Mailing list threading improvements

2023-08-17 Thread Christofer Dutz
TL;DR: We’re updating how auto-generated email from Github will be
threaded on your mailing lists. If you want to keep the old defaults,
details are below.

We’re pleased to let you know that we’re tweaking the way that auto-
generated email from Github will appear on your mailing lists. This
will lead to more human-readable subject lines, and the ability of most
modern mail clients to correctly thread discussions originating on
Github.

Background: Many project mailing lists receive email auto-generated by
Github. The way that the subject lines are crafted leads to messages
from the same topic not being threaded together by most mail clients.
We’re fixing that.

The way that these messages are threaded is defined by a file -
.asf.yml - in your git repositories. We’re changing the way that it
will work by default if you don’t choose settings. If you’re happy for
us to make this change, don’t do anything - the change will happen on
October the 1st 2023.

Details of the current default, as well as the proposed changes, are on
the following page, along with instructions on how to keep your current
settings, if you prefer:

https://community.apache.org/contributors/mailing-lists.html#configuring-the-subject-lines-of-the-emails-being-sent

Email aggressively remove the sender from the reply list when sent to a
list so they likely did not get this email. I was doing the same thing a
couple weeks ago Added them to this one.

Great to have you! To subscribe, send an email to:
dev-subscr...@nuttx.apache.org.

Youll get a confirmation email; once you confirm by replying to that,
you'll be on the mailing list.

Similarly, if you ever wish to unsubscribe, just send an email to:
dev-unsubscr...@nuttx.apache.org.

We should probably update the NuttX website to document this process more
clearly. :-)

Hope this helps,

Mailing list duplicate header error

2022-09-15 Thread Bernd Walter
This is not about nuttx, but about this list.

Just a few minutes ago I had send a mail to this list.
The returned mail from the list was tagged as spam.
It wasn't enough to reject the mail, but tag it, so that it was filed
into the spam folder.
The major reason (rspamd default config) was 7 points for duplicate
unique headers.
I tend to send mail with a reply-to header.
The list added a second header, but left mine, so in the end there had
been two disagreeing reply-to headers.

Indeed if mailman wants to forward signed messages they cannot be tampered with.

Hmm, our mail lists are managed by ASF and I haven't seen other ASF
project mailing lists doing that. Unfortunately, relying on
individuals to do it manually probably won't work consistently.

Are you able to configure your mail client to filter by From address?

Most mailing list managers allow turning off sending emails (and also support
digest mode).
If Apache uses mailman this should be possible to set via administrative
interface once you
subscribe.

Re: Mailing list usability

2021-04-24 Thread Brennan Ashton
Max,
Sorry you are having trouble, I agree mailing lists are hard to use without
subscribing and I think you found what would have been my suggestions for
accessing the archives. I included you directly in this response so
hopefully you will get it.

If you have "issues" that you want to discuss such as the one you posted
about with the sm32f4discovery board feel free to open an actual GitHub
issue and we can try to resolve it there. We try to avoid too many of the
"how do I" kind of questions there, but if they are posted usually they
will still get a response just the audience may be smaller.

I hope that helps!

Mailing list usability

2021-04-23 Thread Max Kriegleder

Hi all,

I am an infrequent user of the mailing list, where I sometimes post
issues and even more rarely pull request. Hence, I would rather not
subscribe to the list because of spam (no pun intended!). However, I
find it quite difficult to use the mailing list for my purposes without
subscribing.

Lately, some of my messages apparently got lost. Also, I cannot answer
to specific messages on
https://www.mail-archive.com/dev@nuttx.apache.org/ as the 'Reply via
email to' button doesn't work in my browser (Firefox). I have tried
http://mail-archives.apache.org, which doesn't have a search and reply
functionality, and
https://lists.apache.org/list.html?dev@nuttx.apache.org, which seems
like the best alternative with search and reply functionality, but it
doesn't seem to be in sync with the mailing list (or takes longer to do
that).

Are there other alternatives for my use case or do I really need to
subscribe to the mailing list?

Thanks!
Max
