 Hi,

In case anyone is interested I just wrote a ansible playbook that creates
a set of VM on cloudstack and then installs a few docker containers that
 configure a Mesos cluster.
The Mesos cluster is configured to use Docker itself. So you can submit
Mesos tasks that are Docker containers.

Sounds bit convoluted, but using Docker for deployment of a framework is
actually very nice, and using that Framework to manage containers across
 hosts is needed.

That's just a prototype, any feedback and PR welcome.

   Hi all,

We are keen users of and contributors to jclouds [1], including for the

For those who don't know it, Apache jclouds is the leading java cloud
portability library, used by a lot of companies and several Apache
 projects
including Brooklyn (for which I'm a lead) and Stratos.

Would anyone in the CloudStack community be interested in helping out
with updating and improving the jclouds integration? Unfortunately the
jclouds CloudStack code hasn't had as much attention as it deserves over
  the past couple of releases.

I just targeted Exoscale [2] (i.e. CloudStack 4.3) for the jclouds live
test suite, and got a range of failures. There are some concrete tasks
 that
  can come out of this:

   * Ability to automatically skip inappropriate tests - e.g. if only
basic networking is available, then report the advanced networking
tests as skipped rather than failed.
(This could use the API Discovery [3])
   * Investigate other failures, to make the test suite more robust (or
potentially to find regressions in CloudStack).
   * Extend the jclouds integration for more recent API features (e.g.
 for API Discovery [3])
   * Improve the publicity and documentation for jclouds CloudStack -
 e.g. it's not even mentioned in [4]

+1 from me of course. I take care of libcloud, but jclouds also needs
  attention.

It's also worth noting that the jclouds live test suite is a great
regression test suite that could be run at least once on every CloudStack
release. For example, it would most likely spot regressions such as
  CLOUDSTACK-6508 [5,6].

I applied the patch for 6508 in the 4.3 branch, so you will see it in

Hi,

Yes, OVS controller auto create OVSTunnelxxx. Please use ovs-vsctl ultility
to check if OVSTunnel316 is exists.

Use this guide:

Re: Re: Use OVSTunnelxxx but not cloudbr1 result exception

2014-07-24 Thread Nguyen Anh Tu
Michael,

OVSTunnelxxx is automatically created by Ovs controller. The xxx value is
generated between VLAN range you set in the beginning. For each guest
network you create, Ovs controller will add one OvsTunnel bridge.

The Project Management Committee (PMC) for Apache CloudStack has asked Will
Stevens to become a committer and we are pleased to announce that he has
 accepted.

Being a committer allows many contributors to contribute more autonomously.
For developers, it makes it easier to submit changes and eliminates the
 need
to have contributions reviewed via the patch submission process. Whether
contributions are development-related or otherwise, it is a recognition of
 a
contributor's participation in the project and commitment to the project
 and
 the Apache Way.

Please join me in congratulating Will!

PS: Good job on the Palo Alto feature and the documentation, keep it up :)

This 1:1 mapping paves the way for enabling guaranteed QoS for root disks

It's been an honor serving the project as it's chair over the last year,

Yay. Actually Murali's commit still doesn't work with XenServer 6.2. Dom0's
VIF plug to GRE network with a warning, but XenServer hosts still doesn't
recognize the network. I also stuck at that point. The problem here is in
one cluster, host A creates GRE network but other hosts don't recognize it,
although the network is still listed in xe network-list command or in
XenCenter. If we deploy only one host per cluster, it works fine.

Re: Create GRE tunnel failed in 4.2 with XenServer.

2014-02-05 Thread Nguyen Anh Tu
Hi guys,

Appologize for delay response. I just came back from Lunar New Year
vacation.

I spent time to discover the GRE issue on XenServer 6.2. Now I know exactly
the problem. Here is:

+ No problem with ovstunnel script, it works well with XCP, KVM and
XenServer.
+ The idea to create GRE tunnel between HOSTs is:
CloudStack scans all of VMs including VRs in the network (by
NetworkID). On the first time, CloudStack calls ovstunnel to setup bridge,
then all HOSTs know about that bridge. After that, CloudStack start
creating and configuring GRE tunnels between couple of HOSTs in that
network when starting VMs. The steps work excellent. However, in XenServer,
the HOST (A, for example), which is called to create network (via XAPI
call), already known about the network, but the other HOSTs (B,C,D, for
example) doesn't know about this network. So VMs can't start on B,C,D. It
is VM_REQUIRE_NETWORK issue. CloudStack made a tricky to let B,C,D know
about this network by plugging and unplugging immediately the VIF to the
network from B,C,D Dom0. However, this tricky failed in XenServer version
6.2 because XenServer 6.2 don't accept the VIF from dom0 plug to network
created by XAPI call. I still don't know why but I just think a way to fix
it.

I see Murali's patch request. Will check it now.

Paul Angus: GRE tunnel works fine with XCP and KVM.

Again, sorry for delay response.

Thanks,

Create GRE tunnel failed in 4.2 with XenServer.

2014-01-23 Thread Nguyen Anh Tu
Guys,

Florin raised a problem in creating GRE tunnel with ACS 4.2 release and
XenServer 6.2. I found the problem come from enableXenserverNetwork method.
CloudStack made a tricky to create network when plugging a VIF to dom0 and
then unplugging immediately. With XCP version I done in GSOC, I bypassed
that step so that no problem.

Didn't know why we need that tricky and how to solve it. I'm working on it.
Any help or explaination?

Thanks,

RE: About Improving GRE Autoscaling features

2014-01-20 Thread Nguyen Anh Tu
Florin,

I'm looking into your issue. I'm using cs 4.2.0 release and xenserver 6.2.
SSVM and CPVM are already running. With XenServer, you actually no need to
use my patch. I need to download a template now. Back to you soon when the
VM and VR can start on GRE tunnel. Personally it should be no issue.

Please wait for several minutes,

 Hi Tuna, Chiradeep,

I am still struggling to make GRE isolation work in our test environment.
Here is where we are at the moment with GRE testing.
 We have tried so far:

 - CS 4.2.0 with XenServer 6.2
 - CS 4.1.1 with XenServer 6.1

In both setups above, we see in CS management log:
 ---
 2014-01-20 12:06:07,092 WARN [xen.resource.CitrixResourceBase]
 (DirectAgent-3:null) createandConfigureTunnelNetwork failed
The server failed to handle your request, due to an internal error. The
given message may give details useful for debugging the problem.
 ---

 and on XenServer xensource.log:

 ---
 Jan 20 11:52:33 xenserver-129 xapi: [error|xenserver-129|818 INET
 0.0.0.0:80|VIF.plug R:b57831dbf21a|xenops] Re-raising as INTERNAL_ERROR [
Object with type extra and id 267a5237-5238-4850-9601-a5017e2be9b2 does not
 exist in xenopsd ]
 ---

The error happens when it tries to plug a VIF into dom0.

 We have then tried:

 - CS 4.2.1 + Tuna's patch (https://reviews.apache.org/r/12445/diff/#0)
 with XenServer 6.2

From my understanding the patch is skipping VIF plug into dom0 on XCP
platforms among other things (XenServer being an XCP platform). We can see
now the VM coming up and virtual router running.
However, the GRE tunnel is still not configured, the functions
ovs_setup_bridge and create_tunnel in ovstunnel script don't seem to be
 invoked.

I was wondering if you could help us with a bit of information such as:

 1. Could you provide us a configuration known to work ? This means:
- CS version, XenServer version
- physical interfaces setup on XenServer (which interfaces are
 used, labelling information, IP information)
- physical interfaces configuration in CS (IP ranges, GW, ...)

 2. How does the internal network in the XenServer look like in the GRE
isolation setup (network list, VIF list and how they are connected) ? Is
this described in a design document ?
What about VIF plugging to dom0 ? Is that actually necessary, if so
 why ?

 Many thanks in advance !

 Best Regards,
 Florin

I would like to merge the branch open daylight into master. This branch
contains a plugin with an interface to an OpenDaylight controller.

The current functionality is limited to creating layer 2 isolated
networks using overlay networking as supported by opendaylight. We are
using the OVSDB and OpenFlow modules in OpenDaylight to build overlay
networks using gre tunneling. Opendaylight does not have a release yet, so
the state of the plugin is more of a technology preview, but has been
tested with several KVM hypervisors and the latest build of the
OpenDaylight controller and the ovsdb subproject. The functionality is
enough to work as an equivalent to the existing GRE tunnel implementation
 for KVM hypervisors.

Ideally this plugin should be the basic groundwork to start supporting
more functions/features available in OpenDaylight when they become
available. It allows interested parties to work with CloudStack and
OpenDaylight without having to work with a CS fork and keep rebasing a
 separate branch.

There is indeed a licensing issue. It was in the codebase in 2011 and
removed in 2012 as we readied for the first ASF release.

 For a history, see:

 Tuna:

Please revert this commit. vhd-util is both a binary and licensed in a
manner that makes it impossible from an ASF policy perspective to
retain in our version control or ship in a release - both of which are
 problematic.

 Subject: Apache CloudStack introduction documentation

 Dear guys,

I'm going to do an introduction about Apache CloudStack at university.
It's should be amazing to introduce students all of overview information
about Apache CloudStack. The main idea should be overview about design,
architecture, features,... Beside, my plan is talking not only technical
side but also community activities. I'm willing to share them the working
 process in OSS community.

I think it's better when collecting and summarizing from community. So,
any sharing for documents, slides talking overview about Apache CloudStack?

 Thanks for sharing,

Active the STP function on ovs bridge will prevent the storm effectively
but it will need large of CPU resource in a large amount of networks

adding more flow rules or else.)

 Chandler,

Propagation of broadcast traffic across the tunnels should have been
suppressed. Its possible there is a bug, could you file a bug? Generally

@Daan,

Apologize for slow response. Yeah, actually we have two approach methods:

- using SNMP: I'm going to use pre-installed SNMP agent into VMs. Also,
SNMP manager will be external pluggable devices. Problem now is what
parameters we decide to monitor?
- trying to explore hypervisor's ability in collecting performance data
from VMs resided in. Problem is the hypervisor's limited in monitoring VMs.

I prefer method 1.

@Chiradeep,

Okie I'm done with SNMP agent installed into VMs. What I'm thinking is:

We use external SNMP managers opensource software, implemented as an
external device, same architecture with other plugins like NetScaler of
Nicira NVP. The advantage is scalable and pluggable. CloudStack send AS
configuration to SNMP devices using their own API (similar to NetScaler's
NitroAPI). AutoScale engine periodically request performance information to
SNMP device and make AS actions (scaleup/scaledown) to CloudStack
orchestration based on response data.

So, problem now is:

+ what SNMP software we use? I found Net-SNMP but not sure it's okie. Need
to try and review it.
+ what metric we decide to monitor for AS action?

@guys: Any idea?

Thanks Daan,

Sure, I already read these pages. The SNMP alert feature is a good starting

not really fit my scenario. That feature takes alert information from
build-in event alert module, formats it to trap messages and forwards them

We need to rebase it on latest master first.

Rebase already done but haven't submitted because of several pending
patches before. Commit today!

Re: Docker?

2013-10-30 Thread Nguyen Anh Tu
Hi,

I'm starting look into docker's architecture and figure out how it plays
with lxc and openstack at that moment. Will try to figure some of key
points before the CCC13 start, so we can discuss directly at there.

I noticed it has already landed in the other stack.

 The answer is yes :)

Nugyen has started looking at it, so as Darren.

Can you start a wiki page to dump some ideas, there are some interesting
 architectural decision to be had.

[proposal] Autoscaling CPU/RAM feature

2013-10-20 Thread Nguyen Anh Tu
Hi guys,

I read about the new feature on 4.2 version: dynamic scaling of CPU and
RAM -
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/CLOUDSTACK/Dynamic+scaling+of+CPU+and+RAM

I'm wonder why we don't support autoscaling CPU and RAM feature, which acts
like the current autoscaling. Particularly, when deploying VM, users set
memory_static_min and memory_static_max and ACS choose memory_dynamic_min
and memory_dynamic_max, for
example, memory_dynamic_min=memory_dynamic_max=memory_static_min. While
running, if the VM is in pressure, ACS automatically
change memory_dynamic_min, memory_dynamic_max based on pre-defined policy.

At configuration period, users may set these below parameters:

memory_static_min
memory_static_max
duration
quiet time
interval
threshold

Any idea?

Cheers,

Re: Review Request 14628: AutoScaling without NetScaler

Ok. Thanks. So will live storage migration of VM (using Xen motion) be
supported with this as well? Can I for ex: migrate one of the autoscaled
 VMs across clusters?

If yes, does it recalculate the scale up condition again after migrating
the VM? And wondering if the VM migrated will still be part of the LB rule?

Yah. Live storage migration is not supported on that patch. You still can
migrate VM across clusters and LB rule also works normally, but the monitor
will be failed. I will continued update fix versions.

Thanks,

-API interfaces (AWS refactor, GCE, OCCICIMI standard): Discuss the state
of our interfaces, plans for future, needs etc. AWS interface might need a
refactor, GCE is a new interface, OCCI is a standard and Isaac Chiang has
developed an interface. We are missing a CIMI interface.

-Ecosystem: The are lots of tools in the cloud ecosystem, we should talk
about docker, ansible, cloud foundry/bosh…etc.and define a plan to have
great cloudstack support in all of those.

+1 for API interfaces and Ecosystem. It should be amazing for full support.
I'm willing to contribute.
