[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1730201] Re: Show Nautilus bookmarks when right clicking on its dock icon

2023-02-26 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Invalid for ubuntu-dock because it works -- just so long as nautilus is
already running or you have 'nautilus --gapplication-service' running in
the background. So the main issue is that's no longer running by
default. I think it's a matter of opinion as to whether it's worth
launching just for the bookmarks or better to not have another process
occupying memory just for that.

Bug description:
  Hi…

Don't know if it's related to nautilus or dock.

Bookmarks - default ones like documents, videos, pictures… or manually
added ones through ctrl+d - are not displayed on right click on
  nautilus icon.

Only [ new window | remove from favorites | details ] appear.

( I'm a little dubious about the details usefulness here, too )

I expected all the bookmarks to be displayed on right click, like in
  Unity.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make

help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:

Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

What player/app are you using?

Please also try 'mpv'.

Title:
very high power draw from battery when watching videos

Status in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
when I watch a video in fullscreen, my laptop can draw as many as 25w.
For comparaison, on windows 11, a similar video will take only 8w from
the battery. obviously, the cpu temps and fan speed are much higher on
ubuntu tan on windows. Also, this might be unrelated, but when I plug
in or unplug the charger on my laptop, the power draw reported takes
time to climb up to the actual power draw/ charge rate ( up to 45
sec). In this vase, my laptop can think that it still has a couple of
days left worth of battery life left

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1977748] Re: Build Cairo with OpenGL support

2023-02-26 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I'm going to say no to this because:

 * Well-written code doesn't need Cairo to use GL to get the best
performance. Just don't re-render Cairo parts on important code paths.

 * Even if there were no known bugs in the GL backend, it would still
pose an unnecessary risk to the stability of mature components like GTK
and GNOME Shell. Probably more.

 * You can already build Cairo with OpenGL yourself and use that custom
build in your project.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1977748] Re: Build Cairo with OpenGL support

2023-02-26 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I remember talking to the GNOME developers about this, I think it was in
person at a conference last year. From what I recall, they said the
OpenGL backend had issues so there was good reason to leave it disabled.
I don't know if it's the same reason as in comment #5, but it probably
doesn't matter because:

 * Apps using Cairo efficiently that keep the Cairo results in an OpenGL
texture most of the time already work just fine. It's only the render
and upload (glTexImage2D) stages that would be slower with the current
CPU rendering but a well-written app will never bottleneck on that.
Examples: GTK and GNOME Shell.

 * If you really need the OpenGL backend for some reason then you can
build Cairo within your project and embed it:

   ./configure --enable-gl=yes --enable-static=yes

Right click on any file or folder.

Often shows a visually and functionally broken menu,

And those items can't be triggered.

  Screenshot attached.

unable to correctly capture mouse cursor, see

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2000275] Re: evince neither prints nor previews postscript documents

2023-02-26 Thread Ubfan
Ubuntu release 22.04.2 seems to have fixed the problem, although the

Status in evince package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
evince does successfully display a ps document, but when attempting to print
or
preview (whether to a file or printer) fails, with either a blank page (for
print) or blank window (for preview) produced, and some error output at the
terminal. Any ps document (text or graphical) has this failure. A PDF document
succeeds in the print preview, but with the same warning (see below examples)
so the warning may not be important.
qpdfviewer does successfully print the ps file, so not a hardware issue.

Screen display works for ps files, but a
warning and error are produced when attempting to print or preview
a postscript file (see below). The same warning is produced for print/preview
of a pdf file, but the preview succeeds. A comment was added to launchpad bug

crash, the display of the file is not affected when the print/preview fails.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2008655] [NEW] Hissing and high-pitched noises occasionally playing through headphones

2023-02-26 Thread Fadil Nohur
Public bug reported:

Hissing and high-pitched noises occasionally play through headphones. It
happens as a one-off but happens frequently. Sometimes it happens whilst
playing audio, but sometimes just after audio plays. It's difficult to
reliably reproduce but it happens often.

There is a hack for it which is to go to /etc/pulse/default.pa , comment
out "load-module module-suspend-on-idle" , and then restart pulseaudio .
With this hack I no longer get any hissing or high-pitched noises.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1930914] Re: ubuntu-minimal depends on ubuntu-advantage-tools

2023-02-26 Thread Bartłomiej Żogała
Doesn't really matter as package is installed both ways, only that all
dependencies need to be resolved later on. I've tried your method and it
suggest to remove ubuntu-desktop-minimal and software-properties-gtk -
which is not a solution here. IMHO the software-properties need also
seperated version or just removal of the dependency if python code
handles this properly. This is due to UbuntuPro tab in this window:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1930914] Re: ubuntu-minimal depends on ubuntu-advantage-tools

2023-02-26 Thread Bartłomiej Żogała
@sky-lake @vi0oss unfortunately
after doing
sudo dpkg -P --force-depends ubuntu-advantage-tools
sudo rm -rf /etc/ubuntu-advantage
and dpkg -i fake-ubuntu-advantage-tools.deb
on recent version I'm getting version specific dependency when doing apt-get
upgrade:
 software-properties-gtk : Requires: ubuntu-advantage-tools (>= 27.11~)
any clues ?
