John, I followed a process similar to your instructions and successfully got one system up and functional (that is , logging in via GUI). Hello John, thanks for your response. I used the Terminal Mode update on two different DELL systems and encountered the problem on both systems. (Although, I don't recall using the update-manager -d option.) I might be forced to rollback as well. I really would like to see more importance place on this bug as it prevents any logins to the GUI under UNITY.
