Just catching up on the comments here.. To answer the question of what is the user requirement, I believe the answer is "I'd like everything on my screen to look bigger/smaller". [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1616509] [NEW] notification with screen locked shows undesireable results on tablet
Public bug reported: running rc-proposed on m10 tablet, have security setup for passcode. The problem is whenever my screen is locked and I get a notification (i.e. new gmail message), the screen turns on and I see the OSK taking up half of the screen and the password field focus. This is really distracting and looks bad, as I'm not trying to login. Would be better to just show the notification with no osk. The pass-phrase requirement is from 8 to 63 characters. After reducing the pass- phrase to 14 (and sometimes 15) characters connectivity is restored. Attempting to connect to a Cisco 1702i (IOS 15.3-3.JC1) which has both 802.11 ac (wave 1) and 802.11n radios has similar problems: (a) it cannot "see" the 802.11ac radio at all (interface Dot11Radio0) and although it "sees" the 802.11n radio (interface Dot11Radio1) it cannot connect. The pass-phrase length requirement on both radios is 18 to 128 characters. In both cases the Cisco APs do not log any event. Prior to OTA 11 connectivity worked normally on OTA 10.1 OS: Ubuntu 15.04 (OTA-11) on BQ Aquaris E5 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/+bug/1593686/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Note, we've added a workaround in qtubuntu-camera (in silo 40) to make this problem better (no hang) but does not fix it completely. The following will occur: 1) try to record a video 2) don't press the trust prompt 3) let your phone go to sleep 4) wake it up and open camera 5) press on trust prompt (either decision) 6) now you'll have to press record button again as we detected the timeout and did not record the video 7) the videos after this will have no audio until you reboot regardless of prompt choice or settings change, as pulse is in a messed up state -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1487111 Title: camera app unresponsive if trusted prompt left for some time Status in Canonical System Image: Confirmed Status in camera-app package in Ubuntu: New Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: image95/arale (also on mako) i see this for both the audio trust prompt and the video trust prompt steps 1. launch camera 2. don't touch trust prompt - set phone down for 5 min 3. after time, select accept (alternately - select accept on camera, hit record and wait for audio prompt, step2) expected - app continues result - app is frozen, shell is still responsive, camera service spinning 50% cpu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/+bug/1487111/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

In order to prevent such behavior, we should modify NetworkManager to inhibit suspend via powerd's DBus interface when hotspot is active and one or more clients are connected to the hotspot. As a first pass, inhibiting suspend when hotspot is active would probably be sufficient. This could probably be implemented via a NM dispatcher script, which would run when the hotspot is activated. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Networking#hotspot-power: * Whenever at least one person is using your hotspot, the device should not sleep automatically. * The indicator icon should be different when anyone is connected than when no-one is. * If a hotspot is set up, there should be a “Hotspot” item in the “Ways to reduce battery use” list in “Power” settings. The other big problem here is that when I'm connected to wifi, I expect to have a 3G connection as well so things like MMS will work. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1413065] Re: [Call]The call interface sometimes disappears when making emergency call
** Description changed: This is the public version of the following bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/barajas/+bug/1393641 After debugging seems the issue is that the application is getting deactivated and then activated (via Qt.application.active) when making a call in greeter (emergency) mode. This is causing problems for the app as it pops pages when it gets deactivated and causes the bug sometimes. The underlying problem is that this signal should not be occuring when the app is clearly in the foreground. It doesn't happen when not in greeter mode. An easy way to test is to install telepathy-ofono deb which is attached and set a fake emergency number to allow you to dial a normal number in emergency mode to help test by running this command at the shell: mc-tool set ofono/ofono/account0 string:fakeEmergencyNumber=yourNumber Then adding console.log() to the applicationActive signal in dialer- app.qml will verify. When pressing the call button the app is deactivated then reactivated. + + Steps to reproduce: + 1) install attached telephathy-ofono deb + 2) run + mc-tool set ofono/ofono/account0 string:fakeEmergencyNumber=yourNumber + and then follow secondary instructions (if any) + 3) lock phone + 4) press emergency call button + 5) dial yourNumber which will be a fake emergency call + 6) press the call button + 7) sometimes you will see a blank Emergency Call page after you press the call button, and when it works you will see the live call page + 8) adding debug to dialer-app.qml will show the active=false then active=true behavior after performing step 6. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to unity-greeter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1413065 Title: [Call]The call interface sometimes disappears when making emergency call Status in the base for Ubuntu mobile products: New Status in Dialer app for Ubuntu Touch: New Status in dialer-app package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in unity-greeter package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in dialer-app package in Ubuntu RTM: New Bug description: This is the public version of the following bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/barajas/+bug/1393641 After debugging seems the issue is that the application is getting deactivated and then activated (via Qt.application.active) when making a call in greeter (emergency) mode. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1408396] [NEW] media-hub-server crash after recording videos, pulse using high CPU
Public bug reported: Using rtm image 184 on krillin I was testing recording videos with camera-app and noticed that at some point during the recording process that pulseaudio was using 40% CPU and that did not ever get smaller. Then upon closing the camera-app media- hub-server and camera-app crashes. The following is the stacktrace which looks like pulseaudio crashed. Steps to reproduce: - open camera-app and record a bunch of videos using both front and back cameras - run top -d1 during this and you'll see pulseaudio using a lot of cpu - move camera-app to the background and try to swipe it away and you'll see the crash apport-retrace --gdb _usr_bin_media-hub-server.32011.crash GNU gdb (Ubuntu 7.8-0ubuntu1) 7.8 Copyright (C) 2014 Free Software Foundation, Inc. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1407694] [NEW] Gmail webapp stops working and can't recover
Public bug reported: ubuntu-rtm image 184 on Krillin Was using the phone a lot during the break and experienced Gmail getting into a state where it would launch and have a white screen. You could not recover even after killing and restarting the app. This happened mulitple times. I believe the online account service possibly is getting killed by the OOM killer and trying to launch Gmail after this occurs does not work. If this is the case, we should a) try to not let account service be killed by oom killer and b) recover gracefully if the service is not running and still allow the app to be launced. Steps to reproduce: 1) setup online account for Google and Gmail 2) unplug the phone from USB 3) launch gmail webapp and a lot of other apps 4) kill gmail but leave other apps running 5) use the phone for a while and let it suspend for a while (5-10 minutes) 6) try and launch gmail and you get a blank white screen, see the log below. 7) kill and restart gmail with the same error The only way I could make it work again was to delete the online account or reboot webapp-container: unrecognized option '--store-session-cookies' webapp-container: unrecognized option '--accountProvider=google' webapp-container: unrecognized option '--webappUrlPatterns=https?://mail.google.*/*,https?://accounts.google.*/*,https?://accounts.google.co.*/*,https?://www.google.*/accounts/*,https?://www.google.com/calendar*' libust[28543/28580]: Error: Error opening shm /lttng-ust-wait-5-32011 (in get_wait_shm() at lttng-ust-comm.c:886) libust[28543/28579]: Error: Error opening shm /lttng-ust-wait-5 (in get_wait_shm() at lttng-ust-comm.c:886) libust[28543/28579]: Error: Error opening shm /lttng-ust-wait-5 (in get_wait_shm() at lttng-ust-comm.c:886) libust[28543/28580]: Error: Error opening shm /lttng-ust-wait-5-32011 (in get_wait_shm() at lttng-ust-comm.c:886) Invalid webapps installation Invalid webapps installation Ignoring empty or invalid webapp URL pattern: https?://accounts.google.co.*/* Using Oxide as the web engine backend Setting session cookie mode to persistent Empty path in webapps model search path update request QQmlExpression: Expression file:///usr/share/webbrowser-app/webcontainer/WebApp.qml:179:25 depends on non-NOTIFYable properties: unity::action::qml::ActionManager::globalContext Empty path in webapps model search path update request UbuntuWindow - regular geometry UbuntuWindow::handleSurfaceFocusChange(focused=true) UbuntuWindow::handleSurfaceResize(width=540, height=919) UbuntuClipboard - Got invalid serialized mime data. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1339016] Re: Initial sync of the calendar takes a prohibitive amount of time
We were able to improve the situation by limiting how far in the past to sync for calendar events. This was a combination of a new version of syncevolution, and a patch to it and sync-monitor to introduce a syncInterval configuration setting (defaults to 90 days) specifiying how many days in the past to go back when syncing. For my caledar, it used to take 20 minutes for initial sync. Now it takes 33 seconds! Will need testing by others but this seems to help greatly. ** No longer affects: evolution-data-server (Ubuntu) ** Also affects: sync-monitor (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: sync-monitor (Ubuntu RTM) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: syncevolution (Ubuntu RTM) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: sync-monitor (Ubuntu) Status: New = Fix Committed ** Changed in: sync-monitor (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Critical ** Changed in: syncevolution (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Fix Released ** Changed in: syncevolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Critical ** Changed in: syncevolution (Ubuntu RTM) Importance: Undecided = Critical ** Changed in: sync-monitor (Ubuntu RTM) Importance: Undecided = Critical ** Changed in: sync-monitor Status: Confirmed = Fix Committed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to evolution-data-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1339016 Title: Initial sync of the calendar takes a prohibitive amount of time Status in Sync monitor for Ubuntu Touch: Fix Committed Status in “sync-monitor” package in Ubuntu: Fix Committed Status in “syncevolution” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “sync-monitor” package in Ubuntu RTM: New Status in “syncevolution” package in Ubuntu RTM: New Bug description: Mako running 116 Initial sync of default google calendar ran continuously for 90 mins before I terminated it The ics file grew to 8MB I can see two major things from the log: - it syncs all past events (I would suggest starting with the current or previous month if necessary) - it adds recurring events repeatedly (is the query using the wrong API and receiving events by timeframe rather than as raw event data?) [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1384776] Re: Occasional hang in unity 8 dash on the phone
** Tags added: rtm14 ** Changed in: unity8 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = High ** Changed in: unity8 (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Michał Sawicz (saviq) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1384776 Title: Occasional hang in unity 8 dash on the phone Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in “unity8” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: The dash is sometimes hanging on the phone. See the attached backtrace. The issue is as follows: we are maintaining a client-side tree of all NetworkManager devices. When we see that a new device has been added, we query its properties in order to build our local proxy. Doing this means that we are making QtDBus calls from a signal handler. Due to a bug in QtDBus this is not safe. libdbus-1 has a recursive lock on its DBusConnection. When the signal arrives, the lock is acquired and the sginal handler is run. The signal handler can make DBus calls (which also require the lock) because the lock is recursive. QtDBus also has a lock that is always acquired before the libdbus-1 connection lock is acquired. Unfortuntaely, the QtDBus lock is not acquired in the case of the incoming call from DBus -- only the DBus lock is. If another thread tries to do an unrelated DBus call meanwhile, it will acquire the QtDBus lock first and then the DBus lock (which is held because of the signal that arrived). Once the signal handler gets to the point of wanting to make a DBus call (in order to query the properties of the just-added network device) it will attempt to acquire the QtDBus lock. This is a lock-inversion deadlock. There are at least three bugs here: 1) QtDBus should be fixed in order to avoid this sort of lock inversion problem. Even if we fix this one situation, it seems quite likely that issues like this will arise again. 2) QNetworkManager should avoid the issue in QtDBus until such a time as it is fixed. This could be done by dispatching to a worker thread on receipt of signals so that the queries are done in a fresh call stack (without the libdbus-1 lock held). 3) Apparently the only reason we are using NetworkManager at all is in order to know if we are on a 3G connection or not (in order to avoid too much data charges). This would be much easier to do if NetworkManager provided a property that we could watch directly instead of bringing up an entire tree of objects in order to answer a very simple question. To that end I've filed https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=739080 which we can hopefully get addressed relatively quickly. I consider 3) to be the real fix as far as we are concerned, but we should probably ensure that the Qt people know about 1) and 2). Either of those could function as a workaround for us in the meantime, but the idea that we are creating this complex object tree to answer a simple question is ridiculous, so we should really fix that directly. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1342123] Re: evolution-calendar-factory always running with high memory usage
To clarify, out of the box on krillin with no calendar sync even enabled, evolution-calendar-factory uses 32MB which is the 4th highest process in memory usage. This is with an empty database of no calendar events or alarms. I'm assuming evolution-calendar-factory gets loaded by indicator- datetime initially such that the indicator can show calendar events. If you have a large database of calendar entries (i.e. after you've done a google calendar sync), as Pat reported this process can grow to well over 100MB. It seems to have no upper bound, and since the evolution backend for calendar is simply a flat file of type .ics, e-c-f appears to load the entire file into memory. e-c-f really needs a sqlite backend or something such that it can manage it more efficiently. Someone needs to investigate what can be done in the short term reduce the memory usage if possible. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to evolution-data-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1342123 Title: evolution-calendar-factory always running with high memory usage Status in “evolution-data-server” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “indicator-datetime” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: At boot the process is using over 100MB on my mako (build 129) I sync'd a fairly large set of calendar events from google previously Does this process need to be running all the time? [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1339016] Re: Initial sync of the calendar takes a prohibitive amount of time
We use syncevolution, which communicates with Google on the remote side and evolution-data-server on the local side to store events. There is no API in syncevolution to limit the scope of events retrieved. We need to look into modifying it to do so, and to optimize it's operational time as it's ridiculously slow (this in part is likely due to evolution- calendar-factory using a flat file to store the calendar events). Renato has indicated there is a newer version of syncevolution which has recently been released that may improve the situation. The next step is to try this new version and see if it helps. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to evolution-data-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1339016 Title: Initial sync of the calendar takes a prohibitive amount of time Status in Sync monitor for Ubuntu Touch: New Status in “evolution-data-server” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “syncevolution” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Mako running 116 Initial sync of default google calendar ran continuously for 90 mins before I terminated it The ics file grew to 8MB I can see two major things from the log: - it syncs all past events (I would suggest starting with the current or previous month if necessary) - it adds recurring events repeatedly (is the query using the wrong API and receiving events by timeframe rather than as raw event data?) Set Caps Lock as input source change button 2. At System Settings - Universal Access - Typing turn on On Screen Keyboard 3. Reboot 4. Now the On Screen Keyboard is on screen and pressing Caps Lock in text input field (gedit, for example) quickly changes input source several times. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1359125] Re: Use a discreet notification when there is an active call
at minimum, we should never play the ringtone when on an active call, possibly just vibrate. The current behavior on build 210 on mako only plays ringtone and doesn't vibrate at all when on active call. Reversing this would be a step in the right direction. @rsalveti Regarding alarms and other notifications, is there a global way to not play the ringtones when on an active call and perform some other system wide action (like vibrate only or maybe vibrate and a small sound?) ** Also affects: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: dialer-app (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed ** Changed in: dialer-app (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = High ** Changed in: dialer-app (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Gustavo Pichorim Boiko (boiko) ** Changed in: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Ricardo Salveti (rsalveti) ** Changed in: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = High -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1359125 Title: ringtone played when on active call Status in “dialer-app” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “pulseaudio” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: build #199 When there is an incoming call during an active call, the notification uses the configured ringtone. Further details in Debian e-mail: http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/pkg-kde- talk/2014-March/001889.html For Ubuntu, transitional packages should be put in place for smooth distribution upgrades, since we're shipping with the old names in previous Ubuntus. An example of that is at http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~kubuntu-packagers/kubuntu-packaging/qtsystems-opensource-src/revision/31 - in other words: - Make the old package a transitional oldlibs package that depends on the new package - Add Breaks/Replaces to the new package for the old non-transitional packages (be careful about the version number specification) - Keep Multi-Arch: same and Architecture: any for the transitional package - Write QML module instead of QML plugin - Rename also the *.install files To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/accounts-qml-module/+bug/1342031/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1227769] Re: [mako] No audio in the headphones with a two pins jack unless plugged in after the call
** Also affects: android (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** No longer affects: touch-preview-images -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1227769 Title: [mako] No audio in the headphones with a two pins jack unless plugged in after the call Status in “android” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “pulseaudio” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: 1. connect a 2 pin 3.5mm headphones into your phone and make a call What happens: There is no sound in the headphones and the phone's earpiece works for the call. Now if you pull out the headphone jack and plug it in you can hear the sound in the headphones. On the end if we connect a 3 pin headphones (the one with a mic in it) things work pretty well and there is no need to reconnect the headphones. I have initially reported this for telephony service but I think its pulseaudio issue.
