[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1694129] Re: Cannot attach Network Shares in Thunderbird
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1714518 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1714518 I used to work amount this with a symbolic from Desktop to /run/user/${userid}/gvfs/smb- share:server=${servername},share=${sharename} Now that doesn't work either. After attaching the file, you can still double click on it, in the open draft. That opens fine. But when trying to send the message, thunderbird complains that it can't attache the file. Copying the file to Desktop first works fine. Also, if the symbolic link is from local, to local, then it works. so the symbolic link does not appear to be the issue. Using Thunderbird 60.4 on Unbuntu 18.04 I think the symbolic link workaround stopped working after I upgraded from Ubuntu 16.04 to 18.04 18.04 does "add a feature though". It does show the "+ Other locations" entry in left panel of the "attach files" dialog. However, when using that the same thing happens, it fails. See attached screenshots. ** Attachment added: "failed to sen attachments" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/1694129/+attachment/5234296/+files/Screenshot%20from%202019%2001%2030%2015%2046%2021.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to thunderbird in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1694129 Title: Cannot attach Network Shares in Thunderbird Status in thunderbird package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Suddenly (and I'm not sure if this was after a recent Ubuntu update or a Thunderbird one, Thunderbird no longer shows "Network" locations in the 'Attach File(s)' window. Normally below "Bookmarks" is another section "Network" which shows my network locations, however this entire section is now missing. There is now no way of attaching a file existing anywhere on the network to an outgoing email. Nautilus can see and access all the network locations 100% fine. Drag/drop into the outgoing email from Nautilus will attach a network file to the email but Thunderbird refuses to send it and throws up a "Send Message Error": Sending of the message failed. There was an error attaching smb://mypc/my documents/myfolder/file.xls. Please check that you have access to the file. Attaching network files in Thunderbird and on Ubuntu 14.04 has worked fine for two years. I'm a "user" and really not that au-fait with the inner workings of Linux so I hope this helps. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1579543] Re: Firefox 46 is missing network shares in file selector
a workaround is to bookmark (either within nautilus or the FF file browser) to file system location: /var/run/user/1000/gvfs/ (your user id may be different) That bookmark (presumably because it is just a filepath and not a smb:// "url") does appear in FF filebrowser Bookmarks section. You can then use that bookmark from the FF filebrowser and then choose the mounted smb drive and continue filebrowsing from there. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1579543 Title: Firefox 46 is missing network shares in file selector Status in firefox package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Expected behavior: Firefox file selection windows show network shares mounted via Nautilus (i.e. gvfs SMB mounts). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 230374] Re: Nautilus unusably slow with large ~/.gvfs dirs
** Changed in: gvfs (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid = New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gvfs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/230374 Title: Nautilus unusably slow with large ~/.gvfs dirs Status in “gvfs” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Binary package hint: gvfs-fuse Version: 0.2.3-0ubuntu5 Browsing dirs with many files (5000) is unusably slow with ~/.gvfs. Example: cd; mkdir huge; cd huge - #!/bin/bash for i in `seq 1 5000` do cp /etc/inputrc $i done Browsing to /home/gdh/huge with Nautilus takes 4 seconds. Great! Adding a network share to sftp://localhost and browsing to sftp://localhost/home/gdh/huge takes 10 seconds. A bit slower as I'd expect - still perfectly acceptable. Browsing to /home/gdh/.gvfs/sftp on localhost/home/gdh/huge takes 160 seconds. This is unusable. gvfs-sftp uses ~27% , and gvfs-fuse-daemon uses ~10% during this final test. I see the same behaviour with remote Samba shares, but using sftp to localhost eliminates network issues. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 894048] Re: Keyboard accelerators not working correctly in Firefox and Thunderbird after upgrade from 11.04 (Natty) to 11.10 (Oneiric)
Yes, can confirm that this bug exists for me too..and yes it is quite frustrating for those of us that like menu access keys and dislike mice. Doug Morses discription is very precise and matches what I see. I can also note that the global menu in chromium does not seem support access keys at all? After window first loaded or at any time? Oliver -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to thunderbird in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/894048 Title: Keyboard accelerators not working correctly in Firefox and Thunderbird after upgrade from 11.04 (Natty) to 11.10 (Oneiric) Status in “thunderbird” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Hi, After upgrading from Natty (11.04) to Oneiric (11.10), the keyboard accelerators for firefox-globalmenu and thunderbird-globalmenu have stopped working correctly. Behavior: When pressing a keyboard accelerator, for example, Alt-F for the File menu, for the first time after a window is created, it is not possible to then continue pressing accelerator keys in the submenu. This makes using makes using combinations of keys to access menu items impossible -- the only work around is to then use the mouse or press the down arrow once for the purpose of highlighting the first item in the choosen submenu, at which point that (and only that) submenu's accelerators become available. However, the problem also applies to subsubmenus, subsubsubmenus, etc. Oddly, once a submenu has been used one, then the keyboard accelerators do work for it for as long as that window exists (at least as far as I can tell; I haven't checked globalmenu's memory for this for subsubmenus, etc.). This behavior is particular problematic when one is constantly creating new windows. For example, every time I compose a new message in Thunderbird, it creates a new window for that purpose. Because I prefer to send messages in both HTML and plain text, I need to, at some point during message composition, access the menu item Options - Format - Plain and Rich (HTML) text. The sequence of keyboard accelerators for this is Alt-P, F, L (for each menu component, respectively). This keyboard accelerator sequence has always worked for me up until Oneiric (11.10). Now it no longer does, and it's quite frustrating, as I use all sorts of keyboard accelerator sequences in both Thunderbird and Firefox. This Thunderbird message composition highlights the problem particularly well, because every time I compose a message, a new window is created, and thus the accelerators don't work each time. Even with more persistent windows, such as the main Thunderbird or Firefox windows I keep open, I can't keep up with whether I've already accessed a particular submenu or not, so I basically give up on using accelerators in either one of these applications, which are two of the four applications I use most. This problem does not appear for other applications, at least as far as I can tell. I have tested both gvim and TexMakerX and keyboard accelerator sequences seem to work fine consistently for both of them. Expected behavior: Sequences of keyboard accelerators should always work in both Thunderbird and Firefox with globalmenu enabled (the default).
