[Desktop-packages] [Bug 991003] Re: Even if the keyring password is same as system password, gnome-keyring asks every time on login

2012-08-23 Thread Costales
I'm very agree with Steve. If I have 'mypassword' as password for the keyring
and user from a fresh install, why must I have to enter my same password 2
times in each login (for the login & keyring)?
If the password is the same, the keyring must be unlocked in automatic mode. In
other way, you can search in Google and all users will unencrypted the keyring
for skip this really stupid behavior.
Best regards.
PD: I think this bug isn't invalid.

Title:
Even if the keyring password is same as system password, gnome-keyring
  asks every time on login

Status in “gnome-keyring” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
After reading on Google I found that setting the keyring password to
the same password as the system password, gnome-keyring is not
supposed to ask for the password, even if automatic login is selected.
If I try to use the same password as my system password, it asks every
time on login. The only way I was able to get rid of it was to not
set any password, thus leaving my information unencrypted. I'd rather
  not leave my information unencrypted.

If I delete the 'default' keyring, Ubuntu One loses my login
information. If I enter any password (even the same one as my system
password) it asks me every time on login. According to what I've
read, it shouldn't. Only if I leave it blank (which I would prefer
not to do) it will leave me alone.

I'm running a fresh, clean install (not an upgrade) of 12.04 LTS.

2012-05-03 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Sorry but your comment are still confusing, do you use autologin or
password login? Not sure either what to think about the "I'm surprised
anything gets done."...

No need to open a new bug, that one will do

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 991003] Re: Even if the keyring password is same as system password, gnome-keyring asks every time on login

2012-05-02 Thread Steve Sydney
You misread what I was trying to say. What I was reading is that if the
system password is the same as the keyring password it's not supposed to
ask for the keyring password. This is supposed to be a workaround for
people who use automatic login.

Read this article:
https://one.ubuntu.com/help/faq/how-do-i-get-rid-of-the-keyring-password-prompt/

My issue is that even if my system password is the same as the keyring
password, it still asks.

I'm glad we have you on top of bugs. I'm surprised anything gets done.

Can you re-open this bug or do I have to file a new one?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 991003] Re: Even if the keyring password is same as system password, gnome-keyring asks every time on login

2012-04-30 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug report, not sure where you read that "gnome-
keyring is not supposed to ask for the password, even if automatic login
is selected", but that's not true.

If the keyring could be unlocked by a programatic way without your input
it would mean that any program could unlock it the same way and that
your password keyring would be useless...

You simply can't have a password that a software can "guess for you" and
which is secure, those are just conflicting goals
