[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1455662] Re: nm-applet icon disappears from menu bar requiring 'sudo service network-manager stop; sudo service network-manager start' to get back.
No much luck. Last few times (at session start) the nm-applet icon disappeared (after some time). Interestingly the lack of the icon does not necessarily means lack of internet! At least sometimes, there was internet (ping, web) despite of the empty place of the nm-applet. But, sometimes the internet, after some time (at the worst moments) was gone. :( And 'nmcli connection up XX' in most of the cases works but (as I remember) not always. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager-applet in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1455662 Title: nm-applet icon disappears from menu bar requiring 'sudo service network-manager stop; sudo service network-manager start' to get back. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1455662] Re: nm-applet icon disappears from menu bar requiring 'sudo service network-manager stop; sudo service network-manager start' to get back.
Some package-upgrades cured the problem? Or, it was a slight change in apt-get configuration what helped? (For example, disablink backports repository?) Today (and that is not the first case as I remember) the nm-applet started and is working properly. Remained in the panel. Moreover, it connected (via the HSDPA modem) automatically, no manual clicking was necessary. In the past, it always required to manually click to connect to the internet. I hope it will keep this behaviour and willo not start crashing (aborting).
I have Xubuntu, with 3G modem internet (mobile broadband). When I did a release-upgrade from 14.10 to 15.04, the nm-applet icon permanently disappeared. (After the lightdm logon, the nm-applet is visible for a few seconds, but then disappears.) "sudo service network-manager stop && sleep 10 && sudo service network-manager start" does NOT get it back. Rebooting neither. The "sudo nmcli connection up XX" works, this is the only way to access the internet. $ sudo nm-applet (nm-applet:3579): nm-applet-WARNING **: Cannot grab information for modem at /org/freedesktop/ModemManager1/Modem/0: No ModemManager support (nm-applet:3579): nm-applet-WARNING **: ModemManager is not available for modem at /org/freedesktop/ModemManager1/Modem/0 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager-applet in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1455662 Title: nm-applet icon disappears from menu bar requiring 'sudo service network-manager stop; sudo service network-manager start' to get back. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1404068] Re: No internet connection with Huawei E3272 4G modem
I have tried to use that page, but was not helpful (nor especially clear). In *my* lsusb there is no 14fe id, nor 157c id. In my syslog there is a line stating that usb_modeswitch *did* switched the modem - without any udevrules-patching. ("usb_modeswitch: switched to 12d1:1506 on 1/3") (Was it an incorrect switching?..) That I cannot interpret well: "the connection will appear in your panel as it would if you would insert an ethernet cable". I never insert ethernet cables, I have solely the mobile net, in the panel nothing appeared. What I did was: in Network Connections, Add, Mobile Broadband, then either appeared there (in the combo) a "Huawei Broadband device" or such (I have no screenshot), or not - did not seem to matter. In either way, my old modem worked. And the new did not. I selected Hungary, Telenor, "mobilinternet" plan, and disabled roaming (and left all others at the default). Was this method wrong? What would be the appropriate method to set up (add) this modem in network manager? "See the usb_modeswitc_data package for details. [] You may update it" - I have tried to temporarily use my old modem (connect to the network), issue an apt-get update and apt-get install usb_modeswitch_data, but there was no such package, could not search for it, failed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to usb-modeswitch in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1404068 Title: No internet connection with Huawei E3272 4G modem Status in modemmanager package in Ubuntu: New Status in usb-modeswitch package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: There is no internet connection. No luck. Booted from a live vivid pendrive (iso md5sum: 40493fb5d594606908dcda45624161f7). Added a new broadband connection and tried to start it. No internet.
