Title:
nautilus reports that an NTFS drive is read-only while it is writeable

Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
By default, Nautilus seems to mount an NTFS partition read-only when a
Windows system that has Fast Boot enabled accesses the partition, is
shut down and I boot back into Ubuntu. However, when I umount the
partition, run ntfsfix on it, and mount it again, Nautilus does not
let me move, paste or create folders and files, but surprisingly
allows me to delete anything. Such behavior is quite strange.

  More formally:
  Steps to reproduce the bug:
  - Boot Windows and shut it down with Fast Boot enabled (so the NTFS
partitions will be in an unsafe state)
  - Boot into Ubuntu
  - Open an NTFS partition with Nautilus (not the one that contains Windows).
As expected the partition is mounted read-only and menus don't allow the user
to modify anything (items disabled).
  - Unmount the partition (I used the umount command from a terminal)
  - Run "sudo ntfsfix /dev/sdXX"
  - Reopen the NTFS partition

  What was expected:
I should be able to create, move or delete files with Nautilus.

  What happened:
The menu items used to create, move or delete files are enabled but when I
actually try to create files or folders, or move any to the NTFS partition,
Nautilus complains about the destination being read-only. Deleting files or
moving them away from the partition works flawlessly. I can also modify
everything with other tools, like a text editor or terminal commands.
Restarting Nautilus (i.e. running "nautilus -q" then "nautilus") solves the
problem.

Bug description:
First time I use an USB drive since I updated to 12.04 and I found a
really annoying bug on Nautilus. Nautilus claims that the destination
drive is read-only when in fact it is not.

  How to reproduce:

  1. Connect a USB stick drive to your competer.
  2. The USB will appear in the desktop.
  3. Open two Nautilus windows one in your home folder, other in the USB stick
drive.
  4. Select any file from your home folder (small enough to fit the free space
in the USB drive)
  5. Drag the file and drop it in the USB drive window.

-- Nautilus will say that it cannot copy the file because the
  destination is read ony --

If you try the copy the same file with the terminal you will see that
the file is copied without problem, other programs like gedit or
LibreOffice can write in the usb stick drive just fine.

It is not a problem with the USB stick, as shown here:

But nautilus just dennies to copy the file claming that the
destination is read only, when it is not.

I tested it with two different USB sticks in two different computers
running Ubuntu 12.04 and the same result.

A nice feature of uTorrent (and possibly other clients) is that when a
.torrent file is added for which a duplicate is already being
downloaded, instead of rejecting the new file entirely it offers to
merge the lists of trackers. This is beneficial when the same data
has been shared to multiple trackers, each with its own set of peers.
Transmission currently throws the error message Couldn't add
duplicate torrent and rejects the new .torrent file.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 903608]

2011-12-15 Thread Ivan Kharlamov
Christopher, thanks for the info about workaround.

However, the bug is all platform and is not architecture dependent. As I
have written, the bug exists in Ubuntu 10.10 (x86_64) (default
packages), Ubuntu 11.04 (x86_64) (default packages), Ubuntu 11.04
(x86_64) (packages from LibreOffice stable PPA). Just now I have tested
the bug in LibreOffice 3.4.4 in virtualised Windows XP i386, and
(unsurprisingly) the bug exists here too. So I am changing it back to
all architectures and all platforms.

Best regards,
Ivan

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 903608]

2011-12-15 Thread Ivan Kharlamov
Little bit of history behind my bug report:
Few of my fellows have recently moved from Windows to Linux Mint(11.04). All of
them say that LibreOffice Writer is a decent editor and they didn't have
trouble adapting to it, but they are complaining about ONE SINGLE ANNOYANCE
which is described in this bug report. They have hundreds of footnotes in their
scientific papers and to change font style after every footnote seems insane.

I have already installed MS Word via Wine for one of them. The issue is
serious, it is pushing users away from your otherwise good product.
Please, fix it ASAP.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 903608] [NEW] LibreOffice text remains superscript if typed right after footnote

2011-12-13 Thread Ivan Kharlamov
Public bug reported:

If you are editing some files which were created in MS Word(it doesn't matter
if you re-save them in .odt or not), which have superscript position in
footnote character styles, text remains in superscript if inserted right after
footnote characters.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open an attached MS Word file
2. Type text right after footnote, see that it remains superscript

Current behavior:

Text style remains superscript if text is inserted right after footnote.

Expected behavior:

Text style must change to default.

Same issue was reported here by someone else:
http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=127834

I checked, and this bug certainly exists in default Libreoffice packages
of Mint Katya, Ubuntu Natty, Ubuntu Maverick(openoffice package).

2011-12-13 Thread Ivan Kharlamov
** Description changed:

If you are editing some files which were created in MS Word(it doesn't matter
if you re-save them in .odt or not), which have superscript position in
footnote character styles, text remains in superscript if inserted right after
  footnote characters.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Open an attached MS Word file
- 2. Type text right after footnote, see that it remains superscript
+ 2. Type text right after footnote, see that the text remains superscript.

  Current behavior:

- Text style remains superscript if text is inserted right after footnote.
+ Text style remains superscript if inserted right after footnote.

  Expected behavior:

- Text style must change to default.
+ Text style must change to default if inserted right after footnote.
