Re: [VOTE] Release Lucene/Solr 5.4.0-RC1

2015-12-06 Thread Shalin Shekhar Mangar
Is anyone able to run the smoke tester on this RC? It just hangs for a
long time on "loading release URL" for me.

python3 -u dev-tools/scripts/smokeTestRelease.py --tmp-dir
../smoke-5.4 --revision 178046 --version 5.4.0 --test-java8
~/programs/jdk8
https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/lucene/lucene-solr-5.4.0-RC1-rev178046/
Java 1.7 JAVA_HOME=/home/shalin/programs/jdk7
Java 1.8 JAVA_HOME=/home/shalin/programs/jdk8
NOTE: output encoding is UTF-8

Load release URL
"https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/lucene/lucene-solr-5.4.0-RC1-rev178046/;...

I did a strace and found that the server is returning a HTTP 301 moved
permanently response to the http request.

bq: The tree view should, really, go away (or be relegated) as an
implementation detail. A view that shows us config sets as first level citizens
would be a good thing.

Configsets being first-class citizens is fine. As far as the tree view going
away, if that happened we'd need to provide first-class citizenship to
everything. When troubleshooting a cluster, we need to see live_nodes, each
collection's state.json, leader election queues etc. Not to mention that we
need a way to see whatever custom properties people put into their state.json
nodes etc. So my vote is to keep it where it is

That's why i said "or be relegated". It should not be something that you use as
a beginner, rather it should be an advanced tool for looking under the bonnet
when the main UI features don't give enough detail.

The tree view should, really, go away (or be relegated) as an implementation
detail. A view that shows us config sets as first level citizens would be a
good thing.

Paul Elschot updated LUCENE-6922:
-
Attachment: svnBranchToGit.py

svnBranchToGit.py of 6 Dec 2015.
This takes binary files directly from svn by svn cat.
Updated the internal docs, and improved progress output.

I pushed the tag trunk.svn.20151206 to github, this parallels the git-svn
commits at the trunk branch from early October 2015.

This still might fail for a commits with deleted or changed binary fiies.
In case someone knows a commit that has this, please let me know.

Re: [VOTE] Release Lucene/Solr 5.4.0-RC1

Thanks Upayavira. I guess Apache has started redirecting http traffic
to https recently on dist.apache.org which must have broken this
script. I am able to run smoke tester after applying your patch.

[jira] [Updated] (SOLR-8378) Add upconfig and downconfig commands to the bin/solr script and managed-only schema to configsets

2015-12-06 Thread Erick Erickson (JIRA)

 [

Erick Erickson updated SOLR-8378:
-
Summary: Add upconfig and downconfig commands to the bin/solr script and
managed-only schema to configsets (was: Add upconfig and downconfig commands
to the bin/solr script)

> Add upconfig and downconfig commands to the bin/solr script and managed-only

>Reporter: Erick Erickson
>Assignee: Erick Erickson
>Priority: Minor
> Attachments: SOLR-8378.patch, SOLR-8378.patch
>
>
> It would be convenient to be able to upload and download arbitrary configsets
> to Zookeeper.
> This _might_ be the last thing we need before not requiring users be aware of
> zkcli, which is awkward.

> Fuzzy queries in SimpleQParserPlugin don't seem to use the multi-term
> analysis chain. Prefix queries do, and SolrQueryParser does use multi-term
> analysis for fuzzy queries, so it seems like SimpleQParserPlugin should as
> well.

[jira] [Commented] (LUCENE-6917) Move NumericField out of core to backwards-codecs

+1 I was looking forward to this :-)

Can you please link to the benchmarks you did?

And I'm curious why some uses, say BBoxStrategy to pick one example, still use
the Legacy version; why not the latest and greatest BKD? If it's *just* for
precisionStep -- by all means just toss the precisionStep configuration. It
won't apply any more.

Re: [VOTE] Release Lucene/Solr 5.4.0-RC1

2015-12-06 Thread Upayavira
The getHREFs() method is taking in an HTTPS URL, but failing to preserve
the protocol, resulting in an HTTP call that the server naturally
bounces to HTTPS. Unfortunately, the next loop round also forgets the
HTTPS, and hence we're stuck in an endless loop. Below is a patch that
fixes this issue. I'd rather someone with more knowledge of this script
confirm my suspicion and apply the patch for us all to use, as I cannot
see how this ever worked.

I personally ran the smoke test on my local copy, so did not hit this
HTTP/HTTPS code. I'm running the HTTP version now, and will check on it
in the morning.

Re: [VOTE] Release Lucene/Solr 5.4.0-RC1

2015-12-06 Thread Shalin Shekhar Mangar
Hi Upayavira,

The svn revision in the URL is wrong. It should be 1718046 but it is
178046 which makes the smoke tester fail with the following message:

RuntimeError: JAR file
"/tmp/smoke_lucene_5.4.0_178046_1/unpack/lucene-5.4.0/analysis/common/lucene-analyzers-common-5.4.0.jar"
is missing "Implementation-Version: 5.4.0 178046 " inside its
META-INF/MANIFEST.MF (wrong svn revision?)

I think you may need to generate a new RC. But perhaps an svn move to
a path with the right revision number may also suffice?

[jira] [Updated] (SOLR-8266) Remove Java Serialization from the Streaming API

2015-12-06 Thread Jason Gerlowski (JIRA)

 [

 ]

Jason Gerlowski updated SOLR-8266:
--
Attachment: SOLR-8266.patch

Making the first two changes Joel laid out (StreamHandler and ParallelStream)
seemed easy.

I'm having a little more trouble with the third piece of this patch- tweaking
StreamingTest's use of parallel streams to use a properly configured
StreamFactory/StreamContext.

The current patch gets through several of the parallel-stream tests, before
hitting {{testParallelEOF}} and failing with the follow stack trace:

{code}
java.io.IOException: java.util.concurrent.ExecutionException:
java.io.IOException: --> https://127.0.0.1:35540/collection1/:Invalid stream
expression count(merge(search(collection1,q="id:(4 1 8 7

 2 3 6)",fl="id,a_s,a_i",sort="a_i
asc",partitionKeys=a_i,zkHost="127.0.0.1:36053/solr"),on="a_i asc")) - function
'count' is unknown (not mapped to a valid TupleStream)

I've still got some investigation to do here; probably just overlooking
something simple. But it's late here, and I'd like to upload my progress so I
can continue from a different computer in the morning. (And if anyone chimes
in with thoughts/advice, all the better).

[jira] [Updated] (SOLR-8378) Add upconfig and downconfig commands to the bin/solr script and managed-only schema to configsets

2015-12-06 Thread Erick Erickson (JIRA)

Erick Erickson updated SOLR-8378:
-
Attachment: SOLR-8378.patch

I think this is ready, much of it it copy/paste/change reproducing the pattern
for the other commands.

I'm particularly interested in any comments [~thelabdude] has.

This really does two things:
1> provides an upconfig and downconfig so we don't force the users to use zkcli
or bootstrap options.

2> provides a managed schema configset that does _not_ have the field guessing
in it.

I'd actually like to get this in to 5.4 if there aren't too many objections,
I'm guessing there'll be a re-spin. Especially because this in conjunction with
the new admin API allows the managed schema to be used from the UI with or
without the field guessing API.

Unless there are objections, I plan on committing this to at least trunk and 5x
Tuesday or so, whether to also include it in 5.4 is another question.

> This _might_ be the last thing we need before not requiring users be aware of
> zkcli, which is awkward.

Re: Lucene/Solr git mirror will soon turn off

I tried it once (for storing large text files -- Polish dictionaries,
uncompressed -- on github), but it simply didn't work. More headaches
than benefits (to me).

[jira] [Commented] (SOLR-8378) Add upconfig and downconfig commands to the bin/solr script and managed-only schema to configsets

Hi Erick,

bq. 2> provides a managed schema configset that does not have the field
guessing in it.

With SOLR-8131 ( which I plan on committing today ) all branch5x examples will
explicitly use managed-schema . So basic schema will also be equivalent to the
managed-only schema here? There will be less duplication of example configsets
we ship with in that case.

Also I think we should not add this to 5.4 . If there not being another 5.x
release a motive here? We could do a 5.5 release in early/mid January since 6.0
could be soon after that in that case

> This _might_ be the last thing we need before not requiring users be aware of
> zkcli, which is awkward.

> This parser extends QueryParserBase and includes functionality from:
> * Classic QueryParser: most of its syntax
> * SurroundQueryParser: recursive parsing for "near" and "not" clauses.
> * ComplexPhraseQueryParser: can handle "near" queries that include multiterms
> (wildcard, fuzzy, regex, prefix),
> * AnalyzingQueryParser: has an option to analyze multiterms.
> At a high level, there's a first pass BooleanQuery/field parser and then a
> span query parser handles all terminal nodes and phrases.
> Same as classic syntax:
> * term: test
> * fuzzy: roam~0.8, roam~2
> * wildcard: te?t, test*, t*st
> * regex: /\[mb\]oat/
> * phrase: "jakarta apache"
> * phrase with slop: "jakarta apache"~3
> * default "or" clause: jakarta apache
> * grouping "or" clause: (jakarta apache)
> * boolean and +/-: (lucene OR apache) NOT jakarta; +lucene +apache -jakarta
> * multiple fields: title:lucene author:hatcher
>
> Main additions in SpanQueryParser syntax vs. classic syntax:
> * Can require "in order" for phrases with slop with the \~> operator:
> "jakarta apache"\~>3
> * Can specify "not near": "fever bieber"!\~3,10 ::
> find "fever" but not if "bieber" appears within 3 words before or 10
> words after it.
> * Fully recursive phrasal queries with \[ and \]; as in: \[\[jakarta
> apache\]~3 lucene\]\~>4 ::
> find "jakarta" within 3 words of "apache", and that hit has to be within
> four words before "lucene"
> * Can also use \[\] for single level phrasal queries instead of " as in:
> \[jakarta apache\]
> * Can use "or grouping" clauses in phrasal queries: "apache (lucene solr)"\~3
> :: find "apache" and then either "lucene" or "solr" within three words.
> * Can use multiterms in phrasal queries: "jakarta\~1 ap*che"\~2
> * Did I mention full recursion: \[\[jakarta\~1 ap*che\]\~2 (solr~
> /l\[ou\]\+\[cs\]\[en\]\+/)]\~10 :: Find something like "jakarta" within two
> words of "ap*che" and that hit has to be within ten words of something like
> "solr" or that "lucene" regex.
> * Can require at least x number of hits at boolean level: "apache AND (lucene
> solr tika)~2
> * Can use negative only query: -jakarta :: Find all docs that don't contain
> "jakarta"
> * Can use an edit distance > 2 for fuzzy query via SlowFuzzyQuery (beware of
> potential performance issues!).
> Trivial additions:
> * Can specify prefix length in fuzzy queries: jakarta~1,2 (edit distance =1,
> prefix =2)
> * Can specifiy Optimal String Alignment (OSA) vs Levenshtein for distance
> <=2: (jakarta~1 (OSA) vs jakarta~>1(Levenshtein)
> This parser can be very useful for concordance tasks (see also LUCENE-5317
> and LUCENE-5318) and for analytical search.
> Until LUCENE-2878 is closed, this might have a use for fans of SpanQuery.
> Most of the documentation is in the javadoc for SpanQueryParser.
> Any and all feedback is welcome. Thank you.
> Until this is added to the Lucene project, I've added a standalone
> lucene-addons repo (with jars compiled for the latest stable build of Lucene)
> on [github|https://github.com/tballison/lucene-addons].

> The techproducts and other examples shipped with Solr all use the
> ClassicIndexSchemaFactory which disables all Schema APIs which need to modify
> schema. It'd be nice to be able to support both read/write schema APIs

> I propose to change all 5.x examples to explicitly use
> ManagedIndexSchemaFactory and to enable ManagedIndexSchemaFactory by default
> in trunk (6.x).
