[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1960679] [NEW] Dekstop icon extension can't handle moving icons to a to-be-empty spot

2022-02-11 Thread Omar Abdul'Azeez
Public bug reported:

You can easily test this by setting up 2 or more icons on the desktop in
any way then moving them in such a way that one of the icons will be
moved to the spot where another icon currently is, but that other icon
is also being moved by the same action to another empty spot.

Behaviour: icons that are moved to the spot described above will stay in
place

Note: it has to do with the order the icons are moved so if you try
moving icon 1 where icon 2 currently is and they are both moved
correctly, try to move them so that icon 2 is moved where icon 1 is and
it will have issues

Ubuntu 21.10
Extension 20-0ubuntu3

** Affects: gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons-ng (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1767541] Re: Transparent background of calculator in ubuntu 18.04 using communitheme

2019-05-16 Thread Omar Rigoberto Hernandez Sapiens
Same issue.

Looks like it's the snap version of communitheme-dark.

Switched to communitheme using gnome-tweaks and got the solid-white
background back, though switching back to thedark version and the
transparent background is still there.

Note: First, I tried Mihai Banu (m-banu94) solution and then returned to
snap communitheme (not wayland)

I know this is slightly getting off-topic but is there anything other
than gnome-shell you would recommend that I can use for the time being?

On a fresh install of Ubuntu 19.04 on a 2019 Dell XPS 13, I have very high
CPU usage from gnome-shell and Xorg (each one is taking up around 10%) when no
other process is running. This increased greatly to more than 20% for
gnome-shell when I enabled showing seconds in the top bar. After disabling
seconds, I went back to ~10% cpu usage for each of those processes again. I
opened this because most of the other relevant issues are closed, expired, or

I'm not so sure it's the same as the other two, I'll run another test

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1828967] Re: Gnome shell and Xorg use at least 10% CPU

2019-05-15 Thread Omar Bahareth
So this issue is happening when I have a single Chrome tab open (on this
issue page) and nothing else. The usage does spike up to higher than 25%
for a couple of seconds then back down to 10%-ish (one for Xorg and one
for Gnome shell, so 20% on average). My laptop fans spin quite loudly
too. I thought it might have been because I was trying a new GTK theme,
but I went back to Yaru dark and I still see the same issue.

Title:
Gnome shell and Xorg high cpu usage

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Related to Issue #1773959

On a fresh install of Ubuntu 19.04 on a 2019 Dell XPS 13, I have very high
CPU usage from gnome-shell and Xorg (each one is taking up around 10%) when no
other process is running. This increased greatly to more than 20% for
gnome-shell when I enabled showing seconds in the top bar. After disabling
seconds, I went back to ~10% cpu usage for each of those processes again. I
opened this because most of the other relevant issues are closed, expired, or
marked as invalid.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1752053] Re: nvidia-390 fails to boot graphical display

2018-09-07 Thread Omar Alvarez
I am also having this issue, system fully updated, nvidia-driver-396,
GTX 1050Ti, kernel 4.15.0-33-generic. Also happens with nvidia-
driver-390. The fix for me was #123:

sudo service gdm stop ; sleep 5 ; sudo service gdm start

This is definitely not fixed.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1750126] Re: major failure in startup

2018-02-17 Thread Mohamed omar
thanks Christopher for the reply, but it happens that it was a
production machine and i could not lose another day, so i swept every
thing after backup and make a fresh installation.

Yes that was after automatic update not sure which package but i do
doubt compiz, the error was that the unity fail, the title bar of all
windows, the top main bar , and the launch sidebar , also the keyboard
shortcut for language switch was not working.

i have cairo-doc which is bottom icon bar -simulate mac- it was working
perfectly.

i have trying many things. but nothing work, the idea of this could
happen again in haunting me, and i do not know what to do with update
form now on.

Bug description:
As filed under bug #1342123 (under Canonical System Image, i.e. for mobile
installs) by several users, including desktop installs,
evolution-calendar-factory (previsouly in 14.04) then
evolution-calendar-factory-subprocess (in 16.04) run using several hundreds of
megabytes of memory (~ 300 Mio in my case).
This might have to do with having lots of linked calendars (Google Agenda or
other). Another user on my system has much fewer Google Agendas than me and her
memory usage of evolution-calendar-factory-subprocess is less, but still close
to 100 Mio.
There have been random crashes of the process, mostly directly upon login,
always caused by addressing memory out of range.
There used to be a workaround by invoking the process a second time, which
caused it to exit more or less gracefully. This is not the case anymore in
16.04.
Unfortunately, searching Google leads to the bug #1342123 which concerns
"Canonical System Image", and several users have replied even though it does
not only concern mobile installs, which is not immediately self-evident when
you are not aware what "Canonical System Image" stands for…

Font is garbled (in whole or in part) in dialog boxes in LibreOffice

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
EDIT: Note the later dialog box (that can't be degarbled by selecting)
with mostly correct fonts (incorrect at the top, not talking about the
Chinese letter, which are a separate issue, that I however do not
recall previously, but think I know what is..). Since the first
dialog-box below, there was one or more completely garbled:

Note the first dialog may not always display, because of special my
condition* but in case it does not everyone might realize you can
select the text to see it:

"Either another instance of LibreOffice is accessing your personal settings
or your personal settings are locked.
Simultaneous access can lead to inconsistencies in your personal settings.
Before continuing, you should make sure user 'qwerty' closes LibreOffice on
host 'Vinnuryksugan'.

Do you really want to continue?"

  * There is no simultaneous access, and note, I not reporting a problem
with the text per se, just that it was unreadable.

[I had just done a clean install to 16.04, but also copied my [/home]
profile; Not aware of where font info is, it if came with the profile.
I guess I didn't cleanly exit LibreOffice and it wouldn't have
complained if my new machine had the same name.

I used ubuntu-bug -w (from the command line, but previously from the
dash, that bizarrely opens "Ubuntu Software"; previously I tried
"ubuntu-bug libreoffice"). Should I report something more on these
  extra issues?]

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1336234] Re: Can't use native resolution of my screen

2014-07-05 Thread SADEG Omar
The bug has been solved, I reset the size screen from the screen menu. I

But I don't know where the problem realy is, if it happen again, I don't
know if what I did there will work again ...

Same here. I am able to get around the bug by doing another suspend,
then wake up. After this one, the keyboard works.

Bug description:

  software-center 5.6.0-0ubuntu2, Ubuntu 13.04

I am running gdm and my session is openbox-gnome (not Unity) on Ubuntu 11.10
  I installed GnomishDark theme from
http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/GnomishDark?content=147290
because I strongly prefer dark background.
I used gnome-tweak-tool to set my window and GTK theme to GnomishDark
Now Ubuntu Software Center appears with light text and a light foreground.

  See the attached screenshot.

It appears to take the text foreground color from the GTK theme, but
  ignored the theme background color.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 973241] Re: ipw2200 driver doesn't report any capabilities or wireless properties using the nl80211 interface to network-manager

2012-04-12 Thread Omar Siam
I think I saw some patch (ubuntu only?) that adds wep support even if nothing
is advertised but only in certain cases. Nothing is added if you manually try
to add a network.
I added a note to my upstream bug but I didn't mention this behavior I observed
in my originial bug report upstream and I didn't do any research why there is
no signal strength. Might be a nm bug because I'm connected to a network where
the encryption is not supported or it might be something in the ipw2x00 drivers.

2012-04-11 Thread Omar Siam
That kernel patch will fix the encryption reporting and ruin my
detection patch in any kernel where this will be incorportated. That
makes things work to some extend, but you won't get any signal strength
for the network you are connected.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 973241] Re: ipw2200 driver doesn't report any capabilities or wireless properties using the nl80211 interface to network-manager

2012-04-07 Thread Omar Siam
ok that patch obviously solves the problem for all ipw2100 und ipw2200
owners but there are potentially some more drivers affected by the
strange kernel behavior of not reporting a non nl80211 compliant driver
to userspace (at least not in an way nm understands). If I assume that
every driver that is nl80211 compatible doesn't need to supply
information by means of an iw_range struct because this is done by wext-
compat.c for it just grepping the kernel source for filling of this
structure yields the following possibly affected drivers:
ps3_gelic_wireless.c, wl3501_cs.c, atmel.c, zd1201.c, airo.c, ray_cs.c,
hostap, prism54, r8180_wx.c, vt6655, rtl8712, wlags49_h2, vt6656,
rtl8192u, rtl8192e. On the other hand does the patch also handle Intel
Pro Wireless 2915 which is handled by ipw2200 too? What about checking
if a wireless driver can encrypt at all for determining that nl80211
shouldn't be used? A wireless device that doesn't even support WEP is
pretty useless I think.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 973241] Re: ipw2200 driver doesn't report any capabilities or wireless properties using the nl80211 interface to network-manager

2012-04-07 Thread Omar Siam
I suggest this patch which doesn't rely on string comparison of driver
names that much.

** Patch added: ipw2x00-no-nl80211.patch

Title:
ipw2200 driver doesn't report any capabilities or wireless properties
using the nl80211 interface to network-manager

Status in The Linux Kernel:
  Confirmed
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged
Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
I filed this as a bug to network manager first
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/971628). Using
standard network-manager nm-tool (and subsequently all tools built upon nm)
reports
  - Device: eth1 [SERVANTS-WLAN]

Type: 802.11 WiFi
Driver:ipw2200
State: connected
Default: yes
HW Address:whatever

Capabilities:

Wireless Properties

Wireless Access Points
  ...
  Apr 4 11:28:57 Marias-NB NetworkManager[1053]: info (eth1): using nl80211
for WiFi device control
(Note: the NB is connected becaus I configured the connection once, but I
couldn't create a new one.)

If I persude nm to use wext nm-tool reports:

  - Device: eth1 [SERVANTS-WLAN]

Type: 802.11 WiFi
Driver:ipw2200
State: connected
Default: yes
HW Address:whatever

Capabilities:
  Speed: 24 Mb/s

Wireless Properties
  WEP Encryption: yes
  WPA Encryption: yes
  WPA2 Encryption: yes
  ...
  Apr 4 11:01:59 Marias-NB NetworkManager[851]: info (eth1): using WEXT for
WiFi device control
And that's how I configured the connection in the first place.

Perhaps this could be fixed just by disabling nl80211 in ipw2200?

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 971628] Re: Can't use WPA with ipw2200

2012-04-04 Thread Omar Siam
Should the nl80211 interface be patched out of the kernel? Or patcheed
to report encryption capabilities? This interface doesn't even report
that wep is supported and thats plain wrong. I agree with you that this
patch isn't the best way to solve this. I just asked myself: if I can
call the nl80211 util function and it returns NULL if that's not
implemented, shouldn't it be possible to do the same with the wext
function? But I didn't check thoroughly. I think ubuntu schould just
work out of the box. Many just aren't interested why. There are some
threads around the internet where this problem is solved simply by not
using network-manager. wicd is used instead because it just works. WPA
is officialy supported by intel on windows und it obviously works on
linux/ubuntu if network-manager isn't used so I have no doubt that WPA
is supported on linux.

Status in Ayatana Design:
  Fix Released
Status in gnome-user-share:

Status in One Hundred Paper Cuts:

Status in “gnome-user-share” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: nautilus

What happens - I open the Personal file sharing preferences dialog via
system-preferences or via nautilus, and Im told that the network sharing
feature can not be enabled because the required packages are not on your pc.
I, as a tech user, went to synaptic, found the package, looked for its
recommends and got the functionality.
A normal user wont be able to do so, and so a button to install those
packages is needed for usabilty's sake.

  --

  Desired resolution:

  - Remove the Sharing Options right click menu option from Nautilus.
  - If a advanced user chooses to install the required packages, the menu
should re-appear in Nautilus.
