Re: Apache Ignite 2.11

2021-07-05 Thread Nikita Safonov
Hi guys!

Alexey, I do confirm that some of the issues are already resolved (for
example, IGNITE-14658 is
already documented).
What is more, some of the tickets seem to be minor or "very internal"
things that do not change the behaviour/are not accessible for users,
including tests' improvements.

I would say that most of these tickets should be reflected only in the
Release notes, while some should even be omitted.

Alexey, could you or someone else please look through these tickets once
again and say which of them are worth documenting?
Then I'll be able to give the approximate time estimates.

Thank you!

Regards,
Nikita

Alexey,

Some of these tickets are already documented. Do we need to clear the "Docs
Required" flag if documentation for the ticket has been merged to the
master and release branch? AFAIK we didn't do that for previous releases.

Hi, Nikita!

As I can see, these are the tickets we need to document [1]

Can you tell me how long it will take to complete work on documentation?

Re: Apache Ignite 2.11

2021-07-01 Thread Nikita Safonov
Ivan, thank you for the links!

Well, I can still find the docs on Python Thin Client under the "Thin
Сlients"->"Python Thin Client" in 2.10:
https://ignite.apache.org/docs/2.10.0/thin-clients/python-thin-client

So, I can replace the contents of "Thin Сlients"->"Python Thin Client"
page with a link to the
https://apache-ignite-binary-protocol-client.readthedocs.io/en/stable/ and
a short note as follows:
"To see the documentation on Python Thin Client, please click here[link to
the readthedocs.io
].
+
And I can also change the link here

(after
"Ignite provides the following thin clients:", so that it would lead to the
readthedocs.io

 too).

Alex, my bad, I misread the first question and thought that all the docs on
thin clients have been migrated to the readthedocs.io
.
The articles are absolutely OK :)

Regards,
Nikita

Re: Apache Ignite 2.11

2021-07-01 Thread Alex Plehanov
Nikita,

What's wrong with platform-specific thin-client articles? These articles
describe how to configure and use specific thin client implementation, why
should we remove them?

AFAIK, thin clients have been already removed since 2.10

Re: Apache Ignite 2.11

2021-07-01 Thread Nikita Safonov
Hi guys!

Sorry, totally missed this email.

I can do this right away.

Just a couple of questions first:

[1] On the website, under the Thin Clients tab, we have the following
articles:

Thin Clients
Thin Clients Overview
Java Thin Client
.NET Thin Client
C++ Thin Client
Python Thin Client
PHP Thin Client
Node.js Thin Client
Binary Client Protocol

I do believe that the introduction ( "Thin Clients" - the first one) should
remain, while we can remove the rest (by the way, what about Binary Client
Protocol? Should it remain too?).
What do you think about this?

[2] Could you please indicate the place in the docs where the link to the
actual readthedocs.io documentation is? I didn't manage to find it.
If we don't have it, I would place it at the beginning of the Thin clients'
introduction article.

Regards,
Nikita

I suppose that python thin client documentation should be removed, only
link to actual readthedocs.io documentation should remain

Re: Apache Ignite 2.11

2021-06-09 Thread Nikita Safonov
Hello Igniters!

I guess that AI 2.11 will include documentation work.
I'll be glad to help with this.
And I'll be happy to know the scope of features that we need to document.

Nikita

hello,

can someone can help to merge the following patch into master?

https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/IGNITE-12852

This patch has been completed for a long time, and I think it is a
valuable one.

Hi Alexey,

Releasing master as-is makes sence for me.

Regarding non-SQL index API it really depends on readiness. I guess if it is
not in the master, we can skip and release it next time.

makes sense to start discussion, create and share wiki page and create branch.

Re: Apache Ignite 2.11

2021-05-21 Thread Maksim Timonin
Hi, Andrey!

Phase 1 delivers complete query functionality. So users will get the API to
query indexes and can start to use it. This functionality is not supposed
to be changed in the next phases. I think there could be changes in the
internal part that can affect performance of queries in next steps, but API
will not change.

Phases 2 and 3 are improvements and provide additional API. Those features
should be discussed on the dev list later. On this dev list topic [1] we
discussed phase 1 only and agreed that it is a useful feature.

I'll prepare a PR for this feature today, and then up this topic [1].
Actually there are some issues to discuss. So after discussing those issues
we can decide to deliver the feature to 2.11 or postpone until 2.12.
Currently it's some time until the scope freeze (31 of May), so I'll write
to this topic about progress and decisions.

Re: Apache Ignite 2.11

2021-05-21 Thread Andrey Gura
Maksim,

why do you want to include just one phase of functionality into
release instead of full implementation? History of Ignie development
shows (at least from my point of view) that it is bad practice. As
result users will have unfinished and badly tested functionality. We
have (or had in the past) some examples of such things: MVCC, IEP-35,
etc.

Hi, I'd like to include Phase 1 of index queries feature [1] to the next AI
release. Currently there are 2 tickets in progress ([2], [3]), and they
will be ready for review next week. What is a time of code freeze if it's
going to release AI 2.11 at the end of June?

Re: Apache Ignite 2.11

2021-05-13 Thread Dmitry Pavlov
Hi Alexey,

:pmc to sign distribution:
Formally, only PMC member can be a release manager, so part of activities
should be picked up by committer and PMC member. If noone else want to help you
here, I would.

:timeline:
And, could you estimate all phases of the release.

:scope:
I guess we can just pick up master current state and release it. But if someone
has some ideas if we should wait for particular feature to be completed before
branch divergence/release candidate build, please let know.

Sincerely,
Dmitriy Pavlov
