[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2059797] [NEW] Other Software shows extra comment for Ubuntu distribution repository

2024-03-29 Thread Jeremy Bícha
Public bug reported:

That comment should not show. Selecting the entry and clicking Edit allows
adjusting the main Ubuntu repository source settings which should not be
allowed there since it is already possible to do that from the Ubuntu Software

Nevermind, that turned out to be a red herring, using the latest linux

solves both the audio and the microphone!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2055148] Re: NetworkManager connections with an explicit DoT (DNS over TLS) are not supported with Netplan

2024-03-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package netplan.io - 1.0-2

---
netplan.io (1.0-2) unstable; urgency=medium

  [ Lukas Märdian ]
  * Versioned dep on meson >= 1.3.0 for python.limited_api (Closes: #1066889)
  * d/control: downgrade python3-rich to Recommends.

  [ Danilo Egea Gondolfo ]
  * debian/netplan.io.preinst.
Add a preinst maintainer script for netplan.io to cleanup .pyc cached
files. Due to these files, the directory /usr/share/netplan/netplan is
not being removed after the python3-netplan package split. By removing
these files (and __pycache__ directories), dpkg can remove the old
directory during upgrade.
  * d/p/0002-parse-nm-add-a-workaround-for-the-DoT-DNS-option.patch.
Workaround to prevent parse-nm to generate invalid DNS entries in the
resulting YAML if SNI is used. (LP: #2055148)

  From: https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/blog-netplan-developer-
  diaries/35932/11

  Hi all,

  NetworkManager connections with an explicit DoT (DNS over TLS)
  configuration are not supported with Netplan, but NetworkManager does
  feed back the DoT DNS info with server address and Server Name
  Indication (SNI) in the form server_address#SNI, e.g.
  1.2.3.4#dns.myhome.com as nameserver addresses to Netplan. As a
  result, subsequent Netplan config applications fail because DNS
  servers don’t have the expected dotted decimal (IPv4) or colon’ed hex
  (IPv6) form.

  ```
  nmcli> describe ipv4.dns
  === [dns] ===
  [NM property description]
  Array of IP addresses of DNS servers. For DoT (DNS over TLS), the SNI server
name can be specified by appending "#example.com" to the IP address of the DNS
server. This currently only has effect when using systemd-resolved.
  ```

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2033195] Re: No sound on ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 16 G634JZ

2024-03-29 Thread Daniel Berlin
Doing this "right" requires kernel patch (attached).
This will work on 2024 model JZR.
A similar version will work on 2023 if you add the right subsystem ids[1] to
the patch.

You can also work around this by creating /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
and adding

options snd-hda-intel model=1043:1caf

and then rebooting.

(For those following along at home, don't try this on anything but a G634J
model unless you know what you are doing. The Cirrus windows driver inf reuses
the 1caf model tunings, and has a comment saying this is explicitly correct -
the newer G634 just have a different speaker vendor, but reuse the tunings/etc
from the older model )

[1] lspci -nn -v and look for the subsystem id:

:00:1f.3 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation Raptor Lake High Definition
Audio Controller [8086:7a50] (rev 11) (prog-if 80)
DeviceName: Onboard - Sound
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Device [1043:3a60]

Replace the 10433a60 in the patch with the right subsystem id.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2059817] Re: Image viewer renders SVG improperly

2024-03-29 Thread Stephen T Satchell
In further tests, I find that Chrome, Firefox, and LibreOffice Draw
renders the image correctly. Of course, the image was created in
InkScape, so it's rendering is also as expected.

Dia displays an error when loading the image. Document Viewer: SVG not
supported. GIMP screws up exactly the same way. ImageMagick doesn't
even try to render the text.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2059817] Re: Image viewer renders SVG improperly

2024-03-29 Thread Stephen T Satchell
In discussing this bug with a friend, he reminded me that, in the "flash
and escape" phototypesetters, when you wanted to change the aspect ratio
of a letterform, you has to set anamorphic magnification. It appears
that InkScape has a habit of using complex scaling algorithms to effect
this anamorphic magnification. This could well be confusing some of the
image renderers. Looking at the XML coding, Inkscape sometimes changes
the font height, then changes Y magnification to compensate. Sometimes
it doesn't. This may be the root cause of the bug.

Any road, the issue is that each letterform in a variable-width font has
an image, and a width value (sometimes called "escapement", harkening
back to the days of the spinning-disk optical phototypesetters where the
paradigk was "flash and escape".) The width values are not being scaled
properly. This is most likely a simple oversight, and if so it's easy
to fix.

  shut down.

  I checked /var/log/syslog and saw the following details -- see (log).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1986468] Re: right click on icon does not always show bookmarks

Seems Nautilus in 24.04 still has the same behavior :

no bookmarks shown when right clicking its icon in dash

unless

nautilus is already running.

  right click on icon does not always show bookmarks

Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Hi,

  Ubuntu 22.04 here.

  A right click on Nautilus icon ( in the dock ) does not always show
  the list of bookmarks ( automatic and manually added ).

  Nautilus has to be already launched and running in order to show that
  list.

  This list of « shortcuts » was ago always accessible on right click -
  in Unity.

  It's a very convenient list of shortcuts, non-intrusive, calm on the
  eyes, and fast.

  On Xorg I may be able to launch Nautilus as a minimized window, using
  xdotools or wmctrl or devilspie.

  On Wayland I don't know how to do that : starting Nautilus as a
  minimized window with my session might be a workaround for that
  missing list.

  But ideally an option for Nautilus to start minimized sounds cleaner (
  but options like -%u or --start-minimized are not offered by Nautilus
  afaik ).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2028819] Re: File-Roller should depend on 7zip package instead of abandoned p7zip-full since version 43

2024-03-29 Thread Jeremy Bícha
The p7zip dependency was Debian-only so there is nothing at all to fix
on the Ubuntu side. Therefore, I am closing this bug.

Bug description:
  File-Roller switched from p7zip to official 7zip utility since version
  43.alpha , see

  and
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/file-roller/-/commit/a4359d11e05023605c4270c67ad703bc8a71f8fd

  but File-Roller Ubuntu/Debian package version 43-1 still depends on abandoned
by upstream p7zip-full, while it should depend on 7zip package instead of
p7zip-full
  or maybe better to have "Depends: 7zip | p7zip-full" ?

  There are lots of bugs in p7zip, for example some large zip files cannot be
extract on 16.02 but can on 9.20, see
https://sourceforge.net/p/p7zip/discussion/383044/ and
  http://bugs.debian.org/src:p7zip also
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/p7zip

  It seems Debian developers planing to replace p7zip-full with official
  7zip package, see https://bugs.debian.org/991428

  Also there is a related note in NEWS file:
   - Distros will want to adjust the `data/packages.match` file.

  Some archive managers in Ubuntu/Debian already depends on official
  7zip package instead of p7zip, see arqiver for example.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2059651] Re: network-manager gets uninstalled on apt full-upgrade

2024-03-29 Thread hiweedmandriva
After run below commands, network-manager is gone

sudo apt -y update --fix-missing
sudo apt -y full-upgrade
sudo apt -y dist-upgrade
sudo apt -y --purge autoremove
sudo apt -y autoclean

To fix this, have to installed these deb files manually

libndp0_1.8-1fakesync1_amd64.deb
libnm0_1.45.90-1ubuntu3_amd64.deb
libteamdctl0_1.31-1build2_amd64.deb

plymouth (24.004.60-1ubuntu6) noble

I get a huge prompt asking my luks-encrypted disk, at early start-up.

Seems to be linked to screen resolution as I experience this bug only on
my 2560x1440 external screen, not the 1900x1200 one. Only 1 monitor is
active in both cases.

** Affects: plymouth (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Low

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2046844] Re: AppArmor user namespace creation restrictions cause many applications to crash with SIGTRAP

2024-03-29 Thread John Johansen
@coeur-noir:

Are you installing firefox to /opt/ as recommended or using it local in
your user account?

as for bwarp, maybe it is known to be problematic. It is allowed to run and to
create a user namespace but it is denied all capabilities within the namespace.

Can you run
  sudo dmesg | grep apparmor

and add the information here.

  [SRU] adsys 0.14.1

Status in adsys package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in adsys source package in Jammy:
  New

Bug description:
  [context]
  ADSys is a tool designed for administering and implementing Group Policy
Objects (GPOs) from Active Directory on Linux systems. It includes a suite of
services and commands that empower administrators to efficiently manage policy
updates and maintain compliance with organizational business rules.

  Given that ADSys directly interfaces with Active Directory and needs
  to align with new business requirements in LTS releases, it has been
  essential to keep the package consistently updated with the latest
  changes of ADSys upstream source. As ADSys is a key component of our
  commercial offerings, our customers anticipate the availability of
  recently implemented features in the 22.04 release.

  Now that ADSys has a complete set of features, the request is to
  proceed with a one-off release of ADSys 0.14.1 to 22.04. Please note
  that any new features introduced in subsequent versions will be
  exclusively available in 24.04 and later releases.

  This version includes a comprehensive end to end automated test suite
  that runs ADSys against a real Active directory environment.

  Version 0.14.1 is available for 22.04 in a PPA
  (https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-enterprise-
  desktop/+archive/ubuntu/adsys) and already used in production by
  customers.

  At this time of writing the number of open issues is 1 in Launchpad
  and 16 in GitHub including 6 enhancements. None of them have a high or
  critical importance.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1559129] Re: Replace defaults.list by mimeapps.list

2024-03-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package gnome-session - 46.0-1ubuntu1

---
gnome-session (46.0-1ubuntu1) noble; urgency=medium

  * Merge with Debian. Remaining changes:
- debian/control.in:
  + Recommend session-migration
  + Move xwayland dependency to gnome-session and make gnome-session
Arch: any
  + Split gnome-startup-applications to a separate binary package so
that it can be uninstalled without breaking the system
  + Add unity-session
- debian/rules: Ensure pot file is generated to translate session files
- Split ubuntu-session out of gnome-session.
- debian/data: Add old-style systemd user session used by Unity
- debian/gnome-session-bin.postinst, debian/gnome-session-bin.prerm:
   Moved registering gnome-session binary as a session manager to
   gnome-session-bin package
- debian/patches/ubuntu/support_autostart_delay.patch:
  + Bugzilla patch to support adding a delay to autostart apps, using
a "X-GNOME-Autostart-Delay" key in the desktop file
- debian/patches/ubuntu/ubuntu_sessions.patch:
  + Add ubuntu sessions
- debian/patches/ubuntu/remove_session_saving_from_gui.patch:
  + Add GNOME_SESSION_SAVE environment variable for people wanting to
use the save session still, knowing that it can break your system
if used unwisely
- debian/patches/ubuntu/add_sessionmigration.patch:
  + launch session-migration if present at the start of the session.
This sync tool runns different session migration scripts that can be
provided in various desktop packages.
- debian/patches/ubuntu/dbus_request_shutdown.patch:
  + Add "RequestShutdown" and "RequestReboot" DBus methods to allow
other applications to shutdown or reboot the machine via the session
manager.
- debian/patches/ubuntu/ignore_gsettings_region.patch:
  + Ignore the "region" gsettings value - users' setting of LC_*
variables saved in ~/.pam_environment.
- debian/patches/revert_remove_gnome_session_properties.patch:
  + Don't merge translations into gnome-session-properties.desktop
- debian/ubuntu-settings-migrate-to-defaults.18.10.1.py:
  + Migrate users using old default ubuntu-settings to current ones
- debian/xdg_dirs_desktop_session.sh: Install a new script into
  /etc/profile.d to prepend a $DESKTOP_SESSION related directory to
  $XDG_{CONFIG,DATA}_DIRS.
  * Drop revert portal change patch: not needed in Ubuntu
  * Mark the Ubuntu sessions as supporting GNOME 46 Remote Login

gnome-session (46.0-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release
  * Add patch to revert portal change since Debian Unstable does not have
GNOME Shell or xdg-desktop-portal-gnome 46 yet
  * gnome-mimeapps.list: several updates for firefox, thunderbird, & gdebi
  * Release to unstable
