[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1759300] Re: Gnome Shell: Touchpad right click (bottom right) area does not work
This is viewed as a confusing regression by a portion of the userbase[0]. God knows it destroyed my workflow (and morning) when I updated to 18.04 from 16.04. For some of us 'old farts' who never use macs and always relied on the "areas" behavior in both Linux and Windows it would be helpful to have been told that the behavior changed and how to change it back, or simply just asked, on installation, which option you want. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1603183] Re: Bottom right area of touchpad no longer treated as right click
@vanvugt I think this is still a big problem lots of 16.04 -> 18.04 upgraders will run into. This one blew my mind after installing 18.04 today. If this is going to be the new default, we need to warn users, because those of us not using Apple/ChromeOS hardware *expect* clickpads to work like they have for a decade now so it feels like an Ubuntu regression / issue. The easier solution may be to do a little bit of hardware detection before Ubuntu configures this one for the users, and set the relevant hardware accordingly (Apple/ChromeOs->"fingers"; Dell/Lenovo/Etc->"areas"). Currently (18.04), the easy fix for this is to set: $ gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.peripherals.touchpad click-method areas My bug 1767383 is almost certainly a dupe of this one (sorry, I was originally searching for it against the old driver), but I'll let someone else decide that. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gsettings-ubuntu-touch-schemas in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1603183 Title: Bottom right area of touchpad no longer treated as right click Status in Canonical System Image: Fix Released Status in Mir: Triaged Status in gsettings-ubuntu-touch-schemas package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in libinput package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in mir package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in unity8-desktop-session package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in webbrowser-app package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Using the touchpad I was not able to trigger any right click (with a single finger in the bottom right area), and I tought it was a problem of how unity8 handled the right clicks. Instead I just tried with a mouse and right click trigger different actions from left clicks. In the end the problem is that my touchpad right click is considered a left click by the system. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1767383] Re: touchpad right+click not working
After some additional troubleshooting, I've decided this is reported to the wrong package. Switching that. The fix for me here was to set: $ gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.peripherals.touchpad click-method areas It appears that libinput defaulted my computer on reinstall of Ubuntu to the Apple/Mac style 1-2-3 finger alt-clicking. I think that is a great default *for Apple computers*, but a poor one for devices like this Dell where the traditional behavior is that of a 'clickpad', i.e., where you right+click by physically clicking on the bottom right of the touchpad. My suggested fix would be to detect the appropriate vendor and change click-method accordingly (Dell/Lenovo/Other->"areas"; Apple->"fingers"). Otherwise, we need to train users what to do, because this is *entirely unexpected* behavior from anyone who doesn't use a Mac computer. ** Also affects: libinput (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1767383 Title: touchpad right+click not working Status in libinput package in Ubuntu: New Status in xserver-xorg-input-synaptics package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: - Freshly installed 18.04 (from 16.04, in which everything was working great). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 971880] Re: go on line to edit your personal information
After further investigation, I discovered a work-around. The problem appears to be the result of an upgrade from a time where gnome-online-accounts was used in ubuntu. My google account was added there, and the ghosts of that addition seem to have echoed into 12.04 -- where that package is no longer included by default, it seems. My workaround: Install gnome-contacts: sudo apt-get install gnome-contacts Open gnome contacts: gnome-contacts In the GUI that opens, select Accounts button, then delete the account from the resulting menu. That causes the ghost to vanish in empathy. You can now safely delete gnome-contacts. ** Changed in: empathy (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Invalid ** Summary changed: - go on line to edit your personal information + Empathy: Go on line to edit your personal information ** Tags added: empathy gnome-contacts gnome-online-accounts -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to empathy in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/971880 Title: Empathy: Go on line to edit your personal information Status in “empathy” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: I keep deleting a duplicate Google talk profile, but it reappears and I cant change the paramiters, it says "go on line to edit your personal profile" it will not let me just disable it. I re-opened this because I am experiencing the same problem. :~$ uname -a Linux x200 3.2.0-26-generic #41-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jun 14 17:49:24 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux This may be difficult to reproduce, because I am not sure how the "ghost account" got there. When it is deleted, it re-appears on restart. This maintains the behavior through a complete uninstall/reinstall of empathy too. I removed the ~/.config/empathy/ folder too, let me know if there is another config I can try to delete...
