[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2011313] Re: gnome-control-center crashes after launch

2023-03-11 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Btw, you can run this terminal command:

gsettings reset org.gnome.ControlCenter last-panel

and then you should be able to successfully open Settings. But avoid
"Users" for now.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2011321] [NEW] random windows launching with wrong title bar settings

2023-03-11 Thread Jonathan Kamens
Public bug reported:

With recent gnome-shell in Lunar, some of my windows, seemingly at
random, are launching with weird title bars that don't reflect the title
bar settings I have configured.

E.g., the font in the title bar is not the same as for other windows,
and the buttons on the right when I have them configured via the Tweaks
apps to be on the left.

Logging out and logging back in seems to clear up the issue temporarily.

Again, this isn't happening with all windows even within the same
session. Truly bizarre.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2011317] Re: gnome-shell spontaneously logging me out when screen locked, laptop lid closed

2023-03-11 Thread Jonathan Kamens
So far this is only happening on one of the three machines on which I
run current Lunar, and all three of the machines have different hardware
profiles, so I'm wondering if perhaps this isn't actually a gnome-shell
issue but rather a hardware issue. I've noticed that the machine on
which this problem has been happening has had some bizarre screen
flickering recently, so maybe there's a graphics hardware issue that is
causing the Wayland server to crash or something?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2009902] Re: Windows do not open on screen or with long delay.

2023-03-11 Thread Nathaniel Warburton
UPDATE: disabling ubuntu-dock seems to have resolved things. Initially
it was about 50/50 whether I could open or see windows properly until I
rebooted. I've now done 3-4 reboots and it's worked every time.

  Windows do not open on screen or with long delay.

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  On login, clicking on 2nd hard drive icon and/or Files (nautilus)
  there is a long delay in anything opening. Sometimes I can open a
  Terminal, sometimes I can't. When application windows do open
  promptly, they are often "off-screen" visible from the Activities
  overview, but not on the workspace itself when "zoomed in" after
  clicking on one of the windows.

  This is happening on Lunar Lobster. Upgraded from a fresh install of
  Kinetic Kudu with a fresh ISO downloaded today 9 March, 2023.

  I ran:

  sudo apt install --reinstall gnome-shell ubuntu-desktop gdm3

  Reinstall completed successfully but problems persisted after a cold
  boot.

  Interface has started behaving again for now, but this has happened
  through multiple cold boots (reboot menu not reliably responsive
  either).

  **Expected Behavior:**

  Click on application shortcut on the panel, application window opens
  in active workspace.

  **What Happened Instead:**

  Clicked on app icon, spinning wheel or no response at all. Window
  sometimes opens but is only visible through Activities overview.
  Clicking on window in this view "zooms back in" and hides the window
  again.

  * Impact

  The gnome-online-accounts sometime crash after resuming from suspend

  * Test case

  Install the librest update, restart your system and verify that
  configured online accounts keep working. Taking a Google account
  example, calendar events should show in gnome-calendar and the top
  panel widget, evolution should list your email account and nautilus
  should be able to browse your gdrive folder.

  We should also confirm that error reports stop with the library update

  * Regression potential

  The patch makes the code better handle an empty payload. The librest
  rdepends in the archive are gnome-initial-setup/gnome-online-

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2009902] Re: Windows do not open on screen or with long delay.

2023-03-11 Thread Nathaniel Warburton
Hello Daniel,

1. Thanks for following up. I ran the command you specified which
generated the last four (4) responses automatically.

2. I don't know for certain that the stack trace and core dump are
related (apologies this is my first bug on Launchpad). I clicked to send
report, and made the results public in case that helped.

3. I will attempt disabling ubuntu-dock and see if that changes
anything.

Thanks!

Nathaniel

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2009902] ShellJournal.txt

Title:
  Windows do not open on screen or with long delay.

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

  Clicking on window in this view "zooms back in" and hides the window
  again.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2011313] [NEW] Ubuntu-Settings crashes after launch

2023-03-11 Thread Mark Smith
Public bug reported:

I had successfully opened settings and used it to change some of the desktop
options (size of the docker icons, etc.).
Then I clicked on "Users" and ubuntu-settings crashed.
Since then, I am unable to open ubuntu-settings - it will open and flash up on
the screen before crashing.
This has continued even after restarting the machine a few times.

  [ Workaround ]

  Add to /etc/environment (in Ubuntu 22.04):

MUTTER_DEBUG_ENABLE_ATOMIC_KMS=0

  or in Ubuntu 22.10 and later:

MUTTER_DEBUG_FORCE_KMS_MODE=simple

  and then reboot.

  [ Original report ]

  (initially reported as a comment on bug #1965085, and split into a
  separate bug report)

  After I lock my screen and let it blank, moving the mouse or pressing
  any key on the keyboard won't wake it up. The only reliable workaround
  I've found is to press Ctrl+Alt+F1.

  That's on a fully up-to-date jammy, my hardware is an Intel NUC with a
  single Samsung monitor connected with a standard HDMI cable. This is a
  regression that started happening yesterday (2022-04-05) if I can
  remember correctly (I do apply pending updates at least once daily).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2011309] [NEW] [HDA-Intel - HD-Audio Generic, playback] Pulseaudio fails to detect card- also hdaudio fails to load on boot, codecs not found, no sound from HDMI sources. also

2023-03-11 Thread Daniel R. Widders
Public bug reported:

Main issue is that HDMI sound does not work or load at all, it is not
even an option in the 'Sound Settings' in GUI when it was working fine
before.

This started around March 3-4, 2023 per my syslog.
Also on boot, 'hdaudio' fails and says no codecs found.

And also I tried using Bluetooth devices but instead of connecting to
Bluetooth they started a connect/disconnect loop which meant as far as I
could tell Bluetooth was trying to connect but not succeeding when it
had before.

I have seen the same bug pretty consistently. After upgrading
(https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/librest/0.9.1-2ubuntu1) it seems to be
gone.
I will report if it shows up again

Bug description:
  * Impact

  The gnome-online-accounts sometime crash after resuming from suspend

  * Test case

  * Regression potential

  The patch makes the code better handle an empty payload. The librest
  rdepends in the archive are gnome-initial-setup/gnome-online-
  accounts/gnome-maps so we should verify that those keep working as
  expected.

Title:
  [SRU] libreoffice 7.4.6 for kinetic

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in libreoffice source package in Kinetic:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * LibreOffice 7.4.6 is in its sixth bugfix release of the 7.4 line:
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan/7.4#7.4.6_release

   * Version 7.4.4 is currently released in kinetic. For a list of fixed bugs
compared to 7.4.5 see the list of bugs fixed in the release candidates of 7.4.6
(that's a total of 74 bugs):
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/7.4.6/RC1#List_of_fixed_bugs
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/7.4.6/RC2#List_of_fixed_bugs
   * 7.4.5 was an intermediate hotfix release with one bug fix which got
cherry-picked as 1:7.4.4-0ubuntu0.22.10.2

   * Given the nature of the project, the complexity of the codebase and
  the high level of quality assurance upstream, it is preferable to SRU
  a minor release rather than cherry-pick selected bug fixes.

  [Testing]

   * Upstream testing. Bugs fixed upstream typically include
  unit/regression tests, and the release itself is extensively exercised
  (both in an automated manner and manually).

    * A recent set of upstream's automated jenkins testing can be found here:
  https://ci.libreoffice.org/job/gerrit_74/1717/

    * More information about the upstream QA testing can be found here:
  * Automated tests
    https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Automated_Tests
  * Automated UI tests
    https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Development/UITests
  * Regression tests
    https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Regression_Tests
  * Feature tests
    https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Feature_Tests

   * Launchpad testing. The libreoffice packages include autopkgtests that were
run and verified as passing.
  * [amd64]
https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-kinetic-ricotz-ppa/kinetic/amd64/libr/libreoffice/20230308_174140_556be@/log.gz
  * [arm64]
https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-kinetic-ricotz-ppa/kinetic/arm64/libr/libreoffice/20230308_194429_0c8b8@/log.gz
  * [armhf]
https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-kinetic-ricotz-ppa/kinetic/armhf/libr/libreoffice/20230308_202215_690b5@/log.gz
  * [ppc64el]
https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-kinetic-ricotz-ppa/kinetic/ppc64el/libr/libreoffice/20230308_174403_74fe7@/log.gz
  * [s390x]
https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-kinetic-ricotz-ppa/kinetic/s390x/libr/libreoffice/20230308_200234_9c534@/log.gz
   * General smoke testing of all the applications in the office suite were
carried out by going through the manual testplan as documented by:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Process/Merges/TestPlans/libreoffice

  [Regression Potential]

   * A minor release with a total of 74 bug fixes always carries the
  potential for introducing regressions, even though it is a bugfix-only
  release, meaning that no new features were added, and no existing
  features were removed.

   * A combination of autopkgtests and careful smoke testing as
  described above should provide reasonable confidence that no
  regressions sneaked in.
