Title:
  please enable popsquares screensaver

Status in xscreensaver package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
It was disabled because of the name clash with the one in gnome-
screensaver. It has now been removed in Ubuntu gnome-screensaver, so
it can be put back in xscreensaver again (only the .desktop file is
  missing).

This will not happen in Debian yet, since the gnome-screensaver there
(and upstream) still ships its own popsquares.

  PREVIOUSLY LINKED QUESTION:
  https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xscreensaver/+question/149793

  ORIGINAL REPORT:

  Binary package hint: xscreensaver

On a new install of Lucid, I can't find the popsquares screensaver,
which was previously part of xscreensaver.

The changelog for the gnome-screensaver package shows that it was
recently removed from there because the developers thought it was part
  of the xscreensaver-extra package (see
  https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/lucid/+source/gnome-
  screensaver/+changelog for gnome-screensaver 2.28.0-1ubuntu1).
However, the popsquares screensaver is not currently listed as part of
  the xscreensaver-extra package.

This particular screensaver was a favorite of my son. Any chance it
can be restored? If not, any suggestions on how to add it manually?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 222367] Re: Star Wars screensaver doesn't handle non-ASCII well

2016-12-04 Thread Oskar Wallgren
>From the xscreensaver 5.31 changelog:
UTF-8 text support (instead of only Latin1) and antialiased text on X11 with
Xft (instead of only on OSX/iOS) in fontglide, noseguy, fliptext, starwars, and
winduprobot. The other text-displaying hacks (apple2, phosphor, xmatrix, and
gltext) also now accept UTF-8 input, though they convert it to Latin1 or ASCII.

Fixed in xenial and later.

Status in gnome-mahjongg package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
When started, gnome-mahjongg uses appr. 0.43 % of my 4GiB of RAM. After
making the first move it begins to claim more memory until it gets killed by
Linux "out of memory". It's memory "consumption" lies at about 5MiB/sec. After
some games this rate rises. It happens all the time. My guess would be the
prediction of possibilities, which leaks somewhere.
I'm running on Linux Mint "nadia" 64bit (DE Mate)

I hope this is no duplicate, at least I haven't come across this on

I looks like this has been changed upstream (5.36 10-Oct-2016). Noof works fine
and the above code has been changed.
Line 31 in hacks/glx/noof.c reads:

Title:
Rash of .desktop files xscreensaver package

Status in xscreensaver package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in xscreensaver package in Debian:
  Unknown

Bug description:
the xscreensaver package installs a .desktop file for each screensaver
under /usr/share/applications/xscreensaver. In GNOME 3 these all show
up in the applications overlay in the "Activities" screen. Is there a
good reason for all of the .desktop files? Can they be places in a
default location such that they don't show up as GNOME 3 Apps? Not
sure what the behaviour is in Unity, but I'd guess it's the same. This
is bad behaviour for the GUI dependent user -- i.e. me -- who may not
connect a recent install with a new flood of iconless apps that will
then quietly run in the background if clicked.

  So, to summarise:

What I'm trying to achieve: modify installation of xscreensaver
package such that .desktop files either don't exist or install in a
location where GNOME (and other desktop environments) wont pick them
  up.

Steps I took: installed xscreensaver package under Ubuntu 14.10 with
  GNOME 3.12

What I would like to have happen: Allow install without the apps
appearing in GNOME Activities Apps overlay.

Thanks much and I'm willing to help as much as I can.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1399579] Re: Rash of .desktop files xscreensaver package

2016-12-03 Thread Oskar Wallgren
As of release 5.05, this has been fixed.
https://www.jwz.org/xscreensaver/changelog.html

The Debian bug linked above isn't about this specific bug but that
the message isn't obvious enough.
It isn't displayed with big flashing red letters but it's there.

This text appears in the message box if you fail to enter correct
password with Caps Lock on:
"Authentication failed (Caps Lock?)"

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1124322] Re: Ubuntu Software Center Not Working

2013-04-17 Thread Oskar Wallgren
Hello!

When you change the status of the bug to 'Confirmed' it is reopened. I
close it as 'Invalid' as this is no longer a problem for you and it
probably was more a support case in the first place.

For future questions/troubleshooting, I warmly recommend that you join a forum.
Either ubuntuforums:
http://ubuntuforums.org/forum.php
or a local community:
http://loco.ubuntu.com/

Good luck!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1050231] Re: Geting errors while moving, deleting and in getting mails

2013-02-28 Thread Oskar Wallgren
Hi!

Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat reached EOL on April 10, 2012.
See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

If there is a bug here it may already have been fixed in a later release
but that change won't affect the version of Ubuntu you're using. If this
still is a problem for you I recommend that you post a question
https://answers.launchpad.net/ ,or join a forum (warmly recommended!)
http://ubuntuforums.org/

problem.

It installs a maintained version of cdrecord that wodim was forked of.
Wodim was dead last I checked.

Hi!

This is an info page on running Debian on a Lenovo W510

It recommends the tp-smapi-dkms package for increased battery life and the
Ubuntu package is the same version.

I'm using a Lenovo W510 notebook, when the battery is nearly fully
charged the battery status indicator flips between a battery graphic
alone and a battery graphic displaying a charge percentage which is
wider. This leads to a nagging sense that I'm receiving an email and
general feeling of discontent, much like looting the north west
  airfield in DayZ.

I suspect the cause is that the battery pulse charges up the last 5%
or so and the monitor is seeing the charging status changing from idle
to charging repeatedly. Perhaps there should be a ride-through period,
only change the displayed status if it remains stable for 1 minute.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1091009] Re: Strange sound distortion in VLC for a few seconds after pressing play button

Title:
Strange sound distortion in VLC for a few seconds after pressing play
  button

Status in “pulseaudio” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
This happens almost always at cold start (VLC not sitting in system tray or
has not been used recently);
this happens very frequently then vlc switches to the next song in playlist
or then vlc drops the stream and re-buffers.

I've tried default and pulseaudio audio output in audio
  preferences under output module.

Almost identical noise can be heard in a video game called
quakelive, in there it last longer and appears then new map loads.
Strange workaround is to open sound settings input devices show
monitors. Noise goes away after simply displaying monitors in sound
  settings.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1091009] Re: Strange sound distortion in VLC for a few seconds after pressing play button

2013-02-17 Thread Oskar Wallgren
Your using Ubuntu 12.10 and VLC 2.0.5 is now in the tracker
http://packages.ubuntu.com/quantal/vlc

Can you confirm that it's fixed?

Also, alsa-driver (Ubuntu) is perhaps the wrong place for the bug?

Right click gives the usual menu and I can bring up All Settings, but I
change anything in the screens menu.
The two keyboard shortcuts I know still work, ctrl-alt L and Terminal, but
the windows key doesn't.

The top bar is on the screen until I log in. I tried logging in as
  guest, no change

Per some other instructions I opened Terminal and entered a reset on
something, sorry, I don't recall what the command was but it was an
answer to a missing Home bar.

The only reason I decided to upgrade was to try to get dual-monitor
functionality back after I lost it in the last upgrade.

Computer is Acer Aspire one netbook, 2 gig ram, dual boot with Windows

Hi!

DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.10
This is an old release and one who wasn't a dedicated long time support relese.
Support in this case ended 30 April 2010 and are down.

I convert this bug to a question so maybe someone can help you further. My
advice is that you update to a later release.
