[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2051383] Re: gnome-shell high CPU utilization when moving a high frequency mouse

2024-02-27 Thread Sergey Zolotarev
To answer your first question: I'm testing on a freshly booted system
with no applications running.

Regarding extensions:

After I disable the Desktop Icons NG extension (appears to be one of the
built-ins), peak CPU usage for gnome-shell goes from ~55% to ~35% when
moving over an empty desktop. When moving over an application such as
gnome-terminal, CPU usage for gnome-shell increases to ~60% both with
and without this extension (and also gnome-terminal itself consumes
about 25%).

Besides that I have Ubuntu Dock and Ubuntu AppIndicators - disabling
them didn't affect CPU usage.

evtest output attached.

It seems to also track mouse movement when playing games in full-screen
mode which reduces FPS. Is this normal?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2051383] Re: gnome-shell high CPU utilization when moving a high frequency mouse

2024-02-04 Thread Sergey Zolotarev
I've noticed that at some point gnome-shell starts consuming twice that
amount of CPU resources when moving my mouse over the desktop, reaching
nearly 100%, i.e. to the point where the desktop experience is not good.

I'm not sure what it is that I do that triggers is. I've experienced
this 2 or 3 times in the last week.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2051383] Re: gnome-shell high CPU utilization when moving mouse cursor

2024-01-29 Thread Sergey Zolotarev
1. Nope, the log is normal, nothing new is logged when moving the cursor
around

2. Razer DeathAdder V2. BTW switching to 60 Hz doesn't seem to change
anything. However, switching to an old cheap mouse decreases gnome-
shell's CPU usage down to ~10%.

3. Unfortunately that didn't help. I also had this line in my
/etc/environment before:

MUTTER_DEBUG_ENABLE_ATOMIC_KMS=0

Tried both with and without it.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2051383] Re: gnome-shell high CPU utilization when moving mouse cursor

2024-01-29 Thread Sergey Zolotarev
I'm sorry, the 20% part was a bit of an overstatement, after observing
more I can say it's somewhere between 1% to 5%.

I have the following extensions active:
- Desktop Icons NG
- Ubuntu AppIndicators
- Ubuntu Dock

Disabling all extensions didn't change anything in my case.

Also I've noticed an interesting thing: when moving the cursor, CPU
usage goes up for gnome-shell AND for whatever process on top of whose
window I"m moving it. For example, if a Text Editor window is active, it
goes up for the gedit process.

If it helps, below are a few screenshots of "top" taken when I moved my
mouse, with Xorg and Wayland for comparison, and a video.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2046808] [NEW] Screencast app crashes after recording is stopped

Public bug reported:

That was me pressing a button, correct. The lock screen does not appear
by itself for me.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1926398] [NEW] Nautilus doesn't show folder name in Operations dialog

2021-04-27 Thread Sergey Zolotarev
Public bug reported:

When I copy a directory from one disk to another, Nautilus won't show
its name next to the progress bar. It simply says "Copying N files to
diskName".

I think it should say something like: "Copying N files in directoryName
to diskName".

Reason:

When you copy 2 big directories with a lot of files to the same
destination and want to know which one is which, you can't differentiate
between them since the directory name is not shown. If you want to
cancel one of them, you also don't know which X button to click.

See my attached screenshot.

Title:
Nautilus doesn't show folder name in Operations dialog

Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
When I copy a directory from one disk to another, Nautilus won't show
its name next to the progress bar. It simply says "Copying N files to
  diskName".

I think it should say something like: "Copying N files in
  directoryName to diskName".

  Reason:

When you copy 2 big directories with a lot of files to the same
destination and want to know which one is which, you can't
differentiate between them since the directory name is not shown. If
you want to cancel one of them, you also don't know which X button to
  click.

  See my attached screenshot.

ls -ld /dev/shm:

It seems that Brasero is working now even if remove the s bit for
/usr/bin/wodim, not sure why, so I guess there is nothing to fix.

Thanks.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1437411] [NEW] Keyboard layout indicator shows wrong layout

2015-03-27 Thread Sergey Zolotarev
Public bug reported:

I have two keyboard layous: English (en) and Russian (ru).

The problem is that when I switch to either of those via the keyboard
shortcut (Alt+Shift in my case), the layout indicator shows the opposite
layout. That is, I'm typing English letters, but it shows ru;
likewise, when it shows en the input language is actually Russian.

If I switch laoyout through the indicator itself, the language is set
correctly.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1244158] Re: GNOME: Modifiers Only keyboard layout switch have no effect

2014-09-04 Thread Sergey Zolotarev
Still having this problem in gnome 3.12.2 :(

Is there anything we can do to help fix this?

Title:
GNOME: Modifiers Only keyboard layout switch have no effect

Status in “gnome-settings-daemon” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After setting up Alt+Shift keys to change the keyboard layout (via
gnome-tweak-tool or via gnome control center), these key combinations
do not provide the expected result.

  Expected Result:
Keyboard layout is changed and keyboard indicator display updates

  Actual Result:
Only keyboard indicator display updates, leaving the actual keyboard
indicator in English.

I have English-Hebrew keyboard layout configured with alt+shift for layout
switching.
Once the layout is on Hebrew, alt+shift switches back to English properly.
Once the layout is on English, alt+shift changes the keyboard indicator to
he, but actually the systems layout is still English.
At this point, pressing Alt+Shift results in changes to the indicator display
only, resulting in no actual layout switches.

If Allow different sources for each window is selected in Input Sources
Options then:
  - Changing the layout to Hebrew.
  - Alt-Tab to another window with a different layout.
  - Alt-Tab back, allows me to type back in Hebrew.

  When Alt+Shift switches to English:
  $ setxkbmap -query
  rules: evdev
  model: pc105
  layout: us
  options:compose:caps,terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp,grp:alt_shift_toggle

  When Alt+Shift switches to Hebrew:
  $ setxkbmap -query
  rules: evdev
  model: pc105
  layout: il,us
  variant:,
  options:compose:caps,terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp,grp:alt_shift_toggle

Which seems right. But still when typing, English chars are being
  typed.

I tried this with the packages from the official repos, gnome-ppa, and
ppa:attente/1218322 as described here:

http://askubuntu.com/questions/356357/how-to-use-altshift-combo-to-switch-keyboard-layout-in-13-10
  All with the same effect.

  Ubuntu 13.10
  gnome-settings-daemon 3.8.5-0ubuntu9

I fixed this by installing unity-greeter and manually editing
/etc/lightdm/lighdm.conf (greeter-session was empty for some reason, I
had to set it to unity-greeter).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1244158] Re: GNOME: Modifiers Only keyboard layout switch have no effect

2013-12-04 Thread Sergey Zolotarev
I don't know if this is the same issue but recently this started getting
even worse:

1. default input language for some reason is not English
2. as a consequence, the LED lights on when I switch to English (should be the
other way around)
3. Alt + Space doesn't work anymore (should switch to next input source but
doesn't switch anything)
4. switching language via indicator doesn't work

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1090926] Re: Alt/Shift key not released after keyboard layout switch

2013-06-03 Thread Sergey Zolotarev
Are you going to fix this? It started to occur even more frequently,
like 80% of the time, and it's really, REALLY annoying!

BTW it happens when I switch the layout in reverse direction too, i.e.
back to English. And it doesn't look like my PC's fault because
everything is OK with the keyboard when I use Windows...

Alt/Shift key not released after keyboard layout switch

Status in “xserver-xorg-input-evdev” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Sometimes after I change keyboard layout with Alt+Shift the Alt key
somehow is not recognized as being released which leads to very
frustrating effects like losing all form-fill data in Firefox because
you press the Home key while typing. The worst thing is that even
after this the key still remains unreleased after multiple keypresses
like if I'm holding it all the time!

Same goes for the Shift key - it feels like you suddenly pressed Caps
Lock but the LED indicator is not turned on. This happens in
  Ctrl+Shift mode as well.

  Ubuntu 12.10 x86_64
