Moving any dead region servers to default rsgroup would remove them from knows
server list.

RE: [DISCUSS] Move stable pointer to the latest 2.3.x release

2020-08-31 Thread Pankaj kr
We have observed performance degrade in Scan and Bulk load as compared to 1.x,
there are couple of JIRAs already in-progress to handle them HBASE-24754,
HBASE-24637 & HBASE-24850.
IMO we should move stable pointer after fixing these important issues.

Hello everyone,

While voting for 2.2.6 RC0, we had a short discussion reg moving stable pointer
to the latest 2.3.x and the decision was to initiate the discuss thread when
2.3.1 and 2.2.6 are out.

Since 2.3.1 is already out and our RM is busy with 2.2.6 release process, I am
initiating this thread to discuss the same.

Would you all like to consider moving stable release pointer to 2.3.x release
line?
Given the stabilization efforts and some latest features available with stable
tests, I am +1 for the same.

RE: [DISCUSS] Moving towards a branch-2 line that can get the 'stable' pointer.

2019-01-17 Thread Pankaj kr
Yeah, HBCK2/ OfflineMetaRepair tools are really required to migrate old version
data to HBase-2. We have use cases where we are using these tools to rebuild
the meta for further region assignment.
Similar discussion is going on HBASE-21665, after fixing the NPE and rebuilding
the meta, master don't assign the regions as we skip the empty regions while
loading meta during master startup.

A big +1 from my side on this...

Agree with Andrew, adding SQL capability to HBase will be little messy task and
not much value added to HBase when solutions like phoenix already available.

  Make sense to me.

Subject: Re: Rough notes from dev meetup, day after hbaseconasia 2018, saturday

It would be helpful if someone could forward the relevant bits of Phoenix
discussion to the Phoenix dev list. One thing I know that project lacks is
usability feedback. I don't see anyone writing in with suggestions, mainly
complaining about it on a HBase list somewhere. Could just be I lack
perspective and those conversations are happening somewhere, but I am a
subscriber to all of the relevant lists and this is my observation. If a
correct observation, this is not really fair. I work somewhere that has Phoenix
in production. There is no doubt the attempt to implement RDBMS functionality
*inside* HBase as an add on component is a challenging undertaking. However,
any would be substitute I have seen to date either doesn't actually attempt the
same challenges, or takes a shortcut which renders any comparison to the
proverbial "apples and oranges". The tell here is the notion of *lightweight*
SQL access. Reads as a tremendous limitation of scope. SQL is a huge standard
incorporating 30+ years of development in relational systems capabilities and
semantics. We will get into trouble if we ever attempt a "lightweight" SQL
interface to HBase that fails to match expectations which automatically attach
to the effort whenever you claim it to be a SQL interface. This is a cross the
Phoenix project already bears. If SQL support is really the goal it would be
better to assist there. Or, if the goal is the barest minimal SQL-like thing
someone needs to support their use case, and then contribute to HBase, call it
something else, like Cassandra did with CQL. Would be like the other connectors
- thrift, REST, Kafka, etc. - and should go into the connectors repo, in my
opinion.

RE: Region comapction failed

2017-01-16 Thread Pankaj kr
Yeah, HBASE-13123 already available.

While going through HFilePrettyPrinter result with -e option, we observed some
keys doesn't contain complete column_family:qualifier information. Normally in
HFIle Keys are formed as,
K: r1/CF:Qualifier/1484302946516/Put/vlen=1/seqid=0

But some records,
K: r1/Unknown_Qualifier/1484302946516/Put/vlen=1/seqid=0
Here there is no column family detail, normally it is like column family name
and the colon (:) .

It's strange, how key is written in wrong format in HFile.

RE: Region comapction failed

2017-01-13 Thread Pankaj kr
Thanks Ted for replying.

Actually issue happened in production environment and there are many HFiles in
that store (can't get the file). As we don't log the file name which is
corrupted, Is there anyway to get the corrupted file name?

Block encoding is "NONE", table schema has bloom filter as "ROW", compression
type is "Snappy" and durability is SKIP_WAL.

Pankaj

In the second case, the error happened when writing hfile. Can you track down
the path of the new file so that further investigation can be done ?

Does the table use any encoding ?

Thanks

HBase version : 1.0.2

We have verified all the HFiles in the store using HFilePrettyPrinter with "k"
(checkrow), all report is normal. Full scan is also successful.
We don't have the access to the actual data and may be customer wont agree to
share that .

Have anyone faced this issue, any pointers will be much appreciated.

Thanks & Regards,
Pankaj

What version of hbase are you on?

Did you check the isFailedServer() [1]. We delete an entry from the failed
servers list if its entry exceeds the FAILED_SERVER_EXPIRY_KEY
(hbase.ipc.client.failed.servers.expiry = 2000ms by default).

 Hi,

 When RPC clients try to connect to server and if it fails then the

 This failedServers cache is never modified and to clear this client
 program has to be restarted.

 Why such behavior?

Listen port will be bind always to the passed command line address

2014-12-28 Thread Pankaj kr
Hi,

In Thrift server, listen port will be bind always to the
address which is passed through command line argument.
--
InetSocketAddress inetSocketAddress = bindToPort(cmd.getOptionValue(bind),
listenPort);
-

private static InetSocketAddress bindToPort(String bindValue, int listenPort)
  throws UnknownHostException {
try {
  if (bindValue == null) {
return new InetSocketAddress(listenPort);
  } else {
return new InetSocketAddress(InetAddress.getByName(bindValue),
listenPort);
  }
} catch (UnknownHostException e) {
  throw new RuntimeException(Could not bind to provided ip address, e);
}
  }

In case when bind address is not passed through argument then
it is binding with any local address. It should read
hbase.thrift.info.bindAddress  value from configuration first.

Shall I raise a Jira and implement this change?

Pankaj
