Most likely yes, the same underlying issue.

Title:
Diacritical marks become visible only after changing view in Writer

Status in LibreOffice:
  Confirmed
Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
Arabic is sometimes written with diacritical vowel marks, which are
placed either above or below each letter of the word. Many
multipurpose fonts, which are not designed specifically for Arabic,
place some of these marks in the empty space between lines, outside of
the space reserved for line height. Writing Arabic in LibreOffice
Writer, these marks don't become visible while typing but only after
the page view has changed once.

See the attached series of screenshots, where the first screenshot has
been taken while typing. The first letter of the first word (reading
from right to left) should have two diacritical marks: ء and a
diagonal line above the letter: أَ. Only the lower half of the ء mark
is visible and the diagonal line not at all. The second letter of the
same word has a circle on top of it but only the lower half of it is
visible. Equally so for the third word of the sentence بِبَرْنَامِجِ,
where the last letter of the word has a diagonal line below, but it is
not visible at all. The second screenshot has been taken after I
scrolled the page down by a couple of screens and then scrolled back.
Now all the diacritics are shown as they should. In the third
screenshot I have deleted all of the text I typed but as you can see,
some parts of the diacritics are still visible above the line. If I
scroll down and back, they would disappear. If you want to test it
  yourself, the sentence I wrote reads "أَكْتُبُ هُنَا بِبَرْنَامِجِ
  لِيبَرْ أُفِيسْ".

As a user, I would expect the diacritics to be visible as soon as I
type them, and for them to be removed from the screen immediately when
  I delete the word.

That some glyphs or parts of glyph can be outside ascender/descender is
not unusual and is font specific. We shouldn’t be clipping based on line
height either way.

We are probably clipping the drawn area at line height instead of font’s
OS/2 table Win metrics, which is wrong IMO.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 127732]

2015-11-28 Thread Khaled Hosny
I attached two patches to bug 55977 that should handle searching RTL
text to a reasonable level, I wonder if this bug is more appropriate bug
for those two patches?

Searching Hebrew text works in reverse order

Status in Poppler:
  Confirmed
Status in poppler package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Hi,

There is problem searching Hebrew text in pdf files in evince. The
text I write in the find box is being found in reverse (perhaps in
visual order), and not in the right order of characters. The searching
works in Adobe Acrobat, so I'm guessing its not a problem in the pdf
  file itself.

  I'll attach an example pdf.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Open the attached pdf.
  2. Search for the word "ידיעון" (The letter "י" is the first in logical
order). The text is not found in the file.
  2. Search for the reversed word "ןועידי". (The letter "ן" is first in logical
order). The text is found in reverse in the file.

  Regards,
  Haggai Eran

I had a cursory look at Math while ago, and my impression is that it is
a hopeless case, it has to be rewritten from scratch (at least the math
renderer) if any sane math rendering is to be achieved.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1098963] [NEW] No Arabic l10n after updating to Firefox 18

2013-01-12 Thread Khaled Hosny
Public bug reported:

After updating to Firefox 18 the Arabic l10n is lost and English UI is
used instead. After checking I found it was caused by presence of empty
lines on top of the install.rdf file of the Arabic xpi. After manually
editing the file and removing the empty line, Arabic l10n is back again.

This have been reported upstream as well, but I think it deserves a fix in
Ubuntu until it is fixed there.

Title:
No Arabic l10n after updating to Firefox 18

Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
After updating to Firefox 18 the Arabic l10n is lost and English UI is
used instead. After checking I found it was caused by presence of
empty lines on top of the install.rdf file of the Arabic xpi. After
manually editing the file and removing the empty line, Arabic l10n is
  back again.

This have been reported upstream as well, but I think it deserves a fix in
Ubuntu until it is fixed there.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 371257]

2011-12-08 Thread Khaled Hosny
BTW, I fixed this before seeing this bugzilla bug, this issue have
annoyed me since the first time I first used OOo and I think there are
tens of bug reports about this in OOo bug tracker, all ignored.

The issue is GTK specific; in RTL mode GTK mirrors most of its widget,
but OOo/LO (who is directly using low level GTK APIs to draw the widgets
itself) does not take into account this mirroring which results in this
mismatch. The aforementioned commits fix all the three widget I've
noticed (combo box, combo box entry and spin button).
