[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1235563] Re: HP DeskJet 930C fails during print; USB-to-Parallel - not detected by HPLIP

2023-04-18 Thread Charles McCrobie
My old HP2100M will work with the CUPS foomatic drivers over usb-to-
parallel, but is exceptionally SLOW...

've made changes to the musb.c to recognize and work with the Prolific
usb-to-parallel adapter to drive my older HP 2100M.

Your-mileage-may-vary.

Prolific is a usb-to-parallel adapter with vendor=0x67b / product=0x2305

Attached code for version HPLIP-3.23.3 - io/hpmud/musb.c only. Not sure
how to do a patch.

>From high level:
1. Obtain the printer model, serial number from the printer/usb endpoint
itself and not the prolific's usb enumeration
2. Clear the halt when closing the raw data channel if talking to the prolific

Bug description:
  Hello,
This printer is detected in Ubuntu/CUPS, however it will not actually print
anything succesfully. It prints about half the page and then has an error and
stops printing altogther leaving the page in a half-inky mess. The printer
works perfectly on Windows XP etc.
I ran hp-check and was unable to get this device detected properly by HPLIP

USB-to-Parellel port: Bus 004 Device 002: ID 067b:2305 Prolific Technology,
Inc. PL2305 Parallel Port

Useful config files attached. HP-Check Notes: dbus and libusb are
installed but not detected. I also added my username to the lp and
lpadmin group, which appears perfeclty in users & groups but keeps
throwing an error on lp group for me regardless.

  I read here: http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/62523/how-to-
  install-a-printer-that-is-connected-via-an-usb-to-parallel-port-

work, but it didn't look like the correct way of doing it. So I am
hoping someone will be able to properly debug this issue.

  Thanks in advanced! :)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1235563] Re: HP DeskJet 930C fails during print; USB-to-Parallel - not detected by HPLIP

2018-09-04 Thread gf
Hello G4jc,
Thank you for submitting this bug and reporting a problem with hplip. You made
this bug report some time ago and Ubuntu and hplip have been updated since
then.

Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the
ticket?
If it is still a problem, are you still interested in finding a solution to
this bug?
If you are, could you let us know and, in the current version, could you run
the following (only once):
apport-collect 1235563
and upload the updated logs and and any other logs that are relevant for this
particular issue.

Thank you again for helping make Ubuntu and hplip better.

2013-10-12 Thread Till Kamppeter
G4JC, thank you for the additional info. If HP does not introduce
support for their printers through USB-Parallel adapters, stay with
your current solution to print through CUPS (usb backend). Do not try
to set up your printer via hp-setup or with the hp backend (HPLIP in
device selection of system-config-printer).

2013-10-11 Thread Till Kamppeter
As far as I know HPLIP does not support printers through USB-Parallel
adapters.

To the HPLIP developers at HP: Is this the case? What about adding such
support?

G4JC, which version of Ubuntu are you using? Can you try a live CD/USB
stick of a newer version?
