Double click on calendar item views rather than edits

2021-09-30 Thread Alistair Cunningham
Public bug reported:

Not sure if this is a bug, or new intended behaviour. In Thunderbird 78,
double clicking on a calendar item showed its edit dialog. In
Thunderbird 91, double clicking on a calendar item shows a summary
dialog, and you then have to click on the edit button to edit it. Since
you almost always want to edit rather than view, this is less

Title:
  Double click on calendar item views rather than edits

Status in thunderbird package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Not sure if this is a bug, or new intended behaviour. In Thunderbird
  78, double clicking on a calendar item showed its edit dialog. In
  Thunderbird 91, double clicking on a calendar item shows a summary
  dialog, and you then have to click on the edit button to edit it.
  Since you almost always want to edit rather than view, this is less
  convenient. If this is an intended behaviour, it would be good to have
  a configuration setting to disable it, and go directly to the edit
  dialog.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1942951] Re: devhelp doesn't display any help pages

2021-09-30 Thread Bug Watch Updater
** Changed in: webkit2gtk (Debian)
   Status: New => Incomplete

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop
Packages, which is subscribed to webkit2gtk in Ubuntu.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1942951

Title:
  devhelp doesn't display any help pages

Status in webkit2gtk package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in webkit2gtk package in Debian:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  webkit2gtk 2.33.3-1ubuntu3

  Test Case
  -
  1. sudo apt install devhelp libgtk-3-doc
  2. Open devhelp and click the GTK+ 3 Reference Manual link in the left
sidebar.
  3. The manual should show in the main view area.

  What Happens

  The main viewing area stays blank.

  Other Info
  --
  I manually installed webkit2gtk from Ubuntu 21.04 and Devhelp worked normally
again.
  The Epiphany web browser works fine with the broken webkit2gtk version.
  Ubuntu's packaging diverges slightly from Debian's. The changelog mentions
some dependency changes and disabling lto.
  I haven't done any further investigation.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1697122]

2021-09-30 Thread Pier Paolo
(In reply to Mathew Hodson from comment #25)

Confirmed. Need to set environment variable in Debian 11 with Firefox
78.12.0esr (64 bit).

Title:
  Package Firefox with MOZ_USE_XINPUT2=1 in environment to enable pixel
  scrolling with touchpad and touch gestures

Status in Mozilla Firefox:
  Confirmed
Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Ubuntu version:  Kubuntu 17.04
  Firefox version: 53.0.3+build1-0ubuntu0.17.04.2

  In Firefox, two-finger scroll gestures on a touchpad are interpreted
  as scroll wheel rotations, and the content scrolls three lines at a
  time. This is inappropriate behavior for touchpad scrolling; it should
  scroll pixel-by-pixel.

  Firefox already has the ability to do this, you just need to turn it
  on by running the program with MOZ_USE_XINPUT2=1 in the environment:
  for example, by running `MOZ_USE_XINPUT2=1 firefox`, or adding it to
  /etc/environment or something like that.

  Turning on this behavior yields a large usability improvement for
  laptop users. Therefore, I am proposing that MOZ_USE_XINPUT2=1 be
  permanently added to the packaging such that it's always present when
  Firefox runs. This is what Fedora does, and it results in a much
  improved experience for the laptop user.

Bug description:
  Using Ubuntu 21.04 (Hirsute) that starts in Wayland, by default.
  Thunderbird version: 78.11.0 with "gnome-support" package.
  Same problem in safe mode.
  Description:
  By default in this context, TB is a Wayland task.
  When opening a compose windows (or reply or transfer), sending mail
apparently close the windows, but gnome shell continue to show multiple
"points", as if multiple windows are still active.
  And after closing TB, it seems maintained in the same state, so it becomes
impossible to relaunch it from the desk. But task manager of "looking glass"
does not show it and it is possible to launch from terminal.
  Provisional solution:
  Modify .desktop file to launch with --display=:0 option, that force to use
XWayland interface, as shown by xlsclients (for example).
  But it is actually a bug under Wayland context, that also badly interfer with
many add-ons or extensions.
