[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1324693] Re: Hang on import of pdf files

2019-03-06 Thread Qantas94Heavy
As I can't reproduce this issue with 0.92.4 and this bug has not had any
response for several years, I'm closing this bug.

If you have a similar bug and there isn't already one, file a new bug
report at https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inbox/issues. Thank you!

Hang on import of pdf files

Status in Inkscape:

Status in inkscape package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Inkcsapce daily build (ppa) installed on Kubuntu 12.04 hangs evrytime
while importing a pdf file. It does not depend on the file and the
dialog to preview the file is not opened. The program just frezes.

The output on the terminal is:
  (inkscape:3367): Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_widget_get_visible: assertion
`GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed

I have poppler .26 installed (self compiled) and okular, kile (live
preview of pdf), Scribus and GIMP (import pdf) working fine.

I cant even compile inkscape with poppler 0.26 and I get a lot of
errors (but this is not the same bug I think).

  Thanks for helping...

Stanislav, are you still using Ubuntu 12.04? If so, would you be willing
to undo your local poppler upgrades and install Inkscape 0.91 from PPA?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1324693] Re: Hang on import of pdf files

2016-06-05 Thread su_v
> Are we sure the bug was in Poppler?

No. But there is no test case, nor AFAICT a known way to test under the
same circumstances (which are in parts unknown - e.g. into which prefix
was the user-compiled poppler version installed? which poppler version
was inkscape trunk installed from PPA actually attempting to load?).

I was mistaken about stable Inkscape 0.91 though - the project does indeed
offer 0.91 for 12.04 via PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~inkscape.dev/+archive/ubuntu/stable
If the reporter still uses (K)Ubuntu 12.04, it might be worthwhile to undo any
local poppler upgrades, install Inkscape 0.91 from PPA and retest PDF import,
relying on poppler installed via package manager (i.e. the same version against
which the PPA build is compiled).

OTOH we do have similar reports against stable 0.91 (on newer distros) which
are still open (it's a crash though instead of hang that also occurs even
before the PDF import dialog is opened):
bug #1584659 and duplicate bug #1584659

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1324693] Re: Hang on import of pdf files

2016-06-05 Thread su_v
Based on the reporter's description:
> Inkcsapce daily build (ppa) installed on Kubuntu 12.04 hangs
> evrytime while importing a pdf file.
and
> I have poppler .26 installed (self compiled)
as well as
> I cant even compile inkscape with poppler 0.26

Any official Inkscape package would have to be recompiled to use a newer
(or different) version of poppler - if the user replaced poppler
installed by the system, any inkscape version would have to be
recompiled with the new locally installed poppler version. JFTR: Ubuntu
12.04 provides poppler 0.18.4 (
http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise/libpoppler19 ).

Support for Inkscape trunk PPA for Ubuntu 12.04 ended 2015-02-11 -
there's no way to further investigate the reporter's issue. Proposing to
closing the report (outdated, Inkscape 0.91 and later are not supported
on Ubuntu 12.04).
