Keep in mind the nvidia card is setup as computer only, and is not used for graphics. I have an AMD Card on open driver for my video and nvidia card does not have the opengl drivers installed. AMD is set in settings for to be default for DisplayManager and for Gnome. No X threads are running on the NVIDIA-SMI and just want to be clear that card is not the one in use and runs workloads only. Has python threads once in a while, but wayland works good no issue otherwise has for a long time and this app has seeming always displayed wrong size and x,y coordinates upon open at least in Wayland. What i did: add "192.168.1.4 paris.local" in /etc/hosts remove printer from cups, reinstalled it and i finally was able to print on the remote printer! Don't know if this problem is related to cups or avahi ... For anyone who is still having this problem, hopefully this will help you get your webcam working. I was able to get my webcam working and I am using a Dell Precision 7510 Laptop running Ubuntu 18.04.3. 1.) I issued "$dmesg | grep -i camera" in a terminal window and received "uvcvideo 1-11:1.0: Entity type for entity Camera 1 was not initialized!" which landed me here at this website (FYI I am still receiving that message and my camera works... as laurent.pinchart +bugzilla-kernel pointed out already it is a harmless warning). 2) I did a search for "ubuntu uvcvideo" in google and landed on "https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UVC"; which then pointed me to "https://www.berlios.de/software/linux-uvc/#download"; which then pointed me to "http://www.ideasonboard.org/uvc/";. 3) From "http://www.ideasonboard.org/uvc/";, if you scroll down to the bottom of it you will see a Downlaod section. Navigate to the "https://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/How_to_Obtain"; webpage and follow the "Basic" User's Approach instructions. 4) You may be asked to install pre-requisites during the build process. I had to issue the following command "$sudo apt install libproc- processtable-perl". 5) Once build is complete, run "$sudo make install". 6) I installed uvcdynctrl as floe suggested. I don't know if this helped or not sorry... 7) I then found and example file to test if the camera was working from "https://linuxtv.org/downloads/v4l-dvb-apis/uapi/v4l/v4l2grab.c.html";. I saved this file and tried to compile it "$gcc -o v4l2grab v4l2grab.c" and received an error that it couldn't find the libv4l2.h header file. So i searched for it using $sudo find / -name "libv4l2.h" and didn't find it. This led me to believe that I didn't have the v4l2 development library installed so I installed it $sudo apt install libv4l-dev. 8) I searched again and found it! I then set C include environment path variable to point to the directory containing the header file $export C_INCLUDE_PATH=/usr/include/ and changed #include "../libv4l/include/libv4l2.h" to just #include "libv4l2.h" 9) Tried to recompile and got a linking error, so I issued $gcc -o v4l2grab v4l2grab.c -lv4l1 -lv4l2 and waula, it compiled. Changed its permssions to be executable $chmod +755 v4l2grab (using octal format where 7 in binary is 111 corresponding to rwx for owner and 5 or 110 rw- for group and other) and ran it ./v4l2grab where then I saw the .ppm files in the directory where the executable was ran from, but this was not good enough I want live feed. 10) I then installed v4l-utils and ran $v4l2-ctl -d /dev/video0 --list- formats-ext. This gave me the parameters that are compatible with my webcam for video capture (width=1280, height=720, format=MJPG, and device index=0). 11) As a final death blow I ran the following v4l2-ctl -V --set-fmt-video=width=1280,height=720,pixelformat=MJPG --stream-mmap --stream-count=-1 --stream-to=test.jpg -d /dev/video0 but only got a single image. I think you need to incude OpenCV. Public bug reported: I have nm-openvpn configured via the network manager gui on Xenial with a saved password. My organization has a password expiration policy of X days. If I forgot to update the saved password for nm-openvpn and try to VPN in, nm-openvpn tries the connection, fails without notice in the UI and retries until I stop it. Still Happens in 4.10.0-38-generic. I love ubuntu so much that I have installed as second operating system in my macbook pro. Restarting NetworkManager didn't work for me. DNS lookups for my network would fail REFUSED if queried against 127.0.1.1(dnsmasq) but work fine if I queried google's dns 8.8.8.8. I left, and when I came back, my computer was in sleep mode. when I woke it up, the file operation box and progress bar was not there, as if it was finished, but the file was much smaller than it should have been (because it was not finished copying). I tried to copy it again, but the progress bar was not moving again, and it would not copy. The computer should not automatically go into sleep mode when it is in the middle of doing something (like a transmission download, a large file operation, watching a movie or listening to songs, etc). This is something I would expect from vista. It seems very slow to even display the windows, then it sits there for a while, then everything disappears and the "Firefox has crashed" window comes up. The most recent version of FF available to me is now 39. Just today, I thought of invoking FF from a terminal, to see if any useful messages would be displayed. (Yes, I should have thought of it long before!) In fact, there was: twice, "out of memory:" was displayed, with a different number of "bytes requested" (once with "0x00165159" (1462617), the other time with "0x0023FFE3" (2359267) ) The last time, "Assertion failure: [unhandlable oom] Failed to allocate object while tenuring., at /build/firefox-D3pzHr/firefox-39.0+build5/js/src/jscntxt.cpp:1195" was printed. "Failed to allocate object" smacks of not enough memory, also...(although I have no idea what the rest of the message means...) I used htop to try to track memory usage as FF was being loaded, after all windows were started (trying to do it before is useless, as it just displays them on top of htop and I cannot see it). I have 4GB of memory. Anyway, htop shows about 650MB in use before FF 28, then as it loads, it goes up to ~1800MB, then drops back to ~1400MB. with FF39, it is over 3000MB when FF crashes, then of course drops back down. This is with the exact same number of windows (8) and tabs (many). Why would FF 39 need ~2350MB, when FF 28 only needs ~1150MB. Bug description:
When in a website (facebook, dx.com...) using the scroll in the mouse, the
page blinks and shakes. It is not an hardware issue for sure (bad mouse
wheel...) because only happens here and it was in a change of a firefox update.
It is confusing because it seems that is blinking between old and new (scroll
and non-scroll) web page, and only activates with the scrolling, so far I
didn't notice with pulling side bar up and down, only with mouse wheel. It
happens time to time.
Started in one of the new updates, at max 2 updates ago.
PS: Just happened in this page of report. goes up and down very quickly (1 or
2px up and down), like shivering, and then stops.

Email in these accounts are downloaded by IMAP over SSL, and the SMTP outgoing is using the "TLS-if-available" option. Account1 is the default account. When I log on to TBird I type in the password and all is fine. Account2 is another account. I typed in the wrong password, and then TBird showed me the list of folders under that account as Account2 -> Inbox -> Trash, and that is all. There are no messages in the inbox or anywhere else, and none of the expected folders appear. This is reasonable considering that I have not properly logged in. What is not very reasonable is that I cannot fix the error, by just clicking "Get Mail" to encourage TB to prompt me for the account password again. Instead, it simply reports "There Are No New Messages On the Server" in the status bar. This isnt really true --- it has no idea if there are no new messages. It should at least be honest and say something like, you are not logged in so I cannot get new mail for you. And then it should allow me to log in properly. Another thing you can do is send a HUP signal and have it behave like apache where it seemlessly reloads the config and continues to operate.. Then agian the apache model is far different than this. I have my printers' error policy set to 'retry-job', expecting the
system to keep on trying to print jobs. In stead, probably after a few
attempts, but within several minutes (possibly 5), the printer is put
in the disabled state ('enabled' is not marked in system-config-
printer > Policies dialog).
I have two common (for me) use-cases for my expected behaviour. One is
printing from my laptop in the train, and having the jobs sent to the
printer when connecting to the network at work. The other is printing
form my laptop at home downstairs, and then going upstairs to switch
on the (network) printer.
I'm running system-config-printer 0.7.81 on a fully updated Ubuntu

Since a while (I can't tell the exact point, since I've just noticed it) I can't drag tabs in chrome and firefox (to re-order tabs) anymore. I am sure in one thing: it works in oneiric at least, since I have a machine running oneiric. If I try to drag a tab in firefox (version 13, not from ubuntu but installed "manually"). The twist: I use firefox from another machine (running hardy) but via ssh X11 redirection. However, chrome is running on the local machine. In firefox if I drag a tab, nothing happens: I can see the translucent image of the page and I can drag it, I can't "dock" it between the tabs, if I release the mouse button, the image just "jumps back". With chrome, again: I can see the translucent image, and I can drag it, but again, I can't "dock" it, if I release the mouse button it creates a new window instead of docking among the already existing tabs in the already existing window at the desired position. It seems that locally launched firefox 13 (from ubuntu repo!) works however. Also tab re- arraning eg in geany seems to be OK. Btw, composite effects are enabled via gconf in metacity. Steps I did to create the bug: 1. Start a terminal window 2. Maximise it on the 1600x1200 screen 2. Move it to half of the 1920x1080 screen. 3. The bug should have created itself. The line with the cursor on it should be off the screen, but it should still act as if it's there. Naturally I have moved on. I have installed 13.10 and sinced jumped to xubuntu-desktop (because I use the Alt key). At present I am using NVidia. This is still significantly broken for laptops with external monitors. It worked under Unity, but the UI decisions and bugs in that are intolerable. For reference, the main problem with the NVidia driver is that, when booting (a T61) port replicated external monitor, it uses both screens for the login screen. And, yes, it fixes the login and controls to the closed laptop screen. For me, I can just leave the settings and type my password in the unseen display. After some mouse movement the desktop sorts itself out after logon. So I could try the 13.10 Nouveau if you like, but other than that this bug has been left unsolved and too stale to address. Nouveau and nVidia affected. There are multiple bug reports and partial fixes on various web sites. Problem: Nouveau driver is fundamentally broken for some configurations. In particular, I am using *** a large (1920x1200) monitor via a port replicator ***. It seems to work on the built-in LCD, and when in crippled lower-resolution modes. However, it is difficult to configure to a persistently crippled mode of operation. The symptoms are breakdown of video and system crash. NVidia driver for these machines is useless (obviously I am pretty stupid trying to use old hardware like this). In particular, the NVidia driver was always junk when using a port replicator. In this setup (12.04 etc) one has to tediously reconfigure the entire display setup everytime, and such things as the wallpaper are broken even then. Basically, I never found the NVidia driver to be any good for anything but the built-in LCD. Put another way, the NVidia driver was dreadful for port replicators, and now that the Nouveau driver crashes all the time users are regretting upgrading to 12.04. The Nouveau 10.04 LTS drivers at this date (ie 2012/08/06) were just fine.
