Re: Testing 4.1.3 - source builds

2016-10-03 Thread Mechtilde
Hello,

for my understanding, beside doing a good build it is necessary to have
and totest defined reference builds.

The way I see it, it is not easy to do a good build if you didn't have
enough practice doing it.

I didn't myself any C/C++ build before. So IHMO I will waste time to
improve my build environment instead of testing a reference build

My results of testing belong to the reference builds published as RC1 at
dist.apache.org.

Apache OpenOffice is a project with a wide user base, who only use the
binaries. So it is important to release well defined and tested binaries.

Otherwise support becomes hell.

Kind regards

[Proposal] Publish Apache Open Office on the apple store.

2016-10-03 Thread Peter Kovacs

Hello all,

I would like to propose to publish _Open Office_ as _Apache Foundation_
on the Apple store.

I am always dissapointed when I see some unknown developer publishes
Open Source, and the Project itself is not present.

Afaik this costs money (99$/year).
Here is a blog post that explains the details what is involved as effort:
https://www.raywenderlich.com/127936/submit-an-app-part-1

Does the Apache Foundation allow this?
What does such a move involve on our side?
Where can we get the money from?
Do we want to do this on a general thought?

I would volunteer as a Apple Store publisher, if it comes down for
volunteers who do it.

But I think this is only the last piece to think about.

all the best
Peter

In this case, we only update the dictionaries to the latest version

There are differences between the german languages spoken and written
(officially) in Switzerland, Austria and Germany.

For an example de_CH do not know a "ß", they write "ss" alltimes. There
are also distinctions in vocabulary.

fud, or show me exactly what parts you mean
Well, I dont know if it is exactly a fud. There is a cornerstone truce
to this.
Do not forget Microsoft was pretty much surprised by the success of ODF
specification becoming a public ISO Standard.
Their first definition was hastely published, in Microsoft style. It was
a agressive reponse. The stake back then was high for both sides. Media
did support all sorts of sides in this time.
With ODF becoming ISO standard, the doors into US public service were
open. This was acclaimed as a break of the Microsoft Office monopol.
As much as I remeber the OOXML allows you to add binary files directly
into the document, which are not further defined. I mean it could be
anything, and only Microsoft Office did know what it saved in these spots.
So yea the standard could techicly be only a shell and still remain
intransparent. But IMHO it was only a specification flaw. For OpenSource
warriors this was of course the invitation battle MS.
I think on Open source front, the success of ODF changed the attitude of
embracing other Formats.
Before that there was a strong drive to make the Microsoft binary
formats work. And support to support other Formats. This will dropped
after the success of ODF.
But with OOXML tied to MS, and OO focusing on ODF the seperation on the
market was imident, which was bad for bizzness.
So I think it turned a little when Novell (looking back, who had already
bad experience with a similar situation n the UNIX market ;) ) made the
cooperation deal with Microsoft to jointly work on both formats.
It is the turning point for Microsoft from fighting open source to
embrace it.
However I think the bad Karma from the days still sticks for most
people. Ballmer style just broke to much Glass in his time and MS just
was to good Empire for the Rebellion.

I do belive that real openess is about choice, not about transparency.
Transperency is about trust.
ODF has a better trancperency then OOXML. But beeing open we need to
embrace and value both formats.

Apache OpenOffice release notification

2016-10-03 Thread Patricia Shanahan
The Apache OpenOffice project is currently preparing and testing a
release candidate, 4.1.3-rc1. The total size of the artifacts, including
the binary files, exceeds a gigabyte, so the release policy calls for
notifying Infrastructure.

I do not expect significant Infrastructure impact because AOO is
normally downloaded from SourceForge, not ASF or its mirrors.

Please contact me or post to dev@openoffice.apache.org if you need more

I assume that this does not literally mean that you must test the .bz2,
the .gz and the .zip. They are equivalent. This sentence is for when a
project makes a release composed of different parts. For the record,
trunk is already set to avoid duplication of packages, but AOO413 still
uses the old convention of 3 source packages. (If it helps, I've used
the .bz2 for my tests!).

For my testing, I'm assuming that it is enough to be sure a package is
identical to one I've tested. In particular, the .bz2 and .gz decompress
to the same .tar file, so I don't even plan to extract one of the tar
files for further checks.

ah, great hint.

I've uncompressed all 3 files, diff'ed the .tar.bz2 and .tar.gz files,
and finally uncompressed all files until the actual dirs/files. All 3
dirs had the same total file size of 1,541,414,704 bytes. This has to be
enough when it comes to "you have to check all source files".

Tomorrow I'll build the release from a package file.

@Andrea:
Can you please check the
"apache-openoffice-4.1.3-r1761381-src.tar.gz.sha256" file? It's in

I am doing a build directly from the source distribution, but I've also
done a "diff -r" between it and the svn, and only found the expected
differences.

I've done the following for testing:

 Installation

 Windows 10
 --
 Windows deOK
 Windows de langpackOK
 Windows en-USOK
 Windows en-US langpackOK

 Fedora 21 64-bit

 Linux x86-64 rpm deOK
 Linux x86-64 rpm de langpackOK
 Linux x86-64 rpm en-USOK
 Linux x86-64 rpm en-US langpackOK

 Quick test
 ==
Starting, creating files, saving, copy & pasting and quittingOK

 Release data

 Version number, "About" dialogOK

Of course not a full QA test round. However, as the fixes are small,
this quick test should be good enough.

A PMC member, to cast a binding +1 vote approving a relese, needs to

http://www.apache.org/legal/release-policy.html#release-approval

PMC members please indicate when they have done that test, to help me

I've build today that branch with release options. Is this sufficient or

I believe it does have to be from the zip etc. but I am not sure. The
actual wording is:

"Before casting +1 binding votes, individuals are REQUIRED to download
all signed source code packages onto their own hardware, verify that
they meet all requirements of ASF policy on releases as described below,
validate all cryptographic signatures, compile as provided, and test the
result on their own platform."

wow, *all signed source code packages* ? What a bummer. ;-) OK, I'll do
that testing tomorrow.

Nevertheless, when there are still no objections we should start the
vote in the very next days.

This might is an assumption in the documentation, but the differences
between the two are documented at

the build is not affected at all, so I would consider them equivalent in

I think you can make Georgia hunspell dictionary in UTF-8 encoding.
After creating the hunspell dictionary it needs to be packed to OpenOffice

The author of this expansion has created a utility for easy editing OpenOffice

patched epm-3.7 (otherwise, produces 'intel' instead of 'amd64' and
won't install in Debian AMD64)

source ./LinuxX86-64Env.Set.sh

cd instsetoo_native/

I installed the Linux x86-64 DEB en-GB and am using it for routine text editing
on reasonable sized files (70-300K words) and a little spreadsheet work.
Running on Xubuntu 16.04.
Working correctly.

Georgian Dictionary in Hunspell

2016-10-03 Thread Giorgi Vakhtangishvili
Hello OpenOffice,

I'm Giorgi Vakhtangishvili, writing to you from Tbilisi, Georgia. Didn't
know who to write to and on which mail, so here I am.

We are the team of developers who work on different RnD projects from
Georgia.

The reason for me writing to you is that, there's is one big problem in
Georgia, that we are now trying to solve and we think that you can help us
a lot:

As you may know, Georgia has it's own alphabet but there is no support of
our written language's SpellChecker in such big softwares, like OpenOffice,
LibreOffice, Chrome, Opera, Safari and etc. These softwares are used in
Georgia everyday and there's a big demand for integration of Georgian Spell
Checker in them.

Currently, our team is working on it and as one of the options of
fulfilling our goal is to create Georgian Dictionary in Hunspell's Open
Source library. As long as, Hunspell is used by the Softwares mentioned
above, it will automatically add support of Georgian spell checker to them
too.

This is the reason I'm writing to you.

What do you think about it ? Are we on a right track ?
We tried to contact to Nemeth but unfortunately got no answer from him. Can
you help me with contacting Hunspell team ?
Is it possible to contribute to Hunspell Library and add Georgian spell
checker to it ?
What are the steps and requirements to get through this process ?

We hope for your support and guidance.

Regards,
Giorgi Vakhtangishvili.

thank you :-) We appreciate this very much.

How do I automatically or manually update any and all new versions that may
come in the future?

For a new version you need to uninstall the old and then install the new
version.

Will I be notified by open office?

Yes. When OpenOffice is running there will be a little yellow update
notification shown in the top right corner.

What steps do I need to take to do any updates, as I want to insure I am
using the latest version at all times?

In order to see the currently installed version, you can have a look
into the About dialog (see menu "Help - About OpenOffice").

If nobody steps in, and/or nobody has any objection, you can count with
me.

I would be very happy to have Ariel as Release Manager.

+1 me, too. :-)

Re: Issue 63419 - New dialog control property Multiline has bad name in IDE

2016-10-03 Thread Mathias Röllig

Hello Peter!

does someon know where to find the IDE dialog Properties panel?

Create a new dialog in the Basic IDE or open an existing dialog. (Please
note that the dialogs that comes with AOO are loaded in read-only mode.
So you don't can open the properties for a control.)

Select a control and open the properties for it.

+1

exactly, that's what I meant

and a little bit is my opinion also:
MS is not longer a _fundamental_ opponent of free software more

and a very little bit is my opinion also:
MS is one of our "Platinum sponsors" and it is not a good style blindly to
grumble about MS
