Re: Secondary VM https download certificate error

2016-08-17 Thread Rajani Karuturi
Do you see any error in the apache access logs on SSVM?

Check if the certs are uploaded properly at the below locations
/etc/ssl/private/cert_apache.key
/etc/ssl/certs/cert_apache.crt
/etc/ssl/certs/cert_apache_chain.crt

Also check the SSL configuration at
/etc/apache2/sites-available/default-ssl on SSVM.

When you destroy or reboot SSVM, check the setup command logs for
any configuration errors.

Hello,

I have updated my SSVMs to use SSL for traffic. I have uploaded

console, I am not prompted for an invalid certificate. However,
if I go to templates and click download template, I get a
properly formatted url:

https://ip.ip.ip.ip.mydomain.com/userdata/*

but the certificate is signed by systemvm which causes the
browser to complain. I followed the documentation as written. I
updated:

secstorage.encrypt.copy = true
secstorage.ssl.cert.domain = *.mydomain.com
consoleproxy.url.domain = *.mydomain.com

I also uploaded the cert and it was successful. I am confident
everything is set from the cert side since the proxy works. I
have rebooted the secondary storage vm numerous times and also
destroyed it so it was recreated.

My ACS version is 4.9.

Yes, latest Chrome. No errors in console cloud.log. A parallel request from the
same client using Firefox, Safari or IE works. It is obviously Chrome related
but I am wondering if it is due to a way how Cloudstack sends video stream.
Other sites seem to be OK in this regard accessed by Chrome from the same
client.

Has anyone observed issues in using Chrome for VM console
sessions? Since recently we have had reports from many but not
all users seeing white blank space where VM screen output goes.
Other parts of the window e.g. Ctrl-Alt-Del button works just
fine so it seems that AJAX stream is broken in Chrome although no
other sites were reported with the same issues.
I attached a screenshot of console window. Has anyone seen this

Thank you, Giles.

Also, re: "v4.9" vs. "4.9", the ASF House Style is to write it as "v4.9" in the
heading of a press release and refer to it as "4.9" elsewhere.

This is similar to our need to reference "CloudStack" as its full name, "Apache
CloudStack" in its initial mention (press release, Website, etc.). This is a
Trademarks/Brand Management thing, but still relevant.

To that end, I will be going through the final draft of the press release and
ensuring that we're in synch with respect to House Style, trademarks notice,
etc., before going live.

Of course, any proposed editorial changes will be forwarded to you before
anything happens on that front.

As always, feel free to let me know if you need anything!

Hello again, everyone --I want to reiterate that it would be a very good idea
for us (= the Project) to solicit at few testimonials from
the Apache CloudStack user community.

One thing that we tout is that CloudStack "just works". It would be unusual for
us to make a formal announcement regarding a major release
and not have any testimonials.

As the ASF's VP Marketing & Publicity, I can attest that we have only had one
such announcement, which was received by the media/analyst
community with curiosity (to put it politely) ... "why won't anyone own up to
using your product?" is not something I'd like us to have to deal with,
particularly as that's not the case.

To that end, I will be happy to help work with you on this front, and strongly
recommend that we consider holding off on issuing the
press release until we have secured some user quotes.

Should we choose to do this, and if we can secure the quotes by Sunday evening,
I can issue the announcement as early as 4AM ET on Monday
22 August. Yes, I'll be sleepy, but it's worth it

Thoughts?

RE: Hiding buttons based on role

2016-08-17 Thread Will Stevens
Right. By one off, I mean, I don't expect the entire community to adopt
this approach.

The one thing to pay attention to with this approach is that every time you
change a roles permissions, you have to adapt and redeploy the CSS to
reflect the permission change. I don't remember if you have to rebuild to
pick up a new CSS file (I sure hope not). You could put the css in an
object store (like s3) and reference it in ACS, then update the CORS
settings to 'allow origin X' and serve it from a central location. This way
if you have multiple installs of ACS that will have the same permissions
you can update the visibility on all in a single place.

How you want to manage it will depend on how you are configuring and
managing your ACS setups, but you the idea.

Not elegant but will work. This is not a one off to a degree. It's for my own
servers but I will have at least 10-20 management server across the country in
different zones but this allows me to "hide" some elements that won't be used
until a more elegant way is created/available.

but the button is still present. In fact I get an API error that states I don't
have access.

Re: UnsatisfiedLink Error

2016-08-17 Thread Tutkowski, Mike
Just in case anyone else encounters this problem, I solved it this way:

sudo apt-get autoremove libjna-java

Subject: UnsatisfiedLink Error

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know how I can circumvent this error when running dpkg-buildpackage
-uc -us (I'm building with master on Ubuntu 14.04):

LibvirtComputingResourceTest.testMemoryFreeInKBsDomainReturningOfSomeMemoryStatistics:5045->createMemoryStatisticFreeMemory100:5063
 » UnsatisfiedLink

To get around problems when building with MVN, I had to add -Djna.nosys=true.

Thanks!

Mike

On KVM where primary storage is ceph / rbd, and a snapshot is backed up to
secondary, the comments seem to indicate that in this scenario the image will
be converted to qcow2 to save space. In implementation, however, it actually
"converts" the source format (RAW in this case) into RAW, which is effectly a
straight copy. This means that for a 20GB volume that is mostly empty, it will
copy a full 20GB file onto secondary storage as a backup. I have changed this
to it always sets the source type to that of the disk (which should always be
RAW for RBD), and sets the dest disk type to QCOW2.

Has anyone observed issues in using Chrome for VM console sessions? Since
recently we have had reports from many but not all users seeing white blank
space where VM screen output goes. Other parts of the window e.g. Ctrl-Alt-Del
button works just fine so it seems that AJAX stream is broken in Chrome
although no other sites were reported with the same issues.
I attached a screenshot of console window. Has anyone seen this issue or knows
if there is a workaround except using a different browser?

UnsatisfiedLink Error

2016-08-17 Thread Tutkowski, Mike
Hi everyone,

Does anyone know how I can circumvent this error when running dpkg-buildpackage
-uc -us (I'm building with master on Ubuntu 14.04):

LibvirtComputingResourceTest.testMemoryFreeInKBsDomainReturningOfSomeMemoryStatistics:5045->createMemoryStatisticFreeMemory100:5063
 » UnsatisfiedLink

To get around problems when building with MVN, I had to add -Djna.nosys=true.

Thanks!

I would like to get some feedback on this from the community, this has some
potentially unwanted side-effects with regards to usage-tracking. In the old
code, the amount of space used by the snapshot backup was counted against the
user as far as I can tell. In this new one, if the snapshot is not backed up,
the usage would be likely be considerably less.

Re: [draft for review] -4.9 -press release

2016-08-17 Thread Sally Khudairi

Hello again, everyone --I want to reiterate that it would be a very good idea
for us (= the Project) to solicit at few testimonials from the Apache
CloudStack user community.

One thing that we tout is that CloudStack "just works". It would be unusual for
us to make a formal announcement regarding a major release and not have any
testimonials.

As the ASF's VP Marketing & Publicity, I can attest that we have only had one
such announcement, which was received by the media/analyst community with
curiosity (to put it politely) ... "why won't anyone own up to using your
product?" is not something I'd like us to have to deal with, particularly as
that's not the case.

To that end, I will be happy to help work with you on this front, and strongly
recommend that we consider holding off on issuing the press release until we
have secured some user quotes.

Should we choose to do this, and if we can secure the quotes by Sunday evening,
I can issue the announcement as early as 4AM ET on Monday 22 August. Yes, I'll
be sleepy, but it's worth it

Thoughts?

Warmly,
Sally

Sally

I’m cross posting this to dev@ - we’ve not had much input on marketing@, so I’d
like some other eyeballs on this if we’re going to turn it around today

I agree, we need to get this finalised ASAP

My view would be to roll with the PR immediately. I know Thurs/Fri aren’t great
but we’ve already actually announced this so run the risk of the PR being 10
days after the event

Don’t think we’ll have time to get testimonials – unless somebody wants to jump
in here quickly

I’ve drafted a quote for Will below.
I’ve also taken Madan’s feedback and changed the order of the feature list
Will – please chime in if you want something different in the quote, what I’ve
written is pretty bland
Is Will unable to confirm, you can attribute it to me as PMC member as an
alternative

Thanks so much, Giles. This is a great draft. Glad to see that the template is
still useful :-)

Do let me know when the copy is locked in. I'll need the final draft by 6PM ET
prior to the day we'll be issuing the announcement over the wire.

Seeing that we're at the end of the "ideal" release timeframe (Thursdays and
Fridays aren't best for global media visibility), were you wanting to go
announce on Monday or whenever you're ready?

Also, if we could please include at least a quote from the PMC Chair, that
would be ideal.

Are there any user testimonials you'd like to include? If so, those will need
to be secured.

Thanking you in advance,
Sally

I'll do the long explanation regarding the bug in production we had.

Twice we had the VPN going down between 2 of our zones which resulted in
the lost of the communication between the management server and all the agents
of the other zone. After a few minutes the network went back and as the agents
were reconnecting we started to see VMs being shutdown, even though we don't
have HA enabled. We have 2 management servers in front of haproxy to balance
agents & requests. When the network went back, the agent reconnected to the
other management server 01. The server 02 had already started to issue some
commands to shutdown the VM.

The important lines are here, I kept the line showing one VM being shutdown
`111750`:

[GitHub] cloudstack issue #1640: CLOUDSTACK-9458: Fix HA bug when VMs are stopped on ...

2016-08-17 Thread koushik-das
Github user koushik-das commented on the issue:

https://github.com/apache/cloudstack/pull/1640

@marcaurele Can you share the MS logs for this issue? We need to understand
the exact cause for restart of VM? When an agent/host is detected as 'Down', CS
tries to check if VMs on it are alive or not, if found alive nothing is done on
the VM.

Also if you think that the host got disconnected intermittently, then there
are ways to adjust the timeout in CS after which it will start investigating
the host status. Try adjusting the ping.timeout configuration parameter to see
if the issue is resolved.

The investigation to check if VM is alive or not is done for all VMs
irrespective of HA enabled or not. If a host is really down then it makes sense
to mark the VMs as stopped. Additionally for HA enabled VMs, after they are
successfully fenced off, attempt is made to restart them on other hosts in the
cluster.

Re: Upgrade from 4.8.0.1 to 4.9 issue

2016-08-17 Thread Rohit Yadav
Hi Marty,

Please use this guide to switch to dynamic role feature from the default
static-checker:

http://cloudstack-administration.readthedocs.io/en/4.9/accounts.html#using-dynamic-roles

If you've manually set the global setting to true, you need to move/rename the
commands.properties file in the classpath (usually at
/etc/cloudstack/management/ or somewhere in /usr/share/cloudstack-management).
You can use a python script (see the link above) to migrate existing rules in
commands.properties file to the database.

Regards.

Subject: Upgrade from 4.8.0.1 to 4.9 issue

I upgraded a very clean environment of 4.8.0.1 to 4.9 and I am receiving this
error when trying to enable the dynamic.apichecker.enabled setting:

2016-08-17 00:20:03,148 DEBUG [c.c.a.ApiServlet]
(catalina-exec-25:ctx-01fb5369) (logid:3a6b506e) ===START===  192.168.250.250

command=updateConfiguration=json=dynamic.apichecker.enabled=true&_=1471407604828

When I say clean this is an environment that is all of two weeks old and has 2
instances and about 5 accounts. These accounts are LDAP integrated and
authenticate without issue after the update. All functions seems to work accept
the role-based additions. The GUI doesn't even show the little icon in the tab.
The management servers are Ubuntu 14.04.05 and the I am using community
packages. There were no errors on the update.

Thank you for the help.

Regards,
Marty Godsey

Instead of hardcoding, better to set it based on host count in the cluster.
Also consider that waitForHost() can wait upto 60 secs.

If one t.join() throws what happens to the other threads. Also will
__cleanAndExit() behave consistently if there are exceptions in multiple
threads.

Add the transifex config for new L10N resources files must be done after
each new major release on master branch (for the N+1 release, and after the
creation of the release branch)

After, we must update the translation on each branch (releases and master
branch) regularly or just before make a minor release.

For the documentation, I've just update the wiki:

Secondary VM https download certificate error

2016-08-17 Thread Marty Godsey
Hello,

I have updated my SSVMs to use SSL for traffic. I have uploaded my cert and
almost everything works as intended. The console proxy works without issue. If
I go to an instance and click view console, I am not prompted for an invalid
certificate. However, if I go to templates and click download template, I get a
properly formatted url:

https://ip.ip.ip.ip.mydomain.com/userdata/*

but the certificate is signed by systemvm which causes the browser to complain.
I followed the documentation as written. I updated:

secstorage.encrypt.copy = true
secstorage.ssl.cert.domain = *.mydomain.com
consoleproxy.url.domain = *.mydomain.com

I also uploaded the cert and it was successful. I am confident everything is
set from the cert side since the proxy works. I have rebooted the secondary
storage vm numerous times and also destroyed it so it was recreated.

My ACS version is 4.9.

Marty Godsey
