The strange thing is it's only the client that died. The server
survived and I can connect new clients to it.

Duplicate bug reports now show Unity8 is another such client suffering
from this crash. It's occurring on phones in the wild.

Title:
Crackling sound after playing audio and suspended

Status in Canonical System Image:

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
The Meizu MX4 is doing a weird "tic tic tic..." after receive a
notification (from telegram, mail...) and it's suspended.

  --

When I press the screen lock button on the MX4 shortly after playing
music or ending a phone call I hear a radio/fuzzy distorted noise
coming from the phone. To make it stop I need to unlock and lock the
screen again but this is not ideal.

  -

When the screen is locked and the playing song is finished and waiting
for a stopped signal, MX4 will do a weird lower sound.

  -

  TEST CASE (Thanks to Kamikaze)
  1. Boot the device and wait until it suspends (black screen)
  2. ssh to the device
  3. Run from the command line:
    $ aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Left.wav
  4. Repeat step 3 until you reproduce the issue (3 to 5 times)

  --- Original Case ---
How to reproduce (Note this does not always work, the phone needs to be in
some specific state yet to be determined)

Ensure MX4 is not plugged into USB
Call the MX4 and hear the ringtone
  Dismiss the call
Push the power button to turn off the screen
  Tick Tick Tick
Push the power button to turn on the screen
  hissing
Push the power button to turn off the screen
  Tick Tick Tick
  etc

It will not clear until you play another sound
Does not happen in silent mode of course

  --from the dupe

  Aquaris E4.5

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Start playing a podcast.
  2. Switch to a different app.
  3. Lock the screen.
  4. Wait for the Podcast to finish.
  5. Wait a bit longer.

  Expected results:

  No noise from speaker.

  Actual results:

Soft white noise from speaker. It seems that some part of the audio
subsystem is still switched on. I am concerned that this could be
  draining battery.

  Workaround:

After the Podcast finishes, unlock the phone and switch back to the
Podbird app. This causes the noise to stop.

  Comments:

I noticed the same soft white noise continues a second or two after
the phone plays any sound from any app, but then turns off. I presume
there is some time out turning off some part of the audio subsystem.
Presumably if there is a reason, it should happen even when the app
causing the sound to play is not active.

This might not be the place for this bug, please reassign as

I was only able to reproduce this on mako/rtm, krillin/vivid seems to
behave better (but I do remember the same issue there).

  Steps:
  * connect to a password-protected WiFi network
  * go out of range
  * make sure a GSM connection is established
  * go back in the WiFi range

  Expected:
  * phone connects to the known WiFi automatically

  Current:
  * phone does not connect to WiFi

WiFi and Plane mode to get some data on the issue.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1477838] Re: Crackling sound after playing audio and suspended

2016-01-28 Thread Pat McGowan
** Description changed:

The Meizu MX4 is doing a weird "tic tic tic..." after receive a
notification (from telegram, mail...) and it's suspended.

  --

When I press the screen lock button on the MX4 shortly after playing
music or ending a phone call I hear a radio/fuzzy distorted noise coming
from the phone. To make it stop I need to unlock and lock the screen
again but this is not ideal.

    $ aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Left.wav
  4. Repeat step 3 until you reproduce the issue (3 to 5 times)

  --- Original Case ---
How to reproduce (Note this does not always work, the phone needs to be in
some specific state yet to be determined)

Ensure MX4 is not plugged into USB
Call the MX4 and hear the ringtone
  Dismiss the call
Push the power button to turn off the screen
  Tick Tick Tick
Push the power button to turn on the screen
  hissing
Push the power button to turn off the screen
  Tick Tick Tick
  etc

It will not clear until you play another sound
Does not happen in silent mode of course

  --from the dupe

+ Aquaris E4.5
+
  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Start playing a podcast.
  2. Switch to a different app.
  3. Lock the screen.
  4. Wait for the Podcast to finish.
  5. Wait a bit longer.

  Expected results:

  No noise from speaker.

  Actual results:

Soft white noise from speaker. It seems that some part of the audio
subsystem is still switched on. I am concerned that this could be
  draining battery.

  Workaround:

After the Podcast finishes, unlock the phone and switch back to the
Podbird app. This causes the noise to stop.

  Comments:

I noticed the same soft white noise continues a second or two after the
phone plays any sound from any app, but then turns off. I presume there
is some time out turning off some part of the audio subsystem.
Presumably if there is a reason, it should happen even when the app
causing the sound to play is not active.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1537668] Re: upower charge history doesn't update when device resumes from suspend

Title:
upower charge history doesn't update when device resumes from suspend

Status in Canonical System Image:
  Confirmed
Status in upower package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  mako rc-proposed/ubunut 348

Possible one reason of the symptoms observed in bug 1471913

In some cases, apparently when the state of the device changes and the
device is immediately suspended, upower history stops being updated
and results in graphs like the one attached (ignore the sudden drop
then jump between 5:00AM and 10:00AM, investigation is still ongoing)

In the history file attached, the history stops on Sun, 24 Jan 2016
09:36:50 GMT (1453628210) It corresponds to the state change of the
device (charging -> discharging) around the same time (1453628284 -
  Sun, 24 Jan 2016 09:38:04 GMT in power.20160124-103548.csv)

Then if you plug the device to a charger and unplug it but don't
suspend it the update of the history resumes normally (around
10:00PM). The graph shows the charge decreasing linearly (which is
wrong, it should look like the graph history-from-sysfs.png which is
  based on battery/capacity sysfs entry)

The attached screenshot shows the network 4G data is available but
doesn't connect as shown in the indicator.

  Possible Test Case:
  1. Disable main sources of wakeup (bt, wifi, location, set airplane mode on)
  2. plug it to a charger for a short time (15min or so), but don't fully
charge it
  3. unplug the DUT and press the power button to suspend it
  4. wait several hours without waking up the device.

  Actual Result
The history is not updating anymore.

The prompt when the camera wants to access the hardware to record
audio is currently "wants to record audio". This is not really
accurate since an app can request access to the microphone without
actually recording anything. furthermore the direct translation to
French as an example is not really meaningful.

Something like "wants to access the microphone." would be more accurate since
it's actually what the application requests access to.

"Microphone" is also consistent with the word used in system-
  settings/security & privacy/app permissions

  2. With headphones connected, start a new game.
  3. After a while, disconnect the headphones.

  What happens:
  2. There's a volume notification each time a sound plays.
  3. There are no more volume notifications.

  What should happen:
  2. There are no volume notifications, because neither the sound output nor
the volume is changing.

  : "When the primary sound
output changes for any reason except an app request, or when the sound
volume changes for any reason, a confirmation bubble should appear ...
There should be no special notification when the active output role
  changes."

This could be a side-effect of bug 1418210, but probably not, since it
is idempotent: the notifications keep happening even if you don't
change the volume in the meantime.

When the "Marron in trouble" games launches a sound the multimedia

the music app or other games/apps. The volume in that case is in sync

This is the code from the indicator-sound where we get the 100%
  volume.

  var props_variant = yield _pconn.call
("org.PulseAudio.Ext.StreamRestore1.RestoreEntry",
sink_input_objp,
"org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties", "Get",
new Variant ("(ss)",
"org.PulseAudio.Ext.StreamRestore1.RestoreEntry", "Volume"),
null, DBusCallFlags.NONE, -1);
Variant tmp;
props_variant.get ("(v)", out tmp);
uint32 type = 0, volume = 0;
VariantIter iter = tmp.iterator ();
iter.next ("(uu)", &type, &volume);

I did a workaround branch in the indicator-sound that reads the volume
at initilaization for every role and stores any change When the sink
is updated I read the volume in it that is already stored instead of
  reading the volume from pulse.

I'm not convinced of that, and would like to know why I get 100%
volume only for this particular game.

  DESCRIPTION:
I've been trying to track down the cause of the occasional UI freezes on my
Krillin device, and I noticed that whenever the UI freezes for 2-4 seconds, I
get a burst of "PropertiesChanged" signals in dbus-monitor

  Here's a log of what's shown in dbus-monitor:
  http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/11992322/

I'd guess the problem is in the code that actually catches the signals
  and acts accordingly.

  HOW TO REPRODUCE:
  1) Move to a place where many wifi hotspots are available
  2) Connect the device via USB and run "phablet-shell" and then "dbus-monitor"
  3) Use the device while keeping an eye on dbus-monitor output

then definitely not the same bug, you may want to submit a new bug
against the kernel although its not clear to me its not hardware related

I see other similar reports where people have resolved by unplugging
devices and shutting down the PC, modprobe the usb driver, etc but no
idea

The original bug was that it was repeatedly popping up the error dialog
saying it could not mount it. In this case it is mounting it
successfully but for some reason is remounting it, as if you lost
connection.

If you watch the syslog you may see if it actually sees the connection
dropping and reconnecting. Dumb question but have you tried a different
cable.

I have started to test the printing stack of Ubuntu on the phone (see

I have a Nexus 4 now to test the printing stack on the phone.

First I have updated the USB-connected phone to the development branch
  of the OS via

  ubuntu-device-flash touch --channel=devel

with the phone booted into Ubuntu and the screen unlocked.

After the reboot of the phone I have run

  phablet-config writable-image

to be able to install packages with apt-get and entered a shell on the
  phone via

  phablet-shell

In the shell I first installed a level-1 printing stack (See
  https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/client-1305-printing-
  stack-with-mobile-in-mind for the levels):

  sudo apt-get install cups-daemon cups-browsed avahi-daemon

This makes the following new packages getting installed:

The following NEW packages will be installed:
avahi-daemon bc bind9-host cups-browsed cups-daemon libavahi-core7
libavahi-glib1 libbind9-90 libcupsmime1 libdaemon0 libdns100 libgeoip1
libisc95 libisccc90 libisccfg90 liblwres90 libpaper1 ssl-cert
0 upgraded, 18 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 1,502 kB of archives.
After this operation, 4,698 kB of additional disk space will be used.

The installation was hanging on the postinst of CUPS, so I had to open
a new shell in another terminal and kill the postinst for the
  installation process to finish.

  sudo apt-get install -f

has re-run the CUPS postinst and this time it finished.

As the phone apps do not yet have a print dialog I needed a print
client on the phone, and also some tools for developing and debugging.
So I have installed cups-client, giving me command line printing and
print admin commands, as lp, lpstat, lpinfo, lpadmin, ...:

  sudo apt-get install cups-client
  [...]
The following NEW packages will be installed:
cups-client cups-common libcupsfilters1 libcupsimage2
0 upgraded, 4 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 368 kB of archives.
After this operation, 2,810 kB of additional disk space will be used.

PID 1 on the phone is still Upstart, Upstart is configured to start
  CUPS on-demand, via

  /etc/init/cups.override

cups.override needs to be corrected, as cupsd does not support the
"-x" option any more, so I have removed the "-x 30" from the cupsd
command line. Now cupsd starts when running commands like

  lpstat -r
  lpstat -v
  ...

  After that I did

  sudo start cups-browsed

to start cups-browsed to get the queues from remote CUPS servers
locally available (level 1 printing stack).

  lpstat -v

shows my printers shared on remote CUPS servers now.

Note that CUPS admin tasks need "sudo" as the "phablet" user is not in
  the "lpadmin" group.

For the printing tests I do the CUPS logging (in
  /var/log/cups/error_log) in debug mode, running

  sudo cupsctl --debug-logging

  sudo cupsctl

  shows my settings.

  Now I print via

  lp -d printer ~/.bashrc

and this works (after the fix of bug 1509423 and after making cups-
browsed use URIs with IP addresses, using cups-filters 1.1.0 and
  setting "IPBasedDeviceURIs On" in /etc/cups/cups-browsed.conf).

with printer being a CUPS queue set up on my laptop and shared there.
It is made available on the phone by cups-browsed. Printing on this
kind of print queues works, so the level-1 printing stack works.

Now I have advanced to the level-2 printing stack, meaning that I also
want to directly (without an additional computer) support native
network printers (IPP printers which understand PostScript, PDF, PCL,
PWG-Raster, IPP Everywhere) with generic drivers and without need of a
  printer setup tool.

For that I installed the packages needed for the level-2 printing
  stack:

  sudo apt-get install cups-core-drivers cups-filters-core-drivers

and I have created two directories which are missing (another bug,
fixed already in the Debian GIT repository of the CUPS package):

  sudo mkdir /etc/cups/ppd
  sudo mkdir /etc/cups/interfaces

Now everything is installed for cups-browsed to be able to create
print queues for said native IPP printers. To actually get cups-
browsed creating such queues we set "CreateIPPPrinterQueues Yes" in
  /etc/cups/cups-browsed.conf and restart cups-browsed.

I have an HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 2540 with WiFi in my network and it
  is discovered as PCL printer.

cups-browsed fails to gain enough data from the printer to auto-create
a PPD file, and so it creates a queue based on

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1160847] Re: gvfs should not attempt to mount MTP devices in an endless loop (cluttering your desktop with messages)

Ubuntu phones have had MTP support for some time so that original instance of
the bug is no longer a problem
I no longer have the rules workarounds, this has been fine for me on both vivid
and wily.
Which ubuntu version and what are you plugging in?

  DESCRIPTION:
I've been trying to track down the cause of the occasional UI freezes on my
Krillin device, and I noticed that whenever the UI freezes for 2-4 seconds, I
get a burst of "PropertiesChanged" signals in dbus-monitor

  Here's a log of what's shown in dbus-monitor:

I'd guess the problem is in the code that actually catches the signals

  HOW TO REPRODUCE:
  1) Move to a place where many wifi hotspots are available
  2) Connect the device via USB and run "phablet-shell" and then "dbus-monitor"
  3) Use the device while keeping an eye on dbus-monitor output

re comment #68 and maliit access networking, from Albert on bug #1515712

as we probably shouldn't be.

It comes from the fact that QtMultimedia uses network transparent
methods to load urls used for audio playing, so even if in the keyboard
we're using a local sound for audio feedback, QtMultimedia ends up
bringing up the network backend because it uses those network
transparent methods.

This is a wishlist bug to eventually remove GTK3 from Ubuntu Phone

  ===TODO===

  -- address-book-service --

address-book-service depends on evolution-data-server, which depends
on GTK3. evolution-data-server further depends on libgweather-3-6 and
libgcr-ui-3-1 which both directly depend on GTK3 too.

Would it be possible to work with libfolks-eds25 and other libraries
alone? Or would it be possible to modify evolution-data-server
building to not depend on GTK3 since we're not using the toolkit
  anyway?

  -- themes (unity-asset-pool, adwaita-icon-theme...) --

  humanity-icon-theme, ubuntu-mono and unity-asset-pool depend on
  adwaita-icon-theme. adwaita-icon-theme directly depends on GTK3.

  -- ubuntu-system-settings --

ubuntu-system-settings depends on libtimezonemap1 which directly
depends on GTK3. Maybe the library could be made not to depend on
  GTK3?

  ===DONE===
  -- gnome-control-center-signon --
Since libaccount-plugin-1.0-0 is included on Ubuntu Phone images, would it be
possible to refactor it so that it would not depend on GTK3 bringing it on the

Bug description:
I have started to test the printing stack of Ubuntu on the phone.

I have a Nexus 4 now to test the printing stack on the phone.

First I have updated the USB-connected phone to the development branch
  of the OS via

  ubuntu-device-flash touch --channel=devel

with the phone booted into Ubuntu and the screen unlocked.

After the reboot of the phone I have run

  phablet-config writable-image

to be able to install packages with apt-get and entered a shell on the
  phone via

  phablet-shell

In the shell I first installed a level-1 printing stack (See
  https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/client-1305-printing-
  stack-with-mobile-in-mind for the levels):

  sudo apt-get install cups-daemon cups-browsed avahi-daemon

This makes the following new packages getting installed:

The following NEW packages will be installed:
avahi-daemon bc bind9-host cups-browsed cups-daemon libavahi-core7
libavahi-glib1 libbind9-90 libcupsmime1 libdaemon0 libdns100 libgeoip1
libisc95 libisccc90 libisccfg90 liblwres90 libpaper1 ssl-cert
0 upgraded, 18 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 1,502 kB of archives.
After this operation, 4,698 kB of additional disk space will be used.

The installation was hanging on the postinst of CUPS, so I had to open
a new shell in another terminal and kill the postinst for the
  installation process to finish.

  sudo apt-get install -f

has re-run the CUPS postinst and this time it finished.

As the phone apps do not yet have a print dialog I needed a print
client on the phone, and also some tools for developing and debugging.
So I have installed cups-client, giving me command line printing and
print admin commands, as lp, lpstat, lpinfo, lpadmin, ...:

  sudo apt-get install cups-client
  [...]
The following NEW packages will be installed:
cups-client cups-common libcupsfilters1 libcupsimage2
0 upgraded, 4 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 368 kB of archives.
After this operation, 2,810 kB of additional disk space will be used.

PID 1 on the phone is still Upstart, Upstart is configured to start
  CUPS on-demand, via

  /etc/init/cups.override

cups.override needs to be corrected, as cupsd does not support the
"-x" option any more, so I have removed the "-x 30" from the cupsd
command line. Now cupsd starts when running commands like

  lpstat -r
  lpstat -v
  ...

  After that I did

  sudo start cups-browsed

to start cups-browsed to get the queues from remote CUPS servers
locally available (level 1 printing stack).

  lpstat -v

shows my printers shared on remote CUPS servers now.

Note that CUPS admin tasks need "sudo" as the "phablet" user is not in
  the "lpadmin" group.

For the printing tests I do the CUPS logging (in
  /var/log/cups/error_log) in debug mode, running

  sudo cupsctl --debug-logging

  sudo cupsctl

  shows my settings.

  Now I print via

  lp -d printer ~/.bashrc

CUPS is now supposed to send the job via IPP (Internet Printing
Protocol) to the remote CUPS server where the printer is actually
connected to. This it does using a backend, a small helper program, in
  our case /usr/lib/cups/backend/ipps.

  Printing does not work yet:

  1. CUPS reports exit status 127 on the ipps backend call ("command not
found", the fact that in error_log you see "file too large" is a CUPS
bug, exit status 127 is "command not found"), but the backend is
called with its full path, the backend is actually present and
executable, no libs missing (checked with "ldd"), the backend works
directly called from the command line.

  2. No name resolution in the local network (avahi problem? avahi-
daemon is running). Manual call of the backend only works if the host
name in the device URI is replaced by the corresponding IP address.

  So following command prints:

  DEVICE_URI=ipps://192.168.0.11:631/printers/printer
  CONTENT_TYPE=text/plain /usr/lib/cups/backend/ipps 1 1 1 1 ""
  ~/.bashrc

  Also

  sudo DEVICE_URI=ipps://192.168.0.11:631/printers/printer
  CONTENT_TYPE=text/plain /usr/lib/cups/backend/ipps 1 1 1 1 ""
  ~/.bashrc

  prints.

To overcome the host name resolution problem I have modified cups-
browsed to create the local queues with IP addresses instead of host
names in the device URIs. So the remeining problem is (1), for which I
  have opened

I was only able to reproduce this on mako/rtm, krillin/vivid seems to
behave better (but I do remember the same issue there).

  Steps:
  * connect to a password-protected WiFi network
  * go out of range
  * make sure a GSM connection is established
  * go back in the WiFi range

  Expected:
  * phone connects to the known WiFi automatically

  Current:
  * phone does not connect to WiFi

The upower cpu consumption is just a side effect of the amount of
battery related events the kernel send, and specific to mako.

  -- address-book-service --

address-book-service depends on evolution-data-server, which depends
on GTK3. evolution-data-server further depends on libgweather-3-6 and
libgcr-ui-3-1 which both directly depend on GTK3 too.

Would it be possible to work with libfolks-eds25 and other libraries
alone? Or would it be possible to modify evolution-data-server
building to not depend on GTK3 since we're not using the toolkit
  anyway?

  -- themes (unity-asset-pool, adwaita-icon-theme...) --

  humanity-icon-theme, ubuntu-mono and unity-asset-pool depend on
  adwaita-icon-theme. adwaita-icon-theme directly depends on GTK3.

  -- ubuntu-system-settings --

ubuntu-system-settings depends on libtimezonemap1 which directly
depends on GTK3. Maybe the library could be made not to depend on
  GTK3?

  ===DONE===
  -- gnome-control-center-signon --
Since libaccount-plugin-1.0-0 is included on Ubuntu Phone images, would it be
possible to refactor it so that it would not depend on GTK3 bringing it on the

Bug description:
NetworkManager incorrectly uses GPRS contexts from any SIM directory

This bug was discovered on krillin while trying to determine whether
bug #1425987 was a duplicate of bug #1418077.

I've attached the NetworkManager log messages extracted from the
syslog contained in the network-test-session tarball attached to bug
  #1425987.

If you look at the attached netlog, after '/208150102671184/context1'
is disabled, you'll see NM try a 'context3', 'context5', and
'context1' again. The odd thing is that the related IMSI is not
  '208150102671184' it's '208103698221268'. Looking at network-test-
  session.log ( also attached ), you'll see that '208150102671184' is
the IMSI for ril_0, and that ril_1 is PIN-locked.

This bug was discovered on krillin running vivid-proposed #122.

The version of NetworkManager on this image is: 0.9.10.0-4ubuntu6

Just change the volume quickly when playing a sound, and you can hear
really small cracking sounds as the volume increases/decreases. This
is even more noticeable with Pathwind's (touch game) soundtrack.

Not critical for the user experience but can be a bit annoying.

Remember that here pulse is only changing the volume for the
multimedia role itself (or any other active role used when reproducing
the bug). Not really touching the hardware.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1443178] Re: Accounts Service always relies on language fallback if never set by the user

  [Impact]

Until a user has set the language or regional formats explicitly,
accountsservice makes the system default values available. The code
for 'calculating' the system defaults is expensive, and it's triggered
frequently. The case in the original description of this bug report is
one example of bad performance for this reason. Another example is a
system with many users (see e.g. bug #1350393).

This upload adds a couple of static variables inside the function in
question, to avoid that the expensive code is executed at each
invocation. Under certain conditions this improves the performance
  significantly.

  [Test Case]

Hmm.. There is no easy use case to reproduce the bug. The original
  description below gives a hint.

  [Regression Potential]

On a multi-user system, if the system defaults in /etc/default/locale
are changed, accountsservice will keep providing the old system
default values until the system is rebooted. (Previously it took
effect instantly.) I think the advantages with the proposed change
outweigh this subtle change in behavior (which hardly anyone will
  notice anyway).

Can't think of anything besides that.

  [Original description]

  current build number: 169
  device name: mako
  channel: ubuntu-touch/devel-proposed
  alias: ubuntu-touch/vivid-proposed
  last update: 2015-04-12 20:38:14
  version version: 169

  version custom: 20150412

This causes a bad side effect when changing volume via indicator-
sound, as that will cause a sync to accountsservice in order to sync
the volume. Once that sync happens, it will request the user
properties, and in case the user doesn't have a valid language at
/var/lib/AccountsService/users/, it will always rely on the
fallback, which would be fine if calculating the fallback wasn't 't so
cpu or i/o intensive (and that happens multiple times).

As a test, just flash latest vivid image on mako, don't set any
language when the wizard shows up, run top and then change the volume
by pressing volume up/down. This is what I see with mako:

   PID USER PR NIVIRTRESSHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
  2609 phablet 20 0 499660 121220 52688 S 7.6 6.5 0:41.69 unity8
  5600 phablet 20 03676 1760 1288 R 6.0 0.1 0:00.19

  1312 root 20 0 211532 15572 11344 S 1.9 0.8 0:07.25
unity-system-co
  1316 phablet 20 0 36532 3792 2928 S 1.3 0.2 0:01.66
accounts-daemon

  And the reason why:
  src/user.c
  ...
  static void
  user_get_property (GObject*object,
     guint param_id,
     GValue *value,
     GParamSpec *pspec)
  {
  User *user = USER (object);
  ...
  case PROP_LANGUAGE:
  if (user->language)
  g_value_set_string (value, user->language);
  else
  g_value_set_string (value, user_get_fallback_value
(user, "Language"));
  break;
  case PROP_FORMATS_LOCALE:
  if (user->formats_locale)
  g_value_set_string (value, user->formats_locale);
  else
  g_value_set_string (value, user_get_fallback_value
(user, "FormatsLocale"));
  break;

user_set_property never gets called unless the user changes the system
  language from system-settings or wizard.

Once you change the language, it will set a valid language at
/var/lib/AccountsService/users/, causing this behavior to stop.

Another bad side effect of this issue is that it takes quite a while
for accountsservice to reply back to indicator-sound when the sync
happens, possibly causing sync aborts (as indicator-sound only waits 1
  second before triggering another sync).

Some possible ways to fix this issue:
  1) Make wizard to set language even when the selected language is already the
default one;
  2) Change accountsservice to save the fallback value at the first time it
gets that from the system;

My ISP (Free in France) provides a hotspot service so that customers
can use the connection of any other customer using a generic open Wifi
connection (for reference http://www.free.fr/assistance/2303.html - in
  French)

The SSID is called 'FreeWifi' on all the boxes but obviously APs are
all different since it's customers' DSL routers.

When I connect to one of this access point, suspend the phone and
resume it in another location where the SSID is available but from a
different AP, the phone doesn't connect to this AP and the list of
networks in the network-indicator doesn't refresh and still show the
list of network from the previous location. I have to forget the
network called 'FreeWifi' and reconnect in order to refresh the list
  and make it work.

  It's 100% reproducible.

Title:
Phone plays music via bluetooth instead of recently connected headset

Status in Canonical System Image:
  Confirmed
Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Prerequisite:
  1. The phone can play music via a car's bluetooth stereo.
  2. Be in car and let the phone connect to it by bluetooth.

  Reproduce:
Connect the phone to a headset via jack

  What happens:
No music plays in the headset

  What should happen:
The headset should play music; or I should be able to select where the music
should be played.

  * Note that the music was actually played _nowhere_, but I know that
it tried to play it via bluetooth since by disconnecting the headset
sound was not played through the phone speakers.

  : "Whenever headphones
or a headset are connected, they should be the primary output for as
  long as they are connected."

  Hi

On a BQ Aquaris 5 with Ubuntu Touch 15.04 (r4), my alarm volume is
somehow (not by me directly) set to nil; when the alarm goes off, the
phone only vibrates; during, or after the event, I try to change the
  volume, without success.

This seems to mimic the noise settings related to the phone ringing
(which I had set to no volume, and vibrating).

  Best Regards,

I'm not sure 100% this is a bug but it is related to
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/+bug/1478506

When the "Marron in trouble" games launches a sound the multimedia
sink it's updated and when reading the volume it's always 100%.

I'ts not 100% for other applications using the multimedia role, like
the music app or other games/apps. The volume in that case is in sync
with the volume that was previously set for it.

This is the code from the indicator-sound where we get the 100%
  volume.

  var props_variant = yield _pconn.call
("org.PulseAudio.Ext.StreamRestore1.RestoreEntry",
sink_input_objp,
"org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties", "Get",
new Variant ("(ss)",
"org.PulseAudio.Ext.StreamRestore1.RestoreEntry", "Volume"),
null, DBusCallFlags.NONE, -1);
Variant tmp;
props_variant.get ("(v)", out tmp);
uint32 type = 0, volume = 0;
VariantIter iter = tmp.iterator ();
iter.next ("(uu)", &type, &volume);

On the phone images the space required for the lists in
/var/lib/apt/lists is excessive (around 70MB) for the device targets
we have. The partition it currently resides in did not include this
requirement when their size was specified.

Removing those prevents one from using apport-cli to report bugs about
packages that are from the -updates pocket. This is due to the fact
that apport will not allow one to report bugs about packages which it
cannot determine are from the official archive or a native origin PPA.

Possible solutions include generating the list dynamically as part of
the writable partition or including a smaller simpler manifest.

This report was inspired by bug #1471903

When connecting multiple bluetooth audio devices the audio routing
  doesn't behave as it should.

When multiple devices are connected which support A2DP for example we
  have to

  * Pick one which becomes the active one
  * When the active one disappears (disconnected, out-of-range) we need to pick
the next one and set it as the active

Right now the result is not constant when connecting multiple devices:

  * bluez and PA (mainly PA) try to setup all devices not respecting if one is
already active
  * when disconnecting the active one the previously not-active one doesn't
become active and stays unused

Also we need to check if telepathy-ofono takes always the right audio
card from PA to setup the audio routing for voicecalls.

When playing audio through A2DP and a call comes in, gets accepted and
finishes after some time the multimedia audio will start again after
the call but is played for half of a second either through the phone
speaker or HFP SCO channel rather than only being played again through
A2DP as it was before the call.

This happens with BlueZ 4.x and 5.x and is related to how we handle
  the audio routing setup currently.

The telepathy-ofono service currently switches the different ports,
sinks, sources and profiles of our PulseAudio elements to enable
everything needed to do a voicecall and to switch things back
correctly once the voicecall is done. The issue described above is the
result of either a incorrect sequence of enabling/disbling things or
bound to timing issues when the switching is done.

We need to do some more analysis on the routing in PulseAudio and how
  telepathy-ofono does things.

I keep on receiving bug reports about Machines vs. Machines being

When playing without sound effects enabled, the game seems very
  stable.

To get to the bottom of this I created an app that simulates a bit how
a game works with sound effects. It's a bit more aggressive than
Machines-vs-Machines (still not really far fetched from a real game
scenario) and reliably triggers some crashers in less than a minute
  here.

So far I've seen crashes in creating SoundEffects items as well as
  removing them from the scene.

Please find the example here: lp:~mzanetti/+junk/soundcrasher

You should be able to run it on any vivid powered device by just
opening the .pro file in QtCreator and hit the play button. The logs
vary a lot between crashes. Sometimes I get some PulseAudio messages,
sometimes it just crashes without any. Probably some raciness. Anyhow,
this example app should give the system a hard time and reveal most of
  the crashes eventually.

Bug description:
After bug #1224756 is fixed, we should provide a visual cue for when
an app moves to the background and is recording audio. This will allow
an app like Skype to work normally in the foreground, but if the user
launches another app into the foreground, the user is able to see that
he/she is still on the Skype call. In addition to the usability
benefit, this provides a security benefit because it stops
eavesdropping because the user will have a visual cue that the
  malicious/misbehaving app is recording audio.

  This needs design.

Ubuntu Touch devices are using cellular DNS servers over wifi
  connection

Status in Canonical System Image:
  Confirmed
Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu RTM:

Bug description:
On my Nexus 4, build 121 with TMobile, when I am on wifi, I correctly
get a 192.168 ip and DNS entries for this network (on wlan0) -- fine.
When I am in range of cellular data, I get an ip address from TMobile
and am given DNS entries that aren't on the same network as the
TMobile ip address (on rmnet_usb0). The problem is, the DNS entries
from TMobile are preferred over the ones from the wifi network such
that while wlan0 is correctly setup as the default route, DNS queries
are being made to the TMobile DNS servers over wlan0 because there are
no explicit routes to these servers. This is problematic because the
remote DNS server may not respond to queries coming from out of
network or site policy may disallow the use of foreign DNS servers--
both of which result in slow (or possibly failing) DNS queries since
the cellular DNS is checked first. Also, where it did work, these
queries could incur charges when the user is intending to use only
wifi. In the case of (at least) TMobile, this could be a security
concern because the well-known TMobile DNS servers are on the private
'10.' network, which opens the possibility for a rogue DNS server to
be on the private wifi network with this ip address.

This could be fixed in (at least) four ways:
   1) when on wifi, don't merge the DNS servers on cellular networks at all
which forces the device to use the ones available on the site (wlan0). This is
guaranteed to not incur changes
   2) when on wifi, merge the DNS server from the cellular network, but add
them after the ones on the wifi network. This will try the site's DNS first and
only if they fail, fallback to the cellular DNS. This may incur charges under
certain circumstances
   3) add an explicit route to the cellular DNS servers through rmnet_usb0.
This will bypass the site DNS with all queries going through cellular DNS. This
will incur charges and would make the device unable to resolve site-local names.
   4) same as '2', but also add explicit routes for the cellular name servers.
This should only incur charges if wifi DNS fails

I think '3' is out. '2' and '4' seems most intuitive (with '4' perhaps
most correct). '1' seems also ok.

This is a follow up from bug 1473562.

When there are too many crash files, that the size of the crash files
is large, and the device becomes utterly slow or unresponsive while
the files are uploaded. It the same scenario than the bug in reference
fixed in previous OTA but with different symptoms.

  Workaround:
  1. Disable wifi
  2. Enable developer mode
  3. Connect to the device with adb
  4. Clean up the crash directory
  $ sudo rm /var/crash/_*

This is a wishlist bug to eventually remove GTK3 from Ubuntu Phone
  images to save some space.

  ===TODO===

  -- address-book-service --

address-book-service depends on evolution-data-server, which depends
on GTK3. evolution-data-server further depends on libgweather-3-6 and
libgcr-ui-3-1 which both directly depend on GTK3 too.

Would it be possible to work with libfolks-eds25 and other libraries
alone? Or would it be possible to modify evolution-data-server
building to not depend on GTK3 since we're not using the toolkit
  anyway?

  -- themes (unity-asset-pool, adwaita-icon-theme...) --

  humanity-icon-theme, ubuntu-mono and unity-asset-pool depend on
  adwaita-icon-theme. adwaita-icon-theme directly depends on GTK3.

  -- ubuntu-system-settings --

ubuntu-system-settings depends on libtimezonemap1 which directly
depends on GTK3. Maybe the library could be made not to depend on
  GTK3?

  ===DONE===
  -- gnome-control-center-signon --
Since libaccount-plugin-1.0-0 is included on Ubuntu Phone images, would it be
possible to refactor it so that it would not depend on GTK3 bringing it on the
images?
