Re: Management Node Detected

2014-10-13 Thread Daan Hoogland
Mo, I am sure about the procedure to correct it but it looks like the
database contains a line about this MS with a different id then the host
has for itself. Backup the db and delete the entry (or first try just the
id) for the host in one of two tables mshost or mshost_peer. check if ACS
is down on MS no 6 and restart it. I'm not confident on this so you might
want to visit the code first.

Re: Review Request 26482: CLOUDSTACK-7688: Do not allow various operations which breaks VM Snapshots

  Can you explain why you remove the code?
   // remove diskAndMemory VM snapshots

Removed code was removing VM snapshots without user knowing.
Now we are not allowing user to upgrade/scale VM when it has VM snapshots.
So this code will not be doing anything( kind of dead code).

 VM snapshots stops working when following operations are performed on VM with
 VM snapshots

 1. Volumes of VM are migrated to other storage
 2. Add and remove NIC to/from VM
 3. Attach and Detach volume to VM
 4. Scale up/down of VM(change service offering)
 5. Volume snapshot which is not major use case in this scenario
 6. Resize volume
 7. Live migration of VM which involves storage migration
 8. Do not allow VM snapshot in case VM snapshot already exists

 This patche adds the above restrictions

2014-10-13 Thread Daan Hoogland
Xu,

your second question I understand, please refrase the first because I
cannot make anything of it.
The page to folow is
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/CLOUDSTACK/Setting+up+a+CloudStack+dev+environment+on+Windows
if you find errors in there please correct us.

as for the second question; the command should be slightly different, mvn
-pl :cloud-client-ui jetty:run, a space moved.
not -pl: cloud-client-ui but -pl :cloud-client-ui
That is probably a typo or cp artifact.
The file that is missing should be in the same location as your
db.properties file.

it isn't. No new features will be going into any 4.4 release, only

Re: System VM build job slaves are down

2014-10-13 Thread Leo Simons
Hey folks,

The machine building systemvms was originally set up elsewhere (@citrix?).

It had been down for a few months so a few weeks ago Hugo put a new temporary
one in place in our infrastructure.

Before that setup can become permanent (we’re happy to host this) we have to do
some work to shore up the containing environment, and the slave will be offline
until we complete that, which may take 3 weeks or so for us to get to due to,
err, being quite busy :-)

Until then, of course, if someone can bring back up the original slave that has
been offline for a while, that might be worth it.

cheers,

Leo

 get to due to, err, being quite busy :-)

 Until then, of course, if someone can bring back up the original slave

vm.password.length issue in 4.4.1-SNAPSHOT

2014-10-13 Thread Nux!
Hello,

First of all THANKS! to whoever made this feature happen (Ian I guess). Now
we can set more secure passwords generated for our instances.

Second, the feature works, but with a small glitch, the number seems to be
affected by some sort of offset. I.e. if I set the password to be 15 chars in
length then the generated password will actually be 18 chars.
In order to get a 15 chars long passwd I had to set vm.password.length to 12.
Bug or feature? :)

Re: vm.password.length issue in 4.4.1-SNAPSHOT

2014-10-13 Thread Ian Duffy
Hey Nux,

So I passed this work off to a util class that was already present in the
code base PasswordGenerator

@Override
public String generateRandomPassword() {
Integer passwordLength =
Integer.parseInt(_configDao.getValue(vm.password.length));
return PasswordGenerator.generateRandomPassword(passwordLength);
}

Not a clue why but the generateRandomPassword method creates a random
3-character string first then loops through to generate n random characters.

public static String generateRandomPassword(int num) {
Random r = new SecureRandom();
StringBuilder password = new StringBuilder();

// Generate random 3-character string with a lowercase character,
// uppercase character, and a digit

password.append(generateLowercaseChar(r)).append(generateUppercaseChar(r)).append(generateDigit(r));

// Generate a random n-character string with only lowercase
// characters
for (int i = 0; i  num; i++) {
password.append(generateLowercaseChar(r));
}

return password.toString();
}

The unit tests seem to accommodate for this aswell:

// actual length is requested length + 3

Assert.assertTrue(PasswordGenerator.generateRandomPassword(0).length() ==
3);

Assert.assertTrue(PasswordGenerator.generateRandomPassword(1).length() ==
4);

I'm guessing there's some reasoning for this CCing Laszlo who according
to git log did some work on this class.

Thanks,

Ian

Has there been further discussion on setting up domains. Presently attempting

Has anyone else experienced this and/or have mirrors that I may not know about?

Re: vm.password.length issue in 4.4.1-SNAPSHOT

2014-10-13 Thread Ian Duffy
The only other usage of it is within
server/src/com/cloud/server/ConfigurationServerImpl.java
Its used for creating a Secondary storage vm copy password.

I'm seeing absolutely no reason why we have 3 values going in no matter
what, I'm willing to say its a bug. I'm curious to why the tests are
written to deal with it though

  Hey Nux,

  So I passed this work off to a util class that was already present in the
  code base PasswordGenerator

 @Override
 public String generateRandomPassword() {
 Integer passwordLength =
  Integer.parseInt(_configDao.getValue(vm.password.length));
 return PasswordGenerator.generateRandomPassword(passwordLength);
 }

  Not a clue why but the generateRandomPassword method creates a random
  3-character string first then loops through to generate n random
 characters.

 public static String generateRandomPassword(int num) {
 Random r = new SecureRandom();
 StringBuilder password = new StringBuilder();

 // Generate random 3-character string with a lowercase character,
 // uppercase character, and a digit

 password.append(generateLowercaseChar(r)).append(generateUppercaseChar(r)).append(generateDigit(r));

 // Generate a random n-character string with only lowercase
 // characters
 for (int i = 0; i  num; i++) {
 password.append(generateLowercaseChar(r));
 }

 return password.toString();
 }

  The unit tests seem to accommodate for this aswell:

 // actual length is requested length + 3

  Assert.assertTrue(PasswordGenerator.generateRandomPassword(0).length() ==
  3);

  Assert.assertTrue(PasswordGenerator.generateRandomPassword(1).length() ==
  4);

  I'm guessing there's some reasoning for this CCing Laszlo who
 according
  to git log did some work on this class.

  Thanks,

  Ian

  Now we can set more secure passwords generated for our instances.

  Second, the feature works, but with a small glitch, the number seems to
 be
  affected by some sort of offset. I.e. if I set the password to be 15
 chars
  in length then the generated password will actually be 18 chars.
  In order to get a 15 chars long passwd I had to set vm.password.length
 to
  12. Bug or feature? :)

Hi Mo,

I'm downloading from http://cloudstack.apt-get.eu/systemvm/4.4/

Its pretty fast, can grab the systemvm in about 1 minute.

The citrix guys have some on http://download.cloud.com/ as well.

Hope this helps,

 AFAIK the sudo rights are given during the mgmt server install.

Yes this happens during the cloud-setup-management stage. It modifies the
sudoers file.

There is one binary it attempts to execute using sudo that it doesn't have
permission to do so. If memory serves me correctly its keytool.

keytool was probably missing which cause the sudo error...

Can confirm that test-infra-common has /var/lib/jenkins full, CCing the
people who have access to that box.

I have restricted the build-4.5 job to running on the slavebuilder or
rpmbuilder as we do with build-master, 4.3, and 4.4
If anyone feels this is wrong please change it.

Thanks,

Can confirm that test-infra-common has /var/lib/jenkins full, CCing the people
who have access to that box.

I have restricted the build-4.5 job to running on the slavebuilder or
rpmbuilder as we do with build-master, 4.3, and 4.4
If anyone feels this is wrong please change it.

Thanks,
Ian
