Here's the jabber log containing the conversation I referred to in comment #8
when reverting the bug status from 'Committed' to 'Triaged' (starts at

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 733010] Re: Resize page to selection: 'InfinityLine' start/end markers not included

2014-01-24 Thread ~suv
Comment #5:
> The resulting page is a bit larger than the actual bbox of the
> selection/content though.

Testing archived trunk builds on OS X 10.7.5:
- reproduced with rev 10795, 11005, 11007, 11008, 11009
- not reproduced with rev 11500, 11250, 11128, 11072, 11034, 11021, 11010

One of the remaining issues seems to have disappeared with the changes from
revision 11010 (the visual bbox now fits tightly, and page size is set
correctly to the size of the visual bbox of the selection):

Just as summary describes. Repeatable with:

  0. Edit some file.
  1. File → Save a Copy
  2. Choose a filename that already exists.
  3. It will ask "Replace existing file?" Answer "No"
  4. Rename to a new filename and click save.

It saves the new file, but now the *new* file is the active file.
It's like the "No" response returned to the wrong section of code (to
"Save As" as opposed to "Save a Copy")

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 816666] Re: Inkscape complains there may be data loss when closing file saved as Inkscape svgz

2014-01-25 Thread ~suv
> I saved my file as Inkscape svgz and then tried to close it.
> (…)
> Package: inkscape 0.48.1-2ubuntu2

Not reproduced on OS X 10.7.5 with Inkscape 0.47, 0.48.1, 0.48.2,
0.48.3.1, 0.48.4, 0.48+devel r12978.

Steps used in attempts to reproduce:
1) launch inkscape
2) draw a rectangle
3) Ctrl+S
4) choose "Compressed Inkscape SVG (*.svgz)" file format
5) optionally adjust base filename
6) click 'Save' button (file dialog closes)
7) Ctrl+W

Expected result = actual result:
a) stable: Inkscape closes the document window without further prompts and
quits.
b) trunk: Inkscape closes the document without further prompts, but doesn't
quit (it opens a new document based on the default template).

Seems as if the provided information does not include all necessary
steps to reproduce this issue consistently.

nameless palettes show up in inkscape palette selection tool

Status in Inkscape: A Vector Drawing Tool:

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: inkscape

  UPDATED DESCRIPTION 2011-05-11 (AV):
When Inkscape loads a palette file (in GIMP .gpl format), it uses the
contents of the "Name: " header in the file to create a label in the palette
selector. If the "Name: " header is missing, then the palette selector label
remains unset.

Inkscape should handle this situation by providing a fallback, for
example the palette filename or a default string such as "Unnamed
  palette"

  ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION:
At the bottom right corner, the colour palette changer resides. I can change
the palettes as expected, but some palettes show up without a name (but
switching to them changes the palette shown in the bottom line). An
illustrating screenshot is attached.

Deleting ~/.config/inkscape and restarting inkscape does not resolve
  the issue.

I change between two keyboard layouts - Croatian (a typical European
layout where 'z' is located between 'u' and 't') and US. In most
program this works fine, but I noticed that in Inkscape this change
  doesn't affect the Ctrl+Z/Ctrl+Y undo/redo combination. Whether I am
in Croatian or US - the same physical keys perform the undo action
(the 'Croatian' ones (which is my primary layout) - the key between
'u' and 't' does undo). It doesn't manifest in the rest of Inkscape,
though - I can normally write in the chosen layout in e.g. a text box

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 345594] Re: Flowed text displaced following grouping

2015-02-27 Thread ~suv
On OS X 10.7.5: based on tests with current stable and with archived trunk
builds:
- reproduced with Inkscape 0.91 r13725,
- reproduced with Inkscape 0.91+devel rev <= 13934,
- not reproduced with Inkscape 0.91+devel rev >= 13935,
this issue as originally reported seems to have been fixed in rev 13935:
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~inkscape.dev/inkscape/trunk/revision/13935

Remaining issues, or variations which still cause text-flowed.into-frame
being displaced unexpectedly on ungroup should be filed and tracked
separately.

Bug description:
  I am using Ubuntu 8.10 x86_64 and inkscape 0.46-2ubuntu2

The issue is flowed text being transformed differently to its container.
  Steps to reproduce bug;

  1) in a new inkscape document, create two boxes
  2) create two text objects
  3) for each text object, 'flow text into frame' into one of the boxes
  4) group the boxes and their text
  5) move the group to a different position
  6) ungroup

The text does not remain in its flowed container, but is transformed
to a different position (it appears to be in fact transformed by the
same amount as the container - but RELATIVE to the container; i.e. it
effectively gets moved twice). Moving the boxes still affects the
flowed text, but the text is in the wrong position.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1385009] Re: Hangs up on text edit

2015-01-30 Thread ~suv
AFAICT this was reported earlier for Inkscape here:
- Bug #1323061: Inkscape freezes when writing text (Lubuntu, Kubuntu)

Likely related to the same conflict with xim:
- Bug #1257413: Inkscape crashes when trying to modify text

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1403454] Re: Latex Formula crashes with Unrecoverable error: stackunderflow in .setdistillerparams

This is related to bug 1218350, however, adding a wrapper around

  Following http://bugs.ghostscript.com/show_bug.cgi?id=694066#c4 adding
-dColorConversionStrategy=/LeaveColorUnchanged instead fixes it but it
  produces some spurious output:

Just in case: here's a link to instructions how you can add this to the
launcher for inkscape:
http://artblog.mentalguy.net/post/62699485181/psa-how-to-fix-pressure-sensitivity-in-inkscape

(disabling the overlay scrollbars also happens to work around another
conflict in inkscape which prevents pressure sensitivity to work with
tablets on Unity)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1152972] Re: jobs sent by inkscape not printed on Ubuntu 12.04

2015-02-05 Thread ~suv
Closing for project 'inkscape' - likely a known issue with old gtk2
version available on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (2.24.10), see comment #5.

Feel free to reopen if the same printing problem reproduces with current
inkscape (0.91) and a more recent version of gtk2 (>= 2.24.15).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1124954] Re: Inkscape kills some of GTK elements

2015-02-05 Thread ~suv
Closing as invalid - the feedback by the reporter didn't provide any
further useful information, and the known issue [1] is already tracked
elsewhere.

[1] external applications/applets which trigger an export of Inkscape's
clipboard content in various supported output formats, and subsequently
cause Inkscape to produce error messages (similar to the one pasted by
the reporter) from script-based output extensions which for whatever
reason fail to process the temp SVG file holding the clipboard content
(for example because it misses SVG width/height attributes, and has no
layer structure).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1418937] Re: "Import Clip Art" is not working in 0.91

You need gvfs (with http/https support, used via GIO) for this to work.
Not an inkscape issue - AFAIU this is about runtime config of the local
system, and its support for GIO modules (Glib).

(See also bug #943148 - packaging issue for new ocal dialog on osx)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1075705] Re: Printing with default 'Vector' backend fails

2012-11-08 Thread ~suv
@Alex Valavanis - AFAIK (based on
) Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise
Pangolin) installs GTK+ 2.24.10, which would make printing directly from
within Inkscape affected by upstream GTK+ bug #998156: printing via GTK+
cups backend from within Inkscape has been broken since GTK+ 2.24.9, and
all efforts to get the known fix - which had been committed for GTK3
only - backported to upstream GTK2 failed so far (upstream bug breaks
printing on OS X too, for example, which uses the same cups backend).

If you are trying to build with 'cmake', please file a separate report
(and mention 'cmake'): the official build system for Inkscape is based
on Autotools (autogen.sh; configure && make).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 998276] Re: Keyboard shortcuts not appearing in the main menu under Unity

2013-01-21 Thread ~suv
> Would like to see if it works under OS X.

Can't test myself yet with gtk-mac-integration (no patch/branch shared for the
most recent changes (RC3)), but when using the patch with normal per-window
menu of current trunk (all combinations of backends and versions: X11, Quartz,
GTK2, GTK3), the same issue as with the 0.48.x RC3 OS X package occurs: a
conflict between the on-canvas text-editing context and menu shortcuts:

Characters like v,h,D,G,+,-, etc. trigger keyboard shortcuts instead of
being entered as characters into the current text object being edited
on-canvas.

Depending on the theme used, one can also notice that the affected
keyboard shortcuts (accelerators) in the menu entries are differently
colored than the rest (they use the same foreground colours as the menu
item labels, whereas those based on standard gtk menu accelerators may
use a dimmer foreground color than the menu item label itself).

It's even more pervasive than just affecting the text-editing context:
shortcuts also get triggered unexpectedly when trying to enter
alphanumeric characters into spin boxes, or entry widgets, elsewhere in
the GUI (e.g. the zoom presets).

'Ctrl+C', 'Ctrl+V' are "restricted" to objects on-canvas, even if the
user wants e.g. to copy&paste text somewhere in a GUI widget - e.g. a
style property in the XML Editor (originally described by victor on
'inkscape-devel' about the OS X RC3 package:
).

2013-03-01 Thread ~suv

That was not the point of my comment (I have no plans to update libxml2
right now: Ubuntu 12.10 installs libxml2 2.8.0 [1], and libxml2 2.9.0 is
broken on OS X Lion [2]). I only commented the test results to have
additional data in this report which would confirm narrowing it down to
Raring's version, and will refrain from adding further noise here.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 640845] Re: accented characters of CM fonts not available to inkscape

2013-03-03 Thread ~suv
Alex Valavanis wrote on 2010-09-17:

Don't know how typesetting of the accented characters is done in LaTeX,
but wrt to Inkscape: if a certain font does not contain the specific
Unicode symbol / character, the font backend substitutes it from a
different (fallback) font (if available) -> the reporter should probably
first verify whether the TTF files of the mentioned fonts actually
contain those Unicode glyphs.

An quick way to test is to use gtk-demo, and preview the same words with
'Pickers > Fonts' (see attached screenshot with GTK+/X11 2.24.13, fontconfig
2.9.0, freetype 2.4.10, pango 1.30.1, and the cmr10 font downloaded from [1]).
Fontforge can also be used to view the list of available glyphs of a font - it
doesn't show any accented characters either for e.g. the TTF font cmr10.

Likely the ComputerModern Unicode fonts [2] could be used as an
alternative (they do include lots of accented characters).

Proposing to close as 'Invalid' for Inkscape.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 884368] Re: unable to edit attributes in Inkscape XML Editor (Ubuntu overlay-scrollbar issues)

2012-11-19 Thread ~suv
** Description changed:

If I select an attribute in the XML editor, the edit box below shows the
attribute name, not its value. If I change the attribute and hit 'set',
a new attribute is created with this name. There is no apparent way to
change an existing value. I'm using 0.48.2 from Ubuntu Oneiric.

From duplicate Bug #854545 (which had been reported earlier to
'overlay-scrollbar' than this one to 'Inkscape' and has a more precise
description of the problem IMHO):
  > Ideally the overlay scrollbar support could have a minimum-height sanity
check.

The issue affects various widgets and dialogs in Inkscape which do not
use hard-coded minimal px dimension. IMHO it would be better to address
this upstream in Ubuntu's overlay code, than patching Inkscape's code in
various places to insert (hard-coded) minimal dimensions (which might
not adjust to individual theme settings anymore)

  Follow-up reports about individual widgets/dialogs:
Bug #902054 “Some layers should be visible by default in Layers dialog”
Bug #908392 “Initial size of palette dialog on Ubuntu too small Ubuntu”
Bug #909958 “Path Effect List is hidden”

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 830663] Re: default window size is too small

2013-04-13 Thread ~suv
Patch 'fix-bug-830663.patch' tested on OS X 10.7.5 with Inkscape 0.48+devel
r12274:
- GTK+/X11 2.24.13, XQuartz 2.7.4 (xorg-server 1.13.0)
- GTK+/Quartz 2.24.17, (native Quartz backend)

Patch works as expected, though the results vary depending on GTK+
backend / Window manager / GTK+ version (I'm not sure which component is
to blame): launching Inkscape with new (default) prefs and default
template, any new empty document window is maximized immediately.

Details:
- With the X11-based build, the document window can be de-maximized using the
buttons in the windows decoration, and it resizes to the minimal window size it
originally has (i.e. without the patch).

- With the Quartz-based build, the maximized document window cannot be
de-maximized at all: the document window is opened with window
width&height set to max values, but without setting the 'inkscape
:window-maximized' value to 1 in . This is annoying since
users who dislike 'maximized' view have to manually resize each new
document window by grabbing & dragging one of the edges (OS X >= 10.7)
or the bottom-right corner (Mac OS X <= 10.6.8) - requiring much more
efforts than the current state without patch.

Likely the patch exposes an underlying issue in the interaction between
Inkscape and certain window managers.

'Maximize' and 'De-maximize' of a maximized Inkscape document window on OS X -
be it under X11 or with the native backend - has never worked reliably for me,
which might have contributed to me being opposed to defaulting to open in a
maximized state as default setting. Personally, I'm still opposed to such a
default, but won't argue for my POV anymore, since based on the reaction to my
earlier comments (outside the bug tracker), a majority of users seems to prefer
this.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 830663] Re: default window size is too small

Ok, I'll add another comment despite having promised otherwise ;)

@JazzyNico - personally, ofc I would highly appreciate it if this modified
behavior could be optional: For bug triage and dev work, where one needs to
work in multiple windows in parallel (inkscape, terminal, gvim, etc.) at the
same time, defaulting to maximized is inconvenient. However, a global setting
(off by default) is not an ideal solution either for this specific use case
either, since one often has to revert to default new settings when developping
or testing for bugs.

ISTM that there are two basic aspects to consider:

1) New users:
How does Inkscape want to present to new users? Enforce a maximized new
document window for new users, always, as well as for those who never change
the default settings or do not want to deal with maintaining a custom default
template?
A possible side-effect might be that less tech-savvy new users might not easily
discover Inkscape's other capabilities (e.g. that inkscape can display its
document window in other sizes than maximized, too, and remember that size &
position per document (e.g. useful with workflows which involve editing two (or
more) documents displayed side-by-side on the same screen), and that inkscape
has a full screen mode which is often better with regard to screen real estate
than 'maximized').

2) Users with specific workflows, developers, bug triagers:
Should the option be 'hidden' (no GUI in the prefs dialog) to avoid overloading
the preferences dialog?
Maybe a command line switch could be added, allowing to override the global
setting for the current session (also affecting new document windows opened
from within the current session)?

Possibly one of the actual triggers is still the same as what is described in
this comment of (older) bug #1021517 ("crash depends on the fn-f8 combo to
activate/disable the touchpad"):

Xorg crash after clicking on workspace in inkscape

Status in “xorg-server” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Steps to reproduce on my machine:
  1) open inkscape
  2) click anywhere on workspace

  Result:
X dies, back to login prompt

  Expected result:
  nothing should happen

  Details of my setup:

I did not manage to get an Xorg backtrace yet as I don't have a second
maching to do the remote SSH thing.
This bug looks a lot like #1023004, I opened a new one because the old one is
"fix released" with no-one assigned to.

The install is fresh on a new laptop. I have since switched to the
xorg-bleeding PPA, but this did not fix the problem. I am also now
using the trunk PPA of inkscape, without change of behaviour.

Please advise if more information is needed.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 998276] Re: Keyboard shortcuts not appearing in the main menu under Unity

2013-02-12 Thread ~suv
Patch tested successfully with r12119 on Ubuntu 12.10 (with global
menubar), and on OS X (X11 and Quartz-based builds without menubar
integration, see comment #9) - so far, no regressions encountered (only
a few quick tests done for the known and mentioned issues with v1, and
as known from Valerio's Quartz-based RC packages for OS X).

2013-02-19 Thread ~suv
Closing due to lack of feedback by the reporter. Feel free to reopen the
report if this issue still occurs with the latest stable version and
can't be solved by resetting the default font to one actually installed
on the local system (see comment #6).

By default, InkScape 0.48 r9654 tries to use the BitStream Vera Sans
font for the Text tool. But if the font is not installed in the
system, an exclamation symbol is shown next to the font and InkScape
doesn't allow to change to other font (it always falls back again to
BitStream Vera Sans, which is not installed).

Installing the package "ttf-bitstream-vera" fixes the problem, so I
recommend to add that package to the dependencies of InkScape.

  Under Ubuntu 10.10, 64bit.

Status in Inkscape: A Vector Drawing Tool:
  Incomplete
Status in “inkscape” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: inkscape

By default, InkScape 0.48 r9654 tries to use the BitStream Vera Sans
font for the Text tool. But if the font is not installed in the
system, an exclamation symbol is shown next to the font and InkScape
doesn't allow to change to other font (it always falls back again to
BitStream Vera Sans, which is not installed).

Installing the package "ttf-bitstream-vera" fixes the problem, so I
recommend to add that package to the dependencies of InkScape.

  Under Ubuntu 10.10, 64bit.

Bug description:
I have arrived at a file which contains a finely distributed set of
circles and oblongs through a long-winded set of tile and alignment
  operations.

I'd now like to be able to ungroup that set and manipulate the
individual circles and oblongs. However, when I ungroup the set, the
circles and oblongs are thrown all across the canvas.

I've no idea why ungrouping would move items and I think it's a bug.
The minimal, vacuumed file which recreates this bug on my version of
Inkscape is attached. I'll try to install trunk and see if it makes a
  difference.

When saving some svg files in ps or eps formats, the text in the

save a copy reverts to save as

Status in Inkscape: A Vector Drawing Tool:

Status in “inkscape” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: inkscape

Just as summary describes. Repeatable with:

  0. Edit some file.
  1. File → Save a Copy
  2. Choose a filename that already exists.
  3. It will ask "Replace existing file?" Answer "No"
  4. Rename to a new filename and click save.

It saves the new file, but now the *new* file is the active file.
It's like the "No" response returned to the wrong section of code (to
"Save As" as opposed to "Save a Copy")

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1322603] Re: Fonts dialog box

2014-05-23 Thread ~suv
Based on the descriptions it seems that you chose to install (or
compile) an experimental GTK3 build, instead of the regular (still
GTK2-based) version. The issue with the oversized width of the 'Text and
Font' dialog with experimental GTK3 builds is already tracked here:

- Bug #1300275 “GTK3: text options dialog too wide”

Fonts dialog Box-UI (UI=User interface) behave in a strange way.
  - Very buggy when [ALT+X] to pick the desired font. Take to much time to open
the dialog and when open it is very big, or just crash.
  - Oversize the the dialog window when [SHIFT+CTRL+T], the dialog box is to
big, and you can't do nothing.

Apparently the changes in revision 12510

allow current trunk at least to load affected files, despite warning about "not
proper UTF-8".

Not closing the report - the corruption on save still occurs (tested on
Ubuntu 13.04 with r12699 and on OS X 10.7.5 with r12670).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1191490] Re: I can't open any eps file

2013-06-16 Thread ~suv
Possibly you have a conflict with a newer poppler version installed on
your system than the one the (K)Ubuntu 12.04 Inkscape package was
compiled against (possibly as side-effect of installing e.g. GIMP or
Scribus development versions from a custom PPA) - see e.g. bug #1083936.

** Also affects: inkscape (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Tags added: eps importing pdf

** Changed in: inkscape
   Status: New => Incomplete

Bug description:
I am using inkscape dev version on kubuntu 12.04. Whenever I open an
eps file, inkscape crashed. I got this error when I use gdb:

0xb5a078df in Page::createGfx(OutputDev*, double, double, int, bool, bool,
int, int, int, int, bool, bool (*)(void*), void*) ()
 from /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libpoppler.so.28

BTW, the older version open eps files without any problem.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1248174] Re: The Ubuntu colour palette in Inkscape is different from the one in design.ubuntu.com

2014-02-11 Thread ~suv
The patch from comment #12 has nothing in it to address the issue
tracked here (recreate Inkscape's Ubuntu palette (from 2006, see bug
#169711) to match a reduced set of screen colors (RGB in hexadecimal
format) used in current Ubuntu branding (2013)).

Can not confirm this being fixed, tested and issue still reproduced with
Inkscape 0.48+devel r12504 on
- Ubuntu 13.04 (VM 64bit, trunk PPA)
- Ubuntu 12.10 (VM 64bit, local build)
- Ubuntu 12.04 (VM 64bit, trunk PPA)
- OS X 10.7.5 (local builds, up-to-date MacPorts for dependencies)

with two random sample files from the related ports:

Since it apparently works for Martin, it might be of interest for others
to know which OS he used for testing, with which version of libxml2
installed (is it patched by the distribution?), which sample SVG files,
and which local changes to Inkscape trunk are applied that might affect
the tests.

Proposing to revert latest status change and reopen the report.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 426763] Re: Cancelling import leads to error message

2013-09-26 Thread ~suv
The duplicate report
- Bug #1005825 “when deciding not to import a bitmap, Inkscape punishes you”

has been now unlinked from this report because the commit in r12777 only
addresses PDF import. Bitmap import still displays the same error message if
canceled.

** Summary changed:

- Cancelling import leads to error message
+ Canceling PDF import dialog leads to error message
