Reproduced error message "specified device is invalid" from (remote

this case.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1808874] Re: nvidia-detector doesn't seem to detect nvidia

2021-07-29 Thread Daniel Gibson
> note: I think, in your case, the output of nvidia-detector is correct,
since you don't seem to have an obsolete driver installed.

nope, it's supposed to "Return the recommended driver version", see
https://github.com/tseliot/ubuntu-drivers-
common/blob/138c91aae486f2449d374273ae3790800132f09f/NvidiaDetector/nvidiadetector.py#L40-L48

On my system (XUbuntu 20.04 with Geforce 970) it's what it does, it prints
"nvidia-driver-470"
I think if it prints "None" that means that it couldn't find any nvidia GPU (or
maybe at least none it knows a driver for?) on the system

I've reverted back to before installing the Nvidia driver. Nvidia now
has new drivers which I think will solve this problem, so this bug can
be closed.

You might want to run 'apt --fix-broken install' to correct these.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 libgl1-mesa-dri:i386 : Depends: libelf1:i386 (>= 0.142) but it is not going to
be installed
 libnvidia-gl-390:i386 : Depends: libwayland-client0:i386 (>= 1.3.92) but it is
not going to be installed
 Depends: libwayland-server0:i386 (>= 1.2.0) but it is
not going to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt --fix-broken install' with no packages (or
specify a solution).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1727210] Re: Totem locks up with 17.10 on AMD® E1-6010 apu with amd radeon r2 graphics × 2 (Lenovo)

2017-10-30 Thread Kent Gibson
Indeed it looks like my issue is slightly different from both this and
bug 1720820, but given we have a workaround I'm happy to wait until
those are fixed and checking if they also fix my problem before raising
yet another minor bug variant - unless there is something specific I can
add that could be of assistance.

Removing the mesa-va-drivers works for me, so I can switch back to
Wayland now instead of falling back to Xorg.

Thanks.

2017-10-28 Thread Kent Gibson
Logout. Then at the login screen click on the gear icon next to the
Sign On button and select "Ubuntu on Xorg" and login. (the default
selection "Ubuntu" uses Wayland now).

It's not absolutely critical to test this - I just thought it would be a
useful data point to show we're both seeing the same problem with totem
on Wayland. But, if it works, then it is a viable workaround until it
gets fixed.

You can exit mpv by pressing "q" - that one caught me as well.

Does totem work for you in an xorg session?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1727210] Re: Totum locks up with 17.10

2017-10-25 Thread Kent Gibson
I have the same problem - at least the same symptoms as the OP when playing MP4
viedos with totem on wayland.
My video card is an ATI HD5850 using the radeon driver.
The video will play in totem on xorg. It will also play on wayland with mpv or
vlc.

The only warning I get from totem is:

(totem:7298): Gtk-WARNING **: Drawing a gadget with negative dimensions.
Did you forget to allocate a size? (node slider owner GtkScale)

but I'm not sure if it is relevant.

vainfo output:

$ vainfo

libva info: Trying to open /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/r600_drv_video.so

As I prefer totem over the other players, my current workaround is to fallback
to xorg.

Title:
Printing a #10 envelope truncates return address

Status in cups package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
This bug was first reported by me to Freedesktop (bug 37733) because
it only showed up when printing envelopes from LibreOffice writer.
But we determined that it was apparently a bug in cups, not
  LibreOffice.

Note: it is definitely not a problem with printer margins. In fact,
I increased that setting, but it still truncated, only further from
  the edge.

I believe the problem is that the printer needs to be set to a larger
paper size for a #10 envelope; 9.5 inches vs 8.5. When I print to PDF,
I can see both the envelope and the document, and the return address
is truncated right about at the 8.5" edge of the document. I've
printed to the same printer using Windows, and noticed that it sets
the printer to "legal"; in fact, I sometimes got annoyed that it would
stop and prompt me to "Load legal" on the printer, and I would need to
press the continue button, whereupon it would print the envelope with
  no problems.

Printing to a PDF file prints normally, so I think that means the
actual printer needs to be set. The PDF file is the correct size, but
even trying to print from it causes truncation unless it is printed to
  an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper.

I first discovered this problem a few years ago, I believe, but gave
  up trying to solve it.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1375637] Re: Premature end of data in tag file line 247651 with libxml2

2015-11-20 Thread Quanah Gibson-Mount
Hi Sebastien,

The problem is I've found no consistent trigger for the bug. I have 225
packages in my repository, built out for two different branches and two
oses (so 225x4). createrepo just randomly corrupts when executing
'createrepo --update .' when adding a new source/binary rpm pair. It is
trivially solvable (rm -rf repodata .repodata; createrepo .), but having
to briefly have a 100% repo outage is the problem.

I've not seen anything specific about the packages that would cause this
to occur. It seems to be some type of race condition during the update
process, because of it complaining about " I/O error : No such file or
directory".

When will this be fixed? I'm currently using a single server to host
both debs and rpms, and this bug triggers fairly frequently, causing me
to have to take down my repo and regenerate it.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1225588] [NEW] Wakeup key press passes through lock screen

2013-09-14 Thread Angus Gibson
Public bug reported:

When I use the super or alt keys to wake up from sleep, the lock screen
comes up as usual. However, upon successfully logging in, the Dash or
alt-menu will be open, when they definitely weren't open before the

through the lock screen to the desktop.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 930484] [NEW] Slow and disconnecting wireless connection ath9k driver

2012-02-10 Thread Aaron Gibson
Public bug reported:

I have had a next to unusable internet connection with my wireless card
for my desktop (where I am living, a wired connection is simply not an
option).

When I start up the computer from a reboot, it connects to the correct
wireless network. But when I try and open a webpage, for instance, it
becomes unbearable. It often takes 5 minutes just to load google. What
is strange is that my internet comes in bursts, and when the page
finally does load, it does so quickly. Then it stops again and is slow.

I do not think that the router is a problem because my laptop, as well
as some other computers all connect just fine with fast speeds.

Furthermore, I have tried numerous solutions such as the options ath9k
nohwcrypt=1 and compiling the compat-wireless drivers from source.

Thanks

** Affects: gnome-nettool (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

Title:
Slow and disconnecting wireless connection ath9k driver

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I have had a next to unusable internet connection with my wireless
card for my desktop (where I am living, a wired connection is simply
  not an option).

Then it stops again and is
  slow.

I do not think that the router is a problem because my laptop, as well
as some other computers all connect just fine with fast speeds.

Furthermore, I have tried numerous solutions such as the options
ath9k nohwcrypt=1 and compiling the compat-wireless drivers from
  source.

  Thanks
