[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1970492] Re: Firefox update pushing me to update to 91.0.1 when I am on 91.0.2

2022-05-05 Thread archerbob
Browser now updates normally without spam, unfortunately Firefox 99.0.1
and the new update 100.0 seem to have some issues with some website I
use that use javascript/ajax. So currently for those websites I have to
use another web browser.

Title:
Firefox update pushing me to update to 91.0.1 when I am on 91.0.2

Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
I am using Firefox on Ubuntu 16.04 and has been spamming me to update
my browser for awhile now and thus I did so today to 91.0.2, only to
discover the update spam continues telling me to update to 91.0.1 :/

What can I say, why is pushing people to update to a previous version
  a thing?

Please give me a patch that allows users like me to choose whether I
want to update, OR NOT, and disable the update spam message that
  occurs multiple times a day!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1970492] Re: Firefox update pushing me to update to 91.0.1 when I am on 91.0.2

2022-04-27 Thread archerbob
Okay I think I've fixed it... so here is what I did in the finish

* I downloaded firefox-99.0.1.tar.bz2
* I extracted it on my desktop
* I opened Terminal and navigated to my desktop
* I then used Firefox to look at More Troubleshooting Information to see where
my Firefox was installed
* I then used RSYNC -av to merge the new Firefox with the old and now I have
99.0.1 with all my bookmarks/logins intact

Perhaps not the best way to do things but it works.

Now we'll see if I still get the update spam or not...

2022-04-27 Thread archerbob
The 91.8.0ESR is what I got through snap and its super broken. Which is
why I went for the manual install.

Something weird is going on because I just looked at the package I
installed from and it is the 99.0.1 but for some strange reason it comes
up as 91.0.2

I dunno whats going on.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1970492] Re: Firefox update pushing me to update to 91.0.1 when I am on 91.0.2

2022-04-27 Thread archerbob
The snap package has all kinds of problems so I installed the tar.bz2
package from the Firefox website and as you can plainly see I have
91.0.2 installed per the attached screenshot.

I dunno what is wrong with the snap package but the downloading and
saving of files is all messed up such as not saving to the downloads
folder and when I click on "open containing folder" nothing happens...
so I uninstalled the snap package.

The only thing annoying me presently is the update message coming up
multiple times a day and would very much like to shut it off
permanently.
