[Desktop-packages] [Bug 35248] Re: Regression: CUPS does not print to HP Deskjet 3745
I have just tried the simple fix shown above: sudo sed -i 's/HP (HPLIP)/HP/' /usr/share/ppd/hplip/* The result is: sed: can't read /usr/share/ppd/hplip/*: No such file or directory -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to hplip in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/35248 Title: Regression: CUPS does not print to HP Deskjet 3745 Status in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in hplip package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: The HP Deskjet 3745 USB printer worked under Hoary and Warty using the HP Deskjet 3740 print driver. In Breezy and Dapper I have failed to get it to work with the CUPS Deskjet driver (Deskjet 3740 doesn't exist anymore) or the hplip system. It can't even print a test page. CUPS appears to think the printer sent the test page fine and the page printed; it never makes it to the physical printer. It also seems to not notice the USB cable was pulled out; even though cups no longer sees the printer, it states its status is "Ready" at all times. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 35248] Re: Regression: CUPS does not print to HP Deskjet 3745
My printer does not print since I upgraded Ubuntu to 18.04.1 about 10 October 2018. I have followed advice in over 30 emails from several guys using ubuntu-users list without success. The error "Filter failed" keeps appearing. I am a retired end user of Ubuntu since 2004, but still do not know much about linux or cups or debian. So I finally read some of the advice in https://wiki.debian.org/DissectingandDebuggingtheCUPSPrintingSystem and started to do some steps but got very lost. The printer works well if I switch to Windows 7 but that is little use because that has very few apps in it. I am quite sure this problem can be solved but I only have the skills to do terminal commands that I can copy and paste. Please help me get this printer to work again -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to hplip in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/35248 Title: Regression: CUPS does not print to HP Deskjet 3745 Status in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in hplip package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: The HP Deskjet 3745 USB printer worked under Hoary and Warty using the HP Deskjet 3740 print driver. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 527157] Re: Brightness controls skips Levels.
This bug seems to have gone stale (again?), but I'd like to report that it affects me with: * 13.10, fully updated * Thinkpad T440p (FHD panel, if that matters) Using the slider in Settings > Brightness & Lock, it seems that there is ~15 brightness levels (it's hard to get an exact count, since each level is pretty subtle, and the mechanics of manipulating the slider aren't the most precise). However, using the screen brightness "media" keys (doubling as F5 and F6), I can distinguish between only 4 brightness levels. Each press of these keys pops up the brightness overlay/notification in the upper-right, and the bar there changes properly, but the actual screen brightness changes in a step function, rather than linearly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/527157 Title: Brightness controls skips Levels. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1026046] Re: Missing support for thumb resting on bottom of clickpad
Confirmed with a 4,2 Macbook Air. Thankfully I have a trackball in hand most of the time, but this is definitely the biggest drawback I've encountered so far since switching from OS X a couple of days ago. FWIW, xf86-input-mtrack has recently added two options that sound promising: * IgnoreThumb - Whether or not to ignore touches that are determined to be thumbs. Boolean value. Defaults to false. * BottomEdge - The size of an area at the bottom of the trackpad where new touches are ignored (fingers traveling into this area from above will still be tracked). This is represented as a percentage of the total trackpad height. Defaults to 10. I don't have the heart at the moment to attempt to swap out the synaptics driver for xf86-input-mtrack (the .deb I found looks like it depends upon an experimental xorg input abi); hopefully a fix for this comes along before I get desperate enough to try... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1026046 Title: Missing support for thumb resting on bottom of clickpad Status in “xserver-xorg-input-synaptics” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “xserver-xorg-input-synaptics” source package in Precise: Confirmed Bug description: When using the trackpad on the MacBook Pro In Mac OS X it is possible to have the thumb resting (ready to click) on the bottom part of the touchpad while moving the mouse pointer around with your index or middle finger. Likewise it is also possible to use two finger scrolling with the index and middle finger on the upper part on the track pad while resting the thumb on the lower part of the trackpad. This behaviour is not currently supported with the synaptics driver in 12.04. It wil register a two finger scroll when the thumb is resting in the bottom part and index finger moves around in the upper part. I have tried playing aroud with the setting AreaBottomEdge that disables all motion on the bottom part of the touchpad. Unfortunately when this setting is enabled it still detects a finger in the area, so it wil register a two finger scroll like before. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1059633] Re: Emacs 'Ediff' Window Shrinks Horizontally To One Column Wide
Workaround I use: after starting ediff-buffers, or ediff-files, for example: 1) ctrl-alt-num pad 5 -- this maximizes the small ediff window to whole screen; it contains text 'type ? for help' 2) type ?-- this brings up the help text; this window still fills up whole screen 3) type ?-- this minimizes ediff window; on my system, this little ediff window is not visible at all now 4) proceed w/ ediff session -- ediff responds as though commands were typed into little ediff window even though it is not visible. Typing ? again brings up help text in a window that fills whole screen, then type ? again to make it go away. *Note* if, in the middle of ediff session, user switches to different window, by using alt-tab for instance, then comes back to emacs, the focus will no longer be in the small ediff window, but in the emacs frame itself. Resizing the window isn't a work-around, as the window immediately shrinks again. The behavior is observed as follows: Run ediff-buffers A new window, 'Ediff', opens and contains the text "Type ? for hlep" In the 'Ediff' window, type the character '?', This is supposed to display helpful info on the ediff commands Ediff window will expand, then shrink horizontally to one character wide Grabbing the frame and reszing will cause the shrinking behavior to repeat Releveant packages / versions: Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS GNU Emacs 23.3.1 Unity 5.16.0-0ubuntu1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/1059633/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
