[jira] [Commented] (DELTASPIKE-400) BeanBuilder should set the bean of the InjectionPoints

 ]

Jason Porter commented on DELTASPIKE-400:
-

Which code path are we talking about here? {{readFromType}} should already have
that data. If you're specifying {{InjectionPoints}} via {{injectionPoints}}
then I can see it. We can either add some checks and error out, or we could try
and create new {{InjectionPoints}} but there's no guarantee you'll have a Bean
already ready. Maybe the exception is best if you send {{InjectionPoints}}
without a {{Bean}}?

 BeanBuilder should set the bean of the InjectionPoints
 --

 Key: DELTASPIKE-400
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/DELTASPIKE-400
 Project: DeltaSpike
  Issue Type: Bug
  Components: Core
Affects Versions: 0.4
Reporter: Mark Struberg
Assignee: Mark Struberg

 BeanBuilder creates Beans which have InjetionPoints without a bean set. Means
 getBean() will return null for them.
 This creates issues in some containers.
 What we can do is to set this info if it's null.

[jira] [Resolved] (DELTASPIKE-400) BeanBuilder should set the bean of the InjectionPoints

Jason Porter resolved DELTASPIKE-400.
-
   Resolution: Fixed
Fix Version/s: 1.3.0
   1.2.1

Fixed in commit ae145f3

 BeanBuilder should set the bean of the InjectionPoints
 --

 Key: DELTASPIKE-400
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/DELTASPIKE-400
 Project: DeltaSpike
  Issue Type: Bug
  Components: Core
Affects Versions: 0.4
Reporter: Mark Struberg
Assignee: Jason Porter
 Fix For: 1.2.1, 1.3.0

 BeanBuilder creates Beans which have InjetionPoints without a bean set. Means
 getBean() will return null for them.
 This creates issues in some containers.
 What we can do is to set this info if it's null.

[jira] [Updated] (DELTASPIKE-739) BeanBuilder#readFromType should respect @Typed

 [

Jason Porter updated DELTASPIKE-739:

 BeanBuilder#readFromType should respect @Typed
 --

 Key: DELTASPIKE-739
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/DELTASPIKE-739
 Project: DeltaSpike
  Issue Type: Bug
  Components: Core
Affects Versions: 1.0.3
Reporter: Ron Smeral
Assignee: Rafael Benevides
 Attachments: ds-beanbuilder-typed-reproducer.zip

 {{BeanBuilder#readFromType}} currently includes all superclasses of a type in
 the set of bean types and it does not respect the {{@Typed}} annotation.
 This currently also causes a problem with PartialBeans which use {{@Typed}}.
 Example:
 {code}
 public interface Rules {}
 {code}
 {code}
 public class BaseRules implements Rules {}
 {code}
 {code}
 @SomePartialBeanBinding
 @Typed(AdminRules.class)
 public abstract class AdminRules implements Rules {}
 {code}
 {code}
 public class Controller {
 @Inject private Rules rules;
 }
 {code}
 This causes a deployment exception - ambiguous dependencies. The expected
 behaviour would be, that {{AdminRules}} is not resolvable as {{Rules}}.

 Documentation donation from RedHat
 --

 Key: DELTASPIKE-690
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/DELTASPIKE-690
 Project: DeltaSpike
  Issue Type: Improvement
  Components: Documentation
Reporter: John D. Ament
Assignee: Rafael Benevides

 DeltaSpike Doc Reorg Proposal
 Summary of task
 Develop better structure of docs so users can find required info
 https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/DELTASPIKE-642
 Areas identified for improvement
 1. Presentation
 The Documentation page of the DeltaSpike site provides a long linked table of
 contents. The links in the table of contents take users to the relevant
 section of the document lower down the page but for a number of these
 sections the user then needs to click another link to get to the actual
 content (e.g., Core).
 Examples are listed as the very last item of the Documentation page (and also
 listed on the Home page).
 Migration information appears to be linked from the menu bar only.
 Recommendations
 Change the landing Documentation page to solely provide a list of categorized
 (and linked) titles, keeping the actual content on separate pages. [For
 example, http://aerogear.org/docs/guides/]
 Arrange the titles under four categories as follows:
 Getting Started
 Overview of DeltaSpike
 Installing and Configuring DeltaSpike
 Migrating to DeltaSpike
 Examples and Tutorials
 Using Individual Modules
 Link for each module page
 Reference
 Build DeltaSpike from Source
 API
 SPI
 More Resources
 Blogs and Articles
 Add-ons
 External Examples
 2. Organization
 Lots of sections contain solely a link to another section or the sole link to
 another page. An example of the latter is the Project Configuration without
 Maven page, in which the in-text hyperlinked ‘build’ provides the only link
 to the Building DeltaSpike from Source page. This kind of organization means
 that users can get easily lost navigating the documentation and makes it
 harder for users to understand quickly how concepts and components fit
 together.
 Recommendations
 Implement the presentation changes recommended in item 1, which links every
 page from the Documentation page and provides a logical structure to the
 content.
 Within each page, structure the content as outlined in the page tables at the
 end of this document.
 3. Examples and Tutorials
 The existing Examples page is low on detail.
 There is one (internal) DeltaSpike example listed (artifact-id:
 deltaspike-jse-owb-example) but no details on how to obtain or build it. A
 number of examples are distributed as part of source.zip but their existence
 is not advertised on the website. The distributed examples do not have README
 files to inform users what the examples are or how to use them. Several
 project templates in GitHub are linked from the Documentation page but no
 information is provided about them. These project templates do not have
 README files to inform users what the templates are or how to use them.
 The list of external DeltaSpike examples is minimal and the user has to open
 every link to find out more about each. Further, some of the examples linked
 here contain no README file to instruct users what the example is or how to
 build it.
 There are no quickstart tutorials. It difficult for a user to quickly
 understand or experience adding DeltaSpike to a sample project or their own
 project and assess whether they want to learn more about DeltaSpike.
 Recommendations
 Expand the information provided on the currently listed internal example,
 including information on what the example demonstrates and how to build it.
 Add 2-3 sentences about each of the examples distributed in source.zip,
 specifying that the examples source is available in source.zip.
 Add a README file to the source code for each distributed example in
 source.zip.
 Add 2-3 sentences about each of the project templates.
 Add a README file to the source code for each project template in GitHub.
 Provide one sentence about each of the external project links - what the
 project is a demonstration of, why/when would the user find the example
 helpful.
 Put together a simple tutorial either:
  a) demonstrating how to add (for example) the DeltaSpike Core module to a
 maven project and make use of one of the main module features in the project.
 b) pulling apart the code of one of the project templates

 documentation

 Note that I'm using the agreed path for documentation folder and that I
 also included a Readme.md that instructs how to setup the credentials on
 ~/.m2/settings.xml and what maven command that should be used to deploy.

 The result was published here: http://deltaspike.apache.org/

 the generated html to be close to deltaspike site style.

 Hi all,

 This email is just to give a feedback about making CMS to
 work with Github and Asciidoc.

 Finally I was able to understand enough how CMS works and
 probably I'm stopped where John Ament was.

 What I'm doing now is writing a GitUtil Perl Module that will
 be hosted at
 http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/deltaspike/site/trunk/lib/
 that will be responsible for cloning the documentation (on
 deltaspike git repo) and then another module will run the
 build (asciidoc to html) just for [git_root/documentation/].

 The idea is that the final documentation gets hosted at
 deltaspike.apache.org/documentation/
 http://deltaspike.apache.org/documentation/ (note the sub
 folder).

 Further steps: Prepare a template so asciidoc generated html
 uses the same style of deltaspike.apache.org
 http://deltaspike.apache.org.

 Well, the idea here is to make everyone aware about this and
 also say that if is there anybody if Perl knowledge, you're
 welcome to give some hints!

 Thanks

   long as everyone agrees.

   I have a small POC setup here:

 https://github.com/johnament/deltaspike/commit/402becc0e450e551570107a1661d39e9eb6a43cb

   I setup a local VM w/ a SVN
   repo to test it out. Basically, we can
   generate the asciidoc locally using mvn site,
   then run mvn site-deploy to
   move the
   rendered files to staging. Once done, login to CMS and
   promote to
   prod.

   The only change would be to get infra to switch
   our script to use the shell
   option.  It
   does put the rendering process on whoever is writing the
   docs,
   but since it's using the java
   plugin and jruby, nothing should need to be
   downloaded separately to machines.

 The document is opened for comments.

 Something that was also discussed not only inside Red Hat but with some
 community members is about the format and source of the documentation. I
 strongly believe that we should have the documentation somewhere else but
 the DS site source. It could improve the ease to the community to
 contribute with it. Having said that, it's also suggested that we should
 use asciidoc as documentation format.

 So what we have until now ?

I think #1 is really the only way we can realistically continue forward. We
should communicate though that those matrices which use earlier versions of
the spec(s) probably will not receive as much attention, probably just bug
fixes, unless we can refactor to a base for those modules and then add new
things in base where appropriate.

 a
 testDatabase configuration for tomee. So, we could have just one
 arquillian.xml file somewhere in the testsuite root, copy it over
 using
 resources-plugin, and override it only when necessary.
 One minor problem is -- and this is for the container unpacking

 too

 --

  that to point to the testsuite root, every pom would need to keep

 a

  relative reference to it (e.g. testsuite.root../../../
 testsuite.root),
 which is ugly, but doable.

 On 3.1.2014 06:26, Christian Kaltepoth wrote:

Hey Ron,

  yeah, there are differences between arquillian.xml files. But

 why?

 I

  don't
 see any reason for having different arquillian.xml files between
 modules.
 Actually the integration test Maven profiles are also located in

 a

  single
 parent pom and not in each individual module pom. IMHO we should
 treat
 arquillian.xml the same way. Unless there is a good reason for

 having

  multiple ones.

 I agree that we should unpack the container only once. I'm not

 sure I

  like
 to use java.io.tmpdir though. It would be nice to have it in the
 top-level
 target directory or something like that. That would ensure that
 running
 mvn clean would also remove the unpacked container.

 On 2.1.2014 17:55, Christian Kaltepoth wrote:

  Hey all,

   there are two things I would like to address regarding our

 integration
 test
 suite.

 1. Currently each module has its own arquillian.xml file. IMHO

 this

  doesn't
 make sense. What about using a single arquillian.xml and

 placing

   it in
 the
 test-utils module?

 +0, there are minor differences among them currently
 (though

 not

  sure

   if

 necessary), and it would make it more difficult to make an
 individual
 modification if there was single arquillian.xml.

 2. We have both managed and remote profiles for some
 containers.
 But

   the managed profiles (especially Wildfly + Glassfish)
 require

 you to
 manually download and setup the corresponding container which I
 would
 like
 to avoid. I think it would be nicer if the managed profiles
 could do
 this
 automatically. This would simplify the process of running the

 tests

  locally
 before committing and it would also be easier to create CI jobs

 for

  them.
 See [1] for an example of a profile which sets up the container
 automatically and therefore runs out of the box even in

 transient

   CI
 environments like Travis [2].

 There already is such profile at least for JBoss AS7

   (jbossas-build-managed-7) and at this very moment I'm adding

 such

  profile
 for WildFly. However, currently there is a minor drawback to the
 current
 approach -- the container is unpacked for every module and so
 almost 5
 GB
 of diskspace is required to run the whole testsuite, which is

 quite

  impractical. It would be nice to have the container unpacked to

 a

  shared
 location, e.g. ${java.io.tmpdir}, just as in the ocpsoft rewrite

 pom

  you
 linked. I'll try that in the AS7 and WF8 profiles.

 Thoughts?

 Okay, I spent some time with Sam on IRC hashing this out. Assuming that
 Seam-Spring is covered under the SG(s?) Red Hat has filed for deltaspike,
 his view is that it's not terribly important who does the initial code
 import, though it would be best for a so-authorized Red Hatter to be the
 one to change the file headers. I will be out of pocket for the rest of
 the week beyond today, so if you, Marius, are able to work on the import
 end of this week/early next then that's in any event as soon as I would
 have been able to get to it anyway. Otherwise, anyone can do that, with
 someone still employed by RH finally applying the change that modifies the
 headers--which, I suppose, could be prepared by anyone else and simply
 shared among our private git repos.

   Okay, I spent some time with Sam on IRC hashing this out. Assuming
  that
   Seam-Spring is covered under the SG(s?) Red Hat has filed for
  deltaspike,
   his view is that it's not terribly important who does the initial
 code
   import, though it would be best for a so-authorized Red Hatter to
 be
  the
   one to change the file headers. I will be out of pocket for the
 rest
  of
   the week beyond today, so if you, Marius, are able to work on the
  import
   end of this week/early next then that's in any event as soon as I
 would
   have been able to get to it anyway. Otherwise, anyone can do that,
  with
   someone still employed by RH finally applying the change that
 modifies
   the
   headers--which, I suppose, could be prepared by anyone else and
 simply
   shared among our private git repos.

This is working exactly as it should, and exactly as it is documented. Take a
look at http://deltaspike.apache.org/core.html#exception-handler-annotations,
the last example. In both the example and the code in your project the
exception handlers are being qualified, exactly the same way qualifiers in base
CDI.

Without seeing where this exception is coming from (is the exception qualified
when it's sent to exception handling?) the best I can surmise is that the
exception when it is sent for exception handling is not receiving the
{{@FacesRequest}} qualifier, therefore none of the handlers in your code will
pick it up.

Right, injection through arquillian happens after all the @Before and

 i've added a test for it and it looks fine here (see [1]).

 fyi - basically there are two modes:

 #1 the test-class is a cdi-bean as well
 (src/test/resources/META-INF/beans.xml is needed)

 #2 the test-class isn't a cdi-bean (due to a missing beans.xml or @Typed()
 or @Exclude,...) - BeanProvider#injectFields is used as fallback

 Hi!

 I've just come around Test-Control - great module, simplifies in-container
 testing a lot. But I discovered one thing and I'm not sure if it's intended
 or a bug:

 @Inject is resolved for fields of the test class object itself only, not
 for
 fields of base classes. As a workaround I use
 BeanProvider.injectFields(this), but I would expect injections to be
 resolved automatically for the test class object as a whole, not just for
 the derived class part.

 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/DELTASPIKE-334
 Project: DeltaSpike
  Issue Type: New Feature
Reporter: Charles Moulliard
Assignee: Charles Moulliard
Priority: Minor

 Description should be enriched by authors (Jason, ...)
 {code}
 From:Nodet Guillaume gno...@redhat.com
 Such a xml is in the META-INF/beans.xml, right ? So that you can override the
 behaviour of annotations ?
 I'm not sure how / where we could use it, and that does not seem really
 critical to me anyway.
 I think we'd better come to an understanding of the use case we'd want to
 cover.
 I'm thinking about:
  * #1 create beans using the CDI container
  * #2 inject CDI beans into blueprint beans using the blueprint xml
  * #3 inject blueprint beans into CDI beans using @Inject
  * #4 support CDI annotations on blueprint beans (@PostConstruct,
 @PreDestroy, @Inject)
 #1 is obviously needed, it could be done from the blueprint xml using a
 simple tag, eventually pointing to the beans.xml config file, or inline it
 (though inlining is not really worth the pain now imho)
  cdi:container xmlns=…
  cdi:beans url=… /
  /cdi:container
 #2 means being able to use one of the bean created from the CDI container and
 inject it using the xml blueprint syntax, something like
  bean ….
cdiroperty name=service… /
 /bean
 Not sure what exactly we'd need in the cdiroperty/ element, but the idea is
 to use the bean setters to inject a bean created inside the CDI container
 #3 means that we'd need to be able to inject a bean created by the blueprint
 container using bean/ into a @Inject annotated property of a CDI bean
 created by the CDI container. In blueprint, beans are referred to by name
 though, so it may require a custom annotation maybe ?
 #4 means mixing CDI annotations with blueprint beans. It's the most
 complicated case I think, as it needs an even closer cooperation of both
 containers.
 This needs to be triggered either globally or an individual bean using a flag
 such an xml attribute such as cdirocess=true that could be set on a bean/
 element or a default attribute on the cdi:container/ element.
 Cheers,
 Guillaume Nodet

 Hmm and I assumed DTOs are dead and buried :-)

 Packing this in the base interface feels kind of clunky to me -
 also
 considering that there are repositories without the need to
 extend
 the
 base
 interface. What about something like

 @Repository(forEntity = Person.class)
 @ResultMapper(entityMapper = MapperX.class, keyMapper =
 MapperY.class)
 public interface PersonRepository extends
 EntityRepositoryPersonDto,
 DtoPk { ... }

 Having the Entity on @Repository takes precedence and the type
 parameters
 are in this case just for convenience.

 web.xml
 -

 Key: DELTASPIKE-414
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/DELTASPIKE-414
 Project: DeltaSpike
  Issue Type: Bug
  Components: Servlet-Module
Affects Versions: 0.5
Reporter: Emond Papegaaij

 DeltaSpike uses a filter to record the request and response objects for
 injection in that thread. This filter is configured in web-fragment.xml,
 which is loaded before other web-fragments, but not before web.xml. Filters
 from web.xml will be first in the chain, breaking request and response
 injection into these filters with Attempt to access the request/response
 without an active HTTP request (RequestResponseHolder:85).
 We are moving from Solder, where the request and response objects were
 recorded in a ServletRequestListener, which is always fired first, regardless
 of it's position in the web.xml/web-fragment.xml. I think DeltaSpike should
 use the same approach.
 For now, a workaround is to copy the configuration of
 RequestResponseHolderFilter to your web.xml and put it before all other
 filters.

  I'm not sure what good a ThreadLocal is going to give you. Unless you're
  using @InSequence in your tests you're not guaranteed when the tests will
  run and if that ThreadLocal variable will be set. Simply having
 Arquillian
  inject the URL should be fine. Also if depending on the forking parameter
  with JUnit it may not work anyway.

Data module, full replacement for Seam Factories?

2013-09-13 Thread Jason Porter
I was looking at
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/18774025/how-can-i-update-a-collection-that-is-produces-applicationscoped
and
the data module came to my mind. I just did a quick glance through the code
I thought was applicable, but I'm still doubtful it'll actually do what I
want. Can someone correct me if the data module will actually do this?

If not, it sure sounds like a killer feature to implement. We'd need to
create events, probably add some more metadata to it, and possibly create
some beans so there's a concrete class, or perhaps some InvocationHandlers.

Re: General Converter

2013-08-17 Thread Jason Porter
The problem with a generic JSF converter is that it has to be very dumb, or you
have to use a certain kind of object.

The Seam 3 converter went as generic as possible, it also kept things in
the conversion (and should work fine in the request as a conversation is at
least as long as a request). Depending on what state you're storing in the
converter, you probably wouldn't want anything longer than the conversation due
to memory issues.

If memory serves correctly, the Seam 2 converter really only worked if you
were using the EntityHome classes.

If you were to do anything similar to the Seam 2 converter you'd need to
create some sort of object hierarchy the user would need to use, or try to
perform some sort of generic magic with the criteria API, which is not the
easiest of things to do.

All that being said, I'd be happy to talk ideas out anyone may have.

Singleton won't do any good, in weld, and I believe in OWB, singleton behaves

 Might be a side effect from moving QueryHandler to application scope. Several

[jira] [Commented] (DELTASPIKE-386) PropertyFileUtils.getResourceBundle() fails in EAR

Larger patches require an iCLA to be on file, but with small patches we should
be okay w/o one.

 PropertyFileUtils.getResourceBundle() fails in EAR
 --

 Key: DELTASPIKE-386
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/DELTASPIKE-386
 Project: DeltaSpike
  Issue Type: Bug
  Components: Core
Affects Versions: 0.4
 Environment: JBoss AS 7.2.0.Final (EAP 6.1.0.Alpha1)
Reporter: Richard DiCroce

 The method PropertyFileUtils.getResourceBundle(String bundleName, Locale
 locale) doesn't work correctly in an EAR.
 I have the DS core JARs in the EAR /lib and I'm trying to use the JsfMessage
 feature in one of my WARs. Because getResourceBundle() calls
 ResourceBundle.getBundle(String bundleName, Locale locale), Java attempts to
 load the resource bundle using the classloader that was used to load
 PropertyFileUtils, which is the EAR's classloader. The property files are in
 the WAR, so Java can't find them.
 Changing
 return ResourceBundle.getBundle(bundleName, locale);
 to
 return ResourceBundle.getBundle(bundleName, locale,
 Thread.currentThread().getContextClassLoader());
 fixes the problem.

Since EE7 has come out now, I'm guessing we should align this with the new
functionality from the JTA 1.2 revision

 right now qualifiers are stored via Class? extends Annotation - the usage
 of qualifiers is restricted to @Q1, @Q2,... - @Q(1) and @Q(2) isn't
 supported currently.

 we need a custom port to run in on jenkins.
 ( blocked by https://issues.jboss.org/browse/AS7-1036 )
 we could replace standalone.xml after the unpack process (in
 process-test-classes)

  Hi Mark

  Yay tons of builds today.

  Anyways, I was wondering if there were any docs out there on how to
 update
  the site's documentation? Is there an SVN repo we check out to do this
 (I'm
  assuming infra doesn't support git for the sites). Do we do anything
 after
  committing?
