Title:
  gedit hangs opening .pdb files

Status in “gedit” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
I think gedit has problem opening Protein Data Bank files (.pdb)

If gedit is launched from the terminal this two messages appear when
  gedit hangs

(gedit:1969): GtkSourceView-WARNING **: Could not find word to remove
in buffer (THR), this should not happen!

(gedit:1969): GtkSourceView-WARNING **: Could not find word to remove
in buffer (ATOM), this should not happen!

"THR" and "ATOM" are strings present in the .pbd files

gedit become unresponsive and in few seconds the memory usage of gedit is
more than 1 Gb (according to system monitor) and hence all programs become
unresponsive. The only "solution" is to kill gedit or force shutdown of Ubuntu.
The problem seems to be random and not related to the size of the file.
Reloading and open file also (sometimes) hangs gedit.

2012-02-14 Thread aloctavodia
I believe is not a specific pdb file that causes the hanging it seem to
be ramdom. I will try to force the bug opening several pdb files and I
will attach those pdb.

Could you please attach a PDB file, which causes the problem? I've tried
some - and they work perfectly in gedit 3.3.3

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 931213] Re: gedit hangs opening .pdb files

2012-02-13 Thread aloctavodia
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 624076 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/624076

I recently notice that the problem has nothing to do with the following
error:

(gedit:1969): GtkSourceView-WARNING **: Could not find word to remove in
buffer (ATOM), this should not happen!

I get this message for other pdb files but gedit does not hangs. The
gedit problem is seems to be caused by other error, hence this bug is
not a duplicate of bug #624076 and also I only detect this problem when
opening pdb files.
