[Desktop-packages] [Bug 591895] Re: removing a keyboard layout is not persistent across reboots
Last time I tried with Oneiric beta 1, it was still there. The problem is that if I scroll with keyboard through keyboard layouts during the installation, Ubuntu just freezes, and I have to restart the installation. It happened to me few times. I think the "workaround" is to slide with mouse directly to the keyboard needed, so that's the first and only one selected. Because of this, I decided to use default keyboard layout and to add Bosnian later. But, I then had this issue. It happened few times, and I consider this a bug. I couldn't use what was recommended here on 10" screen netbook. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/591895 Title: removing a keyboard layout is not persistent across reboots Status in GDM: The Gnome Display Manager: New Status in GNOME Control Center: New Status in Gnome Settings Daemon: New Status in The Linux Mint Distribution: New Status in “gdm” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “gnome-settings-daemon” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center At install time I wrongly selected the "German Lower Sorbian (QWRTZ)" layout. I just have a small work-around: If it is possible (RAM > 2GB), you can set the swappiness lower. I expect Jockey is getting confused by the presence of the Intel graphics device. Note it is a good thing it fails! This is a MUX-less system, for which the AMD graphics device won't work. If it succeeded, the graphics would fail on reboot. So there appropriate way forward may /not/ be to 'fix' the xorg.conf generation. ** Affects: jockey (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete -- Running on an Intel/AMD hybrid system, fglrx installs, but is not properly enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/850220 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to jockey in Ubuntu. -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Desktop-packages] [Bug 34813] Re: gedit fails to save files over smbfs/cifs
This bug also effects the geany editor when saving over cifs. 1. Open a file and modify it 2. Save it 3. Modify it some more 4. Save 5. BAM! File has been modified dialog. Usually the time difference between local and remote is 1 second. My cifs server is Ubuntu 10.04 and my client machine is 10.10. Anyone know of a workaround? So, whenever Unity is being used with the global menu bar: * the "Window Selection" section of the "Window Preferences" window should be hidden * the "Select windows when the mouse moves over them" option should be treated as if it was off. I rebooted and it came up nicely. After that I did "apt-get update" and "apt-get dist-upgrade" to get the most recent fixes and installed some additional software. Now I do not seem to be able to boot. Fist I see: Waiting for network configuration... Then I see: Waiting up to 60 more seconds for network configuration... And then it just hangs forever displaying the following: Booting system without full network configuration... Nothing happens after that, no matter how long I wait. However, I can switch to the console with CTRL-ALT-F1 and log in from there. The network is configured with DHCP and it works just fine from the console. I do not understand what the GUI boot display is waiting for. I installed the system using the alternate install CD to get LVM based partitions with full disk encryption. I noticed the bug #847782 and removed the "auto eth0" entry from my /etc/network/interfaces. Unfortunately that did not change anything, it still hangs forever. Just for more informations sake, using g_object_unref instead of gfree avoids the crash, as does not calling g_list_free_full at all and so not double freeing. None of these work, whether or not Assistive Technologies is currently running and whether or not orca is currently running. WHAT I EXPECT TO HAPPEN: I should be able to configure a shortcut to any of these actions, such as Ctrl-Alt-A to the Toggle magnifier action. Then, pressing, Ctrl-Alt-A will start the magnifier. WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS: I am able to modify the entry in the gnome- keybindings-properties window, but pressing the designated key does not perform any action. That is, the magnifier does not open. Changing the hotkeys for other actions works okay. WHY THIS IS BAD: This is confusing and misleading behavior, and can be especially damaging for people who need the accessibility features. Ideally, the keybindings should be fixed, but otherwise they should be removed from the dialog. This is true under up-to-date Lucid 10.04 tested on several systems. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 872873] Re: Printing duplex in reverse order doesn't work properly HP Officejet Pro 8500
Alexander, I could reproduce your problem on Oneiric, so no further files/data are needed from you for now. The problem cannot be solved by doing changes in CUPS, it has to be solved by a fix in LibreOffice. To fulfill your print settings, reverse order and duplex, LibreOffice sends the pages starting with the last page and terminating with the first, to get the reverse order, and for duplex it sends the job with the duplex attribute according to the PPD file of the printer. CUPS does not know about that the job is reverse order. It simple gets a deck of pages and prints them in the order in which they come. The duplex attribute is passed on to the driver and the driver sends a command to the printer to print the pages double-sided. CUPS cannot know that the first page it gets is a front side and not a back side of the sheet, it does not know that the last page is page 1 which has to be a front side. Possible solutions: 1. (Recommended) LibreOffice should not execute reverse order by itself but instead it should send the pages in their original order (page 1 first) and send the job with the reverse-order attribute for CUPS (you do not find it in the PPD, it is and option provided by the CUPS filters, it is "OutputOrder=Reverse"), simply added to the PPD options. Then CUPS has full control about the page management and knows that this is a job which is printed double-sided, in reverse order, and with an odd number of pages. This way CUPS will know to print a blank page before it starts printing the job starting with its last page. 2. LibreOffice could precede such jobs with a blank page. This is AFAIK what evince does. In general, page management (reverse order, selected pages, even/odd pages, N-up, multiple copies, collate, ...) should get concentrated at one point, preferably CUPS and not be done partially by the application and partially by CUPS. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/872873 Title: Printing duplex in reverse order doesn't work properly HP Officejet Pro 8500 Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: When using the duplex mode and printing backwards I've always got an empty page as the first page when printing documents with an impair number of pages (3, 5 and so on). Nautilus crashes when browsing "/" (aka file system root). Open Nautilus from unity launcher, click on "File System" on left panel to browse the root. Click on any root directory, and nautilus crashes. 2. Nautilus crashes when view hidden files is enabled. Open Nautilus from unity launcher, enable view hidden files, and click on any folder to view it, and nautilus crashes. 3. Nautilus crashes when another tab is opened. Open Nautilus from unity launcher, middle click any folder on the left panel. Click on the newly open tab to browse it and nautilus crashes. 4. Please reassign as appropriate. The GNOME default API, as reported by the Appearance control does not match the DPI as reported by xpdyinfo (which, at least for my configuration, is collected from edid information from my screen). As a result, the fonts are sized oddly for the screen, and there is a marked difference in scaling between GTK+ applications and tk or base X applications. Changing the DPI in the Appearance control (Appearance...Fonts...DPI) to match the value reported by xpdyinfo makes the interface look much crisper. Ideally this wouldn't be done manually: rather the current session would default to the value reported by X when the session began, and applications would scale appropriately. Users interested in larger / smaller fonts would adjust the font size, without needing to worry about the physical screen specifications. But when I insert the media again, nothing happens, except, that the DVD-Drive disappears from the "computer:///" location in nautilus. This problem only exists when burning On-The-Fly. Burning ISO Images or automatic creation of ISO Images before burning works without problems. The burning speed doesn't matter to this problem. I test 8x, 4x and 2x. All the same problem. On-The-Fly burning using K3B works quite well @8x speed. One thing I also notice is, that Brasero uses 100% CPU on one core, while K3B uses just about 5-15%. I attached the last Brasero log. I don't know, why it just says, that it was only at 49% and then says it's finished. The burning took about 28 minutes. The media was unusable on all my three devices (Linux/Windows). However the system doesn't seem to respond to that keyboard combination at all. Pressing ALT+PrtSc on a default Maverick install does nothing. Indeed attempting to _set_ that keyboard shortcut in the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog results in it not being registered. Workaround: sudo sysctl -w kernel.sysrq=0 Steps to reproduce:- 1) Try to screenshot the entire desktop with PrtSc - this works 2) Try to take a screenshot of one active window with ALT+PrtSc - nothing happens. Additionally 1) Navigate to System -> Preferences -> Keyboard Shortcuts 2) Scroll down to Desktop -> Take a screenshot of a window, and then click that line in order to set a keyboard shortcut for the action 3) Press ALT+PrtSc - nothing happens 4) Press a different keyboard combination such as CTRL+PrtSc or Super/Windows+PrtSc - this works Additionally 1) Open a terminal 2) Run 'xev' and then press ALT+PrtSc. Observe data in the xev terminal window when ALT is pressed, but nothing for ALT+PrtSc Seems a fairly critical regression bug given we document this keyboard shortcut in the help, and it's very commonly used by documenters and people getting support. It works fine in previous releases. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 655713] Re: Logic needed to disable built in pointing devices when external devices are connected

These are often very frustrating as just brushing against them, or in some cases even just moving a hand over them can trigger a mouse movement or click event. This is especially frustrating when the user is using an external pointing device such as a bluetooth or wireless mouse. Windows has provided the functionality to disable onboard pointing devices when an external mouse is connected/attached, Ubuntu should as well. This is a welcome feature in Windows that saves a lot of hassle. Currently, I have to manually disable my onboard trackpad, which leads to issues should my mouse drop connection for whatever reason. It would be awesome if Ubuntu could recognize that external mouse and turn off the trackpad, then turn the trackpad back on when the mouse has been detached. Just a wishlist item for Natty.
