[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1948599] [NEW] Nautilus icon missing from taskbar (21.10; Xorg)
Public bug reported: Upgraded to 21.10. I am using Ubuntu Tweaks to set a bottom of screen taskbar. Nautilus (Files) was pinned to the taskbar. I discovered that Waland was incompatible with my graphics card, so switched to Xorg. I think at this point the Files icon disappeared (and just possibly some others I have not noticed). I can launch Nautilus from the launcher, but the icon does not appear. Nautilus version 1:40.2-1ubuntu1 Expected behaviour 1: The pinned icon would remain visible on the taskbar. Observed behaviour 1: The pinned icon disappeared from the taskbar. Expected behaviour 2: When Nautilus is open the icon will be visible on the taskbar. Observed behaviour 2: When Nautilus is open the icon is not visible on the taskbar. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1577701] Re: Cannot use external monitor
Seeing as the log file refers to a failure to open '/home/simon/.local/share/recently-used.xbel' I looked that file up. Using 'sudo nautilus' to open a file manager I found it and opened it: it reads as below the line of asterisks. I looked at its permissions and it states: Owner - Root - Read and write Group - Root - none Others - none Allow executing file as program - not checked. Security context - unknown I then opened a normal "files" window and opened the file with gedit - which struck me as odd because it has covered with locked icons - and it now does not have locked icons, and reports its permissions as: Owner - Me - Read and write Group - Simon - none Others - none Allow executing file as program - not checked. Security context - unknown I am user 'Simon'. * * * * * * * * * * * http://www.freedesktop.org/standards/desktop-bookmarks; xmlns:mime="http://www.freedesktop.org/standards/shared-mime-info; > http://freedesktop.org;> gedit -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to unity-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1577701 Title: Cannot use external monitor Status in unity-control-center package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I am running an HP 455 G2 Laptop, AMD A series A8-7100 1.8 GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, 15.6" Display, DVDRW, AMD Radeon R5, Webcam, Bluetooth with Ubuntu 16.04; upgraded from 15.10. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1577710] [NEW] USB Mouse has to be unplugged and replugged in to work
Public bug reported: General info: What is the full manufacturer and model of your mouse - Not known: generic USB unbranded mouse How is your mouse connected to your PC: serial, PS/2, USB, USB wireless, etc. - USB What mechanism does your mouse use: roller ball, optical, trackball, etc. - Optical How many physical buttons and scrollwheels does you mouse have? - 2 buttons; one wheel (which also functions as centre button) Two problems: When plugged in the mouse is detected and starts working. After shut down and restart, it does not work. If then unplugged and plugged in it works perfectly again. A second issue is that it works only if plugged into the USB 3.0 ports on the left side of the laptop. It does not work in the USB 2.0 ports on the right side of the machine. When running 15.10 it worked in any USB port and did not need to be unplugged and re-plugged to work. Machine is HP 455 G2 Laptop, AMD A series A8-7100 1.8 GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, 15.6" Display, DVDRW, AMD Radeon R5, Webcam, Bluetooth. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1577701] [NEW] Cannot use external monitor
Public bug reported: I am running an HP 455 G2 Laptop, AMD A series A8-7100 1.8 GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, 15.6" Display, DVDRW, AMD Radeon R5, Webcam, Bluetooth with Ubuntu 16.04; upgraded from 15.10. Under 15.10 I connected and used an acer vga monitor. After the upgrade to 16.10 the second monitor has no display. Steps to reproduce: Disconnect monitor; restart computer. Enter "Screen Display". confirm only one (internal) monitor is shown. Connect monitor. Click "detect displays". Monitor is detected and shown in grey (screenshot 1) Select acer monitor; click "on" at slider. (screenshot 2) Click "Apply". No display on acer monitor. Click "Keep this configuration". Still no display on acer monitor, however mouse is not held at edge of laptop screen - ie the computer thinks the external display is in use. Also windows can be pushed entirely into the extended desktop (but are then, obviously, not visible). The little indicator light on the monitor switch remains in the amber "no signal" condition. Now click "power > shut down > shut down" As computer shuts down the purple screen with line of dots lighting up appears on BOTH the built in screen AND the external screen. On restart, the computer still thinks the external screen exists and is active, but there is no display. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1385457] Re: Show desktop shows remains of previous windows not wallpaper
Have added xorg edgers ppa repository, and am now using the correct nvidia driver 340.46. (see http://www.binarytides.com/install-nvidia-drivers-ubuntu-14-04/). Problem persists. Addition symptom - unchanged - is that when first logging on there is a period of grace during which the windows do clear away properly when closed or minimised - about two or three minutes. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1385457 Title: Show desktop shows remains of previous windows not wallpaper Status in “xorg” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Using show desktop should clear all windows away to show clear wallpaper.
