Title:
WiFi connection is asking for 13 letter password

Status in “network-manager-applet” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
When connection to wireless network the Connect button is disabled
unless you enter 13 characters. But my WiFi password (wpa) is 8
letters only. Tried filling up with spaces to enable button, but then
network refused connection. (I'm using ethernet cable now).

It happened two times so far and - if I remeber well - after kicking
in the connection with a cable, (then pulling it out) I can type my 8
letter password and it accepts it. I don't dare trying it right now,
I'm afraid of losing what I've typed in. :-)

Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS (64 bit) - Unity interface

http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF06a/321957-321957-64295-3740644-3955548-5086719.html?dnr=1
  AMD E-450 config

I don't remeber installing any packages that could affect networking.
All available (as of today) updates are installed.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1093294] Re: WiFi connection is asking for 13 letter password

2012-12-24 Thread Marius Kotsbak
Please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging
information, in a terminal:
apport-collect 1093294

Also add a screenshot of the dialog with a visible dummy password of 8
characters (you can just add a new dummy connection). I did not
reproduce the problem here, the save button was enabled as soon as I had
entered 8 characters, but I have a newer version than you have.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1093294] Re: WiFi connection is asking for 13 letter password

2012-12-24 Thread Adam Horvath
Hey Marius!

I don't think apport-collect would do it. There's been no
error/exception in the system, nothing halted just a button was
disabled.

BUT! I'll change the password of my WiFi and see what happens when it
asks for the key.

(Tried apport-collect but failed: Application error. Unauthenticated
user POSTing to page that requires authentication.)

Anyways,
Soon I'll try reproducing error, then using apport.

Thank for your help!
Merry Christmas
Adam

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this
bug as a bug in network-manager-applet.

Please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging
information, in a terminal:
apport-collect 1093294

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.
