[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1303466] [NEW] System program problem detected, dialog at wrong position

2014-04-06 Thread ThomasNovin
Public bug reported:

After booting up and logging in, I got the system program problem
detected dialog. It was placed in the top left corner, should be
centered as it usually is if you get it during runtime.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1303469] [NEW] apport system problem report should remember password, for a while

2014-04-06 Thread ThomasNovin
Public bug reported:

If there are several crash reports to report, you are required to enter
your password several times. If you have just OK:ed this dialog once,
entered your password and the second one pops up right after the first
is done, it seems a bit too much to ask for the password again.

A default cache time of 30s / 60s or something would be better.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1303495] [NEW] Doesn't work changing scaling for menu and title bars with keyboard

2014-04-06 Thread ThomasNovin
Public bug reported:

If you change scaling for menu and title bars with keyboard arrows,

apply.

If you change the slider with the mouse, the value is applied instantly.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1299786] Re: Sometimes no audio, output changed to S/PDIF

2014-04-04 Thread ThomasNovin
Changing back to new.. and can also add that it still happens even after
the wave of updates that has been coming since my original report. Fully
up-to-date as of right now and after the reboot, the audio was at analog
instead of HDMI.

** Changed in: pulseaudio (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete = New

Bug description:
Sometimes in 14.04 I don't have any audible sound. Checking volume
applet Sound Settings I can see that output is set to S/PDIF. Even
though the audio previously was through HDMI. Switching it back to
HDMI makes the sound audible again.

I have no speakers connected either through analog or S/PDIF. Only
  HDMI.

After initial install, it was set to HDMI.

  Why does this happen automatically?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1301756] [NEW] Connected 2nd display, bugged out

2014-04-03 Thread ThomasNovin
Public bug reported:

Connected a 2nd display to my Lenovo laptop. The connection was done via
the DisplayPort. The 2nd display just showed the lock screen and I
wasn't able to use it (could not move the mouse, enter password etc.).
On the same time, the built-in display continued to work.

Tried make 2nd display as primary via System Settings Displays but the
settings applet just hung, got gray.

Title:
Brightness is low after resume from suspend, can't be increased

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
In Settings Brightness Lock the brightness is set to 100%. Also
  dim is not selected.

But, after resuming from suspend, the brightness is very low and I
cannot increase it. Sliding that scaler does nothing and the same with
the laptops FN-keys, they do nothing.

Reboot was required to fix the problem. First I tried to restart
lightdm but could see after stopping it (sudo /etc/init.d/lightdm
stop) that the terminal on vt1 was way to dim.

Same problem again, this time, I could not get vt7 to work at all. Could
switch to vt8 and login with another user but vt7 was dead. Had to
reboot to fix.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1299786] Re: Sometimes no audio, output changed to S/PDIF

2014-03-31 Thread ThomasNovin
I followed the guide and could see in the log that analog was selected.
Switched back to HDMI before killing pulseaudio. I'm not sure on which
output was used before I killed pulseaudio the first time though and I'm
not sure if that matters?

I have never selected anything else than HDMI manually though.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1299786] Re: Sometimes no audio, output changed to S/PDIF

2014-03-30 Thread ThomasNovin
I usually manually turn off the monitor/TV after I put the computer to
suspend. Or if I don't do it manually, it will turn off automatically
after a while. Exactly what state it's in, I have no idea.

From maybe 20 suspends I have seen this issue twice.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1298287] [NEW] Windows and icons stays on secondary display

2014-03-27 Thread ThomasNovin
Public bug reported:

I often use a secondary display on my laptop. I have set in Settings

Windows and icons stays on secondary display

Status in “xorg” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I often use a secondary display on my laptop. I have set in Settings
Display that the launcher shall be placed on this external (bigger)
  display.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1298287] Re: Windows and icons stays on secondary display

2014-03-27 Thread ThomasNovin
Workaround: Go to Settings Display and built-in, disable, apply,
enable = Icons on primary display and built-in is just extra.

2014-03-27 Thread ThomasNovin

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1298578] [NEW] Brightness is low after resume from suspend, can't be increased

2014-03-27 Thread ThomasNovin
Public bug reported:

In Settings Brightness Lock the brightness is set to 100%. Also dim
is not selected.

But, after resuming from suspend, the brightness is very low and I
cannot increase it. Sliding that scaler does nothing and the same with
the laptops FN-keys, they do nothing.

Reboot was required to fix the problem. First I tried to restart lightdm
but could see after stopping it (sudo /etc/init.d/lightdm stop) that the
terminal on vt1 was way to dim.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1253624] Re: Nothing happens when I do suspend, reboot to fix

2013-11-30 Thread ThomasNovin
Doing a shutdown instead of suspend shows a message like attached file,
that some application inhibits the shutdown.

So maybe the same for suspend?

So this should be notified to the user.

What application is inhibiting the shutdown in this case, has this
request been logged somewhere?

Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu:

Status in “gnome-settings-daemon” package in Ubuntu:

Status in “onboard” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Twist convertible ultrabook. The tablet mode
(touchscreen-only operation, keyboard folded away) gets continuously
  working better.

I use Onboard as on-screen keyboard to do text input on my convertible
in tablet mode (see bug 1210823). This works very well but there is an
awkwardness on startup. Every time when Onboard is started (in my case
by the laptop/tablet mode switcher script) a dialog pops up which
  reads:

  --
  Enabling auto-show requires Gnome Accessibility

Onboard can turn on accessibility now, however it is recommended that
you log out and back in for it to reach its full potential.

  Enable accessibility now?
  --

It gives me a No and a Yes button to answer. I click Yes to get
the keyboard. Then the keyboard works correctly for the rest of the
session (I have set it to show when I am in a text field and to hide
otherwise). It does not ask when I switch to laptop mode (which kills
Onboard) and back to tablet mode (restarts Onboard), but If I log out
and log in again, it asks again.

So it seems that it is not saved to be kept over sessions that I have
answered Yes to activate accessibility mode. So I am not sure
whether really Onboard is the culprit or perhaps gnome-control-center
  or gnome-settings-daemon.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1181197] [NEW] Adding a secondary screen causes both desktop icons and all active windows to move to it

2013-05-17 Thread ThomasNovin
Public bug reported:

Setup problem:

Laptop in docking station, external monitor connected via DisplayLink to
the docking station

Start the laptop with the lid closed as normal behaviour. External
monitor works OK.

Then I need a second screen so I open up the lid on the laptop. External
monitor set to primary incl launcher.

Then launcher is on external but desktop icons + all windows I had open
is on secondary/laptop screen.

I do not have this problem when I add a secondary screen via VGA
directly to the laptop. It becomes secondary but is completely empty
except for top panel.

(uncertain if this is xorg problem or unity problem (or something
else?))

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1011073] Re: NetworkManager submenus sometimes unpopulated

Came from this duplicate ##1135483.

I have this problem on Raring 32-bit. Read in another bug some idea
about it only affecting 64-bit.

  NetworkManager submenus sometimes unpopulated

Status in “network-manager-applet” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
Submenus in Network Manager are sometimes unusable as they are not
populated. This happens both with the list of available networks and
with the VPN list. When the bug happens, it occurs for *both* the
wireless submenu and the VPN menu. I know there are entries for those
submenus as I can see them with other network UI mechanisms. The
  issue is intermittent.

  Expected:
Dropping down the menu then hovering over the submenu trigger-point (example:
More networks) shows the additional expected entries (example: more wifi
networks to choose from).

  Actual:
Dropping down the menu and hovering over the submenu trigger displays a
submenu but the submenu has nothing in it and is unusable.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1070487] Re: Xorg/Unity occasionaly crashes

2013-02-05 Thread ThomasNovin
Interesting, I had like 2-5 crashes every week until I upgraded from 4GB
to 8GB RAM. No crashes since (+1 month now). I also use a lot of RAM
since I always have a virtual machine running.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 873191] Re: Ubuntu starts with lowest brightness on HP G62[regression]

2012-03-25 Thread ThomasNovin
I always have this issue while booting without AC. Tried the kernel boot
option workaround but that didn't help. Have Intel gfx.
