Re: [DISCUSS] No RC process for releases
Hi, Given it looks like both Alex and Eric has very different views of this no RC process I suggest that they get it documented, that will save any future confusion and conflict around the process in the future. Is that not a reasonable suggestion? I'm also yet to see any ideas on how to improve the process. The data clearly shows it didn't work well for TourDeFlex. People who are for using this process must have some ideas? The RC vote/discussion in my last email is important. I hate to see a release having to be removed/withdrawn as it was unclear what people were voting on or that worse what we release can't be recreated from version control easily. While we may be able to tweak the process leading up to making a release we still have to follow Apache process make voting on and making releases. Thanks, Justin

Re: Debugging Tests
To clarify the process to get to the point Alex is talking about: You first have to set up Mustella according to the manual in the Wiki [1]. Then you have to run the tests (make sure you only run a subset based on the failures from the jobs on the Mustella VM [2], unless you have 8 - 10 hrs to kill), like so: ./mini_run.sh tests/gumbo/components/RichEditableText Then make sure the 'imagediff' AIR app is build properly (this was causing problems on my end). Delete any previously built SWFs from '[SDK]/mustella/utilities/imageDiffAIR/src', then run: ant build-imagediff Only after these steps was I able to run: ant imagediff and have the actual ImageDiff utility launch without errors. RE: git commit: [flex-sdk] [refs/heads/develop] - The link was pointing to an old version of the .jar
An official release can't depend on a snapshot Yes it can even though it is not the default. but this should be easy to fix by those who know maven well, and we have released the software in question. Well, I didn't follow this dev closely but can see in [1] that only the 1.0.0 has been released therefore it is usual in the dev branch to use the next snapshot version (aka 1.1.0-SNAPSHOT) Again, I guess (still to confirm though) the fact that is a Ant build doesn't give us an automatic option to say 1.1.0-SNAPSHOT but we have to specify the exact snapshot which is a new file at each build/deploy snapshot of flex-tool, to check it, it would worth to try to set the lib version to flex-tool-api-1.1.0-SNAPSHOT.jar instead of flex-tool-api-1.1.0-20141121.233135-20.jar and see if the resolution occurs or use the release version but you won't see if the new implementation of this lib breaks something. So there is no need to modify Scroller.as anymore, the cacheAsBitmap can easily do the same thing. Here is the sample code for how to use cacheAsBitmap to improve the scrolling performance: s:Scroller width=100% height=100% s:Group s:DataGroup id=realContent touchInteractionStart=realContent.mouseChildren=false;realContent.cacheAsBitmap=true; touchInteractionEnd=realContent.mouseChildren=true;realContent.cacheAsBitmap=false; itemRenderer=com.test.renderers.MyItemRenderer dataProvider={someData} width=100% s:layout s:VerticalLayout useVirtualLayout=false/ /s:layout /s:DataGroup /s:Group /s:Scroller The essential elements are: 1. You have to put a Group inside the Scroller, then put the real content (s:DataGroup id=realContent) inside that Group. 2. The layout of the realContent, you have to set its useVirtualLayout to false (the default value is false). 3. Listen for the realContent's touchInteractionStart and touchInteractionEnd event: When touchInteractionStart, disable any mouse and touch interactions of the realContent's mouseChildren by setting realContent.mouseChildren = false, then turn on the cache for realContent by setting realContent.cacheAsBitmap = true. When touchInteractionEnd, reverse the changes you made for the realContent. That's it! It's very easy to improve the scrolling performance by doing so. It's the same scrolling performance result when compared to the BitmapData.copyPixels() approach, yet cacheAsBitmap is much easier to understand and handle, so we don't have to do the modify the Scroller.as any more, the cacheAsBitmap approach is the best way to improve the scrolling performance now! If you not believe me, test it yourself : ) DarkStone 2014-11-30 At 2014-10-29 18:56:09, after24 vinc...@after24.net wrote: Hi Jude, /*have you tried setting include in layout to false when setting visible to false?*/ Yes, this property is set to false during scroll operations. It seems that this performance decrease is caused by scout... when scout is off, there is no difference between the two approaches (visible = false or removeElement). So it looks like this optimization is viable :-) I am a bit busy this week but I will add a ticket on the JIRA with a sample application as soon as possible. Re: Scroller optimization
Hi, Well, I think maybe it worth an official blog post, teaching developers how to improve the touch scrolling performance as the example I provided. But I don't think it worth a patch right now, giving it's a little technique for how to use cacheAsBitmap wisely. I suppose for some non-Apache jar we could have it as a dependency, but in this case, we own the sources so our official releases should probably use an officially released jar. However, it isn’t worth debating at this time. We got here because the flex-sdk build was broken trying to use the released jar and using a snapshot was the quickest way to fix it temporarily. Then the version of the snapshot I used got wiped out so Erik fixed it again in this change with a newer snapshot. It was on my list to fix for real if Chris didn’t beat me to it. I recently found that Falcon is using the released snapshot and just checked in a change to flex-sdk to use the same URL. -Alex
