Bug description:
  Binary package hint: xfwm4

On Xubuntu 9.10, I turned raise on click to off. This works as
expected with most applications _except_ when I right-mouse-click on
an unfocused FF window. In that case, FF pops to front.

  Reproduce:
  1. Install Xubuntu 9.10
  2. In my X session, I go to panel's Applications menu--Settings--Window
Manager
  3. Choose the Focus tab.
  4. Turn off Raise on click (uncheck it)
  5. Open a Firefox window.
  6. Open Thunar or Terminal or Mousepad or Gnumeric (etc.) and make it a
smaller window that is on top of or in front of FF.
  7. Give the smaller app the focus and make in front.
  8. RMB click on FF.
BUG: Firefox window is given focus _and_ is raised to front.
Expected: No window focus should occur. No bring to front should occur.

  --- additional information ---

  * I only experience this problem when right-clicking FF when _another_ app
initially has the focus.
  * The bug does _not_ occur when right-clicking a non-FF window if FF
initially has the focus.
  * The bug does _not_ occur when right-clicking a _different_ FF window that
is below. (That is, the RMB context menu pops up in the correct place and no
window focus changes and no window raises occur.)

Title:
Full screen zoom fails in Chromium

Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in unity package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I'm not sure if this is a Unity issue or an editor issue, but the same
problem on 2 different editors would suggest the former. Open either
of these editors. Double-click on the title bar to zoom. (Once you do
this, you may never again be able to shrink the window again, beyond a
small fractional amount, because you will never again be able to reach
the bottom border with the up-and-down resize arrow; you would need
  to reinstall the OS!)

Zoom works fine. Now close the editor.

Launch it again. This time, it tries to come up zoomed, which makes
sense because that was its most recent state. But the last line of
text at the bottom of the screen shows through. (In other words, it
would be a full-screen zoom, but the last line is still the desktop
background.) So you need to double-click on the title bar twice, once
to shrink and another time to zoom again. The second time, it actually
zooms correctly. When you open another file or repeat the experiment,
you need to quadruple-click all over again.

In addition to being very awkward, this is actually quite confusing,
because if you have zoomed and unzoomed editor windows open, the last
line of text from document A shows up at the bottom of document B.

This problem did not happen on i386 12.04 several months ago. Sorry, I
no longer have the specific details. Anyway, it happens now on AMD64
12.04. Reinstalling the OS fixed it for a few sessions. Then it
happened again. Perhaps zooming triggers it.

I have some sense that this bug relates to the fact that Unity has its
own title bar at the top, so somehow the editor is getting the wrong
idea about how big full-screen really is.

The reinstall-the-OS-to-resize issue is perhaps another bug, but I'm
not going to open another report at the moment because I suspect that
it's due to the same root cause.

  lightdm-gtk-greeter 1.1.5-0ubuntu1

  * Run...
  dm-tool lock
  Press alt-ctrl-f7

Now I'm back in without a password.

  Same with switch-to-greeter

I don't know if it's supposed to be this way or it's a security problem.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
As of Firefox version 36, the -remote commandline parameter was dropped.
This parameter is used in versions of exo prior to 0.10.3. Because of this,
opening any URLs via exo-open will cause a new firefox window to launch at the
home screen.

As reported, this affects the terminal, ubuntu-bug, xchat, and
  numerous other applications.

  [Test Case]
  1. Set Firefox as the default web browser in Preferred Applications.
  2. From a terminal, type the following:

  exo-open http://www.xfce.org;

  Expected: Firefox opens at http://www.xfce.org
Actual: Firefox opens at the home page.

  [Regression Potential]
No regressions by this change. This fixes the application call to correctly
open URLs.

  ---

  [Original Report]
When I click a link from an email it does not work any more.

Instead of opening the link in a new tab, Firefox opens a new empty
window and does not follow the link.

If I change the default browser for my desktop from Firefox to Chrome,
then Chrome can open the link fine.

I have started seeing this today since firefox was upgraded from v35
  to 36.

My email client is Mozilla thunderbird at the latest stable version.

Firefox, Chromium. However in Ristretto the blue line is not clipped

is pretty simple, with just one clip rectangle.

It seems there are a few image viewers with this problem including
Ristretto but also gpicview, comix, gthumb. I'm not sure why they all

Title:
Two Chromium background instances and a browser window open on boot
  without my permission

Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid
Status in xfce4-session package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
When I log into my user session (type in my password on the login
prompt after boot), Chromium auto-starts, and two instances of its
background process automatically open: per the attached image, two
Chromium icons appear in the top bar. Also, an instance of the browser
appears in the middle of the screen.

When this happens, I get an inconsistent browsing experince in
Chromium, where it is randomly unable to connect to web sites or
download components referenced by web pages (e.g., CSS files, JS
  files, etc.).

I can fix by closing the browser and also both the background
  sessions, then restarting Chromium.

I have never configured Chromium to start up when I log into my
session. This has happened without my explicit permission or consent.

If I go to Session and Startup's Application Autostart tab, Chromium
appears in the list and is checked. I did not configure this.

Expected behavior: No part of Chromium opens at all, not even a
background process, until I launch the browser for the first time.

I am using a copy of Xubuntu 13.04 that was upgraded from Xubuntu
12.10. This problem was happening for several weeks back with Xubuntu
  12.10, too.

Title:
Resizing X frame is slow in Xubuntu when compositing is enabled

Status in emacs24 package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  My environment:

  - Xubuntu 14.04 (fresh installed)
  - emacs24: 24.3+1-2ubuntu1
  - xorg: 1:7.7+1ubuntu8
  - Xorg driver: intel

  Problem:

When display compositing is enabled, resizing X frame of Emacs is
slow, i.e., the frame cannot follow the cursor smoothly.

  How to reproduce:

  - Make sure display compisting is enabled.

  $ xfce4-settings-manager
  Select Window Manager Tweaks
  Select Compositor tab
  Check Enable display compositing

  - Start Emacs in window mode

  $ emacs -q

  - Resize the Emacs frame by dragging the frame edge.

  Workaround:

  Disable display compisiting.

xdg-open doesn't use desktop file to open image/jpeg files

Status in xdg-utils package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
xdg-open is not using the appropriate desktop file to open files with
mimetype image/jpeg. Here's what it should use in my installation:

  paulo@monk:~$ xdg-mime query default image/jpeg
  geeqie.desktop

and here's the relevant section from
  /usr/share/applications/geeqie.desktop:

  paulo@monk:~$ grep -i exec /usr/share/applications/geeqie.desktop
  Exec=geeqie -r %F

I confirmed that there was no local geeqie.desktop:

  paulo@monk:~$ ls ~/.local/share/applications/ | grep geeqie.desktop
  paulo@monk:~$

However, I can see xdg-open is opening image/jpeg files by running:

  geeqie %F

because geeqie doesn't dettach itself from the terminal, and this is
the message it shows on the terminal:

  paulo@monk:~/foto$ xdg-open 1ª\ comunhã.jpg
  Could not init LIRC support

I can also see that Thunar uses the correct desktop file: if I click
on a jpeg file inside Thunar, geeqie is started and dettaches itself,
and the upstart log confirms that the geeqie.desktop Exec line was
  indeed called:

  paulo@monk:~$ grep -i geeqie ~/.cache/upstart/startxfce4.log
Remote Geeqie not running, starting...Could not init LIRC support

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1388922] Re: xdg-open doesn't properly detect XFCE DE

2015-01-31 Thread Thaddaeus Tintenfisch
Filipe, I have applied your patch to the current package in vivid. Some
testing is needed, so that we can hopefully backport it to trusty (and
maybe utopic).

  I was able to fix that by adding 'elif [ x$DESKTOP_SESSION = xxubuntu ];
then DE=xfce;' line in 'detectDE()' function.

Bug description:
In Xubuntu 13.10 I was able to load themes from ~/.local/share/themes.

In Xubuntu 14.04 I can still load the GTK3 theme, but not the GTK2
  theme.

  Workaround:
  Load the themes from ~/.themes.

  Downside:
  Cluttered home directory.

  How to reproduce:
  1. Download a theme and put in in ~/.themes.
  2. Open settings manager and a GTK3 app. (I used gedit.)
  3. Apply the downloaded theme.
  So far everything should work.

  4. Move the downloaded theme to ~/.local/share/themes.
  5. Apply another theme and reapply the downloaded one.
At this point only the GTK2 theme is loaded.

Title:
  shortcut changes not persistent

Status in xdg-utils package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
When I change the shortcut left_workspace_key from Ctrl-Alt-Left to Ctrl-Left
that works fine. Same for right_workspace_key.
However, after reboot, the shortcut does not work anymore, although the
graphical interface to the settings manager still says that the shortcut is
Ctrl-Left.

Before changing the shortcuts, the config file contains:

  property name=lt;Controlgt;lt;Altgt;Left type=string
value=left_workspace_key/
  property name=lt;Primarygt;lt;Altgt;Right type=string
value=right_workspace_key/

(why Control for the first and Primary for the other??)

After changing, the original settings are still there:

  property name=lt;Controlgt;lt;Altgt;Left type=string
value=left_workspace_key/
  property name=lt;Primarygt;lt;Altgt;Right type=string
value=right_workspace_key/
  property name=lt;Primarygt;Left type=string
value=left_workspace_key/
  property name=lt;Primarygt;Right type=string
value=right_workspace_key/

A possible solution is to remove the original setting by editing the
config file. However, whenever any other shortcut is changed (not just
cleared), the removed settings are set back again.

  describe. http://imgur.com/a/h1CvF

When the window is maximized LO Calc, Writer, Math work fine.
http://imgur.com/a/h1CvF#0
When i grab the title bar and drag it moving the whole window it works ok.
http://imgur.com/a/h1CvF#1
But when i grab the window's edge to manually change it's size (make it
smaller) this happens: http://imgur.com/a/h1CvF#2
When I grab the window's edge and drag to make it bigger i get this:
http://imgur.com/a/h1CvF#3

The visible stuff is functional. By that I mean I can still type in
text (Writer) or put in data into cells (Calc) open menus like View,
Tools, Edit - but only if I can see them, of course.

After maximizing the window everything is back to normal - no data
lost, nothing crashes, all back to normal.

As I mentioned above it affected LO Math, Calc and Writer which I use.
I don't know about other LO programs.

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: eclipse

Copy/paste functionality using keyboard shortcuts in Eclipse became
very unreliable after upgrading from xubuntu 10.10 to 11.04. No
noticeable pattern: Could copy/paste the exact same way over and over
and get hit-and-miss results. Using mouse menus for copy/paste appears
to work fine. On failure, pasted contents are empty.

When copying using keyboard shortcut in eclipse, xfce4-settings-helper throws:
  (xfce4-settings-helper:3137): Gtk-CRITICAL **:
IA__gtk_clipboard_set_with_data: assertion `targets != NULL' failed

...this does not occur when copying from within eclipse's Edit menu,
  only with Ctrl+c.

A workaround is to disable (or kill) the xfce4-settings-helper
process, at the expense of the services it provides. After this
process is disabled, the copy/paste functionality is flawless.

Status in light-locker package in Ubuntu:

Status in xdg-utils package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
When a screen-locking method is available, 'xdg-screensaver lock'
  should always lock the screen.

  Steps to reproduce:

On a fresh installation of Lubuntu 14.04, run:

  $ xdg-screensaver lock

  Expected:
  [screen locks]

  Actual:
  ERROR: Unknown command 'lock'

However, it is possible to lock the screen via:

  $ light-locker-command -l

The xdg-screensaver script uses one of several external utilities,
depending on the desktop environment. It falls through to
screensaver_xserver() at line 697 (or 740, because the function is
duplicated!), which does not include a lock function, even though one
  is available.

This is a problem because xfce4-power-manager (part of lubuntu-
desktop) uses xdg-screensaver to lock the screen on suspend under
Lubuntu, but this has no effect. This may represent a security risk as
a computer configured to (and reasonably assumed to) lock on suspend
will actually resume straight to the desktop.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1366153] Re: xdg-screensaver doesn't lock screen with light-locker

2015-01-08 Thread Thaddaeus Tintenfisch
Starting with version 1.5.0 and up, light-locker can be controlled via
org.freedesktop.ScreenSaver DBus calls. This makes it compatible with
xdg-screensaver.

locker/commit/dfcfc9834241225c4bd9fccc9a77714a183b805c

Title:
  xdg-screensaver doesn't lock screen with light-locker

Status in light-locker package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in xdg-utils package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
When a screen-locking method is available, 'xdg-screensaver lock'
  should always lock the screen.

  Steps to reproduce:

On a fresh installation of Lubuntu 14.04, run:

  $ xdg-screensaver lock

  Expected:
  [screen locks]

  Actual:
  ERROR: Unknown command 'lock'

However, it is possible to lock the screen via:

  $ light-locker-command -l

Parole sets screen saver timeout and cycle to 600 on exit. It does
not matter what the vaules are before starting the program. Also, it
does not matter whether the option to prevent the screen saver is on
  or off in parole preferences.

xset q before running parole media player:
  Screen Saver:
prefer blanking: yesallow exposures: yes
timeout: 0cycle: 0

  xset q while runing parole:

  Laptop screen dims on logout

Bug description:
After upgrading my laptop from Trusty to the Utopic final image, I
noticed that when I logged out or switched users, the screen would
dim. After logging back in, the brightness would not get restored.
The Display Brightness slider in the Power Manager Plugin still showed
full brightness, but it obviously was not. I had to click twice on
the slider to restore the screen to full brightness.

I then did a clean install and had the same issue.
