[Desktop-packages] [Bug 666117] Re: empathy (AOL IM protocol) does not handle messages to the logged in user from the same user (from another host) correctly

2012-01-25 Thread Muhammad bilal shahid
not a empathy seems like haze's bug.movnig to there.

** Package changed: empathy (Ubuntu) = haze (Ubuntu)

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop
Packages, which is subscribed to empathy in Ubuntu.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/666117

Title:
empathy (AOL IM protocol) does not handle messages to the logged in
user from the same user (from another host) correctly

Status in “haze” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: empathy

Okay, bear with me, this one is complicated ;-)

Let your username be 'fubar' and let your two computers be called
  'host1' and 'host2'.

Login to AOL IM as fubar on host1. Add fubar to your buddy list.
Notice that you can open a chat window to fubar and type in messages,
which once sent, show up in both the sending and receiving portions of
the chat window (because, of course, you are sending a message to
  yourself).

Now also login to AIM as fubar on host2. This perfectly allowable,
and the AOL IM protocol says that, if a user is logged in more than
once, then messages sent to that user are sent to every non-away
client, or to all clients, if all are away.

  STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

Log in to fubar on both host1 and host2. Make sure that both hosts
are not away and will not go auto-away.

On host1, make sure that there are no chat windows open for fubar.

On host2, send a message to fubar.

  WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN:

On host1, a message should appear to fubar from fubar. (Note: this
works correctly, if a chat window for fubar was already open on host1
when the message came in. For this bug to be triggered, host1 cannot
have a chat window open for fubar.)

On host2, the message should appear in both the send and receive
  portions of the chat window.

Everything else on host1 and host2 should work normally.

  WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS:

  1. On host1, nothing visible happens. There is no indication of any
kind that a message has been received; no chat window pops up, and the
indicator and notification area icons do nothing. However, if you
check the chat transcript for fubar, you will see that the message has
  been silently received.

  2. Also on host1, from the moment the message was silently received,
until you either logout and log back in, or until you restart empathy,
you will not be able to summon a chat window for fubar. Looking in
the empathy debug messages, it seems that empathy never gets a reply
from telepathy-haze when it tries to open a chat window channel.

  (Nothing bad happens on host2.)

  CURRENT STATUS:

Right now, I am trying to collect minimal empathy and telepathy-haze
logs that show the series of events involved in receiving messages,
receiving messages that are also from the logged-in user, and opening
chat windows before and after triggering this bug. I suspect that the
actual problem is in telepathy-haze, but until I know more, I am
filing this under empathy, as that is the more user-visible project.

(Speculation: Now that I am thinking about it, I wonder if telepathy-
haze assumes that a message from the logged-in user must correspond to
an existing window channel, and gets into a funky state if this is not
  the case.)

  JUSTIFICATION FOR SETUP:

Some people may wonder why I would add myself to my own buddy list.
The answer is that I log in to the same account from work, home, and
abroad, so that I don't bother my friends with multiple accounts at
which to contact me. I also send messages to myself from one
location, so I know that I will see them on my desktop when I get to
the other location. I have used this as a quick and easy way to leave
myself to-dos for many years now. Also, it's a quick way of checking
whether your connection is hung, because sending a message from
yourself to yourself on the same client still has to pass through the
AOL servers, and will not do so, if your connection is hung.

  Cannot Send File

Status in “empathy” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Expectation:
User expected file transfer to be available for both parties, but instead,
only the older version of the program had file transfer available.

  What happened:
In Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric) the option to send file in empathy 3.2.0.1 is grey,
and missing entirely from the Contact menu while chatting.

In Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid) the option in empathy 2.30.3 to send file is
  available in the Contact menu.

When in Ubuntu 10.04 ( on version 2.30.3) sending a file from Empathy version
2.30.3 to 3.2.0.1
it says in 3.2.0.1 Incoming file transfer from User. User is sending a file
Do you want to accept it?

When clicking accept, in 3.2.0.1, the file transfers 100%, so file
transfer is supported from the older version to the newer version, but
  not from the newer version.

User is not sure how to get it to work from 3.2.0.1 to 2.30.3

  Summary:
File transfer From version 2.30.3 TO 3.2.0.1 = Operational, Successful
transfers
File transfer From version 3.2.0.1 = not available, greyed out file transfer
button, fail.

each time a message has been sent to me the contact name in the tray
notification. To clarify I have attached a
   screenshot of this.

Even after I restart empathy these remain and I can no longer open a chat

On a side note correlation between this and google chrome but chrome is
demostrating the same sort of crash

for a breif moment then the application

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 919871] Re: Empathy Keeps Crashing

2012-01-22 Thread Muhammad bilal shahid
no update from empathy..
are you getting this crash during adding account first time...
i guess you have having the same crash as the other people have,,as in this bug

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/908348

can you just follow these steps to see that the crash is occuring or not,,
see remove your all accounts even the people nearby account..
also remove the id and password of your accounts from keys and password
and restart than add the accounts again,,
see do the crash occur..and one thing 'you have to remove the id and password
from keys and password'
than this crash must happen.
do so and reply me.
thanks

Title:
linked contacts are unlinked when automatic linking is used

Status in “empathy” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
There is an issue I found with what seems to be the automatic linking of
similar contacts. In my Empathy I have four active accounts, which I will call:
  MSN A
  MSN B
  GTalk C
  Facebook D

I have one contact that is available in all four accounts (its my wife
:-D). Because she has the same email on both A and B, Empathy
automatically links her on accounts A and B. I then link my wife's
other accounts (on accounts C and D) to this metacontact. However I
noticed that every once in a while (apparently when network
connectivity is lost, or I restart the computer, or some other related
event) the metacontact is lost and only the contacts on A and B are
linked. Contacts on C and D are now separate. I noticed the same
behaviour with other contacts, but it only happens for contacts that
exist with the same ID in more than one account with the same
protocol. In another computer I have the same behaviour happening with
contacts that autolink on both GTalk and MSN, and in this situation
the autolinks are kept, but other linking is lost. Contacts that are
linked and don't have an equivalent in more than one account of the
same protocol are not affected by this problem.

  I'm using Empathy 2.34.0-0ubuntu3.1 on Ubuntu 11.04.

  Hi,

It would be great if empathy support RFC6189 (ZRTP) across the various

Typically SIP and XMPP/Jingle since they both use RTP; just as having

  of voice communications as well.

  Thanks,

I'm running Maverick beta (last updated Sept 27th 2010) with Empathy
  2.32.0.

In what appears to be a regression from Lucid, I cannot control the
Empathy contact list by the keyboard. I would like to do the
  following:

  1. Press tab to change focus from the buddy list to status settings

  2. Select a status from the dropdown list (to be fair, this might not
  have been available in Lucid)

  3. Press enter while a contact is selected to open a chat window with
  that contact

Currently, while the status text box is focused, I can type a new
status and enter it, but I cannot open the dropdown menu. Pressing tab
in the status text box changes focus to the buddy list (rather than to
  the dropdown menu button).

The more serious problem is that, apparently, while the buddy list is
focused (e.g. a contact is highlighted) any key besides up and down
will defocus the application. I cannot press tab to go back to the
status text box, and I cannot press enter to open a chat window with
that contact. Even pressing letter or number keys will defocus the
  application.

This is very annoying for me as I primarily use the keyboard. I would
be happy to provide further information and some time debugging.
