[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1792085] Re: MTP not working/very slow on Bionic
It's not the first bug who is not fixed in one or more years, the problem is, when you invite new users to discover ubuntu, at a time, they will need to connect their phone on their computer, and they will say: This doesn't work, and the fix (via mtpfs-go) is complicated for basic users. Today from the boot to the basic usage, you have a lot of problems never fixed or ignored when reported that make ubuntu or linux in general not user friendly, and even if people with some knowledge in IT always find after some hours a way to use their favorite OS on their computer, the lambda user, who will be really happy to use ubuntu, is in fact not able to install it, or use it on some specific points like this, even if they follow a tutorial. (Boot, uefi, wifi, graphics, mtp, bugs in gui, missing basic feature or removed, sound, video, etc) For information, with go-mtpfs, you can set an higher timeout value, then the mtp is usable, the bug is just a timeout issuenot fixed in 1 year -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gvfs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1792085 Title: MTP not working/very slow on Bionic Status in libmtp: New Status in gvfs package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Hi, unfortunately (for me) MTP android devices no more work on Ubuntu 18.04. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1797734] Re: slow calculator startup
Hello, Try to remove the snap package: snap remove gnome-calculator And install the deb package: apt-get install gnome-calculator I have experimented this on Ubuntu 18.04 and 19.04 and it seem to be really faster. I have experienced many speed problems with snap apps. And some was really laggy. For example, with discord on snap, on one of my laptop: crashes, and mic problems. For the other laptop: Really laggy, 5 to 10s between the time I type something, and the time it appear on the screen, on a laptop with 2 SSD. I have the time to start firefox 3 times on the same period, and discord in firefox doesn't present any of theses problems. After this, I remove the snap version, and install the official deb version (from the discord website), and no problems. Fluid and not full of bugs. Same problem for Atom (atom.io), buggy and laggy with snap. I don't understand why snap is slow like this for certain apps, and I don't understand exactly how snap works, but I suspect him to be the cause of many slow apps on recent versions of Ubuntu. On my laptop, for gnome-calculator, the time to open: - Snap: 2 to 10s - Deb: 0.1 to 1s I can't say it's definitely snap, but I suppose you can look at this. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-calculator in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1797734 Title: slow calculator startup Status in gnome-calculator package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: The calculator starts very slowly. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1779111] [NEW] High CPU usage, framerate drop after adding or removing monitors
Public bug reported: Hello, On Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS up to date (28/06/2018, DD/MM/), after connecting or removing a monitor (moving, etc...) with a Nvidia GPU, unity-control-center takes high CPU and makes Xorg taking 100% of the CPU. And Steam games run with 10 - 15fps were they run with 60fps or more without this bug. Typing: ```killall -9 unity-control-center``` fix immediately the problem, but it's not good for users who don't know the reason and think it's due to a bad performance from Ubuntu Note: I use Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS from about 4 years now, and I experience this bug only since 3 - 6months, on 5 different computers who are all up to date. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1551385] Re: No sound on ASUS Xonar DGX Soundcard (16.04)
The problem of this "solution" is that is temporary, because on each boot you need to set manually the output on alsamixer (because pulseaudio can't change it) The driver developer Clemens Ladisch said me that it's because of a difference between the name of the output purposed by the driver and the name that pulseaudio search. The driver said "Multichannel", but PulseAudio search about "Speakers", so he didn't found the right output. This bug is because the output was renamed in the driver. A simple name update in pulseaudio will fix the problem normally. And for the workarround, thanks Clemens Ladisch :) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1551385 Title: No sound on ASUS Xonar DGX Soundcard (16.04) Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: Hello, On Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Alpha), with the latest package updates (28/02/2015), Linux 4.4 and PulseAudio 8.0, I can't play any sound on my ASUS Xonar DGX. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 209746] Re: File permissions are incorrect during file copy
The cp command use umask permission by default, it seem logic that nautilus do the same thing. cp don't preserve chmod and chown by default. This fake bug can be resolved by adding a new feature that purpose to preserve permissions, or by choosing new permissions on a Window before copy. Example by adding a Advanced paste option in the menu, under the normal Paste option. Advanced paste can be a Window that purpose to preserve or not permissions, or/and define new permission for files and for folders copied. I think it's the best way to solve this problem... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/209746 Title: File permissions are incorrect during file copy Status in Nautilus: New Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Binary package hint: nautilus From http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=458397 reported by Roberto Zunino: When copying files, files are created with the default umask permissions instead of using the permissions of the file being copied. Permissions are then fixed after the copy has been completed. This however leaves a window of vulnerability. Real world example: I just copyed my old home (perms=700) to a new disk. This took quite a long time, during which my home had permissions 775. Steps to reproduce: 1. Create a folder and put some large files inside 2. chmod 700 folder 3. Nautilus-copy it somewhere else Actual results: while copying, ls -d folder_copy shows 775 perms, and other users can go in and read inside the folders Expected results: folder_copy should be created with 700 perms Does this happen every time? yes Other information: The Right Thing would be to pass the correct permissions to open()/mkdir() etc. Failing that, a good enough easier fix would be to set umask to 700old_umask for the copying stuff. -[ End of bug report by Roberto Zunino ]--- I can reproduce this bug now with nautilus version 1:2.20.0-0ubuntu7.1 under Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy). I tried to copy a single regular file with the permissions set to 600, so the problem is not limited to copying directories. I'm marking this as a security vulnerability because under appropriate circumstances it can allow local users to read other's files effectively bypassing the permissions set by the owner. It is true that many users won't be affected by this but that's not a valid reason to ignore the problem. Hello, Just to add this remark: This bug affect eog, file-roller, and others specifics software like that when you start more than one instance. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1393226] [NEW] Nautilus take huge quantity of RAM with thumbnails
Public bug reported: Hello, When you open a folder containing many pictures/images, nautilus take huge quantity of RAM because it open all thumbnails in same time. On my laptop, nautilus have take more RAM than my computer have (4GB) for o folder containing 2000 - 4000 images/pictures. Just for testing, I have linked many images on the same folder (28000), and try to open it with nautilus. Nautilus take 5GB of RAM per windows/tab in the folder. (So nautilus take 8GB of ram just for that), and the time used just to display icons (without thumbnail) is very long. To compare: Windows Explorer (on Windows 7) is very faster than nautilus to open that, and don't take this huge RAM quantity ! Other test: Open the System32 folder on Windows with the explorer, and the System32 folder on Linux with nautilus: On Windows, it's fast (5 - 10s to open max), with nautilus, it takes 40 - 120s to open it. (and just to open) It can be a good thing to optimise the time to open folder when it contain many sub-folders or files, try to open /bin, /usr/bin, or /usr/share (or equivalent), if you're not on a SSD it's take 2 - 3min And for thumbnails: It can be a good think to load the thumbnail when it's displayed, and unload when it's not displayed. It you have 100 files in the folder, with many pictures, You have 50 pictures displayed in same time, the 50 others can be savec in thumbnail cache, but nautilus must not open it. For 5000 pictures, you have already 50 pictures displayed at same time, but, if nautilus load the 4950 others, the RAM explode. Please, add this functionnality to make nautilus thin and faster. Just, after opening 2 windows on my folder (with 28000 small pictures), the computer use 12.4GB of RAM (1.8GB before the test), you understand the problem? This bug, affect all versions of Ubuntu. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 871385] Re: Timeout while waiting for mount to appear when mounting NFS
I have the same bug on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with nautilus 3.4.2. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/871385 Title: Timeout while waiting for mount to appear when mounting NFS Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I've got a couple NFS mounts in my /etc/fstab, set up to be user- mountable. These mounts show up as network mountpoints in Nautilus's computer:// location, which I can click on to mount. When I do click on them, nautilus successfully mounts the mountpoint -- it appears as a new harddisk in the same computer:// view (right next to the original icon I clicked). However, Nautilus then doesn't switch my view to that location, and after a few seconds pops up a message, Unable to mount location: Timeout waiting for mount to appear. After all this, I can manually click on the newly created icon and browse the drive. Further, double-clicking on the original icon while the mount is already there causes nautilus to pop up a message, mount.nfs: location is busy or already mounted. What I expect to happen is that this takes me to the view of the root of the mount. Optimally, there shouldn't be two icons either. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 378861] Re: access errors when using tabs
(I'm french, sorry for eventual errors of English) This bug affect my on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS amd 64 with nautilus 3.4.2. When I use a FAT32 or NTFS partition in a tab, my folders are created in other tab. I would copy my Music on my Android Phone (SD), I select the files and I can't click to Copy because nautilus consider I would to copy the empty folder in other tab. (he consider no files selected in the empty folder) I have this bug for 2 - 3 months approximately, when I can select my files for a copy they are moved or copied in the wrong tab ! The bug is random, to reproduce it, it's easy when you use Ubuntu (you have frequetly this problem with FAT32 paritition), but you can try several time to constat the bug. Try with a SD Card or USB Key in FAT32 and you HDD in ext4 for example, open 3 or 4 tab and move form one to another. Try to Open a file in a tab, an move this to n other tab. If you can't see the bug, try again, I have the bug every time I use a FAT32 partition. For a NTFS partition I don't know if the bug is present... I have not found the bug with NTFS personnaly, only with FAT16/32, in only a Linux partition (ext4) Nautilus don't have this bug. Thanks you. → I have tested (when I write this message) to clic to proprities (contextual menu) in the ext4 folder affected with the bug, I think nautilus give the detail of the FAT32 folder (by logic) and not, Nautilus crash, it's a chance because apport have been started and I have send the bug report. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/378861 Title: access errors when using tabs Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Binary package hint: nautilus I wanted to import my files from a external drive to my internal ntfs drive, where i store all my non-os-data. So i opened the ntfs disk in the first tab and the external disk (ntfs, too) in the second one. Now, if i right click in the window (first tab) and choose to make a new directory, file or whatever, it is written to the folder on my external drive, which i have opened in the second tab. (Also, i cannot delete a file from the local disc because the external drive is read-only.) Edit: The second drive is also writable but if i open them both in two tabs, i cant delete files or folders on the first and the second drive. If i open the two drives in two separate windows instead of tabs it works alright. I hope you understand what i mean, it is really difficult to explain. Maybe i will record a video showing what happens and post a link... -- ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/nautilus NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia Package: nautilus 1:2.26.2-0ubuntu2 ProcEnviron: LANG=de_AT.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: nautilus Uname: Linux 2.6.27-14-generic i686 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/378861/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
