[CODE]: easy task for beginners
Hi, I stumbled once again about the CHINA001 comments all over in the source code. Well the comments are useless and don't contain any useful information and make the code less readable. I think it can be a task for somebody who wanted to get started with some easy task. I know it is not the most sophisticated task but nevertheless a useful one because it will improve the readability. Parts of this can be done for sure with a script and the rest is not really difficult. It's more the huge amount, XXX lines containing CHINA001. If somebody is interested to work on this, I would recommend to create dedicated issue for code cleanup and simply start. We have a set of pages on our website for new volunteers to review. You can find them here: http://openoffice.apache.org/orientation/ If you've worked with an open source project before much of this will be review. But if you are new to open source communities the introductory pages have some useful background in how we are organized and how we do things. There are also specific pages on getting started with areas like development, including instructions for how to get started building Apache OpenOffice. This is the first step (hurdle?) for new developers. If you get stuck don't be shy, send questions to the dev mailing list. The OpenOffice product itself does not contain a lot of artwork. We have a logo, recently updated, that is incorporated into the Splash screen and About box , for example. But our marketing project does more work with graphics, designing artwork for the website, social media, brochures to hand out at conferences, etc. If you are interested in those areas you should sign up for our marketing mailing list, market...@openoffice.apache.org, and introduce yourself there. Hi, I think you are confusing us with Wikipedia. Apache OpenOffice has no specific relationship to Wikipedia. If yo made an entry in Wikipedia you should be able to find it with Wikipedia search if you can remember any key words or phrases in the article. Open Document Editors Devroom at FOSDEM 2014, 1 February 2014, Brussels
(feel free to forward to other lists and other projects; if you have questions, of course you can ask them on the OpenOffice dev list too) Open Document Editors Devroom at FOSDEM 2014, 1 February 2014, Brussels Open document editors are coming again to FOSDEM with a shared devroom which gives every project in this area a chance to present ODF related developments and innovations. The devroom is organized by Apache OpenOffice and LibreOffice. We invite submission of talks for the Open Document Editors devroom, to be held on Saturday, February 1st, from 10AM to 6PM. Length of talks should be limited to 20 minutes, as we would like to have questions after each presentation, and to fit as many presenters as possible in the schedule. Exceptions must be explicitly requested and justified. Technical talks (code, extensions, localization, QA, tools and significant adoption related cases) about open document editors or the ODF format are welcome. Submissions must be done using the Pentabarf system: https://penta.fosdem.org/submission/FOSDEM14 While filing your proposal, please add a few lines about yourself (although your profile might already be stored at Pentabarf) and specify what product or topic (Apache OpenOffice, LibreOffice, both, other editor, ODF in general...) your talk is about. The deadline is Sunday, December 22, 2013. Accepted speakers will be notified by January 5, 2014. You can send any questions to the devroom mailing list: office-devr...@lists.fosdem.org - To unsubscribe, e-mail: dev-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: dev-h...@openoffice.apache.org

It's a secondary mirror system. Although due to the usual size/bandwidth considerations the OpenOffice project uses SourceForge, Infra did significant work to be able to offer OpenOffice on the Apache mirrors. We can do without it completely, but we can also make their life easier (last time they needed a full week to propagate OpenOffice to all mirrors) by storing there one multi-lang installer only. Do we have any numbers of downloads from these mirrors? No. We assume they are negligible, but we literally neglect them in our download statistics. That said, I honestly don't know how much the additional workload would be: is it only an additional option on the builbots (or build machines) configuration or will it be needed to adapt other scripts and waste a lot of time?
