Title:

Status in mpv package in Ubuntu:

Status in mutter package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Upstream: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/issues/20

  ---

  Reproducibility:

  100% reproducible

  steps to reproduce:

  1. $ mpv -fv anyvideo_long_enough.anyformat
  2. now please refrain from any mouse/keyboard activity, wait for the
screensaver to activate
  3. screensaver activates

  problem:

  the screensaver activates

  desired behaviour:

  the screensaver shouldn't activate

  long description:

  Hello,

the screen keeps locking while I watch video with mpv. Basically the
  screensaver gets activated.

  but according to man mpv:

     --heartbeat-cmd=

    WARNING:
This option is redundant with Lua scripting. Further, it
shouldn't be needed for disabling screensaver anyway, since mpv will call
xdg-screensaver
when using X11 backend. As a consequence this option has been
deprecated with no direct replacement.

  ...

That all said as the screen getting locked contradicts the manpage, I
consider this a bug. Thank you for the fix in advance.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2048569] Re: rightclick->open link doesn't work on file://full/path/filename.cpp:linenumber links

2024-01-08 Thread Imre Péntek
the issue that qt creator can't handle
file:///full/path/to/filename.cpp:linenumber on commandline (but supposed to)
is known: https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTCREATORBUG-30143
however qt creator handles /full/path/to/filename.cpp:linenumber on commandline
that's how I made a wrapper restoring the currently unavaliable (buggy)
functionality

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2046671] [NEW] "copy to..." hangs when copying from the trash bin

2023-12-17 Thread Imre Péntek
Public bug reported:

TLDR: if I right click "copy to..." a large file from trashbin to a
location the actual copy operation hangs the system until it finished
right when you accepted the copy location in the dialog box

verbose explanation:

steps to reproduce:
1. you need to have a large enough file for demonstration purposes. (like an
ubuntu image or something, it's better if the file isn't cached into the
memory, but it's still noticeable if it is)
1. gio trash or otherwise put this file into the trash bin
2. optionally you can reboot here to make sure the file isn't cached
3. open your trash bin
4. right click this file
5. select "copy to ..."
6. select (e.g.) /tmp (or any location with sufficient space) as the destination
7. please notice that the system is responsive before you click the green
select button in the upper right corner of your dialog box
8. click the green select button in the upper right corner of your dialog box
9. try to move the mouse

actual behaviour: please notice that even the mouse cursor is not
responding either. In "optimal" (worst) case the system seems to have
hanged for ~30 seconds (if the file is cached maybe only for 1-2
seconds)

expected behaviour: the system should be responsive.

it's not a real blocker, but scary, I was considering a hard reset.
Thank you for the fix in advance.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2044837] [NEW] unable to type to gnome-terminals when the tabs have been reorderad and the tab tooltip is present

2023-11-27 Thread Imre Péntek
Public bug reported:

Hello

prerequisites: up-to-date Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS

how to reproduce:
1. boot up and log in
2. press ctrl+alt+t to launch gnome terminal
3. fullscreen your gnome terminal
4. press ctrl+shift+t 6 times to have 7 tabs
5. bring your cursor to the tab of the rightmost (active) terminal, making the
tooltip appear
6. verify that you can still write to this terminal window while the tooltip is
visible
7. verify that the cursor inside your terminal is "solid" and not "hollow"
while the tooltip is visible
8. drag the tab of the rightmost terminal to the farthest left to make it
the leftmost
9. activate any tab you like

actual behaviour:
1. verify that the first letter you want to type doesn't get typed into the
terminal window while the tooltip is visible
2. verify that the cursor inside your terminal is "hollow" and not "solid"
while the tooltip is visible

expected behaviour:
1. I'd expect to still be able to type to this terminal window while the
tooltip is visible
2. I'd expect the cursor to be still "solid" as a visual clue, but this isn't
the main issue I'm having here.

please check the provided screen footage as well

  Fix Released
Status in mutter package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Upstream: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/issues/20

  ---

  Reproducibility:

  100% reproducible

  steps to reproduce:

  1. $ mpv -fv anyvideo_long_enough.anyformat
  2. now please refrain from any mouse/keyboard activity, wait for the
screensaver to activate
  3. screensaver activates

  problem:

  the screensaver activates

  desired behaviour:

  the screensaver shouldn't activate

  long description:

  Hello,

the screen keeps locking while I watch video with mpv. Basically the
  screensaver gets activated.

  but according to man mpv:

     --heartbeat-cmd=

    WARNING:
This option is redundant with Lua scripting. Further, it
shouldn't be needed for disabling screensaver anyway, since mpv will call
xdg-screensaver
when using X11 backend. As a consequence this option has been
deprecated with no direct replacement.

  ...

That all said as the screen getting locked contradicts the manpage, I
consider this a bug. Thank you for the fix in advance.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1804568] Re: [HP Spectre x360 Convertible 13] click position is flipped to cursor position when in tent mode

2020-03-09 Thread Imre Péntek
I figured out a workaround:

# apt remove iio-sensor-proxy --purge

then reboot, from that point your screen is always upside down, you need
to issue

$ xrandr --output eDP-1 --rotate inverted

after every login. Now the mouse points to the same location it clicks.
Hooray!

live installers are not affected, and installed 17.10 is not affected
neither, it just worked as I expected it to work. I know that for sure.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1804568] Re: click position is flipped to cursor position when in tent mode

2020-03-06 Thread Imre Péntek
I've just upgraded my 20.04 to check if the bug is still present, and it
is. Can I expect it to be fixed in the 20.04 release version? Thank you
in advance. (The gnome guys say it's already fixed, however I'm not sure
if they are right)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1740771] Re: the screen keeps locking while I watch video (missing support for Wayland's idle_inhibit_unstable_v1)

2020-02-11 Thread Imre Péntek
nonetheless I do not experience the core issue (screensaver activating,
and the unability to temporarily disable it while an mpv playback is
running)

alias mpv='mpv--no-audio-display --volume-max=132 --cache-secs=120
--alang=hu'

Bug description:

  Reproducibility:

  100% reproducible

  steps to reproduce:

  1. $ mpv -fv anyvideo_long_enough.anyformat
  2. now please refrain from any mouse/keyboard activity, wait for the
screensaver to activate
  3. screensaver activates

  problem:

  the screensaver activates

  desired behaviour:

  the screensaver shouldn't activate

  long description:

  Hello,

the screen keeps locking while I watch video with mpv. Basically the
  screensaver gets activated.

  but according to man mpv:

     --heartbeat-cmd=

    WARNING:
This option is redundant with Lua scripting. Further, it
shouldn't be needed for disabling screensaver anyway, since mpv will call
xdg-screensaver
when using X11 backend. As a consequence this option has been
deprecated with no direct replacement.

  ...

That all said as the screen getting locked contradicts the manpage, I
consider this a bug. Thank you for the fix in advance.

doesn't chane shape any more, and I can't click, ctrl+alt+f1 doesn't work also,
and can't power off the machine just by momentarily pressing the poker key, so
actually I need to press it for a longer time for a forced immediate poweroff.
