[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1960679] [NEW] Dekstop icon extension can't handle moving icons to a to-be-empty spot
Public bug reported: You can easily test this by setting up 2 or more icons on the desktop in any way then moving them in such a way that one of the icons will be moved to the spot where another icon currently is, but that other icon is also being moved by the same action to another empty spot. Behaviour: icons that are moved to the spot described above will stay in place Note: it has to do with the order the icons are moved so if you try moving icon 1 where icon 2 currently is and they are both moved correctly, try to move them so that icon 2 is moved where icon 1 is and it will have issues Ubuntu 21.10 Extension 20-0ubuntu3 ** Affects: gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons-ng (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons-ng in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1960679 Title: Dekstop icon extension can't handle moving icons to a to-be-empty spot Status in gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons-ng package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: You can easily test this by setting up 2 or more icons on the desktop in any way then moving them in such a way that one of the icons will be moved to the spot where another icon currently is, but that other icon is also being moved by the same action to another empty spot. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1828967] Re: Gnome shell and Xorg use at least 10% CPU
So this issue is happening when I have a single Chrome tab open (on this issue page) and nothing else. The usage does spike up to higher than 25% for a couple of seconds then back down to 10%-ish (one for Xorg and one for Gnome shell, so 20% on average). My laptop fans spin quite loudly too. I thought it might have been because I was trying a new GTK theme, but I went back to Yaru dark and I still see the same issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1828967 Title: Gnome shell and Xorg use at least 10% CPU Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Related to Issue #1773959 On a fresh install of Ubuntu 19.04 on a 2019 Dell XPS 13, I have very high CPU usage from gnome-shell and Xorg (each one is taking up around 10%) when no other process is running. I can confirm it still exists on 16.04. Any news regarding this? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1589605 Title: evolution-calendar-factory uses lots of memory Status in evolution package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in evolution-data-server package in Ubuntu: Expired Status in indicator-datetime package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: As filed under bug #1342123 (under Canonical System Image, i.e. for mobile installs) by several users, including desktop installs, evolution-calendar-factory (previsouly in 14.04) then evolution-calendar-factory-subprocess (in 16.04) run using several hundreds of megabytes of memory (~ 300 Mio in my case). This might have to do with having lots of linked calendars (Google Agenda or other). Another user on my system has much fewer Google Agendas than me and her memory usage of evolution-calendar-factory-subprocess is less, but still close to 100 Mio. There have been random crashes of the process, mostly directly upon login, always caused by addressing memory out of range. There used to be a workaround by invoking the process a second time, which caused it to exit more or less gracefully. This is not the case anymore in 16.04. Unfortunately, searching Google leads to the bug #1342123 which concerns "Canonical System Image", and several users have replied even though it does not only concern mobile installs, which is not immediately self-evident when you are not aware what "Canonical System Image" stands for… To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/1589605/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 973241] Re: ipw2200 driver doesn't report any capabilities or wireless properties using the nl80211 interface to network-manager
I think I saw some patch (ubuntu only?) that adds wep support even if nothing is advertised but only in certain cases. Nothing is added if you manually try to add a network. I added a note to my upstream bug but I didn't mention this behavior I observed in my originial bug report upstream and I didn't do any research why there is no signal strength. Might be a nm bug because I'm connected to a network where the encryption is not supported or it might be something in the ipw2x00 drivers. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/973241 Title: ipw2200 driver doesn't report any capabilities or wireless properties using the nl80211 interface to network-manager Status in The Linux Kernel: Confirmed Status in NetworkManager: New Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu: In Progress Bug description: I filed this as a bug to network manager first (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/971628). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 973241] Re: ipw2200 driver doesn't report any capabilities or wireless properties using the nl80211 interface to network-manager
ok that patch obviously solves the problem for all ipw2100 und ipw2200 owners but there are potentially some more drivers affected by the strange kernel behavior of not reporting a non nl80211 compliant driver to userspace (at least not in an way nm understands). If I assume that every driver that is nl80211 compatible doesn't need to supply information by means of an iw_range struct because this is done by wext- compat.c for it just grepping the kernel source for filling of this structure yields the following possibly affected drivers: ps3_gelic_wireless.c, wl3501_cs.c, atmel.c, zd1201.c, airo.c, ray_cs.c, hostap, prism54, r8180_wx.c, vt6655, rtl8712, wlags49_h2, vt6656, rtl8192u, rtl8192e. On the other hand does the patch also handle Intel Pro Wireless 2915 which is handled by ipw2200 too? What about checking if a wireless driver can encrypt at all for determining that nl80211 shouldn't be used? A wireless device that doesn't even support WEP is pretty useless I think. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/973241 Title: ipw2200 driver doesn't report any capabilities or wireless properties using the nl80211 interface to network-manager Status in The Linux Kernel: Confirmed Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu: In Progress Bug description: I filed this as a bug to network manager first (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/971628). Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 971628] Re: Can't use WPA with ipw2200
Should the nl80211 interface be patched out of the kernel? Or patcheed to report encryption capabilities? This interface doesn't even report that wep is supported and thats plain wrong. I agree with you that this patch isn't the best way to solve this. I just asked myself: if I can call the nl80211 util function and it returns NULL if that's not implemented, shouldn't it be possible to do the same with the wext function? But I didn't check thoroughly. I think ubuntu schould just work out of the box. Many just aren't interested why. There are some threads around the internet where this problem is solved simply by not using network-manager. wicd is used instead because it just works. WPA is officialy supported by intel on windows und it obviously works on linux/ubuntu if network-manager isn't used so I have no doubt that WPA is supported on linux. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/971628 Title: Can't use WPA with ipw2200 Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: If some driver implements wext interface and nl80211 interface the latter is preferred.
