[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1880830] Re: deja-dup failing with gpg read errors

2021-05-12 Thread Wim Lewis
I did eventually resolve this by deleting a corrupt file in (I think)
~/.cache/deja-dup , although it was difficult to figure out what needed
to go.

Title:
deja-dup failing with gpg read errors

Status in deja-dup package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Starting a couple weeks ago, backups have begun failing with the
following message. Until now, I have had no problems with backups; I
backup via ssh to a cloud provider. (Until ~6 months ago I was backing
up via ssh to a machine on my local net.) The scheduled backup asks
for my ssh key passphrase and backup encryption passphrase as normal,
but a few minutes later this error is displayed. The mounted ssh
filesystem is visible in Nautilus and looks normal to me.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1882378] [NEW] [System Product Name, C-Media Generic, Green Line Out, Rear] Underruns, dropouts or crackling sound

2020-06-06 Thread Wim Pauwels
Public bug reported:

I am not sure about what is the default in my problem but when i connect
my TERRATEC AUREON 7.1 I get after a fresh install this very bad sound
crackles during playback and also some kind of weard echo like it seems
to be a record line directly to the play output connected_

I have been working around it since a week or so and al of the
possibilities i tried didn't workout for me

it seems to be a driver problem in alsa because i don't get better sound
in any case than this crackling screeching and also some kind of echo
noise overlayed above the sound on ANY output or INPUT

very annoying because in windows this asio driver card played well
butI really need ubuntu for some things. although with a better sound card
quality than nowadays it seems to be

can people be generous here and try to speed up the solution
because I really need to sing and make records on the system.
I can delay them but not very long time...

Kind regards,
Wim Pauwels

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1807277] [NEW] Cannot set tiling background for desktop

2018-12-06 Thread Wim Lewis
Public bug reported:

The Ubuntu settings app used to allow choosing how the background image
would fit the window (tiled, stretched, centered). It no longer offers
any choices, backgrounds are always stretched.

(Other approaches, like alt-clicking on an image in Firefox, still allow
me to set a tiled background, so clearly the system is still capable of
it, but it has vanished from the settings UI.)

The settings app also seems generally sparser and less functional than
before, which is off-putting.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1313430] Re: Crashes on Ubuntu 14.04 when trying to connect to iPod

2014-05-22 Thread Wim Goeman
Using Ubuntu 14.04 64bits as well here. Got the pre-release updates as
well (especially tried for this one), and still have this problem.

Hope this gets fixed.

Title:
  serious opengl bug in 13.04

Status in “xorg” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Tested on two notebooks.
Bug appears only in the 13.04 version. 12.10 is OK.
Dubblechecked by booting a 12.10 version on USB stick (on the 13.04
notebooks).
  Problem:
OpenGl shading language (GLSL) uniform variables seem to stay undefined, or
lose their value somewhere.
Tested with a WebGl app as well as a C++ (Qt) application.
This bug is also reported a driver issue.
If it is related to this driver issue, why is the (old) buggy driver
re-installed with 13.04?
  thanks.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 921397] Re: Speaker audio channel goes mute after plugging in the headphone

2013-06-13 Thread Wim Goeman
I am having the exact same issue, and am also on an HP device. Problem
started happening somewhere in the last month. Anyway I solved it with
the following values for the Speaker Element:

[Element Speaker]
switch = mute
volume = zero

(note the 'volume = zero', which was not suggested in the comments above)

Title:
Speaker audio channel goes mute after plugging in the headphone

Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
Speaker audio channel goes mute after plugging in the headphone and
unmute after the headphone is plugged out. By consequence there is no
sound when trying to listen the sound by headphones.

This is a pulseaudio problem and can be circumvent by just editing
  /usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/paths/analog-output-headphones.conf
and commenting the line as here:

  [Jack_InputDevice]
  #code = Headphone

This will avoid pulseaudio to change profiles when headphone is
  plugged in.

Some people affected by this bug don't get the headphones muted, but
only a very low volume, this workaround could help too. But to some
computer models this workaround could let the sound play by headphones
and speaker by the same time (most people don't desire that).

On my computer model ( HP Pavilion DV-4 2080br ) the workaround works
well and the sound goes only by the headphone, as expected.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1176818] [NEW] upgrade to 13.6: wrong/strange behavior opengel es vertex shader

2013-05-06 Thread wim de vries
Public bug reported:

Graphics: Intel® 965GM
I suspect (I am not a mesa etc. specialist) sth wrong in the mesa lib, because
opengl ES isn't working correctly any more.
I had a WebGL app running nicely in FireFox and Chromium (Ubuntu 12.10).
I upgraded from 12.10(64bits) to 13.4 (64bits).
Now it does not work correctly any more in FireFox as well as Chromium.
No errors, but serious wrong behavior.
It still works correctly on other machines (ubuntu 12.04/FireFox,
macBook/FireFox, windows/Chromium).
The bug turns up in the following lines of the vertex shader (coming from
javascript/WebGL)
---
uniform mediump vec3 criticalHeights;
attribute mediump  vec3 vertex;
...
if(criticalHeights[2]  vertex.z )
{varAmbientLight = redAmbientLight; varDiffuseLight = redDiffuseLight;};
 }
---
criticalHeights[2] and vertex.z vary between -100 and + a few hundred.
the 'if' statement always returns true, even with extreme values like
-100.0 vertex.z or criticalHeights[2] 100.0
Please find attached output of glxinfo.
Thanks.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1166447] Re: evolution crashes on startup after upgrade to 13.04 if preview pane enabled

I don't have the preview pane enabled but when I open a mail evolution crashes.
There seems something wrong with viewing the content of a mail message, either
in preview or when opening a mail.
This is since the upgrade to 13.04.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1157144] [NEW] 2nd monitor flickers since kernel 3.5.0-19

2013-03-19 Thread Wim Symons
Public bug reported:

My 2nd monitor (a Samsung SyncMaster 930BF) worked perfectly up to
kernel 3.5.0.19-generic. Starting from 3.5.0-21-generic up to now
(3.5.0-32-generic) the display is not usable. It just flickers very
rapidly, making it impossible to work with.

I tried to use xrandr to set a lower display rate, or even to supply a custom
modeline. Nothing works.
So now I just froze my kernel to 3.5.0-19 in the grub configuration, but I
don't like it because I miss out on security updates.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1080328] [NEW] On double click, Nautilus opens the file with the wrong application

2012-11-18 Thread wim sturkenboom
Public bug reported:

Observed behaviour
Assume I have a file called screenshot.png and double click it; Nautilus will
start the image viewer. If I omit the extension, Nautilus is clever enough to
figure it out and open it with the image viewer. If I'm however stupid enough
to rename the file to screenshot.txt, Nautilus decides that it's no longer an
image and opens with a texteditor (or attempts to).

Expected behaviour
Nautilus should use the file content to determine the type of file and the
associated application instead of extensions.

Reported for Ubuntu 12.04; also observed with an up-to-date 10.04 and
also reported to be the case on 13.04 (see

Very sorry that I forgot to mention this. Same version of Firefox under
Windows does not suffer from this problem. This is Ubuntu (or Linux)
specific.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1059773] [NEW] Incorrect information in man page of cvt

2012-10-01 Thread wim sturkenboom
Public bug reported:

Not a software bug but highly annoying.

From 'man cvt':
OPTIONS
refresh Provide a vertical refresh rate in kHz. The CVT standard
prefers either 50.0, 60.0, 75.0 or 85.0kHz. The
   default is 60.0kHz.

Problem:
Unfortunately vertical refresh rates are expressed in Hz, not in kHz.

Ubuntu 12.04 (64bit but I don't think it matters).

Possible package: xorg-server

Note: man pages on the web are also incorrect; e.g.
http://linux.die.net/man/1/cvt

Status in “gnome-utils” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I have a dual screen set up with slightly different resolutions, i.e.
external screen is 1920x1200 and the laptop screen is 1920x1080.
Taking pictures with the built-in screenshot tool results in a black
image with just the mouse pointer showing.

But what makes it a serious problem is that the gnome-screenshot stays
resident (after Cancel) and pegs one CPU thread to 100%. After a few
attempts of taking screen shots, the whole CPU was maxed out! (see
  attached system-monitor image)

BTW, the screen shots were taken with shutter -- just in case anyone
  was wondering :)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 912080] Re: I mis all my maps in Evolution mail

2012-01-05 Thread Wim Gottenbos
I have lately solved the problem bij importing an old backup, which I made six
moths ago. Evolution is functioning normal again after that, but iI am missing
al my recent mails. the only thing that I can advise is: make twice a week a
backup. When this problem happens again you will not lose so much data. Only
for a couple of days.
When you have a huge amount of data and you close Evolution it is better to be
patient and not forrce to cluse the application. Writing and closing the data
will take more time. When you do so, there is a chance that you damage the maps
in Evolution. Evolutiomn cannot read all the data en you will lose your old
mails.

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 830521] Re: not all e-mails from google inbox were imported

2011-10-28 Thread Wim Senecaut
Dear Mathieu,
Thank you for your interest in Pays. Meanwhile, my modified version of
Ubuntu and I work with: Gnome-mail.
But I would like you to try to understand the problem.
Usually it was the top email. Those who were open all came from Google, except
for the top. Waik much can arschijnlijk gel pen - that is my opinion as a
neophyte - is the first line is hidden behind the toolbar.
I hope not too many mistakes that I've written because English is not my native
language.
If I can help it make me Evolution back to my standard mail.
I also take this opportunity to say that like to use my google calendar does
not adjust itself. Once that is achieved. But I repeat, I am a novice and
would really like to use me.
Sincerely,
wim

2011/10/24 Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre mathieu...@gmail.com

This was likely a POP account, in which case it's normal for emails to
only be downloaded once if it's already marked as downloaded... Could
you please offer more information as to how your account is configured
(maybe a screenshot of the Receiving tab for the account settings),
and/or screenshots of evolution and the relevant gmail parts?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 836250] Re: [Oneiric] Intel Corporation Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 poor networking, packet loss and very slow Lenovo X201 and T500 laptops

2011-10-17 Thread Wim
Same here, wireless very slow, running on a lenovo ThinkPad T410. Wired
connection is ok.
Workaround: disable 11n (sudo modprobe iwlagn 11n_disable=1) in
/etc/modprobe.d/options.conf

Bug description:
This may be either network-manager or kernel, depending on triage...

I have verified this on both a Lenovo X201 and a Lenovo T500 laptop.

Both work perfectly with fully updated 10.10 and 11.04 versions of
  Ubuntu.

However, booting into a fully updated 11.10 (as of 28/08/11) I get
very poor wireless networking performance. Between 6-10% packet loss,
very very slow connection and transfer rate. All in all, practically
  unusable.

I have reported the bug on the X201 laptop, I will add the similar
logs from the T500 also if required.

As soon as I swap back to either 10.10 or 11.04 I get perfect
wireless, it's only on 11.10 that I get problems, this would suggest
it's not hardware or configuration on my side.

I have had this since first installing 11.10 which was a little after
  Alpha 2.

  Wired connection is fine.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 842730] [NEW] gnome-terminal changes cursor color after terminal tab switch

2011-09-06 Thread Wim
Public bug reported:

Using ANSI escape sequences you can change the cursor color from the
command-line, like so:
echo ESC]12;rgb:8000/8000/8000^G;
Where 'ESC' and '^G' are the single characters: escape and control-g. After
doing this when you switch tab and back again the cursor color will have
changed to black.
