[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1663411] Re: xorg hang
I didn't have a reliable way of reproducing exactly this scenario, so I can't definitively say whether or not it's still present (I'm currently running 17.10). I have experienced similar GUI hangs (but ssh still responds) in 17.10, but not specifically while watching an embedded youtube video in Chromium. (Most recently the symptom occurred while I was in a full-screen virt-manager window, watching a shared desktop presentation via Skype for Business in Windows. The Windows VM seemed to suffer no ill effect. Unfortunately, I did not bother to save the logs, etc, from that occasion.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1663411 Title: xorg hang Status in xserver-xorg-video-nouveau package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Watching YouTube video embedded in web page, via chromium. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1723250] [NEW] kworker blocked: nv50_disp_atomic_commit_work
Public bug reported: There's a moderate chance this is a duplicate of #1723245, but the lead- up to the hang was different: I noticed some visual artifacting (perhaps isolated to my Chromium window, but I don't remember for sure). I could still move the mouse, and tried closing the current tab. Shortly thereafter, the UI entirely stopped responding, but SSH was fine. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1703068] [NEW] Badly broken rendering of text views
Public bug reported: Applications utilizing gtk3 text views display terrible rendering artifacts on my system. A portion of the canvas immediately below the drawn text view gets redrawn (or perhaps more accurately *not* redrawn), and then text gets drawn over the top. Subsequent updates to the text view will just draw on top of the existing text. This is visible in (among other things) gtk3-demo (from gtk-3-examples), gnome-calculator, EiskaltDC++ Gtk3. A screenshot comparing gtk3-demo and gtk-demo (via gtk2.0-examples) is attached. It's a distinct possibility that the real issue is in the video driver or compiz or something, but this was my best guess for a starting point, since I've isolated the issue to [seemingly] gtk3 text views (and possibly also transparency overlay? the top right and bottom left of Overlay -> Decorative Overlay exhibits the problem, along with Transparency also in the Overlay section of gtk3-demo). Kernel: 4.10.0-26-generic xorg-server 2:1.19.3-1ubuntu1 OpenGL vendor string: Intel Open Source Technology Center OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Intel(R) Ivybridge Desktop OpenGL version string: 3.0 Mesa 17.0.3 Although I haven't tried a fresh install, I have confirmed the behavior persists in a guest session. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1698607] [NEW] "Mode" menu is out of place when launched from keyboard shortcut (unity-settings-daemon)
Public bug reported: As similarly reported in Bug #1615408 [1], the "Mode" menu for gnome- calculator appears out of place below the application title bar, however now it only manifests for me when the calculator is launched from the keyboard shortcut. I've seen some circumstances where the calculator is launched with a thick gnome3-style title bar with an integrated mode menu, but under normal circumstances, the calculator has a 'normal' title bar, and has the mode menu in the unity-integrated menu bar. My keyboard has a built-in "calculator" key, but this can be recreated by going to System Settings -> Keyboard -> Shortcuts -> modify the "Launch calculator" to something else (e.g. ctrl-alt-c). Press the shortcut; unity-settings-daemon spawns gnome-calculator with the improperly located Mode menu. I also experienced this issue in 16.10 (also with Intel graphics), as noted in a comment on another bug[1]. But, for what it's worth, I don't experience the issue anymore in 17.04. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1691486] Re: Mouse cursor jumps to top left corner on click+drag
I admit I don't fully understand how the "Coordinate Transformation Matrix" works (well, especially in the context of a mouse instead of a trackpad or something), but it appears that's the trigger for this issue. After I eliminated that modified Coordinate Transformation Matrix, the dragging/jump issue disappeared. (For anyone else who happens to have the same problem, I was able to solve the mouse hyper-sensitivity issue like this instead: xinput set-prop "Razer Razer DeathAdder" "libinput Accel Speed" "-0.3" xinput set-prop "Razer Razer DeathAdder" "libinput Accel Profile Enabled" 0, 1 Thanks to https://patrickmn.com/aside/lowering-gaming-mouse-sensitivity- in-ubuntu-9-10/ (updated) and http://mouseaccuracy.com/ for helping me decide on a comfortable value.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1691486 Title: Mouse cursor jumps to top left corner on click+drag Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Since the upgrade to 17.10, when I click and drag something (e.g. moving a file within a folder, or moving an email message within Thunderbird), the mouse pointer (and the dragged item) jumps to the top left corner of the screen. Here's an xinput --test log from an instance of clicking a file inside a folder and dragging it (moved the mouse slowly / just a few millimeters): motion a[0]=1326 a[1]=451 motion a[0]=1326 a[1]=451 motion a[0]=1327 a[1]=450 motion a[0]=1327 a[1]=449 motion a[1]=449 motion a[1]=449 motion a[1]=448 motion a[0]=1327 a[1]=448 motion a[1]=448 motion a[1]=447 motion a[0]=1327 a[1]=447 motion a[1]=447 motion a[0]=1328 a[1]=447 motion a[1]=446 motion a[0]=1328 motion a[1]=446 button press 1 motion a[0]=1328 motion a[0]=1328 motion a[0]=1328 motion a[0]=1328 a[1]=446 motion a[0]=1327 motion a[0]=1327 motion a[0]=1327 motion a[1]=446 motion a[0]=1327 motion a[0]=1327 motion a[0]=1326 motion a[0]=1326 motion a[1]=446 motion a[0]=1326 motion a[0]=1326 a[1]=445 motion a[0]=1326 motion a[0]=1325 motion a[0]=1325 motion a[1]=445 motion a[0]=1325 motion a[0]=1325 motion a[0]=1325 motion a[0]=1324 motion a[0]=1324 motion a[1]=445 motion a[0]=1324 motion a[0]=1324 motion a[0]=1324 motion a[1]=445 motion a[0]=1323 motion a[0]=1323 motion a[0]=1323 motion a[0]=1323 motion a[1]=445 motion a[0]=1322 motion a[0]=1322 motion a[0]=1322 motion a[0]=1322 motion a[0]=1322 motion a[0]=1321 motion a[1]=444 motion a[0]=1321 motion a[0]=1321 motion a[0]=1321 motion a[0]=1321 motion a[0]=1320 motion a[0]=1320 motion a[0]=1320 motion a[1]=444 motion a[0]=1320 motion a[0]=1320 motion a[0]=1319 motion a[1]=444 motion a[0]=1319 motion a[0]=1319 motion a[1]=444 motion a[0]=1319 motion a[0]=1319 motion a[1]=444 motion a[0]=1318 motion a[0]=1318 motion a[0]=1318 motion a[0]=1318 motion a[0]=1318 motion a[1]=443 motion a[0]=1317 motion a[0]=1317 motion a[0]=1317 a[1]=443 motion a[0]=1317 motion a[0]=1317 motion a[0]=1316 motion a[1]=443 motion a[0]=1316 motion a[0]=1316 motion a[0]=1316 motion a[1]=443 motion a[0]=1316 motion a[0]=1315 motion a[1]=443 motion a[0]=1315 motion a[0]=1315 motion a[0]=1315 a[1]=442 motion a[0]=1315 motion a[0]=1314 motion a[1]=442 motion a[0]=1314 motion a[0]=1314 motion a[0]=1314 a[1]=442 motion a[0]=261 motion a[0]=261 motion a[1]=87 motion a[0]=261 motion a[0]=261 motion a[0]=261 motion a[0]=260 motion a[0]=260 a[1]=87 motion a[1]=16 motion a[0]=51 motion a[0]=50 motion a[0]=50 motion a[0]=50 a[1]=16 motion a[0]=50 motion a[1]=16 motion a[0]=50 motion a[0]=49 motion a[0]=49 motion a[0]=49 motion a[1]=15 motion a[0]=49 motion a[0]=48 motion a[0]=48 motion a[0]=48 a[1]=15 motion a[1]=15 motion a[0]=48 motion a[0]=48 motion a[0]=47 motion a[1]=15 motion a[0]=47 motion a[0]=47 motion a[0]=47 motion a[1]=14 motion a[0]=47 motion a[0]=46 motion a[0]=46 motion a[1]=14 motion a[0]=46 button release 1 Here are my xinput settings for the device (which I *do* customize with a script run at login to avert hypersensitivity): $ xinput --list-props "Razer Razer DeathAdder" Device 'Razer Razer DeathAdder': Device Enabled (136): 1 Coordinate Transformation Matrix (138): 0.20, 0.00, 0.00, 0.00, 0.20, 0.00, 0.00, 0.00, 1.00 libinput Accel Speed (275): 0.50 libinput Accel Speed Default (276): 0.00 libinput Accel Profiles Available (277):1, 1 libinput Accel Profile Enabled (278): 1, 0 libinput Accel Profile Enabled Default (279): 1, 0 libinput Natural Scrolling Enabled (271): 0 libinput Natural Scrolling Enabled Default (272): 0 libinput Send Events Modes Available (256): 1, 0 libinput Send Events Mode Enabled (257):0, 0 libinput Send Events Mode Enabled Default (258):0, 0 libinput Left Handed Enabled (280): 0 libinput Left Handed Enabled Default (281): 0 libinput Scroll Methods Available (282):0, 0, 1 libinput Scroll Method Enabled (283): 0, 0, 0 libinput Scroll Method Enabled Default (284): 0, 0, 0 libinput Button Scrolling Button (285): 2 libinput Button Scrolling Button Default (286): 2 libinput Middle Emulation Enabled (287):0 libinput Middle Emulation Enabled Default (288):0 Device Node (259): "/dev/input/event5" Device Product ID (260):5426, 41 libinput Drag Lock Buttons (273): libinput Horizontal Scroll
Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1658185] Re: nouveau occasionally won't come back from DPMS suspend/off
I don't have VMware workstation, but on at least some occasions I've had a qemu/kvm VM running and possibly open in virt-manager (i.e. spice client) when this has occurred. Original Message From: Daniel BarrettSent: February 12, 2017 8:14:08 AM CST To: da...@thelittleman.net Subject: [Bug 1658185] Re: nouveau occasionally won't come back from DPMS suspend/off David, by any chance, are you running VMware Workstation when these problems happen? My computer has similar symptoms, and when I ssh in, VMware Workstation seems to be in an odd state. I can't suspend my VMs from the command line (in preparation for a reboot of the host). -- You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1658185 Title: nouveau occasionally won't come back from DPMS suspend/off To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/1658185/+subscriptions -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1658185 Title: nouveau occasionally won't come back from DPMS suspend/off Status in xserver-xorg-video-nouveau package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: On several occasions over the past few months, I've moved my mouse or pressed a key to wake my monitor from power saving, but the monitor never leaves power saving. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1638510] Re: deja-dup asks to install software not from a trusted source
I also tripped over this on a fresh 16.10 install. It should certainly be fixed (as well as https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=569116 , frankly), but as a workaround, manually installing duplicity (e.g. sudo apt-get install duplicity) works fine (no warnings about untrusted software) got past this symptom for me. Fake-edit: It looks like the expected Debian/Ubuntu way of solving this is to install deja-dup-backend-gvfs (which in turn depends on duplicity), thus supplying the requisite functionality for backing up to ssh, cifs, etc. Additionally, I don't know if it should be considered an additional [Debian/Ubuntu-specific] bug that the Déjà Dup preferences UI does enable the buttons when duplicity is installed, even though the act of clicking the button is supposed to install deja-dup-backend-gvfs, but I thought I should point that out. (debian/patches/install-pygi.patch sets this to install deja-dup-backend-gvfs instead of duplicity, but leaves the 'installed' check to look for duplicity.) ** Bug watch added: Red Hat Bugzilla #569116 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=569116 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to deja-dup in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1638510 Title: deja-dup asks to install software not from a trusted source Status in deja-dup package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: deja-dup opens a dialog "The software is not from a trusted source. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1615408] Re: Theming issues with yakkety gnome-calculator in Unity
I can confirm the menu behaves as expected when launching from Unity Dash. Launching gnome-calculator from a terminal or from the 'calculator' key on my keyboard exhibits the displaced menu symptom. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-calculator in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1615408 Title: Theming issues with yakkety gnome-calculator in Unity Status in gnome-calculator package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: There are some UI problems with yakkety's gnome-calculator. The Mode menu has an ugly light-colored border around it instead of being integrated into either the title bar (like gnome-calculator 3.18.3 in Ubuntu 16.04 LTS) or in to Unity's menu bar. These issues affect both gnome-calculator 1:3.20.1-0ubuntu1 and 1:3.21.90-0ubuntu1 but do not affect 1:3.18.3-0ubuntu1 on yakkety. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1615408] Re: Theming issues with yakkety gnome-calculator in Unity
I have these two problems on two machines as well (both after upgrading to 16.10). One machine exhibits *just* the two symptoms you describe, while another also has an odd bug making the numeric/formula entry text box transparent (see attached). Interestingly (/frustratingly, confusingly), the menu and transparency issues are not present when running a guest session on that machine, but the menu remains an issue in the guest session on the other machine. ** Attachment added: "20161021-2315-transparent-gnome-calculator.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-calculator/+bug/1615408/+attachment/4766645/+files/20161021-2315-transparent-gnome-calculator.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-calculator in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1615408 Title: Theming issues with yakkety gnome-calculator in Unity Status in gnome-calculator package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: There are some UI problems with yakkety's gnome-calculator. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1413458] [NEW] Intermittent Intel GPU Lockup: intel_crtc_wait_for_pending_flips
Public bug reported: Sometimes when playing a video (VLC) or browsing in chromium, the display stops updating except for the mouse pointer. Audio playback will continue. I can press ctrl-alt-F1 to get to another VT (though there is a delay of ~10 seconds before this occurs) and then switch back and things seem fine. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1291167] [NEW] Unity Launcher Icons Ignore Size Setting
Public bug reported: In past releases of Ubuntu / Unity, I could change the icon size of Unity launcher icons using ccsm 'unity' plugin or unity-tweak-tool. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1072637] Re: Pidgin does not appear in the notification area
In 12.10, this could be fixed by modifying the dconf setting for systray-whitelist, something like: gsettings set com.canonical.Unity.Panel systray-whitelist ['all'] In 13.04, they've broken this entirely: http://askubuntu.com/questions/253800/replacement-for-tray-icons-in-13-04 . I *think* Canonical's answer is that you shouldn't need anything more than the messaging indicator (looks like a sealed envelope) that turns blue if you have an unread email or IM or something else, but this is not a suitable replacement for the native Pidgin icon, which let me: 1. See at a glance that pidgin is running (though I acknowledge I can arguably visually scan the dock for a carat by its icon as well) 2. See at a glance whether I have an unread IM (not an unread message from any of the sources this icon aggregates, including email) 3. See at a glance whether I'm marked online or away (without clicking) 4. Easily set an away message with a single click from any screen/workspace/window I imagine other people had other additional use cases that aren't captured by the very rudimentary functionality of the messaging indicator as well. This is a regression, a loss of prior functionality. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pidgin in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1072637 Title: Pidgin does not appear in the notification area Status in “pidgin” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: After upgrading from Ubuntu 12.4 to 12.10 Pidgin no longer visible in notification area under the menu where the mail and gwibber is. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 967978] Re: missing apply system-wide in networkproxy
It's my understanding that in 12.04, you should no longer need to be a member of the admin or adm group, just sudo: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PrecisePangolin/TechnicalOverview/Beta2#Other . You should definitely expect a 'sudo' group. In general, when a bug status is 'fix released' I believe that means it's supposed to be fixed in a package currently available in some release. (I think it'd be more useful if they indicated specifically which package version it was supposed to be fixed in, but in any event, for this bug, as I noted, I believe it's actually fixed in 1:3.4.0-0ubuntu7 .) [Desktop-packages] [Bug 967978] Re: missing apply system-wide in networkproxy
This is still broken for me on a fresh install today, with gnome- control-center 1:3.4.0-0ubuntu5. I believe the problem may lie here: struct group *admin; struct group *sudo; admin = getgrnam (admin); if (admin == NULL) return FALSE; sudo = getgrnam (sudo); if (sudo == NULL) return FALSE; - Since the 'admin' group doesn't exist on my system, the function returns false immediately, short-circuiting the possibility of checking for the sudo group. The attached patch to cc-network-panel.c seems to have done the trick on my system, but presumably you'll have to merge that into the debian patch directory. ** Patch added: is_admin() should return true for sudo OR admin group https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/967978/+attachment/3043327/+files/cc-network-panel.c.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/967978 Title: missing apply system-wide in networkproxy Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: 1) 12.04 LTS 2) gnome-control-center version 3.3.90 3) Set the system-wide proxy settings to access the Internet 4) Cannot find the Apply system-wide (or similar) option. I have first noted that nautilus-image-manipulator does not show up when right-clicking on an image in Ubuntu 11.10, which it should (and does in Debian testing, where the package comes from). Looking at the release notes, significant changes have been made to Nautilus-Python in versions 0.7 and 1.0 that change the paths where the extensions are to be looked in. Ubuntu 11.10 is the first Ubuntu version to use Nautilus-Python 0.7, so I'm suspecting this affects all Nautilus extensions written in Python. I have opened 2 bug reports that are relevant to this issue [0] and [1]. I suspect the problem is related to 2 things: - The extensions are not looked for anymore in the familiar /usr/lib/nautilus/extensions-2.0/python - Importing the module `nautilus` is not valid anymore Please mark your project/package as affect by this bug so that we can keep track of the affected packages, and share the solution to fix this.
