External monitor's screen is very laggy in external monitor mode only. 2. External monitor's screen sometimes (~50%) will be blak in join display mode. [Steps to reproduce] 1. Boot in OS 2. Plug in the external monitor in HDMI port 3. Find the cursor moving in external monitor is laggy [Additional information] Feedback from NV: An NVIDIA driver built with the features needed to get rid of the laggy monitor problem causes Xorg 1.21.1.3 to crash. There's a patch for Xorg to fix the crash (https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/-/issues/1275) and it was first included in the 1.21.1.4 release. Since the older X servers crash, NVIDIA deliberately does a version check in the driver and enables these features for Xorg servers that are known to work, i.e. 1.21.1.4 or higher. This unfortunately prevents backporting the fix to 1.21.1.3. Engineering has chosen this approach since a crash is worse than the low FPS lag and the user might lose work merely by plugging/unplugging displays. If it was about a performance degradation, slight corruption, or something non-fatal, we wouldn't need to check Xorg version To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/oem-priority/+bug/2009767/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2009902] Re: Windows do not open on screen or with long delay.
Comment #10 is incorrect. The robots malfunctioned. ** Changed in: gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2009902 Title: Windows do not open on screen or with long delay. Status in gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: On login, clicking on 2nd hard drive icon and/or Files (nautilus) there is a long delay in anything opening. Sometimes I can open a Terminal, sometimes I can't. When application windows do open promptly, they are often "off-screen" visible from the Activities overview, but not on the workspace itself when "zoomed in" after clicking on one of the windows. This is happening on Lunar Lobster. Upgraded from a fresh install of Kinetic Kudu with a fresh ISO downloaded today 9 March, 2023. I ran: sudo apt install --reinstall gnome-shell ubuntu-desktop gdm3 Reinstall completed successfully but problems persisted after a cold boot. Interface has started behaving again for now, but this has happened through multiple cold boots (reboot menu not reliably responsive either). **Expected Behavior:** Click on application shortcut on the panel, application window opens in active workspace. **What Happened Instead:** Clicked on app icon, spinning wheel or no response at all. Window sometimes opens but is only visible through Activities overview. Clicking on window in this view "zooms back in" and hides the window again. **Release and Package Info** No LSB modules are available. As attempts to fix the problem, I have tried the following separately, with no avail: - Installing some Ubuntu OEM version of the 5.17 kernel - Updating to the v2.2 firmware from Sound Open Firmware Project (thesofproject on github), reverted afterwards I found exactly the same problem reported in the Fedora community: https://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?328627-HP-Elitebook-840-G8-Tiger-Lake-audio-only-produces-popping-sound=1860086 As the pre-installed Windows has been destroyed, no further test on Windows has been done. Since USB headphone and internal microphone work, I think that there is no problem on the Intel Tiger Lake-LP controller and its driver. The bug probably lies elsewhere, like in the handling of ALC245 on this new laptop model. Thank you very much for your time and effort in advance. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1969315] Re: text in torrent info tabs change after opening it to gibberish
As a temporary workaround I've installed packages "transmission- common_4.0.1-1" and "transmission-gtk_4.0.1-1" from Debian sid (unstable) and both works flawlessly in Ubuntu 22.10 so this bug is gone using these packages. I hope these packages will be picked for Ubuntu 23.04 publish. Note: the Debian package "transmission-gtk_4.0.1-1" have a broken dependence in Ubuntu 22.10. It requires "libevent-2.1-7 (>= 2.1.8-stable)" but in Ubuntu 22.10 the package is named "libevent-2.1-7a". It's not a problem because "transmission-gtk_4.0.1-1" is installed marked as a broken package, but it works flawlessly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to transmission in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1969315 Title: text in torrent info tabs change after opening it to gibberish Status in transmission package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: on transmission-gtk after opening the torrent's properties panel, the text at first it's showing ok, buy on mouse hover it changes to random text worked fine on 21.10 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 22.04 Package: transmission-gtk 3.00-2ubuntu2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.15.0-25.25-generic 5.15.30 Uname: Linux 5.15.0-25-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_modeset nvidia ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu82 Architecture: amd64 CasperMD5CheckResult: unknown CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Sun Apr 17 19:28:03 2022 SourcePackage: transmission UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to jammy on 2022-03-26 (22 days ago) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/transmission/+bug/1969315/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2011611] [NEW] [FFe] Include Tiling Assistant in the default install
Public bug reported: We want to add better support for tiling in the ubuntu desktop, while we're looking forward to implement it in mutter natively, at the current state the best option we have is that of using an extension. Tiling assistant is a well upstream-supported extension that is already in ubuntu universe (while MIR in progress at #2007710) and that provides more tiling features and an easier way to manage tiles. We propose to keep the tiling assistant extension disabled by default, but available for being enabled (and tuned) from gnome-control-center. In particular the extension allows to: - Do quarter-tiling of windows - Dispose tiles side-to-side and top-bottom - Select window to be tiled in empty slots - Organize tiles in windows groups that override focus behavior ** Affects: gnome-shell-extension-tiling-assistant (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell-extension-tiling-assistant in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2011611 Title: [FFe] Include Tiling Assistant in the default install Status in gnome-shell-extension-tiling-assistant package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: We want to add better support for tiling in the ubuntu desktop, while we're looking forward to implement it in mutter natively, at the current state the best option we have is that of using an extension. ** Tags added: focal jammy kinetic lunar -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1735002 Title: Allow configuring Wi-Fi MAC Randomization feature from GUI Status in gnome-control-center: Confirmed Status in NetworkManager: Confirmed Status in gnome-control-center package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Recent versions of NetworkManager have a feature enabled by default to use a random MAC address when scanning for available Wi-Fi networks for privacy. My understanding is that the spoofed MAC address is not used when actually connecting to a network. This feature was disabled in Ubuntu 17.10 because it broke scanning with some Wi-Fi drivers. My understanding is that there is a bug in some drivers when attempting to change the MAC address. See LP: #1681513. The bug might not be as big of an issue with the latest version of NetworkManager because 1) There are helpful commits like this (it was not backported to 17.04): https://cgit.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/commit/?id=46d53e1 2) It is also possible now to selectively disable Wi-Fi MAC Randomization for specific drivers. https://cgit.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/commit/?id=b869d9 However, I'm really hesitant to re-enable this feature as long as A) we don't know for sure which drivers are affected, B) and more importantly, there is no GUI way to turn the feature on or off. Asking users to edit config files isn't very nice. The MAC Address Randomization feature is really nice (Windows 10 has a similar feature) but I think we need a GUI on/off switch in Settings > Wi-Fi or Settings > Privacy. No. I said that you can do that if you are on an Ubuntu version > 20.04. Given the version you actually are on, instead I would suggest that you reinstall im-config: sudo apt-get install --reinstall im-config That's because the error message indicates that the installation of im- config is not complete. Maybe you tried to partly uninstall it. "E: Script for none not found at run_im." Well, "script for none" should be there: $ ls -1 /usr/share/im-config/data | grep none 78_none.conf 78_none.rc and a reinstall ought to restore those files. Or you can keep your return at the top of the file. That won't hurt if you don't use any input method. > The im-config package could not be removed without removing > gnome-control-center That's true, and the reason is that language-selector-gnome depends on im-config. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1720250] Re: im-config configuration ignored with gdm3
@Gunnar 1. I am still on Ubuntu 18.04.6. I know it sounds strange, but in the past 5-6 years I was so busy, that I was upgrading only the components I actually actively use in my research work, namely Wolfram Mathematica, python (with all scientific modules) etc. But yes, at some point I will need to switch. I never "upgrade", but always install from scratch and then spend several days tweaking the system to my liking. The reason I didn't upgrade to Ubuntu 20 is that I really disliked the idea of using snap. I am used to having a full control over every single instruction my CPUs are executing and snap somewhat distances the user of the system from what is happening inside, imo. 2. The im-config package could not be removed without removing gnome- control-center, which would be extremely inconvenient. So, no, it is still installed. I would gladly remove it, but because of this dependency I had to keep it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to im-config in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1720250 Title: im-config configuration ignored with gdm3 Status in gdm3 package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in im-config package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: After having logged in via gdm3, the IM related environment variables are always set like this: $ env | grep -E '_IM|XMOD' QT_IM_MODULE=ibus XMODIFIERS=@im=ibus Changing ~/.xinputrc to e.g. xim makes no difference, so gdm3 prevents all other IM frameworks but IBus from working.
