[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1184451] Re: Ubuntu 13.10 random screen freeze while Normal OS activites
I can second what I mentioned elsewhere: This is *not* related to nouveau. Nor is it related to Compiz effects. I get these symptoms maybe 10-20 per day: Screen freezes. Music/sound continues to work. Can move mouse but not click. Keyboard unresponsive. After maybe 10s the system comes back up. The hangs are seemingly random. Maybe slightly more likely to happen when system is under load. But can happen at any given time. I tried under Xfce, Gnome, and Unity. All environments display the symptom. And frankly, it's driving me nuts. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 833610] Re: Impossible to find Banshee in Unity on 11.10 by typing Music
unity-lens-applications indexes the X-GNOME-Keywords field, so that seems like a possibility. Relatedly; I don't think it is a good idea to match in the Categories field via text searches (even though it's a trivial tweak in u-l-a). The Categories contains semantic data and not user content (and is not translated). We could potentially index the Name of the Menu tags in which we find the apps and attach that to the application. This will just be pushing the problem around though (Banshee is listed in the Multimedia Menu element). ** Changed in: unity-lens-applications Importance: Undecided = Medium ** Changed in: unity-lens-applications Status: New = Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to banshee in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/833610 Title: Impossible to find Banshee in Unity on 11.10 by typing Music Status in Ayatana Design: New Status in Banshee Music Player: Incomplete Status in Unity: Triaged Status in Unity Applications Lens: Triaged Status in “banshee” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: If you don't know the name of the application, you type music. 0 installed result. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 855414] Re: Unity dash becomes very slow/laggy when opening certain webpages (Launchpad) in Firefox
Seeing this as well. But the slowness of the dash reveal is disregarding whether I use mouse or keyboard to reveal the dash. ** Also affects: unity Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/855414 Title: Unity dash becomes very slow/laggy when opening certain webpages (Launchpad) in Firefox Status in Unity: Confirmed Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “nvidia-graphics-drivers” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Hello, the problem I'm reporting here is actually a weird interaction between the Nvidia propritary driver, Firefox and Unity, so I'm not sure if I should have reported it against Firefox or Nvidia driver instead. With the propritary Nvidia driver installed, the following happens: - When I visit certain webpages in Firefox, scrolling through them/interacting with them becomes very slow and laggy. The most prominent example are all kinds of paged from launchpad.net, e.g. https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bugs, or a random bug report page. This problem exists as long as I can remember (5 years?!), regardless of the version of Firefox or Nvidia driver. - In Oneiric, there is an additional interaction of this slowness/laginess with Unity: If one of those slow pages is opened in Firefox as currently selected tab (e.g. a bugreport) and I press 'Super' to reveal the dash and launcher, they take a rather long time to appear in contrast to the normal behaviour and the animation is also slow and laggy (if the dash has come up, it works fine and sleek as usual, so it's the process of the dash/launcher coming up that is slow). - Interestingly I don't experience this slowness of dash/launcher if I reveal them via mouse (hovering to the left screen side and clicking the dash button). The slowness of certain webpages only happens in Firefox (not in Chromium for example), and only if propritary Nvidia drivers are installed, with Nouveau drivers this slow pages phenomenon disappears in Firefox too. The additonal problem with the Dash in Oneric may seem small, but it can be rather annoying when trying to write bug reports for example. In Natty there is no such slowness when opening the dash via 'Super' and a slow web page is opened, so I reported it to Unity in hope that there may be an easy workaround. But the best thing of course would be if this slow pages issue would be fixed in Firefox and/or the Nvidia driver (the latter is of course beyond control of anyone not working for Nvidia :-( ). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 855414] Re: Unity dash becomes very slow/laggy when opening certain webpages (Launchpad) in Firefox
** Changed in: unity Status: New = Confirmed ** Tags added: nvidia -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/855414 Title: Unity dash becomes very slow/laggy when opening certain webpages (Launchpad) in Firefox Status in Unity: Confirmed Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “nvidia-graphics-drivers” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Hello, the problem I'm reporting here is actually a weird interaction between the Nvidia propritary driver, Firefox and Unity, so I'm not sure if I should have reported it against Firefox or Nvidia driver instead. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 827414] Re: gedit fails to start on first try, but does on the second
Can everyone confirm that this only happens when using alt-f2, and *not* when using the normal dash (ie. hit super and type 'gedit'). That's the behavior I am seeing here at least. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gedit in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/827414 Title: gedit fails to start on first try, but does on the second Status in “gedit” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in “gedit” source package in Oneiric: Confirmed Status in “unity” source package in Oneiric: Invalid Bug description: The gedit window fails to appear when I start gedit on my first try.
